making a list of good things that happened this year because there's too many and i need them recorded for posterity
visited bonus mom in england and it rewired my entire brain chemistry. i did not blog about it a lot i don't think and i don't talk about it often because it was such a joyful celia is fully present experience, but i will say that when i first arrived at the airport i was so fucking nervous and i was all kinds of shaky and fucked up and terrified that this six year long relationship would fall apart when we tried to translate it to irl and then i saw them there with a sign for me that is now on my wall in my apartment and something in my heart snapped into place and i literally physically flung myself at them and tripped over my suitcase and my knees gave out and i ended up dragging them down to the floor and we hugged for like at least ten minutes (conservative estimate probably). true story
jess is an entire bullet point on this list. funny sweet important passionate talented dedicated hardworking academically iconic definitely needs to take more naps keeps me apprised on extensive sims lore is coming out to visit in february is incisively thoughtful and we've made up beef for our dnd characters together. i love you a lot jess. i would say more things but i bet even these things are going to make you hide under a pillow. so.
so many other friends! like??? insane???? quite a few irl friends which is so cool! particular love for hal and silvain and rj (calendiles dnd crew i love you i'm so glad me putting down jenny has not meant putting down our friendships bc you're all such marvelous people) and gabby and silvain (silvain gets a double mention for Reading Literally All Of My 200K Word Fic reasons. erudite, and immensely appreciated)
and the new bg3 friends i'm beginning to associate with who i don't wanna name by name bc i'm shy and i care overly but PLEASEEE know if we've texted more than once about bg3 i probably adore you greatly and admire your creativity and thoughtful opinions and am trying to play it cool but im bad at it. yes this is about you. i deeply hope we will continue talking. probably about jaheira bc im obsessed with that woman.
being part of like 2 different dnd campaigns this year right around the time i started playing bg3 for the first time was REALLY fucking cool.
ACTUALLY ON THAT SUBJECT THE WHOLE BG3 THING WAS REALLY FUCKING COOL. it feels really special to not like....idk, this year is the first year of my life i have not been labeling myself as That Jenny Calendar Girl! i don't feel like i'm That Jenny Calendar Girl. i am celia :) i like a lot of different things! i like video games, i like bookmaking, i like drawing, i like cooking and food, i like fashion, i like writing, i like little calico critters <3 ironically my url is still the same but i think i am going to keep it that way for a little while, because i like remembering what brought me to this blog in the first place.
fell in love with my neighborhood! it was always bound to happen, but the moving-in process was rough, and it took me a while to connect with the place. now i know what drink i like to order at the local cafes, i know where i want to go for coffee and for pizza, i know about farmers' markets and local events, i know that There Is A Fucking Swimming Pool Across From My House. i do not think i can ever leave.
started to FINALLY feel comfortable in my job! i still don't totally know what i'm doing, but i don't feel like i'm sleepwalking through work while badly dissociating, and i really love the work that i do + the position i fill. i'm so hopeful that i can continue to work with teens. being a teen librarian is oft a difficult position to find
learned how to cook! did not do it often this year but oh well. i was busy.
went to the chicago art institute for the first time ever and got to see a sunday afternoon on the island of la grande jatte by georges seurat which was really insanely meaningful because sunday in the park with george is one of my dad's favorite musicals, and he went and saw that painting a long long time ago, and he also went and saw the monet paintings, and we texted a bunch about it
kept connected with my dad and my brother, and am starting to realize that having my own adult life means i fit a lot easier into theirs.
was briefly and meaningfully reunited with the actual love of my life (the pacific ocean)
VISITED A ROCK BEACH IN ENGLAND. if no one else got me i KNOW rock beach got me. everyone i have talked to is like "no, beaches need to be sandy" but i don't think they understand the sensory experience of sitting among 10000000000 rocks and picking them up and playing with them and finding a piece of rock chalk and drawing faces on the rocks and leaving all the rock faces for someone else to find and hopefully be unnerved by and then having your bonus mom's partner be like "celia are you just abandoning your children there" and reconsidering a lot of life choices but not enough to take the rock faces
i love you lake michigan im sorry i spent 80 percent of this year being mad at you for not being the pacific ocean im done having emotional problems i promise
went and saw wicked 3 different times
went on a couple of really meaningful and sweet dates and even if they didn't go anywhere i think the fact that i'm capable of feeling like that about another person is super awesome to know, and makes me so excited to keep on trying with that
went on a bunch of REALLY wonderful friend-dates and made new friends :) who i have been hanging out with on and off when our schedules allow for the last few months, and who invite me to parties and things!
received some really incredible and personal holiday gifts from a couple of friends, making me subsequently realize that maybe i'm not impossible to give gifts to
drew an entire wall of art for above my bed
bought a four piece microwave safe dish set in colors i love that remind me of marigold. for $10. will absolutely never let anyone forget that or change my blog title (which is a reference to the fact that i went insane that day to the extent that a woman leaving the shop saw me sitting outside with my cardboard box of dishes and went "are you still enjoying your dish set?" and i did not know who she was bc i blacked out and told everyone in the store about how much i loved the dish set. apparently)
i cannot even talk about marigold without getting so unwell and feeling in my chest just this indescribable feeling. i spent like eight years unwaveringly obsessed with a minor character from a 90s tv show who i really was just making into my own original character, but she never could feel fully mine, and the experience of creating my own girl from scratch (baking her, lol) when i was regularly dissociating and vaguely suicidal and having her be the thing that made me figure out how to connect with things and be happy again has been probably one of the best things i have ever experienced. to know unequivocally that the thing that makes me feel strong and centered is something i made for myself out of all the complicated insecurities and worries i feel. she brings me so much joy. i don't think i'm ever going to put her down. that 90s girl was not my baby, and that 90s video game woman, as beloved as she is, may not be around in my heart forever (though i strongly suspect it's going to be another decade, lol) but marigold? that's always. i love her. she's the girl i made for me
#musings#THIS BECAME A LONG LIST#i figure this is the fun good kind of emotions :') and i want to put them here#end of year retrospective#maybe i want to start a new tradition...

Tododeku Fic Rec Month - Week 2
I’m back with the next round of fics for the prompts. Here’s the Twitter page of the event and the Carrd page.
The fourth prompt is: “he’s something special.” a fic that’s left its mark on you in a way unlike any other fic has before. you regard it with fondness, with wonder. it’s taken up permanent residence in your heart.
"i'm so sorry that you have to have a body" by bangchanly https://archiveofourown.org/works/28775067 Trans man Izuku is having a really dysphoric episode but Shouto is there to support him. As a trans person myself, it really hits close to home to see these kinds of struggles and I'm glad that Izuku has Shouto to support him.
"Love Is More Than the Press of Your Lips" by clippymagnet (LilDoodleCat) https://archiveofourown.org/works/28887450 Shouto and Izuku are very physically intimate without sex or kisses. Sex and kisses are fine, but it's so nice to see other forms of affection being shown so sweetly, especially as an asexual person.
"Talking In Tongues" by Gallifrey101 https://archiveofourown.org/series/2042242 Shouto shows off his hickies in class. The first fic is funny crack and the second fic is wonderful communication, which is always nice to see.
"In Which a Successor is Never Enough" by RJKazooku https://archiveofourown.org/works/28344582 In a world where Shouto is the oldest Todoroki, things change. One of my favourite authors of all time, this story first planted the seed of my own take on the concept of Big Brother Shouto and writing that has felt like fulfilling my life's purpose, so thank you RJ.
"A Path To Recovery" by whathappenedbro https://archiveofourown.org/works/29807553/chapters/73333236 In which Shouto tells Aizawa about Endeavour after the fight with Stain and is saved. I almost wanted to save this for "hallowed heartbreaker" or "pitch perfect", but I knew I had to include it somewhere, it's too amazing not to include.
The fifth prompt is hallowed heartbreaker a fic that hurt you but you hold dearly. reverently, even, you might say. it's that good.
"every time is too often" by conamor https://archiveofourown.org/works/24201955 Izuku is a paramedic and Shouto is the Pro Hero who comes crawling to his house to get patched up. A few graphic descriptions of injuries and fears that someone is dead, this definitely hurts.
"a mighty ocean or a gentle kiss" by unreemarkable https://archiveofourown.org/works/30388731 After the War, Shouto shows up in Izuku's room and has a breakdown. Mild spoilers for the War Arc and more friendship than romance, this is still a good fic.
"A Collection of Masks" by Anonymous https://archiveofourown.org/works/28247424 Izuku is a faker, hiding all his pain behind a smiling suit of armour and Shouto is the only one who can see through it. Possibly some depression for Izuku and a lot of faked happiness, this is an intense fic.
"They don't know you like we do" by AgarJelly https://archiveofourown.org/works/33638899 The Deku Squad's fun day at the beach is crashed by some bullies who hurt Izuku in middle school. Links into another of Agar's work, the Tododeku King hits hard with this fic of angst.
"The Melodies We Can't Forget" by Aurigardyn https://archiveofourown.org/works/32045782 In a modern world where Shouto ran away to New York City and never fell out of love with Izuku, he's returning home for the first time. Lots of angst over childhood heartbreak, this hits hard.
The sixth prompt is pitch perfect a fic where izuku and shouto are characterized perfectly. their voices and their mannerisms, from the big things to the little details—the author has them all down to a T.
"Decadence" by giirlswhocrii https://archiveofourown.org/works/20090863 A normal day in Class 1A finds Izuku and Shouto sharing hot chocolate in the evening. The entire class is pretty in character here, it feels like an episode in the show.
"Love is simple, yet so hard to understand" by Ejrin https://archiveofourown.org/works/20412172 A story where Shouto discovers what it means to be loved through his classmates at UA. More character study than story, I really enjoyed this one since it paid attention to his friendships and romantic relationship.
"The Heart of a Hero" by WingsofaBird https://archiveofourown.org/works/29455998/chapters/72354714 While Izuku lays in the hospital after the training camp incident, Shouto and Toshinori meet and talk to one another. An interesting conversation between the two, even as Shouto's theorises run a little wild.
"fame is what it is" by monado https://archiveofourown.org/works/18162227/chapters/42952118 Shouto has been famous his entire life, not that he enjoys it. Another fic/character study, I'd say this holds both qualities in equal amount.
"the sun to my sky; the moon to my stars" by smallmightysmash https://archiveofourown.org/works/26155969 A recounting of canon up to the Endeavour Internship Arc from Shouto's POV, detailing how he fell in love with Izuku Midoriya. A cute story and character study.
I hope you enjoy these stories!

Okay. So I did one of these wish lists last season and got gifted way more than I ever could have anticipated so I thought why not do it again?
Shae’s wish list for Season 11.
Putting it under a cut because it’s long and rambling. And it will probably be revised and/or added to whenever the mood strikes me.
Things I want to see in Season 11:
The actual episode. Why the hell does everything have to be so dark in the literal sense?
Carol and Daryl to have an epic reunion that will totally blow the reunion in the woods outside of Terminus out of the water. C’mon. It really feels like the stage is being set for it and you know Angela loves her callbacks. What better moment to revisit than this one? The one where we all just knew these two were embarking on something new (only they didn’t, not in the way we’d hoped)? Like, it’s a seemingly insurmountable task but I know Norman and Melissa have it in them again. The real question is: do the writers?
Judith and RJ bonding with Aunt Carol and her telling them stories of the old days and all the people they didn’t get to meet. What better way to foster our nostalgia and make us remember why we fell in love with this show and its characters in the first place?
More Carol and Dog because those scenes in Diverged were the epitome of precious.
More Princess. Princess’s “meet and greets” with all our community members, yes. But Princess’s first meeting and assessment of Carol and Daryl. Methinks she’d have something mighty interesting and enlightening to say.
All this angst for Daryl and Carol eventually building to a head and Kang finally delivering on that “heart to heart” she mentioned what feels like a million and one years ago.
Aaron and Gracie scenes because Aaron is such a good daddy, ya’ll.
Rosita continuing to have significant screen time and not having to step back into the shadows just because Maggie is back.
Speaking of, I’m glad Maggie is back. I really am. For the simple fact that Baby Hershel is the cutest alone. But I’m not happy that everybody so far seems so ready to just defer to her when they’ve been perfectly fine making it without her. That is not okay and that shit needs to stop soon-ish.
Hershel making fast friends with Judith and RJ and Gracie and all the Jabila kids. They’re the next generation, ya’ll. I just really need this.
More Jerry and Nabila, please. Because I have a special soft spot for my Jabila.
Jerry and Ezekiel scenes. Because Jerry is Ezekiel’s person and the truest bond he has on the show.
Kelly and Lydia striking up a friendship because Kelly’s a sweet cinnamon roll and Lydia is in desperate need of friends.
More scenes of Lydia, period, and not just her seeking out Negan because they both feel like outcasts. Lydia was raised in Hell. Negan wreaked Hell. It’s different and I don’t appreciate the heavy-handedness of Angela trying to make Negan into something he has no right to be. Leave him at an antihero if you must persist but stop trying to convince us he’s earned his place as a good guy because he hasn’t. JDM may have risen to the challenge of making him a much more compelling, shades of gray character these past two seasons, but Negan is still the guy that gleefully bashed Glenn’s head in with a barb-wire wrapped baseball bat and if he’s not going to show remorse about it? The least he can do is show the common sense not to go out of his way to antagonize Maggie.
Kelly reuniting with Connie and Carol getting to have a hand in doing in. Some acknowledgment from Connie that she chose to go back into the cave with Magna would be nice but ultimately not necessary because I don’t think Connie blames Carol at all.
Dog surviving the season unscathed and getting all the cuddles he deserves.
The not-so-rosy truth about Leah being exposed and Daryl making his choice clear once and for all. Spoiler alert? Leah doesn’t even rank.
I’d love the fake dating/fake marriage trope to be trotted out at the good old Commonwealth with Carol and Daryl because I think it would be so much freaking fun and hey. If Kang is going to continue to give us fanfic (unknown child, a la Rick and Michonne), why not try out a true blue?
Some freaking clue as to why/how Rosita and Father Gabe hooked up. Like I just don’t get it, especially when you consider Siddiq was RIGHT THERE. The amount of distrust Rosita and the rest of Team Family had in him back in the early days of their arriving in Alexandria. I just find it hard to wrap my mind around this relationship when it wasn’t even on the radar pre-time jump.
That said, Father Gabe did have a great scene with Judith in (what was then) the Season Finale where he gave her a message for Rosita and I did find it touching. So I dunno, ya’ll. I could be persuaded. But not all that easily.
Some resolution to the whole Virgil thing. Talk about your random characters in the right place at the right/wrong time. Him promising his wife flowers every day touched me but come the fuck on.
More Carol and Lydia scenes and more Carol and Kelly scenes because Carol with these young ladies gives me life. You know what? Carol getting to interact with and have friendship with any and all of the ladies gives me life and should be a regular thing. Like TPTB missed the opportunity of a lifetime having Carol and Michonne sharing all kinds of bonding scenes. It would have been so poignant to watch them relate to each other over their lost children.
Can we please get some Commonwealth scenes where the kids of Alexandria learn how to be actual kids? I mean, not that they aren’t already, but I’d love to see them have the chance to be carefree and have fun. You know, though, that Jude is definitely going to be a tough little nut to crack, and she’s always going to be keeping one eye open for trouble.
Speaking of Commonwealth, I’d love to see all our faves dolled up, lol. Yes, it’s a rather shallow wish, but can you imagine Carol in a simple but beautiful dress and Daryl utterly tongue-tied to the point that the kids--Lydia, Judith, and RJ--just start giggling uncontrollably and Carol and Daryl both blush? Because I can and it is glorious.
Let the villains villain. Not everyone needs to be redeemed. Some people are just too far gone.
You know what? It’s past time to let Carol in particular unpack some of her trauma and cast it aside so she can move on that future Daryl keeps reminding her they have. She and Daryl are way overdue for a heart to heart where she just opens up a vein and lets it all flow. It’s the only way she’s going to be able to heal and move on, IMHO.
Some indication that Rick and Michonne and the Grimes babies and the rest of their family (Carol, Daryl, etc.) are going to be reunited.
The promise of at least a chance of a happy ending for everyone we’ve watched and loved these last 10+ years.
There’s more. There’s always more, lol. But that’s enough for now. As I think of things I just really, really need to see? I’ll come back to this list. Because hey. Like I said. I did one of these for Season 10 and I got way more of them than I ever could have anticipated so.
#The Walking Dead#Season 11 hopes and wishes and dreams#Caryl#Carol x Daryl#Carol Peletier#Daryl Dixon#really all of our faves#I want this season to be so emotionally satisfying#not devastating#sometimes those two things can be one and the same#sometimes nah#things that make me smile and cry#for reasons

Companions as Hallmark Christmas Movie Love Interests
Happy Holidays!! I’ve been watching a LOT of bad Christmas Movies, so here are the companions as Hallmark movie love interests! (I’ve left out Codsworth, Dogmeat, Strong, and DLC companions.) [disclaimer: I know most jobs listed in these do not work in the way that I will imply, but that’s pretty standard for these kinds of films, so I’m rolling with it. Also, most of these are based off of SOME movie I’ve seen this Christmas, so obviously it’s not going to be super original. They’re Hallmark movies; they’re not supposed to be ‘good.’]
Note: I’d love to expand these into a fic, but I really don’t have the free time right now. If anyone is interested in taking one of these ideas and running with it, please do!! Just tag me when you’re done so I can read it!!
Cait- Cait owns a bar and she has a strict “No Christmas” policy. No Christmas music. No singing Christmas carols. No decorations. She hates the holidays because she thinks that all of the happiness and love that they inspire is a bunch of BS. She say’s it’s all fake for the sake of Christmas cards and holiday specials. One day, you’re the last patrion in her bar, and Cait slips on some ice while she’s locking up. You take her to the hospital and she has *gasp* AMNESIA. You let Cait stay with you because you can’t find any friends or family of hers, and the hospital can’t keep her. To your surprise, this Cait actually seems to like Christmas. She treats everything like she’s learning about it for the very first time. She’s not all soft and lovey-dovey, sure, but she doesn’t mind the peppermint bark and ice skating and snowball fights and eggnog. As she begins to get her memory back, she gets colder, and she opens up to you that the reason she hates Christmas is because Christmas never meant anything to her as a child. Her parents were mean to her 24/7, and that didn’t stop around the holidays, which is why Cait was always so certain that Christmas cheer was a hoax. Cait regains her full memories, but because of your re-introduction to the holiday, she doesn’t mind it as much anymore. She’s no santa claus, but she does stock up on peppermint vodka and candy canes for the bar, and wears a mistletoe headband during December, which you always manage to take advantage of.
Curie- Curie is the owner of a flower shop in North Pole, Alaska. Every year, more people move out of town, and Curie has to try to sell more items during Christmas, which is her most profitable season. You’re a character actor who works as an elf for a mall santa agency, and this year, you’re sent to the Fairbanks/North Pole region. One day, you go to see the sights in North Pole and meet Curie while she’s working in her shop. She’s running around like a chicken with her head cut off. You ask if she’s busy, and she mentions that she just lost her only employee to the local Build-a-Bear. She charms you, and you apply on the spot. After she hires you, you realize that there’s a well dressed real estate executive that comes in at least once a week to hit on Curie. She explains that he’s been offering to help her business in exchange for a date, but she won’t do it. As you and Curie ready up for the Holidays, you realize that you’re really compatible. You have fights with the fake snow used for window displays, you help organize flowers in the walk in freezer together and bring hot chocolate in when it gets too cold, and you start sneaking kisses to one another when you have to retrieve an order from the back. One day, the business man comes in and tells you that he’s buying the land that your shop is built on unless you can afford to pay an astronomical hike in rent. Curie begins to worry that she’ll have to sell her shop, but you promise her that it won’t happen. Together, you come up with the idea to sell Christmas packages online, so families who live far away from each other can send a little piece of christmas to other family members for the holidays. The idea takes off. Not only are you able to sustain the hike in rent, but you’re able to pay for your own land to move the shop, so Curie will never have to worry about rent again. You never go back to the mall santa place, and you run your shop with Curie for years, making a comfortable living in a cozy town.
Danse- Oh, Paladin Danse-- He’s the son of the president, and one of the best generals in the country, and he’s getting married. You are the baker for his wedding. One day, when you’re trying to haul a prototype cake to the other end of the capitol building to put on display to show Danse and his future spouse, you turn a corner and run into Danse, covering the both of you in cake. You don’t recognize him, and he doesn’t introduce himself, but offers to help you in any way he can to rebuild the cake. He insists on helping, so you let him, which sparks a friendship between you. Once the cake is ready, you bring it back upstairs, to find Danse and his spouse ready to look at the cake. Danse and you start speaking when you run into each other in the halls, and one day, he asks you on a walk around the grounds, where he confesses to you that he doesn’t personally feel attracted to his spouse, but it must be done for the good of the country. Just before his wedding, you confess your feelings and Danse runs off. The wedding comes to a halt and nobody knows why until Danse shows up to tell his future spouse that he can’t go through with this because he is in love with someone else. He approaches you as you’re cleaning up the confectionary table and tells you that he has to be true to himself, and that means being true to you.
Deacon- You’re a server working at a diner in a moderately large town. Deacon comes in one day and introduces himself as the new hire. You train him, and he’s kind of terrible, but he makes you laugh. You slip him your number after a week or so of light flirting and banter, but he turns you down. You leave to let Deacon close, but realize that you left your phone at the diner in an embarrassed hurry. You head back to the restaurant and find Deacon snooping through the boss’s files! After you catch him, he confesses that he’s an undercover spy, sent to keep an eye on your boss, who is suspected of using the diner to launder money. Now that you know, Deacon brings you on as his partner, and swears you to secrecy. You two go on a cute stakeout, have researching sessions together, and slowly fall in love over the course of December. At the end of the month, you come in for a shift to see your boss being arrested, and Deacon isn’t there. It isn’t until Christmas eve that you get a knock on your door. Deacon is there with takeout. He explains that his boss decided to go in without asking him, and they forced him back to the office, barring any outside contact until he could provide a full report. He confesses that he has fallen in love with you, but has also lost his job because of it, because he confessed to breaking cover. You reunite with a warm kiss and warm takeout, and, now that you’re both jobless, you start a P.I. agency together.
Hancock- Oh. Oh. Oh. BAD BOY CELEBRITY gets in trouble with his publicist over general bad-boy-scandalous behavior. YOU are a choir director for a low income rec center in a small town and you are putting on a Christmas Pageant. You don’t have the funds, but eventually the publicist finds out about your little operation, and she is ALL over it. She brings Hancock in to work with the kids and she brings an entire media team with him. He’s arrogant at first, and doesn’t even remember your name for the first few days, but you notice a change in him as you begin to work together. As skeptical as you are, Hancock really connects with the kids, and really seems to care about the Christmas Pageant. While you’re there, the kids start teasing you two, and implying that you have crushes on each other. In the end, The publicist scores him a comeback story and interview on a national morning talk show, but it would mean missing the pageant. While it seems like he’s chosen to go to the talk show, he changes his mind and arrives just before the pageant with flowers to apologize. After you accept his apology, the kids push you two under some construction paper and white puffball mistletoe.
MacCready- RJ is a single father who is still getting over the death of his wife. He has yet to move on in part due to his son’s illness. You are an heiress to a rather large fortune, but you’re told that you have a year to get a job and learn about good old fashioned hard work before you’re allowed to have access to the fortune. You start out with no discernible skills, so you become a babysitter for RJ. He goes to work in the evening as a security guard and you take care of Duncan at home. Duncan confesses to you that things haven’t been the same since his mother died. One night, you decide to ask Duncan what he wants for Christmas, and he tells you that he told the Santa Claus at the mall that he wants his dad to be okay. One night, RJ comes home and confesses that with the holidays coming up, he doesn’t know if he can afford to keep paying you to watch him every night, to which you reply that you’d gladly work for half salary. One night, you two stay up until Duncan has to get up for school, just talking about your lives. MacCready starts inviting you on outings with him and Duncan. One day, after RJ loses his job and can no longer to afford medicine for Duncan, you confess to him that you’ve been rich the entire time, and that you can pay for it yourself. MacCready accuses you of lying to him this entire time about who you are, and he asks if he can ever trust you again. You tell him that omitting to your fortune was a lie, but your feelings for him never were. You two make up, move into a house together, and Duncan thanks you for granting him his wish.
Nick Valentine- Did someone say GHOST ROMANCE? Yes, I did. You inherit a small farmhouse from an old relative that you haven’t seen in years. You go to get a good look at to see if it’s even salvageable, and you find that not only is it relatively well kept, but things move when you’re not looking. You spend the night and are woken up in the middle of the night by someone rummaging around in the attic. You find Nick, and you threaten to call the police. He’s polite, and promises it’s not what it looks like, but tells you not to call the police. When you do, they show up to find nothing in your house. Once they leave, you turn back, and Nick is in your house again. He explains that he’s a ghost, and for some reason, he can only be seen by the deed holder of the house, which is why your relative hasn’t been to the house in years. Nick explains that he died in this house a few decades ago, but he doesn’t know how it happened. Determined to figure it out in hopes that it can help him pass on, he was looking in the attic to see if it might have any proof of how he died and if foul play was involved. Over the course of your investigations, you two become good friends, and as much as you want it to be more, you tell yourself that it could never happen. Together, you slowly piece together that Nick was murdered just before proposing to the daughter of someone who used to own the house. As you and Nick celebrate this information, you realize that Nick hasn’t passed on. Nick explains that ghosts can’t pass on until they feel they have nothing to leave behind. He explains that he has grown attached to you, and doesn’t want to leave you behind. You move into the Farmhouse with Nick where you two live until your spirits can both pass on together.
Piper- Piper is a journalist who has been tasked with writing a weekly features column about Christmas, but she has found herself disillusioned with the holidays. She thought she’d be getting a Christmas bonus that she could use to buy Nat something special, but there was never a bonus, and money is really really tight. You’re quite literally the child of Santa Claus who has been sent out into the world to be with the people and really learn what the true meaning of Christmas is before you start your apprenticeship with your father to be the next in line. You meet Piper at charity event where you’re gathering toys to send to low income communities. After Piper interviews you, you start asking her questions, and upon seeing that the cold world has turned such a warm heart into a Christmas cynic, you decide to give her the Christmas of a lifetime. I’m talking ice skating, light shows, snow on christmas, and Nat getting a few extra presents. On Christmas eve, you’re called back to the North Pole. Your dad wants you to start your apprenticeship with him on Christmas by seeing how it’s done. You tell him that you can’t, because you have your own duties this Christmas, and he’s proud of you for that. You tell Piper about your dad, and she doesn’t believe you at first, but after bringing her and Nat to the North Pole to see it all happen, she apologizes for not believing you. You kiss, and agree to split time between the North Pole and Piper’s hometown, because you would never make her give up what she loves.
Preston- You grew up in a small town, but moved to the city to get a job at an ad agency. Around the holidays, your agency notes that they’re looking for something more down-to-earth and rustic for their new ‘winter campaign,’ so they send you to your hometown for Christmas. They’re expecting a campaign plan by new years, but while you’re trying to do your job, you find Preston, selling Christmas trees at the local Christmas tree farm and greenhouse. He teaches you to slow down, and to appreciate a christmas built on family, camaraderie, and love. You use your ad/social media experience to save his dying christmas tree farm. At the end of the year, you decide to quit your job and stay with Preston, who brings you on as a partner in the business and in life.
X6-88- X6 is a loan company executive who has been sent to audit the inn that you have been taking care of since your spouse passed away years ago. He’s quite serious and no-nonsense, which clashes with the capacity for compassion that you clearly possess. He thinks such traits are inefficient and pointless. Despite that, you include him in all of the Christmas dinners and events that you have planned, even if he’s not enthused about them. Through the Christmastime events that you plan for the inn throughout the Christmas season, X6 realizes that you’re not just all heart and no head. You have great ideas, and you’re inclusive of him even when he’s pessimistic. He uses his own knowledge of your loan plan to outsmart his own company and save your inn for the time being. He decides to leave his job in the city to live with you at the inn so he can handle the business and finances.

BTS as Boyfriends
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4dda350619b1677be869cfd2a683f2fd/de8c286835834d05-30/s540x810/ff26b378e55e6dec135212b7dea3b8db8206b234.jpg)
Jin is definitely awkward at first, but once he’s comfortable with you, he’s super affectionate. He’s shy, so he’s so nervous about everything at first, holding hands, kissing, even hugging you. But he’s also filled with love, so once his walls come down, it’s love 24/7. He makes you dinner, packs you lunch, makes sure you always have your favorite snacks. He’s also super encouraging, always telling you you look good, but not as good as him 😂. Jin is so funny, you laugh everyday. I’m talking from the moment you wake up until you close your eyes. From silly little jokes, to funny pictures or making faces, he’s made it his life mission to make you smile. He’d rather facetime than text or talk on the phone, but he still always sends cute little texts of him posing with RJ or a dog he saw on a walk or a drawing he made. He always tries to plan fun dates. Even if they’re just staying at home, he makes sure to get a movie you told him you wanted to see or that you mentioned was one of your favorites when you were little. He remembers so many little things about you, not just how you like your coffee, but the name of your pet when you were a kid or even your favorite shoes you had as a kid. He can definitely be stubborn at times, but it’s never in an aggressive manor. And if he ever raises his voice, he immediately feels bad about it, even if you aren’t bothered by it because it’s really not raising his voice. He’s super hard working, and that translates into the relationship. He wants to make sure that you know how much you mean to him and you’re a top priority to him. After you’ve dated for a while, he loves talking about getting a pets with you, pets over kids for sure. Not that he doesn’t want them someday, maybe, but for right now, having a fur baby is way more obtainable and feasible.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/1bf0ed8c2f3471e48be9b2716d4a2644/de8c286835834d05-41/s640x960/25387869e668008d0210ce3e953c39e983688a6d.jpg)
Yoongi is really just a big softy and wants everyone in his life to have love and happiness. He may have trouble expressing things verbally, but there’s so many other little things that he does to show you he cares. From little notes, to small gifts and flowers, to soft gestures, he makes sure you know how much he cares about you. He’s definitely slow to say i love you, not because he doesn’t feel it, he just doesn’t know how to say it, but he definitely shows it. He loves to take care of you. He cooks dinner, will do the shopping, the laundry, buy you tampons, get your favorite wine. he remembers the little things you like. You tell him one time you like a candy, there’s always that candy in the pantry. He’d much rather have a night in than going out, but that doesn’t mean it’s not still romantic and cute. He’ll even dress up and set the table for you like it’s a restaurant. PDA is almost non existant outside of holding hands, but when it’s just the two of you, you’re showered in kisses. He loves just soft and cheesey moments. If Holly likes you, you’re a keeper. As you get more serious, talks to turn to get Holly a sibling, deffinely another dog or cat over a human sibling. While he may seem closed off or work obsessed, he definitely makes sure you know how special you are to him everyday. Sometimes you get upset because you feel like he’s being stand-offish or ignoring you, and he gets frustrated, but once you begin to understand each other more, you grow to understand how each other work, and the things you thought were him ignoring you are just part of his personality. But he works hard on becoming more vocal and open everyday.

This man right here was designed to be a boyfriend. Like every cliche is him, in the most adorable way possible. Flowers because it’s a Tuesday, a little plushie he saw at the store and remind you of him, matching hats, matching sneakers, matching bags, he’s all about that. He always makes sure his hoodies are clean so you can take one if you want to. He also loves making you playlists of songs he’s been enjoying or remind you of him or he thinks you’ll like. He also loves taking you out and showing you off. He wants everyone to love you, but not as much as he does. PDA doesn’t bother him, he’s so affectionate 24/7. He loves holding hands and kissing, cuddling, tickles, everything. He just wants to be with you. Sometimes you have to tell him to give you some space because he would smother you with love all day if he could, just so sweet. You have little tiffs sometimes, but nothing ever blows up into a serous argument. He’s definitely great at expressing what’s bothering him or upsetting him and working on finding a resolution to anything that’s bothering you. He loves surprising you, just showing up at work to take you to lunch. Telling you to be ready by 10, he’s got an exciting day planned together, gifts all the time. Once he’s serious, he has no problem planning your future together. He’ll stay up late talking about how many kids he wants and what names he likes, where he wants to settle down, growing old together. Once he’s in love, he’s in love deep.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/2f96dedc0c681ba9f6e278d924dc0c60/de8c286835834d05-a6/s540x810/73d14f7297e9d6e17aedf4640bdcafe82a9aa6bd.jpg)
Joon definitely struggles between being the strong and masculine boyfriend vs the soft and cuddly boyfriend and tries to find the balance between the two. He’s very traditional, so there’s a whole courting process before you’re officially a couple. He loves taking you out, on either dates to 5 star restaurants or a picnic along the river, if he could take you on a date evrynight he would. At first, it can almost feel like he’s trying too hard, and it’s partially because he’s trying to find a happy medium of being a masculine and soft boyfriend. But once he finds that happy medium, it’s so special. He loves traveling with you, he wants to go to every museum with you, always telling you things like you belong in a mesum or you’re more beautiful than the art. Definitely cheesy, but it’s so cute and endearing. There’s definitely moments at the beginning where you get upset he doesn’t feel the same about you as you do about him, but it’s just because he struggles showing his affection. But he’s such a good listener and so good with his words, you have great talks about what you’re feeling and want and need from each other. Once you get through that, it’s seriously like a movie. He’s the picture perfect boyfriend, and once things get serious, it’s dinner with his family once a week and planning the next 50 years. He talks about how he can’t wait to have kids and how you’d be the best mom. It seriously would grow into such a warm and comfortable friendship and partnership. Once he’s commited and serious, he’s in it for life.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7857416926811ce482769577cff7fbe0/de8c286835834d05-c3/s540x810/ba019492a9bcc881b2b2acd00ee596ba104605d0.jpg)
Jimin is a cheesy romantic, so you have such a fun and loving relationship. He wants to take you around the world and take pictures every step of the way. You definitely go to every Disney park, like he has to have some kind of connection there becaue you go to the secret clubs and in every castle. He’s also super affectionate, will kiss you at every change he gets, pda isn’t a worry for him. He hates being alone, so it seems like he’s clingy at first, but you realize it’s part of his cham, and it makes you fall in love with him. When he falls in love, it’s 110%. He’s naturally flirty, which can be annoying, but he makes sure to let you know you’re the only one he’s thinking about. Gifts, so many gifts. It could be a $2 keychain at the gas station to a $10,000 bag, if it reminds him of you, he buys it. He also makes you little notes and drawings all the time. You have a whole little box of the notes and cards he’s gotten you. Matching outfits everyday of the week if he could. It can be as obvious as wearing the same jacket to something subtle like the same bracelet. He talks about starting a family with you, but only after you’ve traveled every place he wants to take you. He talks about wanting to move out of the city and back to the coast when you start a family so you can have pets and a yard and grow up away from the crazy that city can bring. He just loves every cliche, and wants it to feel like you’re in a romcom everyday.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f3abbef01ba9fed5b4692f4e1111f5a1/de8c286835834d05-4b/s540x810/4af5214137190ea95430f2b02f829d05b083e6c6.jpg)
Tae is very closed off at first because he’s been screwed over in the past, but once he realizes you like him for him, he’s so sweet. He was designed to cuddle all day everyday, so he’s constantly trying to get you to come over just to cuddle on the couch and watch tv. He writes you little songs all the time and gets too embraced to ever sing them for you, but he gives you all the poems and songs he writes. He loves just doing everyday things with you like walking Tan or doing laundry. He also loves planning cute dates at home, making a blanket fort and watching movies, turing the living room into a dance floor, painting together, he always makes the cutest little home dates. Like pinterest level cute. You love to just sit together and listen to music or read, and it’s just comfortable. He’s shy in public with you, but he’s so loving when your alone. He loves taking you to museums and galleries, he just loves art and wants you to love all of his favorite artists. Once you’ve been dating for a while, he’s definitely talking about a family. He wants a little Tae army, and he wants to move out of the city and have a farm. Horses, sheep, chicken, dogs, cats, and a huge garden. It would definitely be slow and hard at first, but once he knows you he can trust you, it’s so cute and perfect.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c423d9859ba537e0a2150cd4434b75ca/de8c286835834d05-1b/s540x810/be4fb8b3109fa43560424453af8ccc99ea00def2.jpg)
This boy is an angel on earth and is made of 100% pure love. The most hopeless of romantics, he makes everyday special. It can almost feel like he’s trying too hard at first, and it may be becaus he is, but it’s just because he’s so full of love. The most loving and respectful boyfriend you could ever have. It’s like a month before he stops asking if he can hold your hand and two before he stops asking to kiss you. He’s awkward at first just because he wants everything to be perfect. This boy wants you to feel like you’re all the sweet scenes in K Dramas ans RomComs. So many sweet gestures, like flowers, thoughtful gifts and hand written notes. He also loves taking pictures and videos of you when you’re not paying attention. It’s 75% of his camera roll. He tells you he loves the way your face looks when you’re reading or the way your nose scrunches when your laugh, then shows you the picture of it so you can see what he’s talking about. He loves taking you on trips and to fancy restaurants, but loves going to hole in the walls or staying home and ordering takeout more. He loves going on adventures, too. Like hop n the car and just drive, go on a hike, driving to the beach just because, always down for a road trip. All for matching tattoos, like you have to talk him out of tattooing your name in a heart. He struggles to say I love you at first, but once he knows it and you’ve said it to him, it’s non stop. Random texts and calls just to say I love you. He can not wait for you to meet his family, like would have introduced you in the second date, but waits until you’re ready. He also loves talking about the future with you. How many kids you want, living in the country, having so many pets, somewhere that’s close to nature so you can just go one hikes and adventures.

Drunken Kisses
Peter Parker x Male Reader
Warnings: Implied smut, alcohol
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"And what the fuck are you doing with those, RJ?"
Tony's voice rung out, calling out the nickname he had given me. It stood for Reused Junk, since I always was found stealing leftover junk from Tony's workshop. I turned to face him, holding up my hands filled with metal scraps. Tony always let me use the scraps of metals he didn't need, but he never seemed to know what I used them for. Hell, half the time I didn't even know what to sue them for. I just created art with them, abstract art or whatever.
"Art stuff," I answered.
"Art stuff?" Tony folded his arms over his chest, a small smirk making its way onto his lips. "Really?"
"Uh, yeah! Look, Tony, babe, I need nothing more than my wicked mad skills, my rugged good looks, and maybe like, half a million dollars." I carefully gathered the pieces into a box so I didn't get cut. I then picked the box up and held it underneath my arm.
Tony laughed, stepping to the side to he could let me pass. "I'll think about the last one."
I winked at him as I passed by. "You'll give into me one of these days, Stark!"
Tony and my friendship was probably one of my favorite things about being here. I wasn't the biggest, baddest, or coolest Avenger, but no one ever seemed to make me feel inferior to them. Tony, after learning about my intense creativity, would ask me what I would think of a design or ask for my help with one. We quickly became friends, and the rest was pretty much history. We teased each other as much as we could, but were there when anything went wrong.
Another one of my favorite things about being here was Spider-Man himself — little Peter Parker: the brown-haired boy was the one I fell in love with. Tony seemed to pick up on it right away, and I blamed it on him being bisexual that he was able to immediately sniff out my crush.
Peter was always soft and almost the opposite of Tony in every single way. My heart fell for the spider boy almost as soon as I laid eyes on him. I couldn't get enough of him, but I almost swore he didn't feel the same way.
I wouldn't say that I was perfect at picking out other people's sexuality, but Peter didn't radiate anything about being into guys in any sort of way. Though it hurt, I would rather stay his friend than to potentially ruin our friendship over my feelings.
I ended up back in my room, plopping the box of scraps onto the desk I owned. I reached out and grabbed the rolling chair I'd stolen from the lab before sitting on it and wheeling myself towards the massive sculpture that sat in the corner of my room.
It was a large spider web with little mementos stuck inside of it. I always added to the web whenever there was spare metal that I was able to fold with my hands. I kept everything in the web like a special sort of shelf that fit my style and aesthetic.
Pictures were the main thing that littered my sculpture. It was pictures of times that I didn't want to forget. There were pictures of Steve and I dancing when he was teaching me the little he knew. Pictures of Tony and I making silly faces with one another. Pictures of Bucky and I out on the roof. Peter and I watching movies. Loki and I pretending to fight one another. Pictures of all of us doing whatever. I could even begin to describe all the ones I had taped up onto the metal web. There were scraps of things I had taped up there as well. Movie ticket stubs, ice cream cone wrappings, leaves, papers, drawings, anything and everything.
Everything on my web was a reminder to me of the family that I had, the family that I had made.
"Woah..." I spun around in the chair to see Peter standing in my doorway, his eyes glued onto my sculpture. "Did you make that?"
I felt myself become flustered as I turned my head to look as well. "Yeah. Yeah, I did."
"That's awesome!" He walked up to it and looked over the pictures and items I had on there. "I don't even remember you taking some of these pictures." He pointed to an amusement park wristband I had put up there. "I took you there; I remember that."
"Yeah. It was fun. I'm shocked you remember that." I got up from the chair and went to stand beside him. "Shocked I remember that," I admitted with a laugh.
My powers had fucked with my memory a bit. I had the power of hypnosis and mind reading, but it required an immense amount of mental control and focus. It made me forget things sometimes, and I didn't like that. So I made my sculpture so I would be unable to forget.
"Does this help?" Peter asked.
"Yeah," I said, "it does. I don't remember everything in great detail, but it's helped. At least I haven't lost everything, ya know?"
I cleared my throat and went over to my bed, trying to fix it up a little. I felt a bit self conscious about Peter being in my room, but it didn't really seem to bother him. I sat down on my bed and watched the boy.
Part of me desperately wanted to read his mind and have a walk around to figure out if he liked me back the way I liked him. No, no, what the fuck? That was wrong. Absolutely wrong. I frowned at myself and shook my head, standing back up.
"I'm gonna head out to grab something from the kitchen. You're welcome to stay, just-just don't tell anyone else about the sculpture. It's a little embarrassing for me." That wasn't a lie; I was embarrassed that I needed help remembering things. It was just I didn't want everyone to know that I valued them so dearly. I wasn't sure how they'd react, and I didn't want to seem like a pushover.
I grabbed a can of soda from the refrigerator. What would Peter think of it? I closed my eyes as I opened the drink. He wouldn't care so much, would he? He looked interested, but would he think it's weird?
"Hey! RJ! So glad you're here!" Tony called out to me, startling me.
I opened my eyes and looked at him, eyeing him suspiciously. "What've you got planned...?"
Tony merely winked and grabbed my hand, yanking me along behind him. "Nothing!”
I could smell the alcohol on his breath, and it was clear that the hero was rather tipsy. "Fucking liar!" I shouted back as he pulled me into the living room.
Thor, Bruce, Natasha, Clint, Wanda, Steve, Bucky, and Peter were sitting on the floor. Various glasses littered the ground around them, showing that everyone had some sort of alcohol in their system. Well, everyone but Peter and I. We made nervous eye contact, and it was obvious that we were being drug into some kind of game.
Tony plunked me down on the floor next to Steve, and I found myself laughing. "What the bloody fuck are we doing?" I asked Tony.
He thrust a half-filled bottle of wine at me. "Oh, sweet boy, we're playin' a game. But you and Spidey over there gotta finish this so we can play."
I'd been friends with Tony far too long, so I had a higher alcohol tolerance. Peter looked scared out of his mind, so I drank most of the bottle before handing it to him to swallow the rest.
"The point of that was?" I asked Tony as he went out, grabbing a couple bottle of alcohol and two more shot glasses.
"So the two of you could be a bit tipsy with the rest of us," he answered as he handed both Peter and I a shot glass. Only then did I notice that the others were holding shot glasses in their hands.
I looked around the circle suspiciously, but I couldn't figure out what we were doing or what Tony was planning.
"Never Have I Ever," Tony said, basically reading my thoughts.
"Oh my god, Tony, this is a college game," I said, laughing.
"Yet it shares secrets," he replied, filling up the shot glasses.
We went around the circle, playing the stupid game. It was more fun than I had originally thought that it would be. Peter and I were relatively pure, though, based on some of the things that were being asked. I was comfortably buzzed when Tony decided to be the asshole best friend and ask the question:
"Never have I ever had a crush on another person in the room."
Thankfully, Natasha, Clint, Bucky, and Steve took shots as well as I did. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Peter downing his shot.
"Oooh! Steve?" Tony pressured, slurring his 's' a little bit.
Steve's cheeks turned pink as he glanced over towards Bucky. Bucky only took the chance to take Steve's face in his hands and kiss him. I couldn't help but cheer along with the rest of the team. It was about time those two had admitted it to the rest of us.
"Clint drank," I teased, pointing over to him.
He rolled his eyes at me with a laugh and gestured to Natasha. "I'd sure hope I like my girlfriend or this would get real awkward real fast."
"Peter, I'm surprised you drank to that," Natasha said.
I turned towards Peter, and his whole face was flushed red, probably because he had been spotted.
"Who is it?" Tony asked. Peter bit his lip, refusing to answer aloud. His eyes eventually met mine silently before he looked back down at his lap. "RJ? Ooh, damn, RJ! You lucky bastard. Woulda sucked if he didn't like you back."
I rolled my eyes at Tony's drunkenness. At least he kept the secret for long enough. Peter's eyes came back up to meet mine and I shrugged. I wasn't ever really all that shy, but the alcohol helped boost my confidence.
I got up, walked over to him, straddled his hips, and pressed my lips up against his. He kissed me back hesitantly as the others whistled behind us.
Once I pulled away, I smiled down at him. "I kept the wristband because that's when I fell in love with you."
Peter looked over my face and his eyes settled on my lips again. "I fell in love with you when we went to the movies the week before," he muttered before pulling me back in for another kiss.
The alcohol made him bolder, and I would be lying if I said that that didn't turn me on at least a little. I ran my fingers through his hair, gripping it and giving it a light tug. Peter left off a soft gasp, a blush darkening his cheeks.
I smirked as I pulled away, scrambling to my feet and pulling Peter up with me. "Sorry, Tony. I gotta play your little game later. Maybe next time some things'll have changed," I said with a wink, taking Peter to my bedroom.
Reading Meme
tagged by @whitherling, thanks! oh god a tinge of guilt because I haven’t caught up on Whither for months now
1. Which book has been on your shelves the longest? All the books that my parents first scavenged back when they were still a couple of FOBs living off my dad’s grad school stipend. These included such gems as Betty Crocker’s Helpful Household Hints, which I read cover to cover multiple times.
2. What is your current read, your last read and the book you’ll read next? Current read: Rereading The Wee Free Men Last read: Legion: Skin Deep by Brandon Sanderson. Man, those are some fun books. Next read: Beasts of Burden by Evan Dorkin. Came across one of the stories in this post and felt like reading the rest.
3. Which book does everyone like and you hated? The Maze Runner. Red flag #1: Stereotypical “normal” boy with no personality turns out to be good at everything. Red flag #2: the singular female character has a description that consists solely of her long legs and beautiful lips. At this point I wised up and abandoned ship.
4. Which book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read, but you probably won’t? N/A. Every book I put on the list, I will one day put in a good-faith effort to read.
5. Which book are you saving for “retirement?” I refuse to read the Wheel of Time series until I am stably employed with a wife and a mortgage. Only at that point will I be ready to make the life commitment that RJ’s pile of bricks will require.
6. Last page: read it first or wait till the end? I used to read the last page first when I was younger, but that was before I started getting emotionally invested in books.
7. Acknowledgements: waste of ink and paper or interesting aside? Interesting aside.
8. Which book character would you switch places with? Elda from Year of the Griffin because the warmth, love, and pure power of friendship that pour out of that book make me bawl every time. Alternatively, Martha Hatter from Howl’s Moving Castle because working in a bakery is my dream.
9. Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life (a person, a place, a time)? Slake’s Limbo, an peculiar book about a boy living in the New York subway tunnels that I read during the family road trip to Yellowstone.
10. Name a book you acquired in some interesting way. I was walking through a hip-but-seedy neighborhood in PDX, looked down, and saw a copy of Martha Stewart’s Cookies on the sidewalk. Missing cover and index, but otherwise in good condition. It has a truly killer recipe for rosemary butter cookies, and a delicious lemony sablé that uses hard-boiled egg yolks.
11. Have you ever given away a book for a special reason to a special person? Nope. Giving books as gifts is a dangerous game.
12. Which book has been with you to the most places? I don’t own enough books and haven’t moved enough yet.
13. Any “required reading” you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad ten years later? Nah, all the ones I didn’t like, I have never revisited. Namely, the plays.
14. What is the strangest item you’ve ever found in a book? Nothing notable.
15. Used or brand new? Get them from the library, ya heathen. Owning books is cumbersome.
16. Stephen King: Literary genius or opiate of the masses? Can’t judge him because I haven’t read any of his books.
17. Have you ever seen a movie you liked better than the book? Sadly, Howl’s Moving Castle. This probably wouldn’t have happened if I’d read the book first. Now I can’t appreciate the DWJ version properly.
18. Conversely, which book should NEVER have been introduced to celluloid? Matthew Swift is still a bare glimmer in a Hollywood exec’s eye but I just know we’re all going to regret it.
19. Have you ever read a book that’s made you hungry, cookbooks being excluded from this question? Not that I can remember. But I agree that the first feast in Harry Potter is a good one.
20. Who is the person whose book advice you’ll always take? I owe like 90% of my reading history to a combination of @seiya234 and @tanoraqui. I also always read what my sister recommends but that’s only out of a misguided sense of familial obligation.
Tagging: @mareliini because I have no idea what kind of books you read
#BookReview (1 of 50) - Wonder RJ Palacio.
I have just finished a fantastic book.
I am so happy to be talking about Wonder by RJ Palacio,
It is technically children book, but it doesn’t really real like usual children book.
It will be pretty sure it is going to be spoiler but it is okay as long as you can take a learning from it.
This book follows a ten year old boy named August Pullman, who was born with very a rare genetic condition that cause him to have a major facial deformity, he had many different surgeries over the years, he said 27 different surgeries in the face and he is still left not looking like a normal little boy because of all of these different surgeries,
And Mr. Tushman’s speech was very meant
“Ladies and Gentlemen , I am very honored to present you this years Beecher Prep School scholastic Achievers, Congratulations to all of you! The final award this morning is the Henry Ward Beecher Medal to honor students who have been notable or exemplary in a certain areas through out the school year. Typically. This medal has been our way of acknowledging volunteerism or service to the school. Henry Ward Beecher was, of course, the nineteenth century abolotionist – fiery sermonizer for human rights- after whom this school was named, while reading up on his life in preparation for this award, I came upon a passage that he wrote that seemed particularly ruminating upon all year long.Not just the nature of kindness , but the nature of one’s kindness. The power of one’s friendship, the test of one’s character, the strength of one’s courage”
Mr Tushman’ voice cracked abit, like he got all choked up. He actually cleared his throat and took a big sip of water , and Augie started paying attention for real now to what he was saying
And Mr. Tushman continued his speech “ The strength of one’s courage, kindness, friendship, and character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings, and propel us , on occasion, to greatness. And this is what the Henry Ward Beecher Medal is about : recognizing greatness.
But How do we do that? How do we measure something like greatness ? Again, there’s no yardstick for that kind of thing. How Do we even define it? Well Beecher actually had an answer for that.
Greatness => Lies not to being strong , but in the right using of strength, He is the greatest whose strength carries up the most hearts.
He is the greatest, whose strength carries up the most hearts by the attraction of this own, without further ado, this year I am very proud to award Henry ward beecher medal to the student whose quiet strength has carried up the most hearts. So will August Pulman please come up here to receive this award ?
In Conclusion, it does, send a great message about how powerful kindness can be in a person’s life, if you are just a little bit kind can really change somebody’s life, being kind isn’t enough. You should give one level up from that points, being kinder 😊
The truth about catnapping
New Post has been published on https://www.petlovers.shovelnews.com/the-truth-about-catnapping/
The truth about catnapping
They do it so well, it was named for them. Cats catnap.
Kittens are famous for playing until they drop. As they grow older, they become more aware of their sleep needs, and how to handle them.
their batteries
Cats tend to store their energies, working a cycle of all out effort and deep, often hidden, sleep. In between is the catnap state, where they are aware of their surroundings, but not engaging with them. This “low power” state is what I find so delightful about their companionship. They can be present during our own quiet activities, and yet need no special care or amusement at such times.
Because the whole point of the cat nap is to stay in touch with the outside world, they can wind up in odd places, or drape themselves over unlikely objects. Much of this is in response to their environment; a cat snoozing on the bed is less engaged and more relaxed than a cat lying on a table near the window, listening for activity at the bird feeder.
We are best to leave them alone while they are deeply recharging, and they often hide in order to do so. Snoozing in plain sign means they can be amenable to some gentle petting and soft words. Don’t rearrange their careful arrangements or seek to rouse them. Just let them know that when we see them, we feel affection.
Everyone likes that.
While it looks indolent, cars are expressing their survival instincts with these patterns of sleep and activity. They hunt most avidly at dawn and dusk, and alternate periods of rest with alert observation of their prey, their hunting territory, and any changes that might have taken place. They can, if need be, adjust their schedule and movements to avoid other predators and take advantage of any new source of prey.
their senses
We are familiar with this half-state if we have ever drowsed on a warm beach or cuddled under an afghan while snow falls outside the window. There is something very relaxing about being aware of what is going on around us, yet lacking the inclination or obligation to do anything about it.
Likewise, our cats are still able to react to anything that sounds interesting. This state is easily found, and easily interrupted, should they choose. My coming home from work would usually happen during teen cat Tristan’s nap, and he would reliably appear, adorably blinky, by the time I opened the front door.
Olwyn has been known to rouse herself from what seemed like a solid nap to inquire about treat time, and Tristan’s ear will flip towards me to see what answer she gets. The big boys, RJ and Mithrandir, will already be in their positions when I enter the living room to dispense the treats.
It does take time for baby cats to understand the urgings of their instincts, and how human behavior fits into them. In my post, The 3 AM Problem, I explain some ways we can help our cats make this adjustment to mesh more smoothly with human needs.
their routines
Cats have patterns in their days and nights, and are motivated to mesh them with ours as much as they can. Some of that time is spent monitoring the environment, and they don’t have to be all the way awake to do that.
Whenever we are home, we can see the patterns. Olwyn and Tristan like the bed, Mithy likes under the bed, while Reverend Jim parks himself on the back of the couch, near his favorite window. We should keep track of all their favorite Spots.
I make a point of learning where they like to be in plain sight, and also where they hide. In case of some kind of emergency, I need to know where they will scamper to, and where I can retrieve them if necessary. Olwyn once missed her rabies shot from the home visit vet because she hid so well. RJ is a master at cramming his bulk into unlikely places if the carrier gets taken down from its place. (So I do it early.)
Humans have a tendency to “task switch” with their energy handling. We sleep in one long stretch, ramp up fast in the mornings, have a long period of more-or-less alertness, and then a calming down period before we sleep.
Cats are different. They have a couple of deep sleep periods, set times of catnapping and observation, and then will seek opportunities to recreate their hunting routines. Their instincts don’t stop operating just because they have landed a position as our companion. These cycles of rest and activity have kept them alive for millenia. We can’t shut them down without changing the fundamental nature of the cat.
Once we have our friendship partnership working, we can see how well it works. For both of us.
10 Small Ways to Create Brighter, More Inspiring Days
Small habits can create significant benefits. For instance, even though I’m often bleary-eyed as I get up, writing before the sun rises, in a still, quiet house, energizes and inspires me. Listening to music often does the same. These small changes have shifted my perspective and the tone for the rest of the day.
Sometimes, we think we need to overhaul our days and our lives in order to feel more satisfied and uplifted. We want to burn it all down and start fresh. But really the smallest activities can do wonders for us.
Below are 10 ways to make your days more nourishing, illuminating, inspiring and uplifting.
1. Bake bread.
At the beginning of 2017 writer and speaker Amanda Viviers set an intention to learn something that had zero to do with technology. Enter sourdough bread-making. “Over the last season of taking my hands away from my phone, learning a new skill, immersing my heart and life in something so grounding has been an amazing discovery. I’m now somewhat obsessed with my sourdough starter and the endless knowledge found from starting again…So much of our world thrives on immediate gratification. Taking the time to let the bread prove mirrors our internal need for space and reflection.”
Baking bread might not interest you. If it doesn’t, consider something else you can do with your hands, and without your phone, something else with a slower pace and some built-in waiting.
2. Compliment a loved one every day.
“We can get too caught up in what the people around us are not doing, or the mistakes they are making, or where they are not meeting our needs,” said Rebecca Ray, a clinical psychologist, writer and founder of Happi Habits. Which leads us to take them for granted, and gloss over who they are and the thoughtful gestures they do extend.
Compliment your loved one’s kindness and compassion. Compliment their sense of humor. Compliment their smile and endless enthusiasm. Compliment their work ethic. Compliment their ability to listen, and stay in the moment. “Consciously celebrating those we love deepens our connectedness and reminds us how lucky we are to have love in our life,” Ray said.
3. Write about what went well.
Psychologist Nicole Archer, Psy.D, suggested this exercise, which comes from Martin Seligman’s book Flourish. He recommends setting aside 5 to 10 minutes every night for 3 weeks to write down three (big or small) things that went well and why they went well.
For instance, according to Archer, you might write down: “I met my best friend for coffee,” and “Our friendship is really important to us so we made the time to get together; also, I love cappuccinos.”
4. Surround yourself with inspiration and positivity.
What inspires you? What soothes and refreshes you? What energizes you? Reflect on these questions, and experiment with the answers. For instance, you might put up quotes around your home that remind you of your values and what you want to focus on. You might start reading encouraging or heartwarming books.
You might start “putting some fresh flowers in the bedroom or on the kitchen table [and] having spaces that are cleared and uncluttered, so there’s literally some breathing space for mind, body, heart and spirit,” said Lynda Monk, MSW, RSW, CPCC, the director of both the International Association for Journal Writing and Creative Wellness, specializing in the healing and transformational power of writing.
In other words, you create an “environment that supports positive feelings,” Monk said.
5. Make meal-time into an experience.
Writer and communication expert Monica Kade suggested eating slowly and savoring each bite you take. What flavors and textures do you notice? What does each bite smell like? Does the scent shift with different bites? Reflect further on how you feel as you eat your meal, and whether you’re enjoying it, she said.
“We want our meals to nourish and inspire us, and if that’s not the way you feel when you eat your food, maybe it’s time to revisit what you are eating,” Kade said.
6. Take regular breaks to center yourself.
Psychologist Kristi Van Sickle, Psy.D, suggested sitting down, taking a deep breath and noticing: five things you can see; four things you can touch; three things you can hear; two things you can smell; and one thing you can taste or like the taste of.
7. Handwrite a thoughtful letter, card or quick note.
“We have the power to impact people’s lives in the grandest way through the most smallest gesture,” Kade said. Mail your loved one a sweet letter, or slip it into their lunchbox or wallet or even inside their shoe, she said.
“Sharing what you love about someone, how you appreciate them or just wishing them a beautiful day in the non-traditional way allows you to express more love and kindness into the world and into that person’s life.”
Van Sickle suggested doing any kind thing for others. Just think of anything that makes your day brighter when others do it for you, she said. This might be anything from holding the door to giving a hug to dropping off a home-cooked meal.
8. Read fiction.
Viviers tends to pick books from the self-help section of her library. However, she’s set an intention to pick more fiction instead. “[W]hen I spend the last few minutes before I fall asleep telling myself things that I should try, or should implement or should do, I go to sleep thinking of my lack, rather than my amazing abundance.”
However, reading fiction inspires her toward change, instead of making her feel stuck in obligation, she said. (By the way, her recent fictional favorite is Wonder by RJ Palacio.)
9. Try a technology Sabbath.
“A lot of my work is online, my overseas family communicate online and I love to engage in positive communities there,” Viviers said. However, she also finds herself quickly trapped in a web of comparison. “As a stay-at-home mum, I swing from being super happy in the flexibility of my life, then I see what other people are doing and question everything.” Which is why Viviers has started venturing outside and leaving her phone at home.
Ray also stressed the importance of breathing fresh air every day, and reconnecting with nature (and ourselves). You can even start paying closer attention to your natural surroundings. What does the sky look like today? How has the tree in front of your office building changed this week? What do you feel as you breathe in the smell of grass or snow or rain?
You might pick one day each week to be without your phone, and focus on meaningful moments, such as time with family and friends, Viviers said. Overall, she encourages us to focus less on shopping, rushing, consuming, working and being in noise and to focus more on cultivating space, resting, creating, being in silence and playing.
10. Find one activity to help you express yourself.
“Creative self-expression is a gift we give ourselves, it breathes life into life and offers a positive ripple effect of good energy out into the world around us,” Monk said. For instance, you might express yourself through writing, dancing, painting, gardening, sculpting or collage-making, she said.
Explore and experiment with the above suggestions. Maybe none of these ideas interest you or appeal to you. If so, I hope they inspire you to take a closer look at your days and find what does.
