something’s missing?
The umbrella academy x f,platonic reader
warnings : female reader, TUA!sibling, swearing
i don’t know if this should be a series, i may decide after seeing if this one does good, it’s based after the first episode of the first season, if i messed anything up constructive criticism is welcome, hope you enjoy reading it, much love 🫶
Being the eighth child that Reginald Hargreeves adopted was never easy, especially with the gift that the young lady had, her gift was cloning herself which is super cool and fun but the downside was that she never aged, so currently she’s stuck in a fourteen year olds body with the mentally of an adult.
Saying that she never got to move out of the luxurious place she calls a home because no one would sell her an apartment, they always told her ‘your to young sweetie’ ‘ you don’t have a stable income’
she never pushes it.
So here she stands in her blue cargo jeans, complemented with a lavender purple long sleeved shirt, with her black high top converse, completed with her brown leather coat that reached just above her knees, her soft brown hair was in a half up half down style to show off her pierced ears filled with golden jewelry, this day she didn’t put in her contacts so she wore her glasses to complete her ‘funeral’ look.
She looks up from the book she’s reading as she heard the door open and close, she got up to get a closer look and as she did she saw her sister, well adopted sister, Vanya. She walked up to her and said “haven’t seen you in a while musician.”
Vanya looked at her and gave her a small smile “seems like we’ve all been busy, right?”
Y/n walked to her and gave her a small hug showing how much she missed the girl. “Crazy how the old man signed out, am i right” she said while chuckling. No use of crying over someone that was a shit person.
“ya it-“ before she could continue both the lady’s saw Allison.
“you came” allison said in basically a whisper because of how low she was speaking
“ya i did, i should probably go though, i don’t think anyone wants me here” Vanga had replied in the same tone, as she said that Diego walked by and said “you don’t belong here, not after what you did” as he began his walk up the stairs.
“Your seriously doing this today?” Allison replied
Diego didn’t reply but carried on his walk upstairs “ way to dress for the occasion by the way.” Allison scolded “At least i’m wearing black” Diego responded with
“i’m sorry he’s a grumpy little bitch.” y/n said to Vanya all she got back was a ghost of a smile
y/n left the hall as Vanya and Allison continued to talk. she walked back to the library to sit down and wait for the rest of her siblings
——————
eventually the rest of the siblings joined her, but the atmosphere was tense it was as if everyone had knives in their throats and if they spoke it would cut their necks open, slowly but surely, everyone was doing their own things, Diego looking out the window, Allison drinking something.
Luther was the first to break the silence “um… i guess you we should get this started. So i figured we could have a sort of memorial service in the courtyard at sundown say a few words, just at dad’s favorite spot.” after that Y/n decides to zone out not wanting to hear the oncoming agrument.
——————
it’s been a few minutes until Y/n decided to tune back in just as everyone started walking out, she joined not knowing why but went to her room. locking the door and ignoring the music that started playing coming from across the hall in Luther’s room.
After a few seconds there was a bright flash of blue light that filled her room she looked out the window looking at the courtyard seeing the blue looking portal thing, she rushed out her room to get there before anyone else, soon they all joined her.
The heavy wind was making all the leaves on the floor lift and move around the area as everyone stood dumbfounded and the blue light
“What is it!?” Vanya exclaimed
“Don’t get to close.” Allison replied like the mother she is
“yeah, no shit, looks like some temporal anomaly, either that or a miniature black hole. One of the two” Diego reported to Allison
Y/n looked at him as if he was stupid and replied “black holes are only in space dipshit, we are not in space, never have been never will be. excluding Luther of course.” Diego gave her a look as if he’d just been insulted.
Klause came running out with a fire extinguisher and put it on to blow towards the blue thing, nothing happens so then he threw it into the hole, the fire extinguisher just disappearing “what is that going to do?” Allison said to him
“i don’t know, do you have a better idea” Klause said while rasing his hands in a defensive way, just as he said that a face appeared in the middle of the hole, a familiar face as he was pushing himself out of the floating thing, he managed to do so but fell from said height and landed on his stomach.
“Is it just me or do you all see a mini Five?” as Klause said that, the suspected lifted his head looked at everyone and exclaimed “Shit.”
——————
we’re all inside now looking at Five with looks of curiosity. wondering where he’s been all this time, Five walks around getting stuff for his famous peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich.
“what’s the date? the exact date.” Five said while sighing
“the 24th” Vanya replied
“of what?” Five said slightly annoyed
“March”
“Good.” Five said
“So are we gonna talk about what just happened?” Luther said
Five remanded quiet after what was said, Y/n didn’t think this was going anywhere so she walked out to the library and looked at Fives portrait.
a little while later five walked in and stood next to her, giving Y/n a small shove and said “Now tell me why the hell your still so young?” Y/n giggled as he said that “my gift, apparently it has a downside.” Y/n replied, she looked up a little as she was a bit shorter than the boy standing next to her. “i’ve been this age for 16 years, just after you left. Been a bitch to buy my own apartment, or getting a job, but i won’t get wrinkles anytime soon” she laugh out, Five letting out a small chuckle with her. “why do you look so young?”
“i’m actually 58 but coming back i got stuck in my 13 year old selves body, kinda a shit deal, don’t you think?” Five responded to the question, while looking at Y/n he noticed how little she’s changed, sure she was a bit taller but other than that she still had her long brown hair and the same sense of style with her gold jewelry and her outfits have barely changed too.
Y/n looked at him and pulled him into a hug which he reciprocated and she whispered in his ear “ i’m glad your back Five, missed annoying you.” Five pulled back and gave her a smile “Glad to be back”
Y/n then walked around him to go back to her bedroom as Five watching her retreating figure, he wonders how much he’s missed out on by being away.
Five shortly leaves the library after Y/n

Thoughts on what kind of bird gabird would be/look like/based off?
My personal pick just for the theme of it would be a Luzon bleeding-heart
But for something more visually on brand there are a lot of options! I tried to pick ones that people probably haven't seen before :]
From the top left to right -
Egyptian vulture
Yellow-winged cacique or Mexican cacique
Golden myna
Black-and-gold tanager
Black-faced dacnis (they can have white or yellow bellies)
Hooded mountain tanager
Silvery tanager or Silver-backed tanager
Common sunbird-asity
Black-throated magpie jay
Blue-bellied roller
Beach kingfisher
Great hornbill
White-bellied sea eagle
Madagascar blue vanga
#Blue-bellied roller (the flying one) definitely has the closest wings#took me a bit to answer this one#i wanted to gather some options :)#non voice post#ask#asks

All Tomorrows: Vanga-Vangog Rot Eater headcanons
Finally comes the Rot Eaters, Vanga-Vangog’s descendants of the Bone Crusher’s, infamously known to show affection via the throwing of poop. Inspite of reaching the medieval era of civilization, teh Bone Crusher’s would all apparently starve from the lack of dead corpse to feed from, as well as other disasters, atleast in canon.
Instead of starving to death, the Bonecrusher’s managed to learn how to ferment their food, allowing them to better survive the scarcity of dead corpses to eat from. Outside of growing leaner, little else of the Rot Eater’s evolution changed from their ancestors, and they still did the “defecate to show affection” thing, albeit diminished.
TW FOR POOP AND BODILY FLUIDS!
-To get through with it already, yes, they did defecate to show affection. But this was during special occasions, such as their equivalent of weddings and birth, not something they did daily or out of the blue. (Infact, it was a highly ritualized tradition.)
-And yes… children would be fed the poop of their parents to better develop gut bacteria to better process food. Speaking of, they not only ate fermented meat, but also fermented cheese, alcohol, and even bread. (Also their alcohol was extremely strong, one tiny sip from it would make you pass out quickly)
-As smell was as important as hearing and sight in their cultures, the would distinguish themselves with extremely strong, long-lasting perfumes, often smelling similar to a skunk of animal marking. Some perfume trends would involve much spicier, bitter, or even sweet smells.
-They don’t wear much clothes, (Outside of dangerous weather or cold temperatures) as they highly valued their natural bodies and wished to show them off to society, friends, and neighbors. It also would get in the way of the sweat and other glands they used to communicate. At most, they’d wear a loincloth, glasses, or a scarf.
-Their spoken and written language was a mix between words, sign, and the excretion of scents and fluids. Their television and screens also utilized a mix of sight and smell, being an in between of our own as well as the Symbiotes olfactory television.
-Inspite of these practices, they were historically a very welcoming and accepting people. They did not discriminate and, in fact, heavily encouraged the self expression of their people and other posthuman cousins. They were historically very accepting of Queer people and the disabled, not at all othering them in mainstream society.
-There was a birth condition quite common in their culture, about as common as autism or ADHD was in our own species. This condition would have children be born with the physique of their Bonecrusher ancestors. This would make them extremely heavily built, STRONG af and have an even greater sense of smell than the average Rot Eater. They were historically seen as leader-like figures or elite soldiers in their society, though currently these folk are treated as just normal Rot Eater’s. (Outside of being asked more often to do physically straining tasks by friends and family.)
-Another common birth condition was when a child was born with a deformed, often stylized beak. (A holdover from the Bonecrusher’s relatives who acted as living beak art for the Qu. They’d look similar to this post) It was about as common as the last birth condition, though had few benefits, as a heavily deformed, stylized beak would give you difficulty with eating, speaking, or even opening their mouthes. Thankfully, the Rot Eater’s culture of acceptance allowed most of these people to live long, happy lives with minimal complications, often taking pride in how different their beaks were.
-Along with the Killer Folk, Satyriac’s, and another one of Vanga’s species I will explore, they’d be the founders of the Second Empire. Compared to the stereotypes of the Killer Folk’s more serious, warlike nature, the Satyriac’s uninhibited party-loving pursuit of pleasure, or the other species more spaced-out wiseness, the Rot Eater’s were treated as the simple straight man among the quartet. Of course, stereotypes were merely stereotypes with only a small or surface level basis.

so i named the fantasy counterpart bengal in blue horizon a certain way based on my dad's theory of it being based on "banga/vanga" which means broken [land] and i hope it doesn't sound stupid when it debuts. 💦💦💦
(because of all the rivers.)
it will be a fantasy-counterpart stand-in/mix of west bengal and bangladesh.

A Mayfair Mooch
Along the way, down Picadilly...
Royal Academy – Entangled Pasts - Tavares Strachan
Sculptures and Other Matters
Peter Blake at Waddington Custot - until 13 April 2024
From The Press Release:
Blake’s work in three dimensions has remained remarkably consistent over six decades of his career. An early engagement with found objects and themes of fandom begins with the seminal ‘Locker’ (1959). This sculpture, an old RAF locker covered in glamorous pin-up images, was first shown at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London in 1960 and is one of the earliest expressions of British ‘Pop’ culture.
Imagination and storytelling are central to Blake’s sculpture. His assemblages of found objects evoke particular atmospheres, allowing the viewer to piece together a narrative suggested by the components of the tableaux. In the ‘Still Life’ series of 2003, homages are made to fellow artists including Claude Monet, Giorgio Morandi and Joseph Cornell, who take the place of pop icons and movie stars as the subjects of Blake’s fandom. Little jokes nudge the viewer along: ‘In the Cubist’s Kitchen’ (2003) features a tobacco pipe, while ‘Then & Now, For Damien’ (2003) gathers miniature bottles along a shelf, a reference both to Damien Hirst’s (now lapsed) heavy drinking and to Leonardo's ‘Last Supper’ of 1495–1498. In a later series dedicated to artist and cartoonist Saul Steinberg, Blake assembles found items in compositions which directly reference the other artist’s sculptures of the 1970s and 1980s, in which he whittled and painted similar objects in wood.
Throughout the exhibition, Blake dances across a rich variety of cultural and artistic references, and with typically childish enjoyment, he invites the audience to participate actively in the construction of meaning, fostering a sense of playfulness and discovery.
Just a few of my favourites from the show:

Ranbir Kapoor chants ‘Jai Mata Di’ during Kapoor family Christmas cake-cutting, watch
Ranbir Kapoor unexpectedly chants Jai Mata Di while cutting the family's Christmas cake and sparking laughter.
Christmas cheer swept through Bollywood as celebrities embraced the holiday spirit with heartwarming traditions, family gatherings, and dazzling celebrations. From cosy gatherings to exotic getaways, social media buzzed with glimpses of how our favourite stars rang in the festive season. Among many others, a video of Ranbir Kapoor chanting 'Jai Mata Di' is grabbing everyone's attention.
In the viral video, Ranbir is seen joining Kunal to set the Christmas cake/pudding on fire at the Kapoor family’s Christmas lunch. After the cake was set on fire, Ranbir can be heard saying, ‘Jai Mata Di.’
instagram
In addition to this, the Kapoor family’s Christmas lunch became memorable for another reason. For the unversed, Ranbir and Alia, for the first time, revealed the face of their daughter Raha. Their blue-eyed daughter was seen wearing a pink and white dress with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer work on her dress.
instagram
Coming to the professional front, Ranbir is currently seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal. The film was released on December 1. Besides Kapoor, it also starred Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol. Meanwhile, Triptii Dimri, Shakti Kapoor and Sourabh Sachdeva played supporting roles

Blue Lions: Edelgard started a war because of her ideals? That makes zero sense why would somebody do that
Me: You were all attending a knight academy to study warcraft and you are questioning why somebody would start a war over their beliefs? What is a knight if not somebody who fights for what they think is right? Did you think I was taking you out to teach you killing was fun, life is disposable, and you can use it to get out of dealing with your emotions?
Dimitri: Yes absolutely

After Blue Horizon: BDSD comic 4 - updated specifics of main 6 fantasy counterpart cultural backgrounds
So after FINALLY dropping Blue Horizon: Bright Days, Sad Days comic 4, I'll clarify:
Antonio is mixed fantasy counterpart Bengali + Bangladeshi ("Pathran") and Mexican ("Citaalan")!
Layla is fantasy counterpart Bengali + Bangladeshi ("Pathran"). (Though I made one of her mothers a bit ambiguous over whether she is black or not.)
Alia and Khaleel are fantasy counterpart Nigerian and Sudanian [+ Nubian] and Indian second gen. Leo is fantasy counterpart Nigerian who moved to fantasy counterpart India too, as their families lived in and moved to the same area for reasons (but he's possibly first gen).
Alejandro is mixed fantasy counterpart Mexican and Apache.
So... "Pathra" (path means pathway in Bangla) is fantasy counterpart Bengal + Bangladesh. Hopefully the name doesn't sound too weird, but I based it on my dad's theory that "Bangla" comes from "Banga/Vanga" which means "broken" [lands, due to many rivers].
Citaatlco comes from "Citlali" = "star", "atl" = "water", and "co" = "place" in Nahuatl.
(I'm suddenly worried my dumb ass took off the "Citla" on accident during my notes but we'll stick to this since I canonized it. I need to sort through my docs to find my notes, but it's possible I just tried to smash it a certain way. Unsure.)
The names of Alia, Khaleel, Leo and Alejandro's fantasy counterpart regions will be revealed in the upcoming epic science fantasy, The Protector and the Annihilation.
This is an updated version of this ancient post.
