hubris and ambition were chungha’s fatal flaw. it’s her own pride that could get in the way of her succeeding. she never seemed to succeed until she was at her lowest. and since recent developments, she decided that strolling through this experience with her head held too high for her own good wouldn’t have helped her. now it seems like she can’t get her confidence back.

she watches the choreography on her phone for the hundredth time. it was great. it was going to be perfect for the evaluation but it wasn’t....perfect. it needed to be tweaked. that’s what her brain was telling her. something about it was off and it was bothering her. but a part of her was also telling her that she was being too ambitious again. it would never work out. it would be a failure.

she rubbed her eyes. it was frustrating.

“hey eunji?” she called out, looking at the other. “can you watch this choreography video? it’s from a class i took years ago. wanted to do this as my evaluation. can you tell me what you think of it?”

as soon as she was back on south korean soil she felt an immediate sense of relief, she had liked both iceland and london but nothing was like home. it wasn't long until she was back at sphere, first she had dropped by the dorm to drop of her things but after that she had gone to the sphere building to see the other girls. smiling widely she wondered how they all were doing if everything was working out.

in her hand she held a bag, a bag of gifts that she had bought while in iceland that she wanted to give to the girls ( yes even the new ones that she hadn't gotten around to meet properly ).

the first person she saw at sphere was eunji and she smiled widely and with excited steps she approached the female, "eunji," she muses happily once she's caught up with the female. she hadn't been gone for long but she felt like it had been such a long time since she had seen the female, or any other trainees ( with the exception of luda and minhee of course ), "are you busy?"

“Eunji!” the older girl cried out as bouncing around in the swimming pool with her bikini clinging to her wet body as waving around trying to get the other attention, wanting her to join her in the pool so they can have some quality fun time. It’s been a while since those two actually did anything together due to her always being busy with either heartz things or spop or just sleeping in-between. Minhee is thankful she got some time at this function to spend time with actual friends and make some new ones too using her networking skills to good use. “Get your bum in here! It’s really nice especially on this hot summer day~ it will cool you off!” she shouted making a complete fool herself splashing around like a fish just get the other attention to join her maybe Eunji was not coming in on purpose just to see how ridiculous she could make her unnie look as she wouldn’t put that past her.

˟ ▀   the great debate .

this month’s evaluation is one of annoyance.  

sua thought that she already had some vague semblance of an idea for what she wanted to perform solo wise this month until sphere upended her plans and threw her to the streets.  she can’t say that she’s all that surprised, though  -  it seems they really have a knack for it.  but preparing a solo song that’s focused simply on her vocals makes her realize that they already know what they’re looking for this month.  and this month, it won’t be her.

it seems she isn’t the only one struggling with a shifting song choice, though.  eunji has been looking torn at her phone for the past ten minutes, so sua knows something is up.  unlike her, eunji actually cares about debut, so the worry on her face is evident.  waving her hand to get the younger trainee’s attention, she stares at her blankly.  “ give it up.  which songs are you torn between?  it’s written all over your face, you know.”

Spica was coming to their idol cafe and jongsuk had to admit, he was a bit excited at the prospect of an established girl group (nothing on the rookie groups), but in his eyes, Spica was almost the ultimate girl group. They could all sing, they could all dance and they were all smoking hot that even his bisexual ass could thirst over them. Granted however that he wasn’t the only host, he decided to approach his lovely cohost and ask her what her opinion was on the group. A varied concept girl group had to peak her interest, right? 

So, while they were getting ready, he tried not to look as trashy as he usually did when he walked over to eunji. “So, what do you think of Spica?” he asked, looking over her makeup before reaching over for a brush to assist a bit. “Wouldn’t you love to have a concept like theirs or do you see something more interesting in your future?” he asked, powdering her face with a grin. He was a makeup guru, so he knew how to make one self shine on the camera.

it seemed that every year the companies would try to put something together to make the summer a little bit more enjoyable, instead of feeling as thought they were overheating in the training buildings of their respective companies. part of gahyeon almost felt upset that she got into heartz when she did, when the evaluation seemed like a lot of fun for everyone who was dancing and singing onstage. gahyeon enjoyed dancing around to the other evaluations, but couldn’t help but wish the heartz girls were able to take part as well. wouldn’t it have been fun to do, as well as see if they could rile up a crowd ? show how they performed in front of a real audience ?

it didn’t matter in the end, after all the trainers did what they wanted in the end – and gahyeon had fun anyway. after all, she’d hardly expected them to give the trainees a pool party, or even let the heartz girls participate at all, so she was grateful for the opportunity nonetheless. plus, it seemed like it was a good relaxer after the evaluation for all the heartz girls.

although gahyeon had struggled with things going on in her personal life, she hadn’t let it come between her and practice – but although she threw herself into practice, she hadn’t really gotten to know a lot of the girls involved in the project which was … probably not too smart, considering they were the girls she’d potentially debut with. but just because she didn’t in the beginning, didn’t mean she couldn’t try making connections now. although the crowd of trainees was surprisingly thick ( gahyeon keeps forgetting just how many trainees are under samsung ), gahyeon manages to spot a familiar heartz face among the crowd and hurries over to one of the drink stands. as she orders her own, gahyeon turns to the other girl and considers even speaking for a moment before she finally pipes up.

“ eunji, right ? ” she asks – as if they haven’t been practicing together for a good month now. ��� sorry i – of course i know who you are. i’ve just … i know i haven’t gotten much of chance to really get to know anyone that well … and i’m really sorry about it. ” she says, pursing her lips. “ it’s just … a habit of mine to throw myself into practice, you know ? but i figure now that evaluations for the month are over and we have a few hours to … relax … ” she trails off, puckers her lips in through before popping her lips and sighs. “ i’m sorry i’m probably being weird. we’ve been practicing together for a month and i feel like i forgot how to talk to people starting july 1st … ” she sighs. “ this was exciting though – everything that was set up … i’m kinda sad we weren’t able to perform in front of everyone … ” gahyeon rambles, if only to say anything.

This time it was her who went to Eunji to ask for assistance in regards to that month’s solo. She was a little disappointed when she realized that she barely had any lines during their group performance. In fact, if she didn’t pride herself to be a dancer first than a singer, it would have broken her heart completely. Not that there wasn’t plenty of that happening to her recently. 

Despite this, she smiles at Eunji as she prepares her audio by the speakers. “Any feedback would be great. I know I’m not that great in vocals, I’m struggling with that mostly.” Giving the other trainee a disclosure right then, hoping that Eunji would focus on that more since Chaeyeon is more or less confident with the dancing part. “Alright, I’ll start.”

The first time the S-Pop auditions had rolled around, Moonbok hadn’t been able to participate for a variety of reasons. One being that he’d just been signed to Sphere and was still trying to get his head around everything to do with being a trainee, including balancing his schooling with training. There was also the fact that after the debacles that had been seasons four and five of the MGAs for him, Moonbok had been a little reluctant to approach anything television related. He’d already humiliated his family twice, he’d no wish to do so again.

But eight months is a long time and he’s grown in confidence and self-awareness since then. So when the next round of auditions had been announced, Moonbok had gleefully put his name forward. Having seen the fun Eunji and Minhee had seemed to have on their shows, he at least wants to try and garner a spot as an MC.

Plus being able to fanboy over his favourite artists and chatter about them non-stop without being yelled at by his parents, roommate or friends to give it a rest? 

Perfection.

While he knows he hasn’t some of the qualities Samsung is looking for, as far as he’s concerned, it’s worth a shot. What he lacks in experience in hosting and variety he can make up for in natural charisma and his ability to improvise on the fly. Plus his English is pretty good, thanks to his parents having sent him to a high school that specialized in teaching foreign languages. (Sometimes Moonbok can’t help but wonder if they actually ever wanted him to become a doctor at all.) Sure he has an accent, but (he thinks) his English is still pretty easy to understand and that hopefully it and his natural charms will make up for what he lacks.

So while Moonbok accepts that he has a small chance of getting selected to be an MC, it’s still a chance. And he’s going to seize it with both hands.

Having spent the first two weeks of the month binge-watching IQS and Idol Café (and not just because he wanted to watch his girlfriend either.), Moonbok approaches his given script with a fairly good idea of what he wants to show off in particular during his audition. Finding a partner hadn’t been too hard, he’d partnered up with one of the other trainees he’d made friends with during Sphere’s composing classes. Having paired up frequently with the other male during said classes, Moonbok had initially asked his friend to partner up with him for the S-Pop auditions as a joke, only to be taken aback (but still delighted) by his friend’s immediate and enthusiastic agreement. Apparently, hosting something had always been a dream of the other male’s.

If that wasn’t even more motivation for Moonbok to make sure the audition went as flawlessly as possible, he wasn’t sure what could be.

On the day of the audition, Moonbok and his friend are watching an episode of Idol Café on Moonbok’s phone (albeit on silent mode) as they wait to be called into the audition room, quietly discussing some of finer points of what the hosts do during the show and how they’re incorporating their own personalities into their presenting. Moonbok’s friend begins to make a point about how Jongsuk carries himself when their names are suddenly called out. Hurriedly shutting off his phone and pocketing it, Moonbok and his friend exchange grins and make their way into the audition room and position themselves in front of the judges.

A quick bow and greeting before their given their cue and Moonbok looks directly into the camera with his characteristic grin.

“Hello everyone! Welcome to today’s episode of Idol Café!” he introduces in English, giving the camera a quick customary bow. “I’m Jang Moonbok, one of your hosts for today!” He steps aside slightly and gestures to his friend, who introduces himself in Korean, which gives Moonbok his cue to lapse back into Korean also.

“Today, we’ll be making a special drink for our guests and as well as getting the lowdown on how they spend their free time and what their favourite cafe orders are when they’re out and about!” Moonbok makes a grand sweeping gesture in the direction of their imaginary guests. “Everyone, give it up for NIGHT5!”

As the audition continues, Moonbok and his friend interview their ‘guests’ asking them about their favourite drinks and snacks when they go to their cafe and showing off their ‘high-energy, Go-Go coffee’ (which Moonbok is grateful does not actually exist, for various reasons.) During their interview, he switches back to English a few times to question his ‘guest’ whose first language is Englsih, with his friend translating.

When the audition comes to an end, Moonbok and his friend bow once more, giving cheerful sign-offs in both English and Korean before they’re dismissed. Leaving the room, they both happily chatter about how they feel their audition went and what they could improve on for the future.

Because even if they mightn’t have succeeded this time, who’s to say there won’t be a chance to do something like this again later on?

with eunji’s encouragement and advice, chungha knew what she had to do. it wasn’t much but it was enough to push herself to make the dance that much more eye catching. more exaggerated point movements to make her interpretations clear. eunji always had good faith in her. it made her feel good.

june was a good month. it was not a month to get in her head.

it was a song that she personally really liked. any time she listened to it she felt like a bad bitch. it was from a workshop that she attended last year when she was dipping her toes back into the line of work again. after flopping out of kt, she had taken a break. she was definitely a little rusty when she returned to dancing regularly. (and training regularly kicked her ass too).

it wasn’t something overly ambitious. it wasn’t something below her calibre. or at least, she thought so. it was the perfect song to show that she knew how to dance, knew to have fun when dancing and knew how to follow a count. it sounds simple but often people struggle with basics like that.

she’s sassy and flirty with the opening of the song, giving a close-lipped smile and a wave. the next beat she’s tossing her hair back as if she’s in a pantene commercial. then in the next count her expression and vibe immediately switches as she dives into the choreography.

chungha had spent a lot of time on the floor choreography to make it look cleaner. she had to fight the urge to rush the moves. she did it over and over until her lifting her legs and twirling them looked graceful and effortless. and most of all not messy.

the first change in the choreography comes when she gets up from the floor. it felt a little too lacklustre to just flick her fingers to emphasise the lyric pop (especially when there’s a gasp right after). to emphasise her moving with the lyrics, she lifted her leg into the air in a vertical split, only holding it for half a second before dropping her leg, shifting her weight onto her back leg and making an exaggerated gasp just as the song does as if to mirror that the move was exhausting.

she strikes the barbie pose for half a moment longer just to show that she is statuesque and immediately goes back into the choreography. the biggest part of this was pacing herself. because going from fast to still then back to movements took up a lot of energy.

at the second gasp of the song, she puts her hand on her chest and her finger out just as she learned to but she starts the move a little crouched so when she “inhales”, she straightens to rise with the inhale. she points her index finger downward with the movement.

again, small changes but only to emphasise her moves and attitude in the dance that much more. the last change comes towards the end of the choreography when the lyrics “i’m a bitch, i’m a boss” repeats. she makes sure to flip her hair back, eyebrow lifted to emphasise the attitude of a bitch then pantomiming a crown on her head in the next move to show that she’s the boss too. the song comes to a close when chungha drops into a split, pointing to her lips with the “gloss” lyric.

she holds the ending pose for four beats before easily sliding out of the split and bowing. she’s breathless. the choreography still takes a lot out of her especially because she did more to emphasise. but it was well worth it. (at least she thinks so.)

she reminds herself to buy lunch for eunji tomorrow. she felt good and it was really all thanks to her.

OOC; FC CHANGE + PLOT CALL!

this is a small note, i’ve switched face claims from park jihyo of twice to han eunji / mia of everglow!  i love jihyo ( still my second ult bias ) but i also feel like mia as a fc fits more as a different fc from when she used to be soojin! some things have changed will be listed below as well as some plot ideas that i’ve been wanting overall but never really looked for so this is a push! 

kaeun is still her sister meaning, she does introduce herself with as lee eunji unless it’s something official 

her age has changed, her bday is still jan 1st but it’s now jan 1st 2000 ( only the year changed ) which brings her down to 20 but that shouldn’t change much!

this also means she was 18 or so around mga ( i think it’s been two years since her season of mga’s? )

this project is going to be a pain in the ass.  that’s the first thing that she thought of when sua was listening to the coaches tell them how all of this was going to work.  truthfully, it just seemed to be set up for failure if they want the girls to quote, unquote “ play nice” but that’s way above her pay grade to worry about.  right now, the most that she can do is what they ask of her and pray that things work out the way they’re supposed to  (  preferably with her leaving sphere, but that’s something else entirely.  )  

for now, she’s picking through songs that could potentially work as her solo for the month, eyes narrowed as she flicks through her selection of music.  her eyes flick up when she hears someone enter the room only to see eunji, coming in.  sua doesn’t say anything at first, a little unsure if asking eunji about her own solo is going to cause a major chaotic break but  -  she figures that the other girl is cool headed enough that sharing ideas won’t hurt.  “ have you picked out your solo song? .. it’s okay if you don’t want to tell me what it is.”  sua pauses, her lips turning downward for just a second.  “ i’m just looking for mine, so don’t mind me.”

Idol Cafe ||

ep 2 recording with AND*ROMA 

The first episode had been very surprisingly popular to the extent of even getting their names into a netizen post. While this wasn’t the ideal opportunity that he’s always wanted (a chance to show off those singing chops), this was a given opportunity for him to show off his charisma and variety skills, which was still pretty great.

He had been very excited for the second episode and when he,d heard who their guests would be, he was even more excited since he knew some of them from the time on mnet global auditions season 3 and while he hadn’t been the winner it would fun to catch up with the girls he used to know.

As was typical for recording days, he sat before the mirror adjusting his hair and touching up his makeup since he was pretty good at it and the stylist noonas had accepted that he knew best for himself. He was handed the script and he excitedly looked over before finding his cohost and wish her luck as well. It was together that they succeeded on the first episode. It would be together that they would succeed on all the following episodes

besides, they played off each other well. The fun and charismatic one was jongsuk and the cool and collected one was Eunji. They worked well together and that was all that they could do at the time.

Seeing the girls that he used to be on the mgas with was quite exciting. But today wasn’t about that. They were here as and*roma and that’s how jongsuk was going to treat them. After all, Luxe hadn’t gotten special treatment just because he knew Ella from the mgas. He would be professional and thank the gods every day for the opportunity that he was given to bond with idol groups and become closer to them on their own level despite being a lowly trainee.
