GPVegas Part 4 & Wallpapers

Back to Part 3

Part 4 of my GP Vegas recap began years ago, with the original Germ token from Mirrodin Besieged.  Then I found that artists made their own germ tokens, and I began to collect those.  

More recently I got to thinking where Germs would live.  Perhaps in a bog?

That was my first custom Germ token, from GP Denver.  The next two tried to answer what Germs might grow up or evolve into creatures featured on Magic cards?

Splinterfright was from GP Vegas, along with the answer to the most recent question: what if a Germ tried to emulate the actions of Planeswalkers?

i know i've said it before but a card shop's promo poster of morphling is the reason i got into magic at all. i was unfortunate enough to come into the game during urza being standard, though, so every deck was blue and morphling was $50/ea if you were lucky. i think my first rkpost card was bog initiate tbh, took me that long

GPVegas Part 3

Back to Part 2

Let’s keep going!  My last post had some normal-awesome signatures.  How about some extra-awesome sigs?  At GP Tacoma I picked up a book featuring the original artists of Magic (wish I had known about that Kickstarter!).  It’s beautiful, but I’m all about inclusiveness so I’ve been asking other artists to sign it as well:

From top to bottom we have Steve Argyle, Greg Staples, Eric Deschamps, Howard Lyon, Kirsten Zirngibl, and RK Post.  Howard Lyon signed last year, but he did a “Sign in Blood” embellishment in Vegas.

How about some shadow signatures?

Thrilled to have a set of Argyle Ponders join my signed Tedin and Scott Ponders.

Also, I’m very happy to finally get some Lilianas.  My Legacy “The Gate” deck will still be horrible, but it’ll get better with some planeswalker action.

Lastly, we all know that Killing Wave is Steve’s most popular and powerful card, played in every format except where it’s banned for breaking the meta.  Tune in to the next update to find out why, though you may already have a germ of an idea.

Onwards to Part 4

So today was gp Amsterdam, which was very fun thank you for asking. I scoured for some singles went into Amsterdam, great stuff. Some of you may know i like D.va, a lot (no seriously, don't go through my likes it's just 1400+ D.va drawings). And some of you may happen to know I collect D.va art (if you're having trouble coming up with an ascension favor you know what to do Steve ;) ). But today was a little different. What you see here is a playmat i commissioned @postrk to draw for me (which he was kind enough to do). The amount of detail is simply stunning, i made sure to take a close up picture as well so you can see the amount of lines drawn, it's astounising. I simply love everything about this playmat. The pose she is in, her facial expression, the detail that went into the environment, the fact rk post still managed to get the mech into the picture and her hair is gorgeous as well. From what i've been told this took 1,5 days to complete and was all done with the sharpy i included (which i was told i could have, so who am i to refuse that offer). Rk is such a perfectionist and it really shows, he told me he flipped the logo upside down but caught it before he drew it on. After purchasing this beauty i went and bought a tube to save it in. Which, of course, was to small. This was done on a high quality mat with thicker rubber so it takes up some more space. I was gifted the death and taxes sleeve for the mat where it fits in perfectly (and has some pretty cool art as well). Finally i found this foil marchesa of the black rose. I thought she would be a pretty cool commander so i snagged her up and asked rk post to alter a D.va on it (at that point he told me hed probably get D.va filled nightmares with all the requests i'd given him). I think it turned out great and i'm happy to have a personalized commander for my deck. I think all in all i lingered at his stand for about two hours and the entire time he was so kind to my girlfriend and me. I feel kinda guiltt for hogging ao much of his attention but i had a blast hearing all his stories (and he has a lot of great ones as well! Speak to him when you find him at a local gp, which he will be because this man is frickin everywhere). P.s. if you're going to dreamhack and you cosplay D.va i prepaid some D.va tokens for you to snag free of charge. Just felt like i needed to mention that.

i met rkpost at a very pivotal moment in my life, and i can definitely cite the encounter as having influenced my healing process. he's always been deeply influential, one of my absolute art idols, but the encounter left me with the final nudge i needed to really start trying to push my art and develop it. cultivate it. not even just meeting him finally--I'd wanted to meet him since my teen years--but in the exact era in my life, i needed to hear the things he told me, and having him be the one whose words they were... gosh I'm a sap, it was incredible. honestly everyone i met that day at the grand prix left an impact on me. christopher rush, clint cearley, dan scott... each of them was truly incredible to meet. that... that was probably one of the most important days of my life
