04X40 - The Silent Gun
Malcolm attends a call at a house after a report of a disturbance. However upon talking to the complainants he realises it's much deeper. Bailiffs had been trying to force the door of a bedsit open when the man inside released several rounds from a gun, injuring one of the Bailiffs hands. Malcolm questions why he wasn't told that a gun was involved and the middle class woman admits she was rather flustered to find out her tenant had a gun. She also forgot to ask for an ambulance and to mention that the man with a gun is still inside the house, locked in his room on the top floor.
Brownlow has a holiday that he's just about to leave for as news of the shooting comes in. Malcolm has a look up the stairs but there's no movement.
Bob. Tony and Derek get their guns and bullets signed out to them by Brownlow and Derek is assigned negotiator. Brownlow will be the scene coordinator, Bob is to be his runner and the others are back up.
The woman tells Malcolm that his name is 'Dublin' and she assumes he's Irish because of his name but she's never actually spoken to him. He hasn't paid rent for 6 months and is rather reclusive. She's been through all the legal routes to get him out but he won't leave hence the bailiffs being there.
Jim is sent to try and get access to the house opposite to gain an observation point. A crowd gathers despite Yorkie trying to get everyone to go home and stay inside. Bob and Derek take up positions with their guns with Derek making his way into the house.
Derek slowly starts climbing the stairs. He gets outside the room in question without harm and takes a long deep breath in. "Derek, any sign of life?" asks Brownlow. "Just my guts turning over, sir."
Jim couldn't get in the house suggested as an observation point as the woman he encountered freaked out. He's had to go to the next house along and reports a thick curtain over the window in question.
The firearms boss arrives dressed in a suit and is introduced to Brownlow. Soon after a group of armed police arrive and take over from Bob to allow him inside to assist Derek and Charles. The boss of the firearms is awesome and asks for a canteen van to be brought because he's there to make sure everyone is safe and calm and that the job ends in the same way, however long it takes. If it's not and not everyone is alive at the end - he considers that he hasn't done his job.
Yorkie has to deal with an idiot who wants to leave his house and dodge the police to get to the local shop. He refuses to go out the back, even when Yorkie points out that he's likely to get shot! Thankfully Claire's neighbour is a lot more reasonable and agrees to keep out of the way and in the back of her house.
Derek attempts to make contact with the armed police around him. He asks Mr Dublin if he can hear him and is answered by a toilet flush and Ted making his way out of the bathroom.🤣 Derek tries again but Dublin remains silent. Derek tells him that the bailiff is OK and not seriously injured. He asks him to leave the gun in his room and come out for a chat so he can help him with his problems. Dublin doesn't answer and there's no movement inside. He asks for the man's first name and is still met with silence.
Alec reports to Brownlow that the press would like to come nearer. He refuses and tells Alec to nick them if they try it before muttering to Ted that perhaps they should let them through as the only good journalist is a dead one. The middle-class house owner beams at Charles as she tells him that her brother was a journalist for the Telegraph.
Viv shows Brownlow some post addressed to a Mr Lublin from Poland that haven't been collected. She suggests that the name they've been given for 'Mr Dublin' is wrong and that he's 'Mr Lublin' instead. There's also an old rent book in the same name.
Bob pops upstairs. "... Do you speak Polish?" he asks Derek.
Technical Support blunder into the house and ask Derek how he's going. Derek tells them he's asked for an interpreter as there's been no movement or response yet. The armed officer's boss silences them all when he hears movement...
Outside, the canteen van is doing a roaring trade. Taffy asks Claire how you get all the hedgehogs in the world on a single matchbox. Claire has no idea.
The extra we've been talking about, Bryan Jacobs gets to speak in this episode! He says 'not again' and 'he is!' when Yorkie asks him who's winning their game of cards in the back of the police van.
Robin moans about how long it's taking, claiming the sooner it's over the better. Yorkie takes Alec a tea, he pouts because it's not coffee and sends him back to get him a sandwich.
The house owner is starting to get concerned that it won't be over by the time two students she tutors are due to arrive at 8pm. Malcolm and Ken make them all jump - including startling the snoozing Ted - by celebrating as a goal is scored on TV. [Very surprised Brownlow doesn't bollock them given what they're there for!]
Derek gets the interpreter to ask if he'd like a drink, and Mr Lublin continues ignoring them. "Perhaps he's on the wagon." Derek drawls before checking in with the tech guys who tell him there's half an inch to go before their probes are through the wall. "... Let's hope you don't come out behind the wardrobe again." Derek mutters earning himself a glare.
Brownlow talks to the armed officer's boss who tells him it doesn't matter that they've been waiting four hours, he still needs to bring it to a peaceful resolution. Brownlow points out the streetful of people wanting to return to their homes and an MP moaning about overkill.
Yorkie heads to a local shop to buy a packet of biscuits and speaks to the shopkeeper who tells him that he thought the Polish tenant had gone because he hadn't been in for months whereas before he was a regular visitor for his cereal. Yorkie asks if he ever spoke to the man and the shopkeeper says no, there was no point. He's deaf.
Outside the crowd are getting moody and wanting to return to their homes. One man in particular tries to push his way through Alec. He gets rough and ends up getting bundled into a police van to calm down. Another old lady reports her rice pudding that she left on a low flame might be about to spoil so Taffy is sent in to turn it off!
Brownlow speaks to the armed officers and explains that he's deaf and claims that they've wasted time trying to speak to him. The armed officer points out that if he's heard nothing he's more dangerous as he'd panic and fire at them in shock. The police dog barks at Charles as the man walks off like he's telling him off 🤣
Ted goes over to relieve Jim who has needed a pee for an hour. He reckons they should have gone in as soon as they were in place and took him by surprise and the job now has too much heavy thinking.
Tech are now going for their third set of holes after the last set also didn't work. Derek points out it could be a wall-to-wall bookcase but the man insists he knows it'll be right that time. The heat monitor is also not helping as what is seen could be body heat or also could be a fire! "When you join up those once little holes you'd drilling we can lift the roof up and have a look, can't we!?" Derek snarks.
Taffy tries to get into the house of the old lady and ends up breaking the window of her back door as everything else is locked. He's in the wrong house as he's confronted by two men and finds no rice pudding on the stove.
With no further movement, the officers prepare to go in with a police dog. The armed officers and a light are prepared and Viv asks the lady to stay where she is. They break the door in and push through a barricade to get the dog in before pushing in themselves. Inside they find the dog sat beside the old man who has literally curled into a ball with his hands over his head. The gun is on the bed.
With everything resolved and the old man arrested, the specialist forces leave. Derek and the suspect are mobbed by the press. Jim and Ted watch on in silence with Ted turning to Jim.
".... So what was the score?"

“I can’t believe you’re squatting in an occupied house, Danny. That’s… actually isn’t that also breaking and entering? That’s a crime, isn’t it?”
“One, at least I don’t have to pay rent and/or utilities. Two, Tim let me stay. And three, I’m a vigilante. Breaking and entering is like the basics of being one. Also, they’re paying me now. This is a legit job now!”
Jazz sighed and tucked her hair behind her ear. “Whatever, dumbass. Where is Tim, anyways?”
“He’s in bed.”
“Really?” Jazz raised an eyebrow and rested a hand on her hip. “Then what’s that?”
Danny whirled around, making eye contact with a frozen Tim.
“Ahah-”
Danny groaned, cutting Tim’s awkward laughter and no-doubt bullshit excuse.
“Kid, Tim, we talked about this.”
“It’s for the aesthetics!” Tim protested, the argument well worn, but obligingly stepping away from the window sill.
Danny shot Jazz a disgruntled look when she muttered, “Well, doesn’t that sound familiar.”
“It’s a school night, Tim.” Danny crossed the room, ushering Tim away from the door. The halfa could probably put down professional babysitter on his resume. If he could handle Tim “climb out of windows” Drake and Tim “sleeps in hard to reach places” Drake in the same day, he could handle anything.
Tim puffed up, like a disgruntled kitten. “Robin gets to go out on a school night! And he’s my age! Kinda! And at least I’m not fighting criminals!”
Again, this is an argument they’ve had multiple times.
“Not for a lack of trying,” Danny muttered, rolling his eyes when Jazz snickered. He made the mistake of looking down at Tim’s convincing little sad kitten act and sighed. “Alright, alright. We get two hours of batwatching, then you go to sleep.”
“Deal!” Tim cheered. Jazz grinned, mouthing ‘weak’ at Danny, who promptly made like his high school self and ignored her.
“Go get your jacket. And some thicker socks, you’re gonna freezing out there.”
“Okay!!”
When Tim was out of earshot, excitedly thundering down the lavish hallway, Jazz tilted her head back and laughed.
“Oh, shut up.”
“How the tables have tabled, huh, Danny?” Jazz snickered.
“You think you got jokes,” Danny pointed at her with a new mug of coffee. “Laugh it up, but don’t forget that you’re his older sister now too.”
Jazz paled. “Oh, shit.”
“Yeah, that’s right. Now you gotta deal with two of us!”
“Two of who?” Tim returned, bundled up in a fancy puffy jacket. Jazz cooed at him, kneeling down to zip his jacket up. Danny, echoing her, magically grabbed a scarf and wrapped around Tim.
“Us, her little brothers. Unfortunately, you’re now our little brother and that means Jazz is gonna mother you like you’re a baby duck.”
Danny ducked the half hearted smack Jazz sent his way, grinning at Tim. The kid had a self conscious smile on his face, bashful at the unprecedented (for him) attention and affection. Danny’s smile tightened when Tim looked at Jazz for confirmation (which she gave). If it weren’t for the fact that Tim loved his parents, Danny would have spirited (hah!) the kid away. He’s like a textbook case of neglect. It’s why he keeps trying to sneak out in ways that’ll easily get him caught. He’s trying to test if Danny would get mad and leave-
“Oh my god. I’m turning into you, Jazz.” Danny said, horrified.
“What?” Jazz narrowed her eyes once the statement sunk in. “What’s wrong with being more like me? I can actually process my emotions in a timely manner, thanks.”
Danny, stuck in the horror of understanding someone’s motivations and processing some of his own trauma, shuddered.
Danny picked up Tim and swung him onto his shoulders. “C’mon, Timmy. Let’s get out of here before Jazz gives us germs.”
“Oh, that’s real rich coming from the greasiest vigilante this side of the river.”
“Not true! Green Arrow’s greasier!”
“Eh, he doesn’t count. He’s in Oregon or something, right?”
“Who cares? I wanna see Robin!” Tim wriggled, placing his heavy ass camera on Danny’s head. “He’s a new Robin! The first one moved to Blüdhaven!”
“To be a cop, right?” Danny asked.
“Yeah. It’s… not great. And kinda ironic.”
“ACAB.”
——
Batman snuck closer to the glowing green figure that was glancing around the rooftops. He’s glad he sent Robin home hours ago, because variables in Gotham tended to be dangerous.
He dropped to a crouch behind the figure, who turned around as soon as he did, looking unsurprised. The being had enhanced hearing then, if not enhanced everything else.
“There you are!” The being scowled at him, but Bruce couldn’t detect any actual hostility. Only weariness. “I’ve been looking for you for ages.”
Nevertheless, he hadn’t survived this long by being careless.
“What is your business in Gotham?” He deepened his voice, adding enough gravel to sound mildly threatening.
The being shook their head, white hair unnaturally waving in the air. Like it was under water.
“I live here. I have a bone to pick with you.” Batman loosened his stance, readying to move.
“Can you keep Robin in on school nights?! If you can’t, can’t you make him go home sooner? My kid brother keeps trying to sneak out of the house to imitate Robin and it’s killing me! Do you know how many times I’ve had to stop him from climbing out of the window? We live on the third floor, man!”
A frazzled older brother. Batman-Bruce grimaced. He couldn’t stop Jason anymore than this being could. Also, “You live here?”
The being scowled, looking defensive. “Why, I can’t? Are you being discriminatory? Because I refuse to take shit from a grown man in a bat-sona.”
“…A bat-what?”
The being sighed. “Nevermind. Yes. I live here. My name is Phantom.”
“Don’t cause any trouble.” Batman warned before hesitating. The being was young, that was clear. He kind of reminded Bruce of Dick, and it made Batman’s tone soften. “And I will try. Robin is resolute.”
Phantom dropped his glowing face into his hands, a move Bruce often wanted to mirror.
“Yeah, tell me about it.”
——
Sorry guys I really like tired babysitter brother Danny and unnecessarily jumping out of windows Tim. This is before Tim decided to be a vigilante. This is after Dick moves out.

DPxDC - The Bat Key
there were a few posts going around a bit ago about Danny being Bruce's mentor in his early years, and they planted this idea in my head. i mixed in some cryptid danny for fun and to fit the halloween vibe. also on ao3
Batman grunted in pain as he hurried down the dark, townhouse-lined sidewalk. The cloudy night blocked the moonlight, and the lamps along the entire street were out, but they still moved between the shadows under the trees. The slash wound in his side was painful to the point that he had an arm around Robin’s shoulder to prop himself up. He scowled with each grunt. At least the blade hadn’t been spiked with venom. The same couldn’t be said for Red Robin’s wound. He was barely conscious, and Nightwing had to practically carry him. But they had finally made it here.
“Door.”
Nightwing hobbled up the few steps to the small porch and leaned against the wall to help hold some of Red Robin’s weight. Robin rushed to the door, already pulling a pick set from his utility belt. Batman managed to ascend the few steps himself, double checking the 13 to the side of the door.
“Wait.”
Robin scowled once again, but he complied. Batman pulled a small strip of metal from the lining of his utility belt. The tip was cut into a jagged, hooked pattern. He slipped it behind the bat symbol on his chest from underneath and twisted it a half spin. When he slid it back out, there was a house key attached to the end. Once free, he inserted it into the deadbolt and removed his hand. The temperature immediately dropped. Batman sighed in relief.
“What are –”
Robin’s question died before it was finished as the key began glowing green. It slowly rotated itself with the sound of grinding gears until a click echoed from behind the door.
“Oh great, I’m hallucinating” Red Robin wheezed out.
Batman turned the knob and pushed the door open.
“In.”
Robin entered first, crouched and alert. Nightwing followed, Red Robin draped over his shoulders. Batman took one more look around and spotted one of their assailants across the street, staring with their two glowing yellow eyes. He held the gaze for a silent few seconds, tension slowly leaving his body as they remained deathly still, then stepped inside and closed the door.
The large circular window high above the door lit the entryway with moonlight from the clear night sky. A staircase on the left led up into the dark, its railing marking out a small hallway balcony above. To their right was a small table, empty except for an unlit lamp. Past that on the same wall was an archway that led to a dark room pierced just enough by the moonlight for a large couch to be visible. The hallways straight ahead stretched into void.
“Couch.”
Once again, Robin entered first, disappearing into the shadows to scout the room. Nightwing lugged Red Robin into the room and laid him down on the couch to examine his wound. Batman followed and watched over the back of the couch.
“Bruce.”
Robin spun and threw a knife at the voice.
His senses had been honed to perfection since as long ago as he could remember. From the age of eight the only two members of the League who were capable of sneaking up on him were his blood relations. Now that he was out, Cain was alone on that list. Not even Batman could go unnoticed. Whatever this voice was, it managed to surprise him. But the League taught him to have no weaknesses, so even if his senses failed him, his reflexes could pick up the slack. The best tutors known to man had trained him with strict discipline, instilling perfect form and pinpoint accuracy that he could replicate from a dead sleep in pitch black darkness, all before he had even formed a single thought.
All together, this meant his blade was in the air before he could even parse what was said or what tone it was said with. When he realized that the voice had called Father by his civilian name in a calm greeting, he realized he made a mistake. But luckily, the voice wasn’t injured. Nor even startled.
“Danny.” Bruce greeted back.
This Danny had caught the knife by its handle well in front of his chest with what Robin evaluated to be his off-hand. Bright blue eyes pierced through the darkness straight to his position. They glowed in the darkness despite emitting no light, almost like a cat’s but without a source to reflect. If he had to guess, this unknown was a bit older than Red Robin. A bit taller, too. His deep black hair was unkempt, as if he had just been in a windstorm, sticking up at gravity-defying angles. He wore a dark robe made of fine material, not quite up to League wear standards, but too formal for a nightgown.
Robin cautiously stepped out of the darkness toward the others. Danny’s squinted eyes followed him, head angling slightly as it rotated to track his movement. Then they flicked away to look at Nightwing and squinted further. After a scant two seconds that stretched far too long, he raised his other hand to push his sleeve up, revealing a cheap plastic Batman-themed digital watch with a bright blue rubber strap.
“Been a while, hasn’t it?” He murmured.
He pushed his sleeve further to reveal another, different watch, analog and much more elegant with a black strap most likely made of leather. It looked like something Father would wear to a gala. His eyebrows raised as he looked at it.
“Late, too.”
Batman grunted. Danny dropped his arms to his side, grip loose on the knife. He dipped his head at Damain and looked at Batman.
“My son, Damian.”
Damian tensed at the revealed information.
“He’s sharper than you were.”
“Being raised in an assassin cult will do that to you.”
Damian tensed even more despite the relaxed familiarity, almost teasing tone, that Batman fell into. Danny hummed a deep note and nodded his head toward Nightwing.
“Dick?”
“Nightwing.”
“And the one bleeding all over my couch?”
“Red Robin. Tim. Also my son, not by blood.”
Danny hummed again and lazily tossed the knife into the air toward Robin (who easily caught it, of course) as he walked to the other side of the couch. His movement made no noise whatsoever. Nightwing stepped back cautiously, positioning himself to step between Danny and Red Robin at a moment’s notice.
“What kind of poison?”
“We don’t know.”
He sat down on the edge of the couch to look down at Red Robin but paused as he was leaning down. Instead, he pushed up his sleeve again, and the watches were gone. In their place was some sort of wrist computer that took up half his forearm. The screen was covered in undecipherable text and was surrounded by several buttons marked with hieroglyphics. Robin narrowed his eyes and gripped another knife behind his cape.
“If you throw another blade, I’m confiscating all of them.”
“Stand down, Robin.”
He scowled but let go of the knife. Danny looked to Batman.
“You seem to be getting a call, Bruce. You can take it in the entryway.”
Batman nodded and walked back out the archway, tapping his comm.
“Oracle. We’re safe for now. Red Robin is being treated for poison”
Robin and Nightwing watched him go, turning back after a brief second, only to flinch into defensive stances.
The entire room had changed. It was now lit by a blazing fireplace with a large coffee table between it and the couch where Danny and Red Robin were situated. The table was covered in supplies – glass bottles with colored liquid, mason jars filled with water and fruit and herbs, bowls of nuts, trays of fruit, plates of granola balls, and stacks of labeled first aid kits.
They each stole a look back to Batman, who kept speaking over his comm, not bothered in the slightest.
“I know you can’t. Have the others pull back.”
He flashed them the hand signal for safe.
“I’ll explain when we return. Hour at most.”
They focused back on Danny to see that he had a much larger first aid kit open on the floor next to him and was skimming his fingers across Red Robin’s forehead, brushing his hair away.
“Oh, this one’s cute,” Tim slurred, and he was Tim now, his mask resting on his chest.
Danny snorted and shifted Tim’s uniform away from the slice in his side. He wiped the blood away with some bandages and tilted his head in confusion. He lifted a bloody finger to stare at it. His eyes squinted and he brought the finger up to his nose, where he gave it a sniff. A low growl vibrated through the room, and Robin gripped his knife again. Danny tapped the bloody finger to his tongue, and Robin threw his knife. Or he would have, had Batman not caught his arm.
“Well?” Batman asked.
“It’s a good thing you brought him here,” Danny responded, voice deeper than even Batman’s, “No one should have access to this.”
He raised his other hand and a glowing green post-it note shimmered into existence in his palm. He flicked his wrist toward Nightwing, offering the note to him between two fingers. It was now covered in tiny writing, just as indecipherable as his wrist computer had been.
“Take this into the greenhouse,” he nodded to a door behind Nightwing that had almost certainly not been there before, “Give it to the Gardener; she’ll get you what you need.”
Nightwing hesitantly took the note and looked to Batman, who nodded to him and began walking to one of the chairs next to the couch. He stepped backwards to the door and cracked it open, giving them all one more glance before slipping inside and closing it gently behind him.
Batman slipped his cowl off and grabbed one of the bottled drinks, twisting the cap off and taking a large sip.
“I’ve tried countless times to replicate this flavor, all of them unsuccessful.”
“It’s made with long-extinct fruits, Bruce. I’d be impressed if you managed it.”
Bruce grunted as the door behind him opened and Nightwing stepped in, looking slightly shell-shocked, carrying two small jars and no post-it note.
“Took you long enough,” Danny scolded while gesturing him over.
He handed the jars over and sat down in the chair opposite Bruce, squinting in confusion at his lack of cowl and relaxed snacking. Robin slid into place next to him, still tense and on guard.
Danny unscrewed one of the jars and stuffed a roll of bandages inside before screwing the lid back on. He tossed it to Bruce without looking (who easily caught it, of course) and unscrewed the lid off the other jar.
“Help yourselves, by the way,” he vaguely gestured toward Robin and Nightwing with his head and pointed to the table with his elbow.
Bruce shook his jar and pulled some of the bandages out, sliding them underneath his suit around his wound. Danny scooped a finger’s worth of paste out of his jar and spread it over Red Robin’s wound. He screwed the cap back on and tossed the jar to Bruce just as the other one came flying back to him. They were both easily caught, of course.
Despite the initial hiss of pain, Red Robin’s whole body had been relaxing since the paste had been applied. His eyes slowly opened while Danny was cleaning his hands off and flicked around the room in a quick assessment.
“Who’s this?”
“Danny.” Bruce supplied.
Red Robin looked around the room slowly this time, taking in Bruce’s cowl-less head, the half-drunken jar of colored drink in front of him, the pile of nuts in his hand, Nightwing’s slightly traumatized face and awkward posture, Robin’s irritated scowl and distrustful glare, and he groaned loudly.
“Please tell me this isn’t another Selina situation. He’s like my age.”
“Bold of you to assume my age and gender.” Danny deadpanned.
Red Robin gaped back.
“I met Danny when I was first starting out as Batman.”
“When he was what, eight?” Dick blurted.
“Still with the assumptions,” Danny muttered to himself.
“We thank you for your assistance...Danny.”
Robin was stiff and formal and struggled through the Danny. But that didn’t stop Danny from giving him a slight smile. He looked down at Red Robin then up at Nightwing then finally back at Bruce.
“I like them,” he declared, grabbing a jar of water off the table.
Bruce grunted as Danny unscrewed the lid and handed it to Red Robin.
“Danny has not aged since we first met.”
“Not exactly, but whatever,” Danny mumbled as he tidied up the first aid kit.
Nightwing opened his mouth as if to speak but shook his head and kept quiet. Robin stepped forward to grab a banana off the table with a polite nod to Danny. Red Robin stared down at the jar in his hands. It was full of cold water with a thick slice of pineapple and sprig of mint. After a quick glance to Bruce, he took a sip that turned into a gulp that turned into him emptying the jar in one go and releasing a contented sigh afterwards.
“Do you know anything about the Court of Owls?” Bruce asked.
A tremor shook the house. Bruce tensed in reflex but didn’t leave his chair after a glance to Danny. Nightwing leapt to his feet. Robin slid backwards and drew a blade. Red Robin jolted up and winced through the half-eaten pineapple slice in his mouth. There was a tense silence for several seconds.
“Only that they are not welcome in Gotham,” Danny eventually replied.
After a few more seconds of silence, Danny flicked his eyes to the fireplace mantle as a small object tipped itself over. Nightwing shot his hand out and snatched it out of the air before it could hit the ground. He opened his fist and looked at a miniature gargoyle statue in confusion.
“I may have to become involved,” Danny nodded to Nightwing, who gently replaced the gargoyle on the mantle.
Bruce grunted. Danny tilted his head, staring into the middle distance.
“The occult shop on 4th and Finger between Asher’s Deli and Panadería Golosos,” he recited.
“There is no such shop.” Robin scowled.
“You are correct,” Danny turned to look at him, “And now that you know it’s there, you’ll be able to find it.”
“Emergencies?” Bruce asked.
“Entryway table, same rules.”
The exchange seemed to satisfy Bruce, who stood with a grunt and pulled his cowl back over his head. The others rose with him and followed him toward the entryway, each nodding a thank you to Danny as they went.
They stepped back into the moonlight of the entryway and saw the previously empty table now had four keys laid out on top of it, evenly spaced and covered in a thin layer of dust. When they looked back through the archway they came from, they saw a dark room back to its original form, no Danny to be seen anywhere.
Batman grabbed one of the keys and slipped it into a belt pouch. Robin followed his lead and took a key for himself.
“Father, were you ever going to inform us that you befriended a vampire?”
Batman grunted and cracked the door open to peer out.
“He’s not a vampire,” Red Robin scoffed, grabbing a key for himself.
“I don’t know, creepy house, magic shit, you should’ve seen the gardener,” Nightwing swiped the last key with a flourish.
“He tasted your blood, Drake.”
“He what!?”
“That was after you called him cute,” Nightwing teased.
Red Robin froze with his mouth open, eyes slowly widening.
“I was hoping I just imagined that.”
“Seriously Tim, he’s probably like 300 years old.”
“Tt, I believe Brown would call this robbing the cradle.”
Nightwing and Red Robin turned to look at Robin in silent surprise.
“Shall we leave?” He ignored their incredulous looks and followed Batman out the door.
They scrambled to not be the last out the door, finding themselves in an entirely different part of the city than they entered from.
#dp x dc#dpxdc#my writing#i personally think this works best in a pure batman universe (no JL)#but imagine it how you will#also im ambivalent on how dp fits in#same universe/different dimension/something else#theres clearly some sort of time stuff going on#that could fit into it too idk#probably not ghost king danny#maybe cw apprentice cuz of the time stuff#or maybe theyre just chilling#not totally happy with my writing here but it is what it is

Older Brother Danny Phantom
During the last year that Alfred worked as a secret intelligence officer for England, he was tasked to infiltrate and dismantle a fake ghost hunting branch of the US government. This fake branch that called themselves the Ghost Investigation Ward who was attempting to set up camp on English soil.
During his infiltration using a false identity and credentials, Alfred came across a boy named Phantom. He was the GIW’s “most prized catch”. Alfred’s heart ached as he saw the boy get hauled back to his cell day after day. With each day the boy sported more and more injuries from the GIW’s cruel “experiments”.l (Alfred knew damn well what they were doing to the boy was just short of torture and nothing more.)
Seeing the boy get hurt day in and day out, Alfred was more determined than ever to tear this place apart brick by brick. Soon enough, Alfred found enough evidence to prevent the GIWs from ever setting up camp on English soil ever again. After that, the British military invaded the place and took care of the workers while Alfred worked on freeing Dann, which the GIW’s files informed him was actually a boy named Daniel Fenton. The GIWs completely obliterated his hometown and reduced it to rubble. He had no home to return to and was expecting to just live in the ghost zone for the rest of his life. Alfred wouldn’t let that stand.
He made the rash decision to raise the boy as if he was his own. He later got hired by The Wayne’s after the butler Jarvis’s passing. Danny stayed in the manor with Alfred in the servant quarters. He wasn’t shown to the public and as far as the world knew, Alfred had no family.
Then the tragedy of The Wayne’s occurred on that fateful night. Martha and Thomas Wayne were murdered right before Bruce’s very eyes.
Danny helped Bruce learn to cope with his trauma and searched the Ghost Zone for his parents. (He came up empty handed. Bruce’s parents didn’t have a strong enough drive to become ghosts. Bruce appreciated the gesture none the less.) He and Alfred taught Bruce how to fight. He still went on his training journey all over the world but he knew a tad more before his travels than without his ghosty older brother.
Danny doesn’t really do anything as Phantom in Gotham. He’s done with fighting. The GIW capture convinced him that the only thing that would stop those bastards from hunting him was to destroy the Anti-Ecto acts and to dismantle the organization piece by piece.
Danny went to university and got a double major in computer programming and forensic science.
During the years that Bruce was away training, Danny was cracking down on the GIW and managed to successfully expose and fully dismantle the fake government organization.
Danny refused to premiere in Gotham as “Phantom”. He’s much rather leave his fighting days behind him and instead when Batman first came to the scene, he was the guy in the chair. Helping Bruce through an earpiece and assisting in putting the pieces of a crime together with the batcomputer.
He does help Bruce with the intimidation factor though. A slight spell to make him blend into the shadows a tad more than a normal person would, a small charm to make his movements seem twitchy and inhuman, a tiny incantation that made Bruce’s eyes glow a bright white, small spells to help make Batman less human and more a symbol of fear.
When the first Robin came around, Danny welcomed Dick with open arms as an uncle figure. Casting charms on Robin to let him glide and make chittering sounds that are impossible to make with human vocal cords.
He helps Jason and when the boy comes back, Danny immediately knows that something is off and collects the boy before he gets whisked away by the League of Assassins. He and Alfred teach Jason how to use a firearm at Jason’s request and non lethal rounds become Jason’s preferred weapon.
Danny positively adores Tim. He reminds Danny of himself when he was a teenager. Now in his mid to late 30’s, he recalls those years with a fondness that was definitely affected by rose tinted lenses. He takes him under his wing and teaches the boy about magic and how to integrate it into technology.
Damian instantly attaches himself to Danny the second they first make eye contact. Danny is obviously the most powerful person on the household and respects Damian in a way that surprises the boy. Danny knows Damian’s type well and he, along with Dick, help Damian adjust to the Bats code of vigilantism.
When Danny meets the League, it’s because Klarion summoned the Ghost King. Apparently The Ghost King was a Lord of Order but commonly evil aligned. They all are fearful with what’s to happen besides Batman. His shoulders relax when he hears what’s about to happen and informs the League to let Klarion finish his Ritual.
The League thinks that Batman has gone mad but Batman insists. They follow his orders and watch as Klarion calls the Lord of Infinite Realms to the mortal plane.
Danny appears in full Ghost King regalia. Danny positively radiates power in an absolutely terrifying manner. He notices Klarion and frowns. Looking around, he perks up when he notices Batman and Nightwing next to the various League members.
The League is extremely confused that this all powerful god of a being excitedly smiled and waved towards them. That confusion was nothing compared to a few moments later where the King of the Undead started talking to Batman about what was being made for dinner today. That and Tim finally managed to get the wrist portal to work. Batman is silent and simply silently nodding at the appropriate times but Nightwing is happily chatting back and forth with Danny as the Leagues jaws are on the fuckin floor.
Klarion doesn’t know what to do honestly. He thought the Ghost King was Pariah Dark, not this lanky inhuman looking figure who was sitting crisscross in the summoning circle and waving his hands animatedly to talk with Nightwing.
Klarion yells to The Ghost King to stop talking and to fight these fools. Danny then stops and the temperature drops a solid 30 degrees. He pauses for a few moments and oh so slowly turns around to Klarion. His eyes now blading with green fire, his limbs extending and gaining extra joints, his teeth growing more and more elongated and sharp. He looms over Klarion and tells him to kindly fuck off and to never talk to him, his brother, or his nephew ever again.
Klarion is fucking terrified as Danny just fully shifts into his true form and looms over the Witch Boy. Klarion hastily agrees and leaves in fear of getting fuckin evaporated by this being that is much more powerful than him.
The League is freaking out because “Nephew?!?!” “Brother?!?!” What?! How on earth was the fuckin ghost king related to Batman?
Flash asks Nightwing and Dick just smiles and goes “he was adopted” and that was that. The League sees Danny more often now. Be sometimes pops into the Watchtower to watch the stars, to help out during watch duty, to check in with the batfamily that is in the watchtower. Sure Shazam and John have an adverse reaction to Danny Initially but they eventually just accept that this all powerful ghost lord is just there to talk to his family.

Tiny ideas 2
----
1. Danny, in his new and very human black and white vigilante outfit runs past Penguin who had gotten soaked when a car full of hooligans wearing clown masks ran threw a puddle and splashed him.
Danny, not knowing who this was, tapped him on the shoulder as he ran past, running his intangibility through the man and letting the water fall off him, leaving him nice and dry again.
Penguin makes note to pay both back in very different ways.
----
2. Phantom, having been exorcisized from Amity Park and essentially banished and unable to return, roams around the multiverse looking for something to do.
Upon coming across the creepiest doll hes ever seen in a trash bin, he decides to mess with some local bat themed vigilantes and possesses the doll.
His first victim is Red Robin. Danny in all his creepy doll glory toddles out from behind a chimney as his target is running across the rooftop in his direction. Birdy stopped dead (heh) and stared at the doll.
Danny picked good. The doll was porcelain and cracked, missing one of its glass eyes and moss growing out of the empty socket and around various parts of its body. Its dress was once a lovely blue or green velvet but was now patchy and worn.
He turned the dolls head around at an unnatural angle to fix its gaze on the vigilante, its frozen polite smile adding to its eerieness, and in a moment of impulse said, "I'll see you soon." In the most creepiest little girl voice he could manage, using his ghost powers to make the words seem to drift upon the air towards the hero.
And just like that, doll Danny was gone.
RR almost frantically contacted oracle, "Did you see that?!"
"RR your signal cut out for a few minutes, backup should arrive soon. What happened?"
-----
3. Jason has been getting followed around by this wierd kid who is prime Brucie adoption bait. Kid kept jumping out of nowhere without anyone being able to sense him to ask him the weirdest questions (Damian was so startled that he nearly stabbed the kid on reflex. Not that he'd ever admit it).
The questions where things like, "Do you like books? What are your favorites? Can you cook? Do you like red heads? Do you like dogs? How opposed are you to having supervillian in-laws? What if they give you free experimental weaponry? ....how about some laser cannons and a jet?
Jason ends up getting kidnapped by this kid and dumped in from of this pretty girl as the kid tells her, "I went out and got you a boyfriend who won't try to murder you. Don't screw this up!" Before the kid ran out of the room.
Jazz was mortified.
Jason is still on the floor where he was deposited earlier, "So..." he begins, "I heard you like Jane Austin?"
-----
4. Phantom faked his death in front of the people of Amity Park, just to see how they would react to his passing and kind of in hopes of something changing. He couldn't keep sacrificing everything for these people, after all.
He did not like how the people reacted. Danny had to move away cause if he heard one more person say it was a good thing "that monster" died hes going to hurt someone.
Gotham seemed lovely this time of year and its one place that neither his parents or Vlad would visit. Vlad because if he tried anything at all the worlds greatest detective would ruin him and his parents because they once tried to hunt Batman and Robin only for Batman to terrify them to the point of never returning after they hurt his bird.
Danny got hired at Wayne Tech after submitting a wide range of devices but couldn't do much thanks to still being a minor. Thankfully Mr. Wayne was very generous and kept him housed and fed while he finished his online schooling and graduated early.
(Heavy angst for Danny.)
---
5. Danny hadn't seen Cujo in a while, which wasn't too unusual, but it have been a long time since hed seen his puppy and he was overdue a visit.
Danny pulled out his dog whistle, one normally used for emergencies and that Cujo would never ever ignore.
Only...Cujo didn't come. Now Danny goes on a journey to track down his missing dog. Following clues and trails across different realities, dimensions and universes to find his lost dog.
He did not expect to meet a bird themed vigilante along the way, not for them to insist he help him on his quest. Robin seemed very wary of the Infinite Realms the first time he entered them and had tons of questions. But bird boy was great company and Cujo would love him so Danny could deal.

I do not raspel carrots, the whole reason I never make carrot cake is that i do not voluntarily raspel carrots unless it's with a proper Raspler with a Kurbel instead of a cheese grater board, there is literally not a single worse cooking/baking task than raspeln with a handheld Raspler.
Why aren't you going berry picking with me 😤
hello hi, someone on JO tumblr started an ask game and I come bearing some things to pick from for you
go berry picking with, walk into a Trachtenstore for at least three minutes with, bake carrot cake with, watch a ballet with:
aleksi, robin, jules, me ✨
Okay it took me way too long to understand this game🤦♀️
Let's see. Go berry picking with Robin because you can have a great time with him just talking, I think this would be very fun.
Walking into a Trachtenstore with Jules because I would like to know his opinions and would love to hear him further shit on bavarian traditions.
I would bake a carrot cake with you, but this time it's your turn to raspeln the carrots😄
And going to a ballet with Aleksi because I hope he would get inspired by the music/ orchestra and the emotions, and I think he's very open to other genres and he wouldn't totally suffer through a ballet.
#great now I want carrot cake again#<< i got a whole one for myself I'm sending you a piece#Robin is so precious I want to hear him talk again#<< oh right you were at his thingy thing whatever it was called. the thing where he said he had to be separated from his guitarist#okay but about jules: i don't think he would shit on the Trachten. as far as I understood his posts; his/the band's issue with Oktoberfest#is that it might have started out as a Bavarian tradition but has since been so far removed from its origins that it just has nothing to do#with tradition anymore at all#Oktoberfest is people putting on a Tracht and then getting drunk way past what they know they can handle#and there's all the issues with violence and harassment and the medical issues and so on#but wearing traditional clothing - Trachten - and getting together with other people to celebrate is the tradition at its core#if I put on a dirndl and meet up with friends at one of our places that can very much still count#if we put on Dirndls together and go to one of our towns' festivities that can still very much be a nice traditional get together#Trachten are tradition; the Oktoberfest is not. at least not in a good sense anymore#anyway DANN GEH DOCH MIT ROBIN BEEREN SAMMELN#vielleicht findet ihr in einem gebüsch irgendwo eine reibe mit einer kurbel

04x04 - Home Sweet Home
TW: Poverty, Bailiffs and suicide attempts.
Bob is watching a flat with a pair of binoculars beside a bailiff, Jack Hunt. Beside him is a police van with uniformed officers inside.
Bob is warned to keep an eye out for the main man who is called 'Dennis The Menace'. "With or without Gnasher?" He's warned that 'Dennis' is built like the Kremlin and twice as friendly and that 'Gnasher' will be present and is vicious. The bailiff admits he doesn't know why he still does the job as he's had a lot of sob stories lately involving single mums and the elderly. It's the jobs like this (the criminal type) that give job satisfaction. That is until a PITA councillor arrives. The councillor warns Bob that he doesn't want to see any heavy-handed police work. Bob tells him he's only present because the squatters have ignored several notices to quit and they've been harassing their neighbours. The councillor repeats for them to keep it low profile because they're leaving people homeless at the end of the day. "Is that through choice or circumstance?" Bob asks. The councillor pretends not to understand and walks back to the safety of his car. Bob opens the back of the police van and warns the officers that there is an audience and to mind their P's and Q's.
Jack knocks on the door and tries to deliver the eviction notice. The door is ignored so Jack gives a warning that he'll break it down - only for it to open as soon as the officers gather around him. The dog barking inside sounds nothing like the one who is shown onscreen. Jack warns 'Dennis' that he has to leave now. He tries to refuse so he and his dog are led outside in a struggle with Bob trying to calm the situation. Sort of. "Don't be a Menace, Dennis." With the big man out of the way, more officers enter the flat to get to the other squatters. They're pelted with flour and other kitchen items but manage to get everyone out. June has a large black eye and Pete has a sprained wrist as a result. A journalist arrives and Thomas drives off before she can ask for a quote.
Yorkie and Malcolm are called to a library where a single mother is sitting with her 2 children. The manager says she doesn't mind but the other children's parents have been complaining.
Reg tells the others in the canteen that the squatters from that morning were all involved simply to cause trouble. Their bails were all backed by rich parents with high-class addresses. "It's called cultural slumming." Ken claims they have a point and that everyone has a right to a roof over their head. "Oh Melvin..." Pete sighs wearily.
Malcolm and Yorkie try to gently explain to the single mother in the library that she can't stay there all day with the children. Malcolm initially appears not to have a lot of patience with the situation and asks her where she lives. After some reluctance, she explains they don't have a home because the landlord of the unfit B&B she'd been placed in threw her out. Yorkie suggests she would be a priority if she went to the council and she refuses, claiming she doesn't want anything to do with them anymore because she doesn't want to be a burden. She just wants a place for her kids. Yorkie hands over a housing advice leaflet and Malcolm points out the information about a shelter there. She says she can't go to it because it's 'in Pleydell Street and I don't have the bus fare'. Malcolm starts to protest but is interrupted when the eldest boy starts to pull books from the shelves and she shouts at him. He simply sighs and puts a pound for the bus fare into her hand.
Bob and Tom are amused at the squatters being bollocked by posh parents called in to the station. Tom claims the kids think they're Karl Marx and their parents behave "like Mrs T!"
A social worker shouts over to Christine from the front desk to report that one of her clients has gone missing. She's worried and Taffy really isn't getting her urgency. It's the woman from the library and her children, Marie, Wayne and Sammy Tucker. She's not concerned about the children's welfare with their mother as Christine first thinks but for the mother herself. She thinks she's suicidal.
Yorkie and Malcolm are called to the house of Councillor Thomas from earlier as neighbours have reported a break-in. They find the back door open and the Tucker Family making their way up the stairs with their suitcases. Before they can get to them, Marie barricades them in the bathroom door. The front door goes and Councillor Thomas wants to know what's going on...
Yorkie tries to get through to Marie but she won't answer him at first. Christine drives the Social Worker, Sonja, over to help. Sonja, explains Marie had been in the B&B with the children for approximately a year after leaving her abusive alcoholic husband. She blamed herself because she thought she changed him into the monster he became. She had attempted suicide previously and the children are on the at-risk register because of their father. The suicide attempt spurred her into action and once out of hospital she left him.
Thomas isn't exactly helpful as he blames the police for her being in his house. Yorkie suggests breaking the door but Thomas won't allow them to cause damage to his home and suggests they talk her out.
Sonja explains to Christine that the Government has slapped restrictions on councils to stop them from spending what they need to improve their housing stock be it through repairs or building more. They also allow emergency housing B and B's to charge what they want and the councils have to pay the fees by law which forces the social workers and police officers to have to try and put plasters over the wounds without being able to help properly in real terms.
Thomas drinks heavily with Malcolm, politely, suggesting that he attempt to keep a clear head in the situation. Thomas claims he'll do whatever he likes in his home leading to Yorkie and Malcolm exchanging a frustrated look and eyeroll.
"Got a lot on my plate...." he mutters under his breath, turning to look out the window as Christine and Sonja arrive.
Sonja suggests that she speak to Marie first, explaining that she has very little self-value because she blames herself for the failed marriage and sees everything that happens to her as payback. Christine spots Thomas' address on the leaflet that Yorkie and Malcolm gave Marie earlier which explains how she arrived. Yorkie and Malcolm thankfully don't mention the bus fare.
Why on earth would the emergency housing team add a councillor's private address on their emergency housing leaflet? Especially as prominently as it is and marked as an emergency contact. They clearly didn't think it through and he's not exactly a liberal sympathetic understanding councillor who would go out of his way to help, he's a known PITA to Bob and the others. It's a surprise only one family turned up and caused this sort of situation(!)
Sonja goes up to the bathroom and tries to talk to Marie. Wayne can be heard telling his mummy that it's the nice lady who comes to see them. Marie finally speaks and tells Sonja that she hasn't got a home and she doesn't want to speak to her at that moment because talking to her doesn't change anything. She then throws what is suspected to be a vase at the door.
Thomas runs up the stairs at the noise and shouts that the door should be broken down to get her out. Sonja tries to calm the situation and suggests giving her time to come by herself. Thomas shouts that he wants her out and tries to force Yorkie forward to break down the door. Christine raises her voice and gets them all to shut up. She suggests that Malcolm take Thomas downstairs and make him a strong coffee and everyone else a cup of tea.
When Christine offers Marie a drink, Marie calls through that she's sorry about the councillor's pot and that she'll pay him back for it. She just wanted to speak to him about her housing emergency after getting his name and address from the leaflet. She then suggested when she arrived that she thought he wouldn't mind if they sat in the warm kitchen rather than outside. (Although shown in July it would have been filmed approx late March/early April). Thomas calms and goes downstairs with Malcolm.
Christine continues talking with Marie. She admits she's a bit useless around the house when Marie remarks on the Thomas' matching towels. Marie explains in the B&B 15 people had to share the bathroom with a broken flush, broken seat, and no toilet paper. The bathroom is roughly the size of what her entire room was for her and the children. However, it was covered in mould with broken floorboards and damage everywhere with cockroaches crawling all over. Christine tries to cheer her up but Marie tells her she wants to tell her what it was really like. She goes on to explain that she'd sometimes have to beg if her children were hungry as the social services benefits only went so far on necessities. She'd lock the door and not leave until the morning because a girl had been raped on her corridor and there were druggies needles all over.
She complained about her room after finding her eldest holding a used needle. The manager called her unreasonable and threw them out. She worries that the kids are like her husband because they act out because they're bored stuck inside one room all day with nothing to keep them entertained. She claims she's given them no life and that they'll be better off without her. She asks the children if they forgive her and Christine sends Yorkie down to get Thomas. Christine tried to keep her talking and orders her two PC's to break the door down.
They force their way in to find Marie has taken an overdose of two bottles of mild antidepressants found in the bathroom. Wayne tells them that Mummy's gone to sleep. Christine hurries to call 999 whilst Malcolm removes the children and keeps them entertained in a bedroom. Yorkie tries to perform CPR whilst Sonja keeps urging him to keep going. We're entering Yorkie's Kick The Puppy era good and proper.
Thomas tells Christine that he went into politics to try and help people. Christine admits that's why she went into policing. Thomas says he's sacrificed a lot for his ideals. "It's what politics is all about. Sacrifice. Family, even my marriage." He sighs and says it's not been worth it as he's ended up just running in circles and failing people anyway. He then tries to distract the children by handing over a cuddly toy to the youngest, telling Malcolm his own children went with his wife. Sonja enters the bedroom to be with to the children, shaking her head at the two officers and Councillor. "I'm sorry it's...."
"... Too late." Finishes a visibly upset and frustrated Malcolm" as sirens near and Yorkie is seen fruitlessly trying to keep the CPR going.

Cain and Abel Wept 2/?
Prev | Next
When Danny’s parents had recommended they hide out in Gotham for a while, the protest had been on the tip of his tongue. Gotham was Batman’s territory. Danny didn’t want to risk it.
“Batman doesn’t allow metas,” Danny had said instead of what he should’ve.
“But honey, you won’t be using your powers. Besides, there’s so much ambient ectoplasm that it would be hard for the GIW to hunt you down even if you accidentally use your powers for a short period,” his mother explained.
“Yeah, Dann-o, you need a place with rich ectoplasm, and Gotham city has the second highest amount of it aside from Amity.”
“But Batman is part of the Justice League. If they ignored us before, it’s because they’re fine with what the government is doing.”
Both his parents looked at each other, “We know, sweetie, but it’ll only be for a few weeks. Just enough time for you to recharge.”
For use to recharge, went unsaid.
So, Danny had given in.
Seeing his birth father in his full Batman suit, he regretted not telling his parents the truth. All of this could’ve been avoided if Danny hadn’t been a coward.
The only reason they could be here was that they knew of Danny’s half-ghost status and were going to hand him over to the proper authorities. His slow heartbeat almost reached an average person’s level out of fear.
Danny watched silently as his little family prepared to fight the Bat clan. All to defend him.
Behind Batman’s shadow, a small figure dressed in muted reds, greens, and yellows came out. Damian.
Danny felt the stab wound that had long since healed and disappeared throb on his back.
“Jack, you take Nightwing and Red Hood from afar with the ectoblasters. I’ll take on Batman and Black Bat. Kids, you guys support us in the GAV however you can. Do not leave this vehicle, understood?”
Danny studied all their determined faces. His mom could’ve been back at Fenton Works pouring over data and writing papers. His dad could’ve been inventing new ghost gadgets and fishing for ghosts through the ghost portal while eating fudge. Jazz should’ve been in college.
They gave up their lives for a boy who wasn’t related to them by blood.
Danny took the keys to the GAV and phased through it. He locked his family in and ignored their cries of alarm.
He refused to put them in further danger.
Danny walked up to Batman and Robin, his shoulder straight, “I surrender but leave my family out of this. Call the GIW and any other hunter you need to, and I’ll go quietly.”
Behind him, Danny heard his family scream out in outrage and horror at his words. He ignored them. Looking at Batman straight in his white-out eyes, Danny put his hands up so he could be led away.
____
Bruce had no idea what he would find when he came for his previously unknown son. Whatever it was, this wasn’t it.
Danyal was holding his hands out as if ready for them to be handcuffed, and the Fentons were kicking and screaming in the RV (at least, Bruce was pretty sure it was an RV).
He looked around the scene and figured that having his whole family suited up and ambushing the small family was probably not a good idea. He was better than this. Why hadn’t he noticed earlier that it was a bad idea?
He should’ve just come with Damian and maybe knocked on their door instead of scaring the shit out of them.
They had been ready to leave, he justified it to himself.
You could’ve put a tracker on the vehicle, the logical part of his mind told him.
Bruce didn’t voice any of this or let it show on his face.
“Danyal,” the boy flinched.
“It’s Danny,” he said with anger in his voice.
“Danny, we didn’t come here to fight or…arrest you.” Bruce would later figure out why Danny thought that “We just want to talk.”
Danny looked at him in disbelief before eying Damian and the rest of the family. Everyone else started fidgeting, looking uncomfortable. Bruce knew they were coming to the same conclusion Bruce had.
They had been too hasty and let their emotions rule them.
“So, you’re not here to arrest me.”
“No, why would you think that?”
Danny’s face shut down of any emotion.
“No reason,” the boy answered.
“If this is about your meta powers, I know it seems like I hate metas, but I don’t. I don’t want them here because they would be in danger from my rogues.”
Danny stayed silent. He looked back at the Fentons; they were still trying to get out of the vehicle while spewing threats at Batman and his family.
Danny did a hand signal, and they calmed down a little though they were still tense and finding ways to get out.
Danny sighed.
“Akhi, I’m sorry.”
Danny froze; it looked as if he wasn’t breathing.
“I’m so, so sorry. I should’ve come with you. I shouldn’t have…I’m a horrible brother and a worse person.”
“Dami,” Danny whispered.
Damian started crying. Big fat tears fell from his cheeks (cheeks that still held baby fat to them). Bruce watched in horror as his youngest fell to his knees. Damian had always been the least emotional of all his children, so when he broke down crying, almost none of them knew what to do.
Danny stepped forward before stopping, “Oh, Dami.”
Danny didn’t make any other move. A part of him wanted to comfort his younger brother as he used, but he still remembered the feel of cold metal going through his back. He still remembered the feeling of betrayal as his baby brother left him a growing pool of his blood.
So, he did nothing. Danny stood there as his younger brother held himself and cried out his regret.
Danny couldn’t find it in himself to forgive his younger brother.
He knew Damian had been brainwashed (he had been six!), but Danny had been a child, too. He had sacrificed so much for Damian, and his brother betrayed him. It was hard to forgive even when, logically, he knew it wasn’t Damian’s fault.
(It was Talia’s, Ra’s; not Damian’s)
But emotions weren’t logical, now, were they?
Emotions are useless, Ra’s’ voice rang through Danny’s head.
Shut up.
“What now,” Danny asked as Damian calmed down.
Batman looked at him and then at his family behind them.
“Now, we talk.”

Kurzweilig - Das Kurzfilmfestival bei KIKA
Paolos Glück
Knetanimation, my beloved <3
Dieses Konzept ist so wholesome
Planet Robin
Lauras Stern, aber mit einem Planeten und kurz vor der Scheidung stehenden Eltern
Immer noch Lauras Stern, aber weitaus düsterer
WER SCHNEIDET HIER ZWIEBELN?
Laika & Nemo
