I dream of making a bowl as strong as an eggshell, as heavy as a whisper. Of capturing and fixing my favourite colours – drake mallard green, oil on water, midnight in midsummer, frosty night skies.

And with silver I can indulge my love of order, imposing my markings on the wood’s surface, complementing the natural flows and eddies of the grain with my precise patterns of dots.

Any plans to be in Jerusalem on July 9 and 10? If you happened to see Sukkah City, the 2010 exhibition in Union Square of twelve winning sukkahs, the world premiere of this feature length documentary film at the Jerusalem International Film Festival is not to be missed. It chronicles the design project (conceived by bestselling author Joshua Foer (Moonwalking with Einstein), produced by Roger Bennett and directed by filmmaker Jason Hutt), which challenged architects and designers to rethink the sukkah, an ancient structure whose parameters are laid out in the Bible but which has become, over time, pretty uninspiring and box-like. The film's cast includes architects, scholars, artists and critics including Thom Mayne, Paul Goldberger, Ron Arad, Maira Kalman, and Michael Arad.

#Quadrille #nesttables in #afrormosiawood designed by #RogerBennett for #GPlan and first featured in the New Models Folder of 1967. Roger Bennett attended High Wycombe Technical College where Gordon Gray and Richard Young were also students. Lucian Ercolani of Ercol Furniture taught there. Bennett's student designs of 1956 led to him receiving a bursory from the Royal Society of Arts. Roger Bennett joined G-Plan as a designer in 1962. Sales were low for G-Plan at the time and Bennett's Quadrille Range of 1965 was a line the public liked, so those sales saved G-Plan. Bennett designed the Dragonfly Group sofa and chair for G-Plan in 1966. In 1967 Bennett worked on the initial designs for Form Five, but left G-Plan in 1970. After the success of his tub chair he designed for the Gogo Range from Evans Intl., Bennett worked for Evans from 1975 through 1980.
