"Toujours ramener la vie à sa base, à ses nécessités premières : la faim, la soif, la poésie, l’attention au monde et aux gens. Il est possible que le monde moderne soit une sorte d’entreprise anonyme de destruction de nos forces vitales sous le prétexte de les exalter. Il détruit notre capacité à être attentif, rêveur, lent, amoureux, notre capacité à faire des gestes gratuits, des gestes que nous ne comprenons pas. Il est possible que ce monde moderne, que nous avons fait surgir et qui nous échappe de plus en plus, soit une sorte de machine de guerre impavide. Les livres, la poésie, certaines musiques peuvent nous ramener à nous-mêmes, nous redonner des forces pour lutter contre cette forme d’éparpillement. La méditation, la simplicité, la vie ordinaire : voilà qui donne des forces pour résister. Le grand mot est celui-là : résister. "
