Maps stretched out

A decade ago, I was at a certain theme park, taking a simple but enchanting ride on a very famous train.

I was with my family, but somehow ended seated behind a teen or 20-something who was watching a video on her phone, sound on, no headphones.

Ya, you wouldn't catch me supporting the horrible TERF these days, but back then, her horribleness wasn't clear, and I wanted to enjoy the videos on the windows and the voices of beloved characters talking around us.

That sort of thing, I don't expect everyone to be silent, but playing a video at loud volume in a crowded space is just fucking inconsiderate.

The idea that what was an outlier then has become widespread is just... seriously? I've had an old but functional car for most of the years since then, and so haven't been on public transit much, but please say it ain't so.

The only thing that I wonder about (other than who raised these monsters) is if this is because of disappearing headphone jacks? Cause a pair of wired earbuds has never cost that much. But even off-brand airpods or other wireless headsets are an added expense.

That said. You can watch with subtitles or just wait. Seriously. If anyone wants to argue that you need to be able to hear bus announcements or something, fuck right off. You're adding to the background noise, making it harder for everyone to hear. I rode public trasit with headphones for well over a decade, and if I needed to keep an ear out, you know what I did? Either I only put in one ear, or I just didn't listen to shit!

While I think "Eat the Rich" is an infinitely better idea, sometimes I really do sympathize with Hannibal Lecter's stance on eating the Rude.
