Taste: thick cup of bitter chocolate. The bitterness is bracing but it mellows through the infusions. It’s enjoyable but challenging. A good way to wake up

1994 Xiaguan Tuo | Yeeontea | Ripe Puerh

Let me say, I love aged ripe puerh. Especially stuff like this from Yeeon. I don’t know if it’s the way they used to prepare and store shou back in the day, or if it’s simply the age. This tea is incredibly smooth and clean. Nice oily mouth feel, it’s a very easy tea. A lot of Yeeon’s aged ripes have this same quality — the leaves can take a good beating. Liquor color is nice, dark, and red with a very wet, woody, herbal aroma. The tea smells like the wet pile taste would be too much, but that flavor is nonexistent especially at this age. This leaf soup is an incredibly easy drink, bound to be enjoyed by most shou lovers. I do almost wish the flavor had been stronger, but you are always free to overleaf.

Cinnamon Vanilla Chai served in a handleless tall stoneware mug because who bothers with handles anyway? All they do is slow you down and if you burn your fingers picking it up it's your fault for not wearing gloves.

Bold but sweet. Can be quite bitter if over-brewed. Pleasant aroma and caramel colouring for a warm and comforting blend of black tea, spices, and natural vanilla flavoring. Perfect for warming during colder months.

Edwin:

Java Masala Chai served in a sensible ceramic mug with a slightly chipped saucer. The inside bottom of the mug has a sassy comment that changes depending on the day of the year.

A blend of black tea, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, black pepper, and ginger, with a twist of added coffee because just like coffee Edwin is an acquired taste and yet millions around the world are addicted.

Prepare a cup of your favorite milk, add a generous teaspoon and let it simmer for 10 minutes - careful contents will be hot and if you burn yourself it may mock you for your low pain tolerance.

Crystal:

Immortal Emperor Puer tea cake

Fantastic tea but you have to break into it first. Brew in a ceramic pot then transfer to a dreaming tree travel mug for a quick get away.

A Ripe Shou Puer that is a dark, opulent infusion mirroring the richness of ancient traditions. Made of tightly compressed leaves, aged to perfection, it exudes an earthy allure of walnut, vanilla, and aged oak that transcends time.

I tried this 2005 Mengku Tea Factory Gongting ripe pu-erh cake today. These cakes have been stored in my warehouse in Vancouver since 2005. The tea has developed a unique earthy and plumy flavor due to the very dry environment. Enjoying about 5Gs of Puerh Junky’s Mincemeat (which is now out of stock). It’s a 7536 from 2007. I reviewed this one a while back, early in my tea journey, and I still like it! Maybe even more so now. I’m on spring break right now, enjoying the 10 days-ish away from school.
