Rules: Make a poll of your favourite female characters (no limits - as many or as little as you want) and see which your followers like the most!
tagged by @grapecaseschoices Thank you! I started thinking of my favorite female characters and then I couldn't stop. I tried not to put too many obscure women, but some of these ladies I just can't leave out (I did actually weed out most of the more niche ladies and put them in the tags)
tagging: @littlemissbumblebee, @alexeizzo, @agentark, @thisghosts-obsessions-again, @beatrizamante, @renru
please tell me your favorite girls in poll format

HORROR’S NEXT TOP GENDER FINALS: Ellen Ripley (Alien) vs. The Xenomorph (Alien)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PROPAGANDA FOR RIPLEY:
"The character of Ripley was originally meant to be played by a man. also pleaseeee if this competition is a bunch of white guys im going to lose it"
"She is so incredibly butch and cool, she has that butch mechanic thing going on"
"The character was originally going to be a man but Sigourney Weaver killed it at the audition so she was hired and not a single line of dialogue was changed. Also, overall, most of the films leave an implication that gender is not very important to the point of being a practically genderless society. Everyone in these movies is too stressed and too busy working under late, late stage capitalism. My point is that Ellen Ripley is definitely (however unintentionally) agender."
PROPAGANDA FOR THE XENOMORPH:
"Is this a "character"? It's a whole species technically but I think it should count. Anyway I know people like to think about them as female and therefore Girlbosses or whatever and I think that's fine, have fun. However, they are obviously an alien species that doesn't adhere to human ideas of gender- or fit into ideas of binary sex if we wanted to think that way, since they reproduce very differently. I am also thinking about how their (very iconic) design incorporates a lot of sexual elements/imagery, and in that way too they mix-and-match and play around with gender. And again they are just so iconic."

The fact that the Nostromo's computer is called Mother. The fact that xenomorphs are born from an unwanted pregnancy. The fact that Ripley is a mother who'll never see her child again. The fact that Newt is a child who'll never see her mother again. The fact that they find solace in each other. The fact that the xenomorph queen is a vengeful mother. The fact that Ripley 8 is nicknamed Mother. The fact that the newborn kills it's mother. The fact that Ripley 8 kills it. The fact that Amanda Ripley stumbles into the same fate as her mother while looking for her.

I think about Alien a lot, especially recently. This evening I’m specifically thinking about how in the Alien Isolation novel (and maybe other Alien novels) it mentions how Ripley would send video messages to Amanda before the freighter ship would lose contact, and how one of those times a message was from Dallas.
It made me think about the crew a lot. Like, did Amanda ever ask about them? Did any of them sometimes stop by while Ripley was talking to Amanda on the video message just to check in and say hi as another parental/family friend figure? Did Ripley ever tell the crew about her daughter? Did any of the other Nostromo Crew have kids?
Would Amanda have met the other crew member’s kids at some point in her childhood or teenage years and have no clue they were related to people who her mom worked with? If she did know them, would they have become a close friend group just trying to figure out what happened to their parents? Did the others try to stay optimistic that maybe their parents were okay? Did they give up on them after a few years?
I don’t know, but I think it’s interesting to ponder.

HORROR'S NEXT TOP GENDER, ROUND THREE MATCH FOUR: Ellen Ripley (Alien) vs. Herbert West (Reanimator)

PROPAGANDA FOR RIPLEY:

"She is so incredibly butch and cool, she has that butch mechanic thing going on"

PROPAGANDA FOR HERBERT:
"His short king stature and intimate knowledge of human anatomy all point to a guy who did his own top surgery in the backyard at age fifteen"
"The entirety of the speech in bride of reanimator about defying god sums it up."
"He's a mad scientist so automatically transgender. Also he reanimates corpses. With glowing green goo (testosterone allegory). Also he has autism in his eyes and homosexuality in his heart"

I watched Alien Romulus and really enjoyed it, especially the references to the first Alien movie, which gave me the idea that a YCH with this theme could be pretty cool.
In this YCH, your fursona can be one of the crew members of the Nostromo, fighting for her/his life. The design will be inspired by Ellen Ripley. The background will be one of the claustrophobic corridors of the Nostromo, with a lurking xenomorph (still in the production phase). In the box will be Jonesy the cat, but I can change it to any other pet of your choice for an additional $10.
Male characters can also be portrayed. For characters that require a redesign of the outfit, there will be an additional $5 charge.
Wings will cost an extra $5.
Any type of tail or hairstyle is allowed at no additional cost.
Let me know in the comments or via direct message if you’d like a slot.
Please note: I will start working on these YCH commissions in the second half of October.
