An Ohio man has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for participating in the beating of an African-American man during racially charged 2017 protests in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Daniel Borden received a 20-year sentence Monday, with 16 years and two months suspended -- meaning he will serve just under four years for his role in the beating of DeAndre Harris in a parking garage during the

Unite the Right rally in August 2017.

In May, Borden entered an Alford plea to a charge of malicious wounding, acknowledging there was enough evidence to prove he was among the men who attacked Harris without admitting guilt, according to

CNN affiliate WVIR.

On Monday, Borden apologized to the people of Charlottesville and to Harris, who was not in court, the TV station reported. He told the judge he is not a bigot and expressed remorse for his actions.

The defendant was one of four men charged with the beating of Harris at the gathering of white nationalists and other far-right groups that culminated in the

death of Heather Heyer

when a man drove a car through a crowd of counterprotesters. A jury recommended last month that

her killer, James Fields, be sentenced to life in prison

The rally was originally planned as a protest over the city of Charlotte's decision to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from a park.

Project 2025 has been developed by radical right wing organizations - specifically The Heritage Foundation which was actively involved in the Trump administration and is funded by extremist right wing billionaires - to dismantle government agencies and/or privatize them by giving the Executive branch (President) limitless powers over them and civil service employees. And it doesn't stop there. It would eliminate many federal protections for labor unions, equal rights, environmental concerns, and bring to a halt any further federal government action on the Climate Crisis.

Leonard Leo is planning to use his wealth (which by the way was handed to him and not earned by him) to brainwash millions and turn the United States into a religious neo-fascist authoritarian society.  He and the other right-wing religious extremists insult liberals with lies and propaganda and have no intention of ever being an inclusive, free society.  He is intent on white male “Christian” dominance as the “savior” of our society.  Republicans are of course all for it and will do anything and everything to support this warped, destructive, delusional person. They need to stop using the label “Conservative” regarding him and the entire Republican party.  Leo and the Republican party are a threat to our free society and should be considered a domestic threat.
