Knew all of this and it's always saddened me the way it's unknown and the reasons why. Part of him being widely known as a gay man, rather than bi, was because he died of AIDS and that was deemed a disease that was spread exclusively by gay men and junkies. It suited the homophobic rhetoric of the time regarding HIV/AIDS to ignore the fact he had a long relationship with a woman.
Something important to understand is that many gay men (still to this day), feel pressured to be with women to hide their sexuality. That does not seem to be the case with Farrokh because of the following, but still could have been.
Despite their breakup years prior, Mary Austin had remained his friend and was there for him at the end, bequeathed most of his estate, and was the one he entrusted his ashes to.
In a 1985 interview, he said of Austin: "All my lovers asked me why they couldn't replace Mary, but it's simply impossible. The only friend I've got is Mary, and I don't want anybody else. To me, she was my common-law wife. To me, it was a marriage. We believe in each other, that's enough for me." They were so close that after she did get married and had kids, she named him the godfather of her oldest son. In his will, he left his London home to her, and told her, "You would have been my wife, and it would have been yours anyway."
From 1979 to 1985 he lived in Munich and dated a restauranteur named Winfried "Winnie" Kirchberger. He briefly lived at his apartment, likely with him, and thanked him "for board and lodging" in the liner notes of his 1985 album Mr. Bad Guy. He wore a silver wedding band given to him by Kirchberger while they were together.
In 1985 he began a relationship with Jim Hutton, whom he referred to as his husband. He described their relationship as one built on solace and understanding, and said that he "honestly couldn't ask for better". Hutton, who tested HIV-positive in 1990, lived with him for the last seven years of his life, nursed him during his illness, and was present at his bedside when he died. Farrokh wore a gold wedding band, given to him by Hutton in 1986, until the end of his life. He was cremated with it on. Hutton relocated from London to the bungalow he and Mercury had built for themselves in Ireland.
All of that is available with sources on his wiki.
He had three relationships he considered as marriages, one to a woman, and two to men.
It's unknown what his sexuality was because he very likely could have been pan, demi, bi, or gay with a trusted friend he tried to do the het thing with. What's clear is that he was definitely not hetero, but rather queer, and shall forever be our Queen.

People who say bi erasure doesn’t happen need to realize Freddie Mercury is known as the most famous homosexual man when he identified himself as bisexual. If that’s not bi erasure I don’t even know.
