Any and all the questions you wanna answer honestly!! I just like hearing my friens talk abt their stuff :3
heheee okayyy
5. What are some of your OCs biggest fears?
Emily: Death, jumpscares, the dark, balls thrown at her face, losing the people she cares about Warf: Hurting people he loves/cares about, not being in control of Armada, spiders, being hunted by the people who once knew him Levi: Not being good enough for both Emily or Warf, procrastinating on art/art commissions, losing their bugs (including Rain), heavily damaging their wings Dawn: Losing her younger brother, making Warf or Maple cry, forgetting everything she'd known her whole life, Maple's previous husband
7. What are your favorite relationships between your OCs? (romantic or platonic!)
Tbh...Emily, Levi, and Warf's polyamorous relationship..I want a nice slice of life type of chill when it comes to a group of people, how their form of love within one another proves to just be more than romantic love; it's sensual love, emotional love, vocal love, etc....it could be silence as they lay against each other..and it will hit me just as hard as when they would kiss and cuddle and all other stuff. It's a love I've always wanted in life...
8. Do you have any OC family trees?
Yes!! I drew some up rn!!
Velo and Amber Kinotrix are the sole family to Emily
Fischer and Celine Allwood are Levi's parents, alongside their Aunt (on Celine's side) and their cousin Elidi (he/him lesbian)
I actually made Elidi in Miitopia so I ended up liking him a lot sooo he's canon yahoo
Maple (through the inanimate creation ritual) made a pair of inanimate twins, Dusk and Dawn, first and foremost..but after Dusk's immediate disappearance (few years later), Maple made another inanimate child, Warf!
9. Favorite OC?
ehee I like Armadaaa
26. What are your favorite books?
Anything that's like super cool pop-up books...ESPECIALLY if made by Robert Sabuda..he's my inspiration...
27. What are your favorite movies?
The Lego Movie, Mitchells VS The Machines, The Thief and The Cobbler, Matilda (original movie), Beauty and the Beast (original disney animated version), The Super Mario Bros Movie..idk what else
28. Favorite songs at the moment?
A few!!
Please Don't Put Me Away by Pleasantries
realife by nelward ft hannahbolector
Digital Silence by Peter McPoland
4ff by NANORAY
and Classic Scrat Dies and Goes to Undertale by my friend @quesar42
29. What was your first fandom you were in? Did you make any art/fanfic for it?
The Lego Movie orrrr FNAF...and yes I did but ermm here's the art
Like I was a SICK freak for fnaf as a kid tho..
tyy for the questionnnss..I got no more to answerrr wahhh

Working with children and children's media as a job is so good for reclaiming a sense of wonder. Like, I'll put together a book display about dinosaurs and realize that this actually is so cool. Dinosaurs are awesome and it's insane that these giant creatures walk the same earth as us. I chose a pop up board book (Cookie Count by Robert Sabuda) for my K-1st grade storytime last week and got super worried that they'd think it's too babyish, but they got really into it and wanted me to stay on pages longer so they could pick out details in the 3D illustrations. Like, yes, that book really was a work of art and the illustrations really were gorgeous!! I pass a cement mixer on the road and think about the kids who leave with armfuls of books about trucks and construction sites

WEEK1.3 - SDL
Thematic A3 Board
3 Case Studies
Case Study 1: "Te Reo Māori Popup Book" by Studio Akin (New Zealand)
Project Description: Studio Akin designed an interactive popup book to teach the Māori language to young children through colourful illustrations and engaging visual elements (Wenley 2020). Detailed popup designs develop on every page, bringing out the legends and vocabularies of the Māori, hence fusing traditional stories with modern techniques of illustration as demonstrated below
This project combines detailed illustrations of landscapes in New Zealand with dynamic typography and rich photography to really come alive across the learning environment. Studio Akin's approach dovetails with my interest in cultural narratives and educational design. This project closely aligns with my skills in illustration and typography, as it shows the preservation of indigenous languages and cultures through visual storytelling.

Case Study 2: "Popup New York" by Robert Sabuda
Project Description: "Popup New York" by renowned paper engineer Robert Sabuda captures New York City's iconic landmarks in detailed popup spreads. Each page transforms into miniature architectural wonders—from the Statue of Liberty to Times Square, as demonstrated in the pop-up picture shown below.
Sabuda has combined exact paper engineering with detailed illustration and effective typography (Kane, 2020). His work creates a great visual experience that is not only informative but also full of energy, reflecting a City's vibe. This case study highlights the potential of popup books to convey complex urban environments, aligning with my interest in creating visually captivating and structurally intricate designs.

Case Study 3: "Enchanted Forest: An Inky Quest & Colouring Book" by Johanna Basford
Project Description: "Enchanted Forest" by Johanna Basford is a popup book where colouring book sensibilities blend with intricate popup features. Readers of any age are taken on a journey through this enchanted forest, where there are hidden creatures and interactive features to color in, all illustrated on every spread, as demonstrated in the picture shown below.
Intricate hand-drawn illustrations have been given a place by Basford, matched with engaging typography to provide a tangible and immersive experience for the reader (Fletcher, 2020). Her work is marked with intense detail and a whimsical attitude. This project aligns with my interest in detailed illustration and typography, which can be used to create an engaging and personal reader experience.

Always learning something new at The Grolier Club. Currently there are two great exhibits going: “Pattern and Flow - A Golden Age of American Decorated Paper, 1960s-2000s” and “Animated Advertising - 200 Years of premiums, promos and pop-ups”. The first exhibit was not only gorgeous but really brought a whole genre of art and the intense skill needed to create it to life. The second exhibit was in my advertising background wheelhouse. Loved seeing the historical pieces but also, since I have collected many a Robert Sabuda pop-up book, the illustrated pieces. Both well worth the view. .... #UnderGlassCollection #ShoeDaydreams #CuratedCloset #TheClosedDoorCollection #SophisticatedPrecious #grolierclub #advertising #popups #marketing #literary #papermarbling #art #paperlegacyproject @grolierclub https://www.instagram.com/p/CnuXhdbuBWz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I've had this Robert Sabuda dinosaur pop-up book since I was 4-6 years old.
For a decent chunk of my childhood I believed that this was the Boston Tea Party. I don't know why or what led me to believe this, but I was very disappointed when I learned the truth.

Hanukkah Greetings!
Hanukkah began last night, launching eight nights and days of celebration during this Festival of Lights. In the festive spirit, we present the pop-up book Chanukah Lights (using an alternative spelling), published by Candlewick Press in 2011, with a text by Michael J. Rosen, illustration and paper engineering by Robert Sabuda, and additional design work by Simon Arizpe and Shelby Arnold.
The book presents “eights scenes that, like the flame of the shamash candle, illuminate places and times where Jews have celebrated” the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem and the miracle of the lamp therein: the Temple in Jerusalem; a desert encampment; the hold of a refugee ship; Jewish settlements around the world; a shtetl in the shadow of imperial Russia; an early 20th-century American tenement; an Israeli kibbutz; “and a spectacular final scene in which city skyscrapers become menorahs that call upon the stars to be their flames. In each window into history, the Chanukah lights reflect freedom’s promise, hope rekindled amid oppression, and the unflagging faith mirrored in the eyes of all who gather for this Festival of Lights.”
To get the full effect, view this video of Chanukah Lights.
View our previous Hanukkah posts.
We wish you a bright, festive, and very Happy Hanukkah!
PS: In the spring semester, look out for our next major exhibition, “The Pop-up Books of Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart.”

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: A Pop-up Adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Original Tale by Robert Sabuda
Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This book is not inly absolutely gorgeous in their illustrations and pop-up designs, but also highly interactive in how it tells the story of Alice. It's so much fun to read and also get to see the Wonderland of Robert Sabuda. It is, of course, short but still worth to have and read.

- la bande dessinée “Alice embrasse la lune” de l’illustrateur allemand Atak parue chez Amok en 2001 ;
- les papiers découpés colorés d’Agnese Baruzzi pour les éditions White Star Kids en 2015 ;
- tout de blanc vêtues, d’autres découpes de papier par Sébastien Orsini pour Lirabelle en 2015, à voir en vrai dans les rayons du Centre de l’illustration ;
