My xl bariatric rolator is about 3 inches too short for me and using it when my back has a good day causes my back to have a bad day. It's on the tallest setting and is the largest and tallest rolator the medical supply company can source. -_-

Truly, if you need help moving without pain and with stability, get an aid. Consult people in the know like a PT, Dr, or your friend. Finding one that works is huge. Plus, no shame in getting a more comprehensive aid.
You have control over your comfort and power. As a young mobility aid user, I will always smile and make you room. And loudly "suggest" other people accept the space you take up in a room too. You deserve it.
To all the people who want to get a mobility aid, or any type of disability aid, but are too insecure for whatever reason:
Get one.
If you think it’ll help you, it probably will. Do not feel afraid to get something if you think it’ll help improve your quality of life. Those who don’t need a disability aid do not yearn to have one.
“But I don’t know if I’m disabled enough-” doesn’t matter. will it help you? then get it.
“But I’m not even diagnosed with anything-” doesn’t matter. will it make your life better? then get it.
“But I’m not even disabled-” shush. if you think you might need an aid, chances are you probably are disabled to some degree. and even if you aren’t comfortable calling yourself disabled, IT DOESN’T MATTER. will it help you? THEN GET IT!!
The more people who are using disability aids, the better. I want to see people of all different levels of ability using aids, all types of aids. I want people to talk about canes and braces and rollators and AACs the same way they talk about glasses.
There is so much stigma around those who use visible aids, especially mobility aids like wheelchairs which make so many spaces entirely inaccessible. The more people using aids, the more normal it will be. The less stigmatized it will be. The more people using aids, the more we as a society will have to make spaces more accessible. and when a space is accessible, it benefits everyone. The more people using aids, the more it does for disability rights. The more visible we become. The less ignorable we become. The more empowered we become. And the less power our oppressor will have against us.

honestly fuck the sims 4 for not having any mobility aids in the game. ik they're adding more representation and all that, but where are my cane users?? my sims that use forearm crutches? rolators? wheelchairs??? also just disability in general is just...nonexistent in ts4. blindness, amputation, chronic pain, etc. i know it's supposed to be some kind of vaguely futuristic utopia, but if your idea of an ideal future lacks disabled people, it's not utopia. i'm so sorry, i truly love the sims 4, but their disability representation is incredibly lacking, and i will die on this hill, even if it's one of my favorite games.

i think that there needs to be more disabled characters in combat focused games, like characters that are noticably disabled. sure there are some amputee characters but give me amputee characters that dont have a prosthetic, give me a sniper whos a wheelchair user, give me a character that uses their crutches or cane to hit someone, give me a character who uses their wheelchair to run people over, give me a character who keeps explosives in their rolator seat, give me characters that are just disabled! it doesnt even have to give them an advantage! just make them disabled!

I have a character with a congenital heart defect which prevents her from walking long distances or standing for long periods of time.
I'm wondering if she would be an ambulatory wheelchair user (she has no 'mobility' issues other than the heart defect) or if she would be more likely to use a rolator? (she really CAN'T walk more than 500-ish ft/stand for more than 7-8 minutes without having issues, so she'd be being pushed in the rolator seat, which is what made me think a wheelchair would probably be a more practical choice).
I'm also wondering if there's any sort of harmful stereotypes I should be sure to avoid?
Hi asker!
She could definitely be an ambulatory wheelchair user and also have a rollator. But for the purpose of sitting down, which is what she would need the most, a rollator isn't as effective.
Someone who uses a rollator can maybe get pushed a little if it's really needed, but they are not designed to move while someone is sitting on them and it's not recommended at all. They aren't generally strong enough to have that be possible with any sort of durability, and might not be safe enough for letting the person stay well-seated while in motion — what they're made for is for being a walking aid, with the option to sit down if needed.
There are a couple rollators that also turn into wheelchairs. I specifically know of the Wheellator, which can have power assist while it's a rollator and can turn into a power wheelchair, and the Rollz Motion, which has a couple different models. The Motion 2.1 and Motion Performance turn into a transport chair that looks like it needs to be pushed by someone else, the Motion Electric turns into a power wheelchair as well as being able to be used as a transport wheelchair pushed by someone else.
The Wheellator specifically states: "The Wheellator is a Motirized [sic] Walker that turns into a Motorized Wheelchair. For your comfort, it is designed to be used primarily as a walker and turns into a wheelchair when needed. If you are considering this item to use mainly as a wheelchair and sometimes as a walker, we suggest purchasing a Motorized Wheelchair instead of, or in addition to the Wheellator." Essentially, even though it turns into a wheelchair, the frame and cushioning work better for occasional wheelchair use rather than primary wheelchair use.
The Rollz Motion doesn't specify as much, but it seems to be marketed as a rollator that can turn into a wheelchair as well — rollator being its primary use.
Basically, if she mostly needs to sit down, she would need a wheelchair, not a rollator, as the rollator would not be enough. She would benefit from a powerchair or power assist if she can't push herself or if it's difficult for her.
Hope this helps,
mod sparrow

Third time seeing Furiosa! Thoughts, in no particular order:
(Spoilers below)
I like how gender sort of evaporated in the wasteland. Like yeah, if you're healthy and female in the Citadel your career options are predetermined and pretty limited, and the Wasteland across the board is hypermasculine. But that masculinity doesn't appear limited to cis men: for example, the History Man offers to help Furiosa become not a History Woman or a History Person, but a History Man specifically. Also, Mr. Norton is female-presenting the entire movie, but after she wins her bike she is referred to by the make of her bike and a masculine honorific, almost as if to drive home a point to her new hordemates. Idk if there's an underlying message in all this, I just think it's cool that gender in the wasteland seems to be inherently fluid and situational.
What language were the Vuvalini speaking? You know, when the Vuvalini general tells Mary Jabassa that no one can know of the Green Place.
I paid attention to Mr. Harley this time, he does appear to have a soft spot for Furiosa. Now I want more fics of him and Mr. Davidson interacting with little Furiosa, being the cool uncles or even springing her and bailing from the Horde to go raise her as a bandit.
Did anyone else notice during the first attempt on the Citadel when Dementus is giving his "surrender or I will burn down your village" speech, the Octoboss is leaning back with his feet propped up on his gas tank? 1) Kleut is one lanky mfer. 2) This is clearly not the first time the Octoboss has heard this speech and he's expecting to get to hang out and enjoy the spectacle.
I love how the final act mirrors the first act. A handful of bikers pursued through dunes by an implacable Vuvalini who snipes them one by one. The pursuer has to commandeer a tire to keep going; a bike is crippled by the removal of a tire. The attempt to use a sandstorm for cover. Use of a rifle scope to watch the fleeing bikers. Attempted flight on foot. A slow death involving a tree as the result of failed escape. The first shot of Furiosa's Odyssey is of her picking peaches and offering one to a friend; the final shot, before it becomes Fury Road, is of her picking peaches and offering them to the wives. Visual poetry, man. I will take the weird pacing if that is what it takes to get us that thematic mirroring.
The Organic Mechanic was definitely cooking one of Dementus' dogs when Furiosa commandeered Scrotus' car.
When we first see the House of Holy Motors, the Head Blackthumb is assisted by a little old man with a tricked-out rolator. Later, when Furiosa has lost her arm, we see someone pulling what appears to be the tricked-out rolator out of storage and her building her prosthetic from one of the grabby arms on it.
From the first moment we see him, Smeg is low-key mimicking Dementus' look and actions. I think his function in the Horde is as Dementus' fool or jester.
Furiosa is wearing Dementus' cape when she first corners him. By the time she drags him back to the Citadel, it's gone. His mantle of hate and grief falls on her and she ultimately rejects it.
The Lone Warboy survived all the way through the 40 Day War! During the first attempt on the Citadel, he hooks a chain to the trailer with Furiosa and the History Man; Dementus and co manage to get it back and drive off, but the Warboy is pulled back up. We see him periodically in the background right up until Furiosa commandeers the Cranky Black, you can tell it's him because his build is so distinctive and he's got a scar from the arrow.
I really liked that one brakeman with the red beard, his face was covered during half his scenes but he seemed like a very normal person living in the Citadel, occasionally sticking up for Furiosa. I like how his humanity showed past even the Pyramid Head-looking costume. My headcanon is that he was friendly towards Furiosa from the time she became a dogman and recognized her all the way through; he's got a soft spot for his mute friend who occasionally wanders off and comes back a different gender.

Yosano is a walker (specifically a rolator) user and Chuuya is a wheelchair user
"I lierally have a whole backstory for them which starts with the fact Yosano's rolator is customised with stickers and patches and custom fabrics because she hates using it. Chuuya has a medical episode/flare up and is forced to use a wheelchair of an extended period of time and feels awful about it. So to help him 'recalim' his mobility aid, Yosano helps him get patches and decorate the wheels. Also they're t4t and kiss."

The second image is of manga Chuuya infromt of the wheelchair user flag by fantasy-store
The divider is of the disabled flag but turned into a gradient.

Thinking about how different my life couldve been if i wasnt autistic and physically disabled :(
It's so hard properly accepting at nineteen years old that I can't do a lot of the things people my age do, yano?
Like physical disability wise, i can't walk further than two-three minutes without a walking aid, when i make new friends i have to explain to them about my mobility issues, because i'm scared to just 'show up' with my mobility aid and be seen as faking or unnecessarily using it. I can't just walk about town for hours with my friends, which for some reason everyone i meet seems to wanna do, because i need breaks every five minutes so that i don't pass out / find myself unable to walk back. I can't dance the night away on a damn nightclub dancefloor without drinking copius amounts of alcohol and causing myself to be floored pain wise the next week or so. I panic when travelling because i'm not sure my rolator will fit into the bus, i panic when walking around with my rolator because i'm scared people will look at me and think i don't need it.
When it comes to me being autistic, it's so hard to socialise no matter how much i want to because i never feel like i can fully drop my mask, and its EXHAUSTING. I get so burnt out and i cant talk to ANYONE for ages, and then when it comes to talking to people again after a week or two of not talking to them, i'm too anxious to message first 😭 i also struggle so hard making friends irl because i do not know how to just walk up to people and talk to them, and even when i DO do that, it never goes anywhere, we usually just end up being mutuals on instagram and occasionally like eachothers posts </3 i always worry about coming across as too 'weird' or 'offputting' and i struggle letting people in properly because of the way people would treat me in school due to my autistic traits.
i can't work because of my disabilities, i can't get an education, i literally have two qualifications to my name 😭 i've tried college 4 times and dropped out every time and its SO DRAINING!! i just want to do something with my life, but all i can do is survive :(
Idk i just wonder how different life woulda been, you know? Maybe i'd have a job, maybe even my dream job! Maybe i'd have more qualifications, maybe a dog, or another pet, and maybe i'd have a group of friends. I feel so silly for thinking this way :(
Does anyone else feel similarly?

Perfect People
I work retail, so I can' tellyou honestly that people aren't perfect. We're impatient and inconsiderate sometimes.
But. . .
That little bitty baby watching me sweep, perfect. That chubby miiddle-ged couple looking over the clearance plants so visibly in love are perfect. The gangly teen who's almost as tall as his dad, well, just perfect too. The four-year old twins feeling every single carpet swatch on the display are perfect. The old guy sitting on some kind of rolator waiting for his daughter and who greets me by name--i've got a name tag--when I wheel up a cart of 21 bags of stones for her, well, he's perfect. Each and every day I encounter people who are just so in so many ways.

So i noticed your tags and i just wanted to say, as a cane user: have you thought about something like a walker or rolator? Ngl, ive considered getting one, myself. It helps with more equal weight distribution as well as some types providing a seat for when you need it. I know its more cumbersome, but the benefits might outweigh that.
Just thought it might help! If one type of mobility aide doesnt suit you, another might! Ive also heard that forearm crutches can be good for issues like yours!

So I'm getting a rolator soon. I'll just have to pick it up from a farther away pharmacy. It's not too big of a deal. It's not too difficult to get to. And it's not like I can't ask someone for help (reminder for myself, too). I'm really glad my nurse practitioner could order it for me today.
