January 29th's Film-a-day was the 1974 rock musical "Phantom of The Paradise"
This rock musical has been on my to-watch list as well, ever since I've seen the trailer for it at the previews before Transylvania Nipple Productions' shadowcast performance of Rocky Horror.
This movie seemed more or less like a 70s version of Phantom of The Opera with some differences. I recognized Jessica Harper who played Phoenix in this. She also starred in Shock Treatment, the 1981 sequel to Rocky Horror, she played Janet Majors in that.
I felt bad for Winslow. He just wanted recognition for his music and Swan ruined his life. When Winslow began terrorizing the venue I hate that he signed a deal with that scumbag. I also felt bad for Beef. Yes he was a bit of an overdramatic diva, but he was just doing his job.
While I loved Rocky Horror and Hedwig instantly, it took me a bit to begin to love Shock Treatment. I don't think it will take me as long to love Phantom of The Paradise. I will be rewatching it a few more times so I can learn the songs.

October 17th 1990
Pixies had recently released their third album Bossanova and they were coming to Portsmouth Guildhall on tour.
This was big news for a teenage schoolboy who had been given a copy of Doolittle on cassette a year earlier and had gotten pretty obsessed.
For sometime I had no idea what this band looked like, in my mind I had conjured an image of a rag-tag crew of leather clad, punky, weirdos with back-combed hair. I bought Come on Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa and various 12” records none of which gave away the true identities of the band members, the Vaughan Oliver designed covers only fuelling their off kilter image in my mind.
On the night of the gig myself and some other schoolmates headed early to Portsmouth Guildhall with a plan to try and meet the band.
We arrived at the venue in plenty of time, and found our way to the back of the building via a side entrance.
We stood there looking up at the edifice wondering what to do next when we spotted the band walking past an open window.
“Kim!” we shouted, “Joey!”, and amazingly they stopped and waved to us. We ran over to the window, clambered up some railings to get nearer and one by one they came over, shook our hands and signed scraps of paper for us. Well, everyone except Black Francis, but that didn’t matter. To be honest, all I really wanted was to meet Kim Deal.
As you can imagine, our teenage minds were blown by this encounter. The idea that these people were actually real, let alone that we had met them and they had been so friendly and generous was unbelievable. And so, we went in to the venue ridiculously excited that this had happened and watched a gig that felt like it was being performed just for us. I was mesmerised, enjoying what felt like the best night of my life.
And I’m pretty sure Kim kept smiling at me :)
At the end of the gig the band threw the setlists into the crowd and I somehow managed to bag one. Where it is now I don't know, I’ve been though al the 'boxes of my past' in the loft but to no avail…
And so, almost 35 years later I’ve created my first bit of Pixies fan art! The band split quite suddenly in 1993 but have enjoyed more recent success after reforming, albeit without Kim :(
This poster is a nod to that special night in 1990 and the fact that the band are going strong and performing live ‘All Over the World’.
Swipe along for the autographs as well as a review of the gig form our local paper. I’ll keep looking for that setlist…

Rock n Roll all Night and....
Rock n roll fans, let’s crank it up!
On this day March 19, 1975, KISS dropped Dressed to Kill, and with it the anthem of a generation
Gene Simmons once said it’s about that primal urge to 'party every day'
No deep philosophy with this track

Enjoy!!

The Rain song + Robert as a knight 🍄💦
📰 The Song Remains the Same is a concert film that was released in 1976. The concert part was filmed during Led Zeppelin’s performances between july 27th to 29th 1973 at the Madison Square Garde, NY. However, many problems were encountered during the process : Jimmy and John Paul Jones' outfits changes between the different nights ; the cameras during the shows that would run out of film reels leading to some parts of the shows being missing ; while some other footages were just unusable. Thus to complete the film, the band had to re-shoot some of the live performances at Shepperton Studios in the UK (where they had to mimick their own live improvisations) and also added some fantasy sequences where each members would express their personnal creative universe and interests.
💚 Here I made an edit using bits of robert's fantasy sequence where he's a knight exploring a sort of arthurian/tolkien like universe full of castles, damsels, swords and ...mushrooms. I also included some random illustrational videos along with it. Hope you guys will enjoy and also welcome to the new ones ! 👋

* 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟗 *
On the date of December 3rd 1979 a famous British rock band ‘The Who’ held a concert at the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, Ohio. While the venue was using festival seating, The band was preforming sound checks while fans waited in line, making fans in the back to believe they were preforming. Fans of the band began trampling people that stood in front of them. This caused 11 deaths, as well as 26 people being injured.
Unfortunately for the band members the authorities did not let them know of the tragedy and they played the concert as normal. In addition to the tragedy the band did not return back to the city until 43 years later during May of 2022.

Bitter End is an emotional pop-rock song that combines powerful guitar riffs with anthemic choruses. It tells the story of the end of a love that was once filled with passion and hope but has gradually faded, leaving only memories. With lyrics full of nostalgia and reflection. The song balances the strength of rock with the delicacy of pop, creating an anthem for a final goodbye while leaving space for the future.
