“Inside the ball, I was given a choice: Susan, and my life as her husband and father of the child she now carries… or the Tower. I choose the Tower. I must. Let her live a good life and long with someone else - she will, in time. As for me, I choose the Tower.” - Roland of Gilead in Wizard and Glass by Stephen King

Ok, I'm starting to think someday someone would ask me the list of people who did nothing wrong imo, and although sharing it about certain real people may or may not be considered extremism, I will show you my top-10 of characters who did nothing wrong.
1. Magnus The Red. Like, obviously, duh.
2. Princess Azula
3. Amanda Young
4. Roland Of Gilead
5. Konrad Curze
6. Michael Myers(RZ)
7. Harley Quinn
8. DT Keeper
9. Owlking and Wolf Queen
10. Cirilla
Now, if you ask me to explain, I won't do it. I know those are all like, murderers, warmongers and war criminals, but ehm... they did nothing wrong. In my sick mind, all is perfectly fine and I would join most of them in their quest. Get to The Dark Tower by any means? Sure. Slay the Eagle in the name of the night? Great. Slaughter some teens and a bald century-old wanker for the greater good and the strongest nation? Aye-aye! Just have fun? Ripper! Put some heretics to a death trap? I'm in. Vengeance? Vengeance! What, I'm a psychopath? No, I'm just a rich British Aussie. Not like there's too much of a difference.

"The rest of the story was but another version of a tale Roland of Gilead had heard many times and had, in some measure, lived through himself. It was fragmentary and incomplete, undoubtedly shot through with myth and misinformation, its linear progress distorted by the odd changes--both temporal and directional--which were now taking place in the world, and it could be summed up in a single compound sentence: Once there was a world we knew, but that world has moved on."
--The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands, Stephen King

ALRIGHT GUNSLINGERS (derogatory) IT'S TIME TO WALK TO THE DARK TOWER AT THE CENTER OF ALL WORLDS!!
By my reckoning Roland's first steps toward the Tower are taken when he walks out of Gilead as a gunslinger towards Hambry in Mejis, whereupon he is given his task. Now, for reasons I will elaborate on in a later post, it is my firm belief that Castle Gilead, seat of the barony and center of New Canaan, is located in present-day Las Vegas. I have the boys making brief stops in Primm, Searchlight, Nipton, Phoenix, El Paso, and Austin (well, thereabouts) on the way,
Now, I actually had a few options in mind for Hambry: Texas City, Corpus Christi and Galveston. I ended up going with Texas City for the Galveston Vibes without it being on an island - this does not factor into the difference in mileage between Good Boy Mode and Bitch Boy Mode, but if you want to walk along yourself and choose Corpus Christi, the mileage for the leg there and the leg back will be slightly shorter.
So: Gilead to Hambry, by this rough reckoning, is 1585 miles on foot by Google Maps' accounting. 22 straight days on foot, assuming all you do is hike. Probably about the same amount of time by horse.
Since we do not have horses, we will be doing this on foot.
Pictured here: my month-old Palladium boots lol. These bad boys are supposed to last a long time, and I wear them almost every day, so theoretically they will be getting me AT LEAST to Jericho Hill!! We'll see. They did bruise my shins something fierce when I first started wearing them but they're very comfortable now.
I'll do updates every day as part of @yeehawgust this year, so hopefully by the end of August I'll be in Mejis... we'll see though!!

Tbqh. If I were writing for the mike Flanagan the dark tower series i would push back against the idea that the world is truly “moving on” and try to include evidence that its just becoming unrecognizable to old-timers like roland. Because of course for someone like roland the fall of Gilead is evidence of a world in decline, but i think most adults in our world(especially those with power) share his feeling that the world around them is falling apart and becoming more chaotic. But at the same time we can recognize that Gilead’s fucked up gunslinger monarchy is maybe not the best form of government and it might actually be for the best that Gilead is no more. And of course part of rolands whole deal is that he’s not preoccupied with a fascistic desire to return the world back to the way it was before, but instead he just wants to go see the dark tower at the center of the universe and maybe figure out what its whole deal is. And of course he just finds out (spoiler alert) that he’s just like a cog in the great wheel of ka and he has to live his life over and over again to try to “fix” the universe. But i think it would be more interesting if 1) anyone who entered the Tower had the same experience as roland and 2) there is no “saving” the universe because the universe doesn’t need to be saved. It might get really bad and chaotic and we might have to fight against the forces of evil (as roland and friends often do) but in the end ka is a wheel!
Anyways as I’m sure mr flanagan knows, the real Dark Tower is the friends we made along the way
