she could survive without gale. she had done it before. she kept her family from starving after her father's death all on her own.

but without peeta she would not be alive.

gale was so caught up in playing hero that he wasn't able to see katniss for who she was anymore.

katniss was not the same after she got out of the arena.

specifically after the victor's tour when gale learned what was happening in the other districts, the effect katniss had on the nation, i think that was the moment it all changed for him.

katniss was no longer katniss. she was the mockingjay.

from then on, he saw her less and less as the girl he met in the woods and more as the girls who sparked a revolution.

for katniss, it wasn’t just about her and her family she felt the need to protect anymore. it was all of panem. and because of her they were in danger. because of her they were dying. because of her they were saw hope.

gale expected more of her than she should have had to give.

what katniss needed was someone to just be there for her and let her make her own decisions. she was tired of being used and manipulated, tired of people looking to her for hope, tired of others telling her what she should be.

she was tired of being a piece in their games.

the only people who understood that were the other victors (peeta, haymitch, finnick, johanna), and those who showed her empathy and didn’t not judge her for her actions (prim, cinna, boggs, her mother to a degree).

these people saw katniss as herself, as a person.

gale stopped being able to do that for her.

he began to see her as something she never wanted to be.

he got caught up in his ideals and rarely chose to see her side. he showed her many times over that he could be just as cruel and calculating as the capitol. he never had a problem stooping to that level of thinking.

the games.

you can hunt. not people. how different can it be?

the nut.

trap the enemy inside, cut off from supplies. you risk killing everyone inside.

the capitol bombing.

were they yours? i don’t know.

his ideals were always more important to him than the people themselves. deaths were merely sacrifices for the greater good.

the cost never mattered until it was prim.

until his actions resulted in the loss of life. directly. personally.

and it is always personal.

peeta acknowledged this. he understood it.

it costs a lot more than your life… it costs everything you are.

gale was out for revenge for everything the capitol had done.

i think katniss wanted revenge for a while. but her actions were always solely based on survival, not revenge because it is costly and the score would never be even.

she always hesitated before a kill. it was just her nature.

she said it in district 2, before she was shot, after gale’s plan to cause avalanches in the mountain effectively entombed everyone inside.

she said it to snow before the tour.

she never wanted an uprising.

she never wanted anyone to lose their life because of her. because of what she represented.

but it did happen and she has to deal with that pain.

and thats why it was always peeta.

When V’s after ending was released I remember I made this text post about it going over why I think any attempts to go deeper into her character fall flat. Since Saeran/Ray’s after ending is going to be released soon I can’t help but worry a little bit. Rika, as far as I can remember, was a huge part of his route. Considering the revelations with Rika Behind eye do not know how this will go and if they will attempt to incorporate that into the after ending. I will hope for the best, but I cannot expect much. I just gotta update that Rika rant a little bit.

They honestly could have created Rika Route alongside V and Saeran if they wanted to make her a well received villain. Like throughout the original routes we are told how she is kind and charming and such with a few visual novel modes sprinkled that go into flashbacks with her interactions with other characters, but what better way to show and help the player experience these characteristics than through a route? A route focused on Rika could have gone deeper into her established backstory pre-Rika Behind, go into her motivations, what led her into her ideology, and a possible redemption(?). I really do not know about y’all, but Rika in the original routes (minus 707) felt like merely background information and plot device. Then the 707 after endings occurred, with this bland character all of a sudden EVIL (but they’re going to try to tack on mental illness and tragic backstory to explain her actions despite how bad and lazy of a decision that is). The V+Ray routes doubled down on this portrayal. And then Rika Behind. . . . . . The Mika addition just neuters Rika’s character in my opinion, and that is just annoying. It just looks like they could not commit to properly fleshing out Rika as a villain and decided to tack on Mika. 

Rika is a cult leader. Cult leaders are known for being charming, intelligent, and appearing to be passionate about a cause and attempts at showing this for Rika was not done well imo. They could have easilyyyy created a well-rounded villain out of Rika and a Rika route would have been perfect for that. This is rambly, but I’m pissed at the wasted potential.

Thank you all so so so much for all your support in reaching this milestone! It sounds silly, but I don't even know what to say, this is such a huge achievement. This started out as a silly little challenge to myself after seeing the same person do something for Rika on the subreddit. I was so sure we would get a Mifuyu New Years alt a month in (I was so foolish...), then a Doppel alt when Kyoko came out, then a swimsuit alt. I may have been wrong three times, but I am nothing if not committed to the bit.

I'd like to give some thanks, now. First off, thanks to my best friend, @irohacchan for drawing today's Mifuyu. You did a great job, bestie! She's so pretty ;-;

Secondly, thanks to @thots-n-prayers-2137 for providing me with all the manga scans for my Mifus. I think at least 1/3 of my Mifus have to have come from you. You're a real MVP.

this is exactly why i enjoy the series so much!!

i’m so tired of romance taking prevalence in media and society in general. frankly, i think romance is overrated. i think friendships and familial relationships are just as important, and it’s important to have a variety of those relationships, not just one!

i also think the series makes a point to show that crushes and romantic relationships come and go but friendship will last. and even with the main romance of mamoru and usagi, the show makes a point to tell the audience they become family in the future and with chibi-usa’s presence they form a family unit in the present. its more than just being destined to be together. mamoru also wasn’t even usagi’s first crush on the show, they only became friends because she liked his friend. but i think the real friendship that developed between them is what makes the foundation of their relationship so good and believable. they bicker like friends and care for each other like a family and then there’s the spark of romance that is just the cherry on top.

all of the characters are dynamic and their relationships to each other are fleshed out really well, and i think that’s what makes sailor moon such a great show.

Just thinking about how in Sailor Moon, relationships are never put in a bullshit hierarchy. Familial relationships, romances, and friendships are portrayed as equally valuable, as we see them through their importance to Usagi. 

When Usagi gets together with Mamoru, her friendships with the Senshi never take a backseat. She still spends tons of time with them and it’s obvious she greatly cherishes her relationships with her friends. Mamoru himself never puts Usagi in a position where she has to choose between him and her friends. For fuck’s sake, he’s practically a cheerleader for the Senshi’s friendships in the 90s anime, where Tuxedo Mask delivers speeches about how awesome Sailor Moon and her friends are and how friendship is the best thing ever. 

Familial relationships get less of a spotlight as Usagi’s family gets less and less focus as the series goes on, but it’s still very clear that they mean a lot to her. Moreover, when Chibiusa, Usagi’s future daughter, is introduced, a lot of focus is given to her relationship with Usagi. 

It’s just so refreshing given that amatonormativity (a norm where tons of emphasis is placed on the importance of romantic relationships) is so prevalent in most cultures. Yes, Usagi’s romance with Mamoru is a big part of the series, but so are her friendships with the Senshi and her relationship with Chibiusa. It was so awesome of Naoko Takeuchi and the teams behind the various adaptations to defy the typical “romance comes before everything else” formula and portray Usagi and Mamoru’s romance as just one of many healthy, loving relationships in Usagi’s life.

White Day is only a few days away when you begin to notice Rika’s form is absent from your training sessions lately. There shouldn’t be any reason for this, at least not one you’re aware of. Your class celebrated Yuta’s birthday just two days ago, and both the curse and cursed seemed fine, great even. You decide it’s best to bring this up casually - Yuta was still so skittish and Rika would be able to hear whatever you said anyways. So while you lead Yuta through a yoga session, you ask, “How’s Rika?”

He flusters and falls from his side-plank variation pose. The band he was using as an aid tangles around his calf. You debate and decide to leave him. If you touched him now, he might spontaneously combust. That thought makes you giggle a little. You move to change to a position that meant you weren’t looking at him. Hopefully, that’s less pressure.

Yuta speaks up when you’re fully downward dog, leading you to believe your plan worked. “She’s fine, yeah, fine. Just uh - tired?” You nod but inwardly roll your eyes. You shift your hips in to move to upward facing dog and make eye contact again.

“Just checking. I miss her hanging out, you know?” It’s obvious Yuta just lied, curses don’t get tired, but it’s better to not call him out this time. You just have to hope it wasn’t anything you did. “I know you fell but at this point you’re just slacking. Get back on your mat,” you say, changing the topic to something safe.

You’re back in downward facing dog when the door slides open. A familiar voice drawls, “Why are you still working out, dummy? Forgot our plans?” You scramble to your feet.

“Gumi!” You rush to hug him despite his obvious distaste. “What time is it? Do I still have time to shower or will we be late?”

Your little brother snorts and pushes you away, “Please do, you smell. You have,” he checks his watch, “fifteen minutes.”

“Gumi! That’s not enough time!” You yell, already sprinting towards the showers at the back of the gym. Yuta pouts at how quickly you seemed to forget his presence. That face doesn’t escape Megumi.

“So, you like my idiot sister?”

“W-what! No, no no no, it’s not like that! She just helps t-train me and -!” Yuta knows he’s rambling but he can’t seem to stop talking.

“Whatever,” Megumi has better things to worry about than repressed hormones. He's known that Yuta had a crush on you since the first time he came to campus to train with you after Yuta arrived. Your classmate couldn’t stop staring and seemed disheartened by the fact that you called Megumi by a shortened version of his given name. He had pouted until Satoru showed up and made a spectacle of ‘Team Gojo’ being all together again. Like you three didn’t, at minimum, have a weekly dinner together.

“If you ever want to acknowledge them, you’ll have to get approved by Satoru.” Yuta feels like he also needs the approval of this boy, but he leaves that unsaid. Just nods dumbly. Probably a good thing he didn’t respond, because you barrel through the doors you disappeared from.

When you rush past him, Yuta gets a strong whiff of the floral scent he’s come to associate with you. Megumi laughs under his breath at the blissed out look. Your hair drips water onto your tee shirt and it’s clear you rushed. “Really, really sorry to dip, Yuta. Run through those stretches we did last week to cool down!” Your fingers distractedly pull your wet hair into a braid as you instruct him. “Oh! Tell Maki I won’t be at afternoon training, Satoru already knows and gave permission. Megumi, grab my duffel?” Already carrying it, he rolls his eyes. “I should be back tomorrow morning, but don’t count on it.”

“Wait, but why -?”

“Gotta dash. Bye, Yuta!” You run ahead of your brother, headed to your room to grab Tsumiki’s gifts. Megumi gives a nod and follows after you. Alone and without anyone around to judge, Yuta groans and buries his face into his yoga mat. God, why can’t he just be normal.

When he looks back up, Rika has taken your spot on your mat. You left in such a hurry, you didn’t even clean up. He’ll have to drop it off in your room. “Ya’ know, it’s not that I’m mad about you liking her,” she begins. “It’s just…. I know we can’t be together so I do want you to be happy. I just feel jealous. Especially since you got her that super fancy chocolate for White Day,” Rika finishes with a pout.

Yuta doesn’t really know how to reassure her. So he does what he promised when he was ten, and is just honest. “I’m here to learn how to let you go, Rika. Neither of us know how to do that yet. I can’t be in any kind of relationship until I learn. It wouldn’t be fair to either of you.”

Rika hums and picks at the corner of your mat. “Well. I think it’s more than just us two you’re worried about.”

“What?”

“Inumaki seems pretty interested in the both of you too. You may not see it, but all three of you are pretty smitten. It’s actually kind of gross.”

“That’s - he - no!” Rika just laughs and dissolves her form. Yuta, still flustered, continues to mutter as he collects the things you left and wipes down any used equipment. When he finally leaves, it’s just his luck he runs (literally) into Inumaki who looks unfairly handsome in a fitted tee and sweatpants. Even his markings are uncovered, which makes Yuta groan, tuck tail, and run away. Yuta can hear Rika laughing in his mind.

“Tuna mayo?” Inumaki tilts his head to the side but shrugs off the odd behavior.

From a few cities over, Yuta flushes at your words. Inumaki notices and kicks his foot. He’s laughing when he says, “Nori,” but Yuta can spot a faint pink over the hem of his collar too.

You turn around in the middle of the street when you hear a loud, “(y/n)-chan!” Satoru is speed-walking towards you, waving an arm that is covered in different shopping bags. His long legs have him beside you in a split second, even without the use of cursed energy. “Are you done yet? Nanami won’t even thank you properly you know. Why don’t you just get gifts for your precious Nii-chan?” He pouts and takes the two bags you’re carrying.

“One, it’s not your birthday. Two, you could buy anything you want already. Three, who's to say I didn’t already get you one?” You pull a box of macaroons out from one of the bags he took. Satoru moves to snatch it immediately but you put it behind your back. Of course, if he wanted, he’d just grab it, but your Nii-chan would never deny playing a game with you. “You can’t get it until we’re back on campus! I’m already tired and this is my bribe to go home early.”

“But (y/n)-chan,” he whines.

“Nu-uh. I promised a movie night with Toge and Yuta and I don’t wanna be late.” You realize too late you revealed too much, because your brother suddenly looks like a very successful cat.

“Why didn’t you just say so? I would never make my little sister late for her first date.”

You blush furiously, “Who says it’s my first?”

“It better be your first.”

“It’s not even a date,” you roll your eyes. “Neither like me like that, and if it was a date, wouldn’t one be a third-wheel?”

“Tricycles are pretty fun.” Your brother says casually. You roll your eyes again and add a gag for good measure. “Seriously, (y/n). You should know you have my full support to love anyone and everyone you want. Not that you need it, though. You’re a Gojo. We do as we please anyways.”

You tear up at his sincerity and throw your arms around your brother, or at least the best you can with his bags in the way. The two of you are frequently physically and verbally affectionate but not often in such a serious manner. You know there’s a deep love between you; for a long time, the two of you only had each other. Eventually, your family expanded to include Megumi and Tsumiki, but neither ever took the Gojo name. You and Satoru had a special bond. “Thank you,” you stutter around tears. You hope he understands it’s not just a thank you for the reassurance but a thank you for giving you such a life.

“Come on, no crying. You can’t go on your date with puffy eyes, you’ll scare both of them away.” He pats your head softly and just laughs when you punch him in the gut.
