Feliz Navidad.

Other Voices too (a trip back to bountiful) by Nanci Griffith is forever a criminally underrated record, and here is why:
It features more artists of note than most any charity album ever could. Literally. All these artists appear on one record, many on the same songs:
Odette
Ian Tyson
Guy & Susanne Clark
Jean Ritchie
Emmylou Harris (And Meghan Ahern)
Richard Thompson
Lucinda Willams
Rodney Crowell
Gillian Welch
Carolyn Hester
Dolores Keane
Tom Russel
Lyle Lovett
Steve Earle
Harlan Howard
John Prine
Jerry Jeff Walker
Sharon Shannon
And these are just the ones I consider large and well recognized. The record feature at least a doussin more like Rosalie Sorrels, The Kennedys, Julie Gold, Lucy Kaplinsky, Eric Taylor etc. This album is a miracle of artist collaborations and it sounds so great. Just...if you haven't heard it before give it a chance!

I’m gonna link the whole thing because I just watched this in full for the first time and it is absolutely amazing. Something that you definitey couldn’t tell just from shorter clips is how truly and utterly devastated everybody looks.
And I get it. I can’t even imagine how I would feel having known Townes all my life if it’d only been a few months since I lost him. But I don’t have to imagine it, as it’s written all over the faces of some of the best artists in the history of country music who all gathered to pay tribute to someone who was the definition of irreplaceable.
I wished they showed Susanna more - honestly she should have been on that stage with the rest of them - especially when they performed Heavenly Houseboat Blues - but just seeing her there makes me cry. As does Guy clearly trying to be stoic when he’s suffering more than almost everyone else in the room. This is all just incredibly beautiful and moving.

Song Review: Steve Earle & the Dukes - “Dublin Blues”
Ten years after professing his love for Townes Van Zandt with Townes, Steve Earle is singing love songs to - and by - Guy.
Clark, that is.
Earle, with his band, the Dukes, announced his latest move with a cover of Clark’s “Dublin Blues.” It’s the lead single ahead of Guy, which which arrives March 29 and includes Earle’s take on 16 Clark compositions and features assists from, among others, Rodney Crowell, Emmylou Harris, Jerry Jeff Walker and Mickey Raphael.
“You hung around with (Clark) and knew why they call what artists do disciplines,” Earle said in a statement. “Because he was disciplined.”
In Earle’s hands, “Dublin Blues” is a seamless melding of country, folk and rock, with growled lead vocals, pretty high harmonies, power chords, jaunty fiddle and steel guitar bending around it all.
And when Earle sings I’ll love you til I die, it’s impossible to know whether he’s singing to Clark’s muse or to Clark himself.
Which is exactly how a successful cover is supposed to work.
Grade card: Steve Earle & the Dukes - “Dublin Blues” - B+
