Verco's chromodorid (Verconia verconis) is a dorid nudibranch found along the coast of southern Australia. A relatively large sea slug, it typically is about 6cm long. It's named after Sir Joseph Verco (1853 - 1933), a physician from South Australia who was also very interested in shell collecting and marine biology! The slug itself blends in remarkably well with its main food (not pictured), a pink sponge.

Is it too late to trick or treat?
What’s this? A pioneering youth expanding Halloween into November? How could I refuse such confidence! Such passion! Hmmm let me see what I have in the pantry…
You get an opalescent nudibranch (Hermissenda opalescens)! They’re ferocious little beasts that eat cnidarians like anemones and jellyfish. Not only are they immune to the stinging nematocysts of their prey, they actually integrate them into their bodies to sting their own would-be predators!

[Images Description: A male American Kestrel and a female Merlin perch closely on a barbed wire. The American Kestrel is the smaller falcon and is rufous with blue-grey on it’s outer wings. The Merlin is dark grey-brown with a dark streaked belly. In the second photo, the male moves closer as to be touching the female and bows towards her wing while she looks at him. /End ID.]
This is an apparent interspecies pairing within the genus Falco. Another record of a wild interspecific falcon pair was published in “Hybridization between a Peregrine Falcon and a Prairie Falcon in the wild” (Oliphant, 1991).

This tiny clam, only 11 milimimeters in length, named Cymatioa cooki, was believed to be extinct for 40,000 years, but was recently found living on the coast of Santa Barbara, California, only about 3 of them have been found. In 1937, the molluscan fauna from local Pleistocene deposit described nearly 300 species, with the description of two clams, Rochefortia reyana and Bornia cooki (now Cymatioa cooki). Since then, Cymatioia cooki was believe to be extinct, until now.
Cymatioa cooki is a rare species, and while other related species have been shown to be commensal with other invertebrates, researchers have been unable to determine any specific commensal relationships for it.

Photo description: The clam has a long foot, the shell is ovaloid, pale and translucent. The clam is in sand with small algaes nearby.
