Using An Assessment Matrix With Your Business How To Use It
An assessment matrix is a tool that can be used by a project manager to easily determine the level of risk associated with a project as a whole. With this matrix, you will be able to quickly identify which projects are in need of more attention, which ones are going well, and how much your overall risk exposure is for each project as a whole. The purpose of this article is to show you how to use a risk matrix in your business so that you are able to make better decisions about what projects to pursue next and what to avoid.
What is a risk assessment matrix, and what is its purpose?
An assessment matrix is a way of organizing risk in a way that is easy to understand. The idea is also to prioritize the issues as well as determine what needs to be done in order to resolve them. The purpose of a risk assessment matrix is to help identify the risks in your project, so that you can plan accordingly and mitigate them as much as possible.
Using a matrix of risk assessment, what can I do with it?
In order to be able to identify and prioritise the risks within your business, it is critical that you use a hazard risk assessment matrix. In addition, you can use it to assess them, take actions to mitigate them, and measure your progress over time as a result of them.
Identifying risks for new projects and determining whether they are acceptable
In assessing the risks that may arise for new projects, it's important that you take the following into consideration
The identification of the risks is the first step
It would be advisable to write down all of these potential problems if that is the case.
Determine how likely each risk is by assessing the likelihood. It is best to assign numbers to each risk based on a scale from 1-10, where 1 represents low probability and impact, and 10 represents high probability and impact. Note that there is no right or wrong answer when assigning numbers here.
An example of a matrix for risk assessment
The purpose of a risk assessment matrix is to identify and evaluate the risks associated with a project. If used as part of the overall risk management process, or alone as a stand-alone tool, it can provide a multitude of benefits. Using engineering risk assessment matrix will help you to identify, prioritize and control your risks based on their likelihood of occurrence, impact and controllability. By using the risk matrix, you will be able to determine where your time and energy should be spent. As a result, you can identify the areas in your business where you are exposed to the greatest risk as well as those areas that offer the best chance for success.

also - I know this is secondary to the abuse that actually materialised for gaiman's victims, but I've seen enough other secondary concerns being aired that I think this one needs doing too:
Talking about the gaiman allegations in a way that treats 'fans' and 'victims' as entirely separate, siloed categories is common but supremely unhelpful. Some of his victims were fans that he met at signings. That alone means there's no clear categories, however much you might want it.
But the additional point is - Well, some of his victims were fans who liked him enough to go to signings. All of his victims seem to have been young women. There's quite a lot of people who've been fans of his work and identified as a young woman at the same point in their lives.
There is SO much disdain for the fans who have been trying to process all this stuff on a personal level, even to the extent of insinuating that personal processing is an immoral thing to do in this case. But I feel like there is basically ZERO acknowledgement, so far, that for anyone who is or has been a gaiman fan and a young woman at the same time - processing all this may well include processing the knowledge that he would likely have viewed/assessed them as a potential victim, had they met. And some of them did meet him!
That's not nothing to have to come to terms with about someone you previously looked up to, and it's not something you can easily ignore, even for the noblest of reasons!
#Neil gaiman#cw rape#cw assault#cw sa#good omens#the sandman#dead boy detectives#also tbf although I do meet both those criteria and this has definitely been part of my own processing#I am self aware enough to know that I personally would never have been especially at risk in this situation#because he definitely seems to have taken to heart the idea of 'if you're famous hot 20 year olds will always want to sleep with you'#and like. that ain't me and it wasn't when I was 20. I am not conventionally attractive#but I know that for other people this is going to be a much more significant part of things#like for plenty of people awareness of their attractiveness comes partly through being harassed#and if that is something someone's already got going on then it feels as though that could interact with this in some very gnarly ways#but also the knowledge of like. looking up to someone who cultivated an admirable persona#and then learning that they would likely not have even done you the courtesy of regarding you with indifference#as would be their prerogative#but that their opinion/assessment of you in turn would've likely boiled down to 'is this person hot enough to use for my pleasure'#that is NOT a pleasant thing to have to work through in your head and I'm not surprised that a lot of fans are feeling personally shitty

one of the fun things about playing bg3 is imagining everyone else in the game socially responding to how my party tends to enter a room, take literally everything not nailed down (including any and all rotting food nearby) and only then do we bother to start a conversation
#pov you are a baldur’s gate npc and my party has just entered your home/shop/creepy cave hiding spot#now you have to sit there quietly while a pack of marauding adventurers assesses what they can take without risking jail#we will not speak to you during this process. probably astarion is making judgemental comments about each theft#finally once we finish taking everything we possibly can THEN the hello. also we will p pickpocket you after this.

If you work in information security you too can study the world’s most boring, obvious diagrams
#oh I need to assess risks before I decide what to do about them???#amazing#don’t get me wrong#i got into this field because flowcharts and other node-graphs are my favorite way to express information#But I have been reading 30+ pages about how risk management is all about managing risk#also there’s no entry point into this graph#help im trapped in a risk management process and there’s no way out#the Minotaur’s labyrinth except it’s just a 9-5 desk job#wait that’s just called being alive#hmm#actually they should show this diagram during sex ed

2025 Books: Sweep of Stars
I really really want to like this book. The story is interesting! The telling feels awkward though. And it is one of those things if I'm not sure if it's because it's from a style tradition that I'm not familiar with, or if it's just. Not that great of a book.
Basic idea is that it's a sci-fi book focusing on a relatively new community known as Muungano as they try to hold onto their ideals during a bit of a succession crisis. This is done through various viewpoints, people directly and indirectly involved in choosing new leadership, people trying to hold on and people trying to change things.
The execution of it is...... awkward, to my eyes.
So first off this book is only 350 pages long. And it has more than five PoV characters. Most are told in third-person limited but one is in second person, one in first, and one in first person plural (character using "we" or "us" for himself).
That makes it difficult to get any sense of depth to any of them. Which is especially frustrating because we have good ideas and set ups between them. Like:
This is the trouble with knowing one another so well: we risk being caught up in one another's petty dramas despite our best efforts.
That is a mentor picking up on their student feeling frustrated as someone else enters the room. Which could have led to some interesting stuff about how to get everyone agreeing to work towards the same goal, but all three characters basically head in different directions and don't interact again. Or:
"Barely." Yahya let the word bite deep and the silence that followed take root.
A husband talking to his estranged wife as their son is succumbing to illness, and her having to put her job duties ahead of her familial ones. That would be amazing to dig into, and it does inform much of Stacia's narration, but I feel like we don't get time to sit in the emotion of it.
Which you know, these multiple PoVs could work, if we had more interaction. See these two:
There was a story she needed to construct, to tell, to maybe even believe. One that would reach fruition only with the telling.
I dive back in, not allowing time for his ideas to land, much less take root and bloom.
Those are fascinating ways to come at conversations, thinking about them organically. But most of our characters wind up very isolated from each other, on different ships or planets, and it feels like there's very few group scenes to take advantage of the messiness that would come with the book making us sympathize with various characters.
Unless they're all supposed to be different aspects of Muungano as a whole as character, but that doesn't quite hold up to scrutiny because there's also a couple of characters who would be group viewpoints (an AI that is partitioned so everyone can connect with it, and a gal with cyborg stuff going on so that she can read data signals coming and going) but neither of them get a direct PoV.
The story has an interesting chapter-to-chapter pacing that I liked, where something will happen at the end of one chapter, we'll switch PoVs, and the second PoV character hears about the event from the end of the previous one midway through their own stuff. But it also suffers from very little interaction. Everything is happening because of one event, one leader dying, but any other cause and effect feels very... abstracted? The pacing within scenes can be hard to follow too. Either dialogue is broken up with a line of narration, that is treated as a separate paragraph, so it's unclear who is speaking when the dialogue starts back up. Or we have events A B C happen, and we don't actually get the 3 part of event B. Especially with about a third of the book being action, I could not follow the details of what was happening.
The worldbuilding is mostly nice but parts of it leave me a bit confused. Mostly character timeline things? They mention that people live a while longer than they do irl currently, but not how much more- like, what is considered old now? What is considered young? One of our characters is just going through a ceremony to get an adult chosen name for herself, but we don't know if she's a teenager or in her 20s or in her 30s. I would've guessed 20s, except her childhood friend is old enough to have done childhood friend things, run off to (college?), and now has a child of her own who is presumably in his teens based on his plot. Which would imply they're both in their 30s, which is fine, except I don't know if I should be reading that as a new normal for adolescence or if Amachi is supposed to be read as too immature. And said childhood friend's husband is an "older man" but we don't know how old here- like, should we be thinking childhood friend got taken advantage of, or just that there must be a funny story to how she met her husband? I don't know! And that makes it hard to relate to things.
Also except for pronoun differences, all the characters talk the same. I could pick out three of the 15ish characters based on their word choices alone, everyone else is kind of interchangeable.
I will not be picking up the sequels to this specifically but I'd be willing to give the author another try.
#literary kat#sweep of stars#books read 2025#like the characters all sounding the same really bugs me#if you're gonna write a space opera at least have some variety#or maybe doc's writing has just spoiled me#eta i would absolutely read a book that's just about whatever Stacia and Yahya have going on#or about all the internal calculus Maulana is doing#about respecting the routes others are taking (supposedly)#while also choosing to be the one making the harsh choice#and how that whole process is informed by him being the security head specifically#so he's IN IT about all the risk assessments and such#that everyone else gets the privilege to be abstracted from

Hi hi I just found your blog like an hour ago and I’ve been scrolling and am obsessed with the way you write for the l&ds!! ❤️❤️ if you don’t mind I love a little angst and was wondering if you could write the boys reacting to MC showing up at their doorstep heavily injured from like a fight with a wanderer.
Oh my gosh thank you!!! And I don't mind at all, my friends make fun of me for how much I enjoy hurt/comfort and angst :'D Thank you for the request!
LaDS men react to you appearing on their doorstep, injured and bleeding
Xavier -
If you end up at his door, it's more than likely because your unconscious decided to hit the button for his floor rather than your own. You just wanted to get home, not bother anyone, but he's stood right there. Having just come home from grabbing a late night snack from a nearby convenience store, you stumbled out of the elevator right as he's unlocking his front door.
He drops his keys and his bag.
It's a good thing too, because your legs gave out right then, so it's much better for him to catch you if his arms are free.
He's calling your name, and while you're still conscious, you're not really processing anything anymore. You're in too much shock, and you've lost too much blood by now.
He'll get the door unlocked and rush you inside his apartment, setting you down on his couch as he runs for a first aid kit, calling the association for emergency services while he does so.
"You're going to be okay. I promise. Just continue to breathe, alright?"
Xavier doesn't know if he's saying that to comfort you or himself, but he also isn't stopping to think about it, as he rapidly administers first aid to your wounds to at least slow the bleeding until help can arrive.
It's three in the morning but he's wide awake sitting next to your bed at the hospital, something unnatural for someone so sleep deprived usually.
He can't bring himself to shut his eyes though.
It's not work the risk.
Not until you wake up first.
Zayne -
It's like his brain splits into two the moment that he sees you standing there.
One side is his medical knowledge rushing forward as he moves to catch you as your feet stumble beneath you, trying to impossibly assess the extent of the damage before even getting to see it all. It's the half that's taking you to his kitchen table, because it's the easiest workspace for him right now. The one that's pulling out his doctor's bag from the closet in the hall, and the first aid kit from the cupboard in the kitchen as he cuts your shirt open.
The other side?
Oh honey, his heart is breaking.
If you think there's a day at work where he doesn't pray to any existent or nonexistent god that he doesn't see you today, spread out on a gurney or operating table without warning due to your unconscious state, then you'd be painfully wrong.
It's amazing how well he works while panicking on the inside, his skilled hands patching your wounds after meticulous sterilization, any sutures needed placed perfectly even through your pained groans tugging at his heart.
He knows he needs to get you to the hospital, even though he's taken good care of you in his own home. But he needs to sink to the floor for a minute, his back dragging against the wall as he heaves a deep sigh. It's a heavy toll feeling the stick of the dried blood on his hands- your blood on his hands.
With all his knowledge, he knows you'll be okay. He knows he himself will be okay. But right now-
He's not.
Sylus -
The N109 zone is beyond dangerous, mostly due to the criminals and leeches lurking in the dark shadows, but there's also no shortage of Wanderers, including ones that have been genetically altered to be even worse than they normally were.
So when Sylus sees you stumbling at his doorstep, bloodied hand reaching for the knob as he glances at the camera feed, he's not sure he could say he's ever moved so fast in his life otherwise. "Sweetie-" He breathes, as he catches you, scooping you up and rushing you inside as quickly as he possibly can without aggravating your already extensive injuries.
Luke is already running for first aid, and Kieran is already contacting the doctor. Mephisto is shrieking in the hall as he follows Sylus to his bedroom, protesting the fact that Sylus had needed him for surveillance of a target today instead of watching you.
Sylus knows.
He knows this is his fault.
If he had had someone keeping an eye on you, this wouldn't have happened.
His eyes are glued to your barely conscious form in his arms, the guilt in the recesses of his heart digging deeper with every slather of red that painted your skin.
Sorry to say, you're going to have your work cut out for you when you wake up. It's going to take a lot of heavy lifting on your part to convince him that he's not at fault for what happened to you.
And you will be waking up.
Sylus will make sure of that.
Rafayel -
Don't make his nightmares a reality.
Not again.
He's catching you before you can even begin to sway, and he'll be lucky if he remembers to shut the door behind him, his body melding against yours as he picks you up and runs down to his car.
"No, no no no. You stay awake, cutie."
He's definitely breaking at least a dozen laws just trying to get you to Akso hospital as quickly as he can. His mind is racing as fast as his car is moving down the streets, wondering what could have happened to you, what he should be doing right now, if he should have administered first aid to you before taking off-
But he's there so fast, it would have been nearly identical on the clock regardless of him still choosing to rush you to the hospital, or run to get and administer first aid for you from within his home.
He's there until you wake up- wide awake no matter how long it takes. It could be minutes, hours, days- he can't sleep. The image of you dying before him- the image of you standing on his doorstep as well- etched on the back of his eyelids every time he tried to close his eyes.
He talks to you even when you're not awake, stroking your hand, your cheek, the side of your neck- trying to make sure you're as comfortable as he can make you.
When you wake up again, he has to hold himself back with everything in him from squeezing you too tightly. He doesn't want to burst your stitches or harm you, but his body and arms are all-encompassing on you as he hugs you firmly, his face buried in the crook of your neck.
He really doesn't need you to see him cry.

Earlier I wanted to eat something that was may contain soy and I didn't want to wait. But I was highly suspicious of it not containing soy in the first place (had chocolate on it. Chocolate always has soy) and I had no epi pen with me. So I ate it in the supermarket rationalising that there was a pharmacy next door and they'd have one should I begin to die in the supermarket. Anyway it was fine. No soy in the ice cream. However when I walked past the pharmacy it was closed and like. Had a big metal shutter on it and I felt a bit like when you don't see a car coming till its too late but they do see you and stop just in time
#Everything is may contain#before i got a serious allergy i was like. id never take my life in my hands like that#now. i even eat stuff that says 'not for allergy sufferers' (that one means they don't clean their machines lol. i just cross my fingers#that they produced whatever i was eating last and the soy ended up in the other stuff. and make sure I've got pirotin and my epi pen at hand#the thing is about a soy allergy is it really desensitises you to the severity of a may contain as you learn pretty early on you can:#either start milling your own flour and become completely self sufficient. or. starve#or. you can take your life in to your hands occasionally#cause there's so much you straight up can't eat. 70% of processed food has soy. if you add in the may contains. you are gonna starve#anyway the only problem with this is ppl see you being casual and assume it's not a serious allergy and it's like. no#i react to trace amounts. yeah this has happened multiple times. no. i get full blown anaphylaxis. yeah lol could have died#skip out on eating a croissant? i don't fucking think so. there are things in life worth dying for#i am careful with some stuff. it's just like. a risk assessment. i tend to not eat out much as i can eat at home and just grab a drink#when the ppl im with eat. but yeah. food im eating at home? I'm less careful with that#you can kinda tell which stuff is very likely to be contaminated and which is less so. based on like the processes its undergone

Would the Bats be unfazed cause they can do a head count and see everyone is accounted for and assume the criminals are bluffing?
Or would they know to be concerned that the goons picked up a random civilian kid by mistake?
Danny gets taken as hostage mistaken for a Batfamily member.
The criminals keep trying to have evidence of any sort for the Wayne’s but they keep getting tech issues and video/photo corruption any time they try to have photographic proof of their hostage.
#Like I imagine they double check either way#But especially if it's patrol time#I imagine there's a certain amount of risk assessment#That is - how credible even is this threat#If the bad guys can't even produce evidence they have a person at all#The Bats aren't gonna devote too much manpower into the situation#When they could be focusing on the people they know are actively in danger#I hope that thought process makes sense
