Quillfire/Springload, trying to find a way to make it work with Springloads acid secretions and Quillfires quills?
“Stay still!” Springload hisses, his frame strained uncomfortably trying to not be poked.
“I’m trying, it’s not easy when you’re rubbing against me!” Quillfire squirms.
“Well, if you would just- Ow!” The brown decepticon’s writhing forces a spine into Springload’s servo plating.
“Sorry!”
There’s a long moment of the two staying silent. They both know that they’re not the most amazing fit for each other. This will always be difficult, wether they like it or not.
“Do you want to do something else…?”
“Could we watch one of those human movies?” Quillfire says hesitantly.
“Yeah. I’ll get it ready. I- I’d kiss you right now if-”
“I know.”

I only managed to watch some episodes of RiD15, but I still got a ship. Just amazing how it works sometimes. Did you end up having any ships? Mine was Thunderwoof, which is a painfully cute name.
I also ended up with Thunderwoof, but also Springfire (Quillload?) Those two have an interesting dynamic together and tbh i hadn't started shipping them until the RID-adopter did🥰

So an unexpected lore drop for the Robots in Disguise 2015 cast cropped up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Transformers series has an RPG game, though I have no idea if many actually play of it or even know if it.
Tumblr media
There’s three books so far.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The third one being the most recent, and a particular surprise that it’s heavily based on Beast Wars, Beast Machines and other series that have included beast characters like both RiDs.
One thing I find funny is the named Maximals are surprisingly small: Optimus Primal, Dinobot, Cheetor, Rattrap, Botanica, Silverbolt and BlackArachnia. The Predacons and Vehicons are much more robust, with Skold from IDW Beast Wars specifically mentioned as a Predacon. Maximal Nyx, as far as I can tell, isn’t mentioned, which is funny because she was treated as IDW BW’s mascot, but was pry the most forgettable character from it. Forgettable to the point she doesn’t appear to be acknowledged here.
What’s most surprising is Beast Machines in general being acknowledged since the struggles between the Maximals and Vehicons aren’t a popular idea to return to. Acknowledging a techno organic Cybertron is almost considered apocryphal to some, but with how increasingly Earth like Cybertron has become in modern stories, perhaps Hasbro is just more accepting of Cybertron’s inevitable evolution into a pseudo organic state.
The book starts out with Cheetor, post Beast Machines, speaking to a human colony on New Earth about the history of the Beast Wars he fought in and other Beast Wars he is aware of such as the events of RotB and RiD01.
Nightshade is listed as a lesser known beast Transformer, and going by the growing apathy towards EarthSpark and it continuing to be a rallying point in grifter spaces, I think that’s gonna remain that way unfortunately. Curiously, as Cheetor is the one that name drops Nightshade, I’m unsure if this is supposed to be the EarthSpark version, or retroactively this is a post BM Maximal version. Going by other chapters that seem to identify characters as belonging to G1/Beast Wars canon, it seems likely this Nightshade is a Maximal rather than a Terran.
Maximal and Predacon biology has never been definitively nailed down before, but this guidebook specifically declares that Maximals and Predacons evolved from Pretender technology and Micromaster technology, something ancillary media suggested before but never set it as hard fact.
Tumblr media
The next story features Simacore as part of a Decepticon think tank led by Shockwave, as they discuss what seems to be the modern versions of “Beast Mode” technologies.
Of particular note is what the animal Decepticons in RiD15 are retroactively labeled as: Hybridizors. Hybridizors are apparently a breed of Transformer that has an animal like Robot Mode that converts into a Vehicle Mode. It seems this evokes Fuzors from Beast Wars: Maximals and Predacons who transform into hybrid mutant animals like Silverbolt’s wolf with eagle wings and claws.
Mechanimals are also referenced, a term that’s cropped up in ancillary media that refers to Cybertron’s native fauna: the difference is it now specifically refers to fauna and Transformers who convert from humanoid Robot Modes to robotic Beast Modes like the Dinobots.
With this in mind, we now have two distinct races that make up the RiD15 Decepticons:
Hybridizors: Guys like Steeljaw, Clampdown, Ped, Bisk, Quilfire, Underbite, Scatterspike, Groundpounder, Simacore, RageByte & Springload. While not specified, presumably this also includes Cyclone & Torpedo Mini-Cons.
Mechanimals: Guys like Scowl, Grimlock, Nightstrike, Chop Shop, Filch, Saberhorn, Glowstrike, Scorponok, Scuzzard, Shadow Raker & Zizza.
The crash of the Alchemore is also an event that occurred in this G1/Beast Wars version of events, further solidifying these characters into the general mythos as accounted by Thunderhowl, based on the Cyberverse version funny enough. Thunderhowl does retroactively fit nicely as an RiD15 character, but his defining role in CV is serving Onyx Prime and getting trapped in alien crystals until the end of the Great War. He’s frankly an odd pick as the narrator of the third part of the book, when he’s not a remarkable character and to better fit with the Beast Machines theme, he could’ve been BM Nightscream or TFP Predaking looking at old data trax about Cybertronian history. Just a thought.
What makes the Hybridizor idea most interesting is the writers of the RPG book consulted with RiD15 staff writers to have Steeljaw and company fit in the RPG gameplay. I’m personally excited, since RiD is my favorite series, and getting new lore related to it by the staff is so cool. My only complaint is I kinda wish they thought of this name back then, as it probably would’ve saved a lot of headaches as to what the RiD15 Decepticons are supposed to be. Despite the show making it clear all the animal dudes are naturally occurring species on Cybertron, a lot of fans tended to view them as augmented experiments of Shockwave’s, similar to the Insecticons and Predacons. This does include the Dinobots, but because RiD also states Dinobots are a common reoccurring mechanimal on Cybertron, with RiD Grimlock, Scowl, Velocirazor and Tricerashot examples of this, it makes FoC Grimlock’s Dinobots retroactively bizarre, as why would Shockwave rebuild Grimlock’s unit into Earth Dinosaurs, when Earth Dinosaurs exist on Cybertron anyway? Works if you squint, my actuator.
Still the specific mention of Beast Mode tech does lean pretty heavily into the fan theory Steeljaw and co could’ve been experiments of Shockwave’s, so it’s now officially plausible even though I’m not personally a fan of that idea. Not everything needs to be Shockwave’s fault, I think we learned that the hard way in IDW.
This retroactive labeling is also interesting as the animal Decepticons came about by Hasbro kinda stumbling on it. They didn’t have a clear idea on what RiD’s theme would be so in play testing, they found kids liked to have the Autobot toys fight monster Decepticon looking toys, so that became the defining characteristic.
If you were to go back and rework it to have these Decepticons be a new breed of savage beast and turbo revving machine, equipped with a gimmick like the Energon Ignitors from Bumblebee or the Activator Mini-Cons RiD did use, I think that might’ve helped smooth things over better.

RID15 circus au(circus rivalry)
So, for this au Steeljaw's pack would have like a creepypasta/ creature feature circus deal going. Bee team genuinely wants the public to be happy, so a standard circus that the people love. (THIS IS ALL BASED OF A HUMAN FANTASY AU)
Bumblebee would have the wings of a wasp, with two more sets of small eyes and horns like his g1 self. Strongarm is a German Shepherd (anthropomorphic), Grimlock is a dinosaur hybrid, Drift and Jetstorm are oni, Slipstream is a human and Dragon born(lung), Sideswipe is a centaur yearling, Fixit is a serpent)
Steel jaw and Bumblebee are the ring masters, obv. Steel jaw would be very good at hypnotizing children with his voice.
Strongarm is a strongman, reference to that one episode where Fixit watches her lift something of a hundred or a few.
Sideswipe is the stunt man, another reference to where Jazz comes in and he talks about the biker gang jackets on TV. It's also just a very brash very sideswipe thing to do.
Grimlock is the clown, he's definitely clumsy enough and everyone can get a crack out of it.
Fixit was gonna be a clown, but I made him a magician. He's a tech wizard in the series, now he's just a wizard. Makes sense to me.
Drift is a tightrope walker. He would spin some sword tricks and do some skill stuff on the rope cause he just got that skill.
Slip+Jet are trapeze artists. They be fliers at spark, they'd make a good duo in both standard trapeze and flying.
Steeljaw's pack: (NOTE: Thunderhoof would be a centaur, Fracture would be a creature with spines on his back, a long whip like tail, and sharp teeth/claws. The rest would pretty much be furries with Rottweiler Underbite)
Thunderhoof is the circus horse(read bottom⏬) I could see him with lights and streamers prancing around with Fracture trick riding on his back.
Fracture is the jester. He would be like candy pop more like, with the black lines on the eye. He's hothic, don't even argue with that. He's also we'll equipped, with colorful fire, tricks, and such.
Divebomb + Airazor are the lion/tiger doing the hoops. Airazor is a spider, ik, but could still have the fuzzy neck thing and jump hoops with his cat friend.
Underbite is the muscleman. Pretty self explanatory, or a sword swallower. Idk what to do with the fact that he eats a lot so he could do both? I don't know.
Springload is tumbling. He's sticky, he's got the long ass legs. He'd have the little red hatter top hat with Quillfire, who he would also have throw quills at him on a roulette wheel.
And quillfire is knife throwing. He'd volunteer people from the audience, or Springload. He'd use his quills for sure, and sometimes throw them at Thunderhoof to have him dodge them.
Honorable mentions: (Raker would be a being with beetle wings, horns, and animalistic legs.Clipshade is a Rottweiler (anthro) and Windblade is a Griffin born meaning she's half Griffin)
Shadow Raker would be a human fly. (Dancers commonly at a brothel who would dance upside down on the roof) He is also skilled in several stunts such as trapeze and tightrope, which he has taught to Slip, Jet, and Drift.
Clipshade would be a clown, if you've ever read the comics. Or a mime.
Windblade would be a silk aerialist. I don't think I have to explain that much.

Hasbro has always had a terrible ability to read the room, nor have they ever really truly cared about their IP that much.
The Marvel team submitted a fake script where half the cast died horribly by sheep droids just to see if Hasbro was paying attention. Their suspicions were confirmed when Hasbro didn’t bat an eye at the ludicrous script and just submitted some casual notes.
Hasbro REALLY wanted Optimus to die in the 80’s film, despite being warned multiple times not to do that. And naturally they were shocked when killing Optimus traumatized so many children, and had no choice but to bring Optimus back.
Hasbro couldn’t make up their minds on whether they wanted to renew Beast Wars and RiD15, so each series had their own way of referencing that. Beast Wars would have their cliffhanger endings end with “The End?” or “To Be Continued…?” because had the series been canceled in S2 specifically, …Megatron won. He hands down won even if he made the time stream swiss cheese at that point.
RiD15 wrote each season to be self contained, having a final bad guy they’d defeat and then ride off into the sunset. RiD15 didn’t commit to anything that big like Prime did probably for this reason. RiD15 was also bragged about by Hasbro in particular how well it did at the time, as like it or not, RiD was very successful with its target audience, and even the grumpiest veteran fan had to admit the monster Decepticons were cool, with Steeljaw being very popular. The popularity of Decepticons like Bisk and Springload are why they got toys at all, as Hasbro initially didn’t want to make toys of certain characters.
They were incredibly unhelpful in the development of Netflix WFC, forcing the writers to make all their outlandish ideas work. One such idea they insisted on before backing off was trying to make WFC canon to the 80’s cartoon… when absolutely nothing the show was trying to do made sense for the 80’s cartoon. It’s also pretty apparent the original intent for the toys was to adapt the movie and season three, but at the last minute they threw in Beast Wars, which is why you confusingly have Rodimus and Cyclonus in a Beast Wars line, but not including them in the cartoon at all despite using Galvatron… Beast Wars also wasn’t supposed to factor in the show was it was originally supposed to end with the Transformers awakening on Earth in the 80’s.
Hasbro really wanted a Legacy cartoon on Netflix, as they were happy with WFC… despite fans rejecting the show hard during Earthrise and the ratings in the toilet. Netflix understandably passed on making more since the other show didn’t do them favors.
So Hasbro reps being brain dead about the clear apathy and disinterest in EarthSpark from audiences since day one doesn’t surprise me. Even fans of ES have turned their back on the show to the point some TF YouTubers point this out when discussing the very abrupt transition from ES to CyberWorld and Wild King, that’s how bad it’s gotten. Like you don’t immediately fast track CyberWorld if EarthSpark was doing well, and Takara finally just going “Up yours, we’re doing our own thing” after years of failures post Animated.
I don’t buy for an instant EarthSpark is continuing on into 2026 alongside CyberWorld as the old planning document states, like do fans not understand plans change on a dime? I sooner see some final episodes already in the tank trickling out next year to coincide with what has been stated to be a last minute small extension to ES. Cyber Glow Megatron screams final power up in that context, but ES isn’t very great at advertising its toy gimmicks so who’s to say. But I think ES having a last minute extension sounds like they’re largely intending to abandon it after Cosmos and Scareglow Megs comes out. We already know they’re working on CyberWorld with new toys ready to go, the same with Takara working on Wild King, so any chance of guys like Terratronus, the Insecticons and Hardtop getting proper toys are next to none in their own cartoon’s toy line.
Age of the Primes is probably the only place these guys get something, at least some of the Terrans would make sense for Quintus’ toy. Though with how much Thrash and Twitch toys I see on clearance I’m skeptical.
So there was an interview posted today with Hasbro Entertainment president Olivier Dumont. Looks like more ES episodes are still coming:
Tumblr media
Here's the article if anyone wants to read it. I have to say that ES being mentioned like an afterthought after Peppa Pig of all things is pretty damning considering how Hasbro has been treating ES lately.

I would like to point out, as the resident RiD15 guy, it didn’t actually utilize really any IDW concepts outside of arguably Windblade. And I say arguably because she was created as part of a Hasbro fan pole, her best known role has been the IDW comics. And now IDW is over and she’s been mostly benched…
Anyhoo, RiD was a pretty straightforward cops & robbers plot just with Autobots as the cops and the Decepticons as the robbers. It wasn’t really trying to be anymore complex than that, and I appreciate that more after the writing disaster EarthSpark’s first season has been. Sometimes you don’t mess with a classic formula, and RiD15’s major flaw is it’s another in a string of tonally incorrect sequels to better entries like Beast Wars to Beast Machines, Digimon Adventure & Digimon Fusion to Digimon Adventure 02 & Digimon Hunters, and I feel like Pokemon Best Wishes fits in here too.
A lot of younger Twitter TF fans raised on IDW have groused before about how the Decepticons are unfairly treated, and how the Autobots are the true bad guys because they’re cops…. I’m not about to get into an ACAB discussion because that’s above my punching weight, but what they fail to understand is the Decepticons are not at all depicted as being sympathetic. Steeljaw has a silver tongue and is emotionally manipulative, Clampdown is a flighty snitch, Fracture is has no scruples, Shadow Raker has nothing but ill intent for Drift and anyone associated with him, Ped’s whole joke is he’s a pathetic loser in the shape of a worm, and is not someone to root for because he’s aggressive, violent and twitchy, Bisk is THAT gamer you’ve met who makes playing Super Mario a life or death situation and is unpleasant to be around, etc. Also Filch and Springload aren’t mentally handicapped. Both are fully aware of what they’re doing, with Springload showing he’s more than capable of cooperating with other Decepticons, while Filch is simple: it’s shiny, she wants it, the heck with who gets in her way. And they show that other Corvicons aren’t much different, with a flock of brothers seeking to blow up Crown City with ammunition they’ve collected to watch it sparkle as it burns. Filch I always assumed operated on Beast Wars logic: her Beast Mode interferes with her logic circuits so her Beast traits become dominate like Inferno’s ant mannerisms. The problem I’ll concede is we never saw how Filch acts in Robot Mode if she’s any different, but going by Boostwing’s brood it’s likely not. The only Decepticon in the show who isn’t interested in conquest is Cyberwarp, and her team looks down on her desire for peace and cohabitation, and Bumblebee is surprised a Decepticon actually wanted peace.
I guarantee if the show continued, they may have attempted to integrate Cyberwarp into the Bee Team as a means to reach the cohabitation desired, similar to IDW, but meeting half way. They give Decepticons who want peace a chance at rehabilitation while the ones who just want to hurt people and take over planets are locked up.
I don’t count Grimlock in this scenario because while he was introduced as a Decepticon, he didn’t really act like a Decepticon from the get go, and the show clearly didn’t want to properly explain how (a) Grimlock was a Decepticon let alone was incarcerated beyond (unintentional) property damage. The best I got from this is while everyone ELSE were Decepticons aboard the prison ship, be they former soldiers of Megatron’s or dangerous criminals, the (Decepticon) High Council just threw people they didn’t like in jail because they’re petty.
I fully believe if RiD15 were forced to comply with IDW, we would’ve seen more characters and direct nods, like Rung, Nautica, Krok, the concept of Forged (Bumblebee likely would be Forged) & Constructed Cold (Fixit’s mass produced model implies Constructed Cold), the Conjux idea applied to Strongarm and Sideswipe to appease shippers, and so forth.
I think what sticks out the most, is while Prime did introduce the concept, IDW was what really went hard in the paint with it were the 13 Primes and their relics.
RiD largely ignored them, doing the bare minimum with the Prime Realm Optimus was in for the 1st season, and never spoke of it again afterwards. Sure The Fallen was the final boss of S1, but they killed him off pretty quickly with the power of Friendship and the combined power of the Decepticon Hunter gadgets (that fundamentally shouldn’t be more powerful than an ancient Prime when you think about it but eh. It’s nothing to loose sleep over). Micronus had a very small role as Optimus’ coach, with the only other noteworthy Prime being Liege Maximo… who only appeared in the children’s chapter books most only know exist via TFWiki.
RiD easily could’ve gone more into left over relics of the Primes like IDW did, and I still argue Onyx Prime would’ve made far more sense in regards to why most Decepticons were beasts, with his funky mask playing a key role like The Forge did in Prime and The Emberstone did in EarthSpark. The Enigma of Combination not playing a role like it did in IDW and Cyberverse still confuses me, as RiD instead opts to have Combiners just exist without it like Chop Shop and Menasor, with Ultra Bee being the stock comic book trope of being a nuclear accident. They really just avoided what they could from IDW, with Cyberverse and EarthSpark going harder into it, and I think partly it was due to younger writers having been raised on IDW including it in there. And with one such writer not being involved for EarthSpark’s second season, maybe that will be an improvement.
Still I think RBA did what some wanted in RiD in trying to habilitate a Decepticon. But they had Wedge, who just randomly said he used to be one with no prior build up, and I think they only did so because he’s a construction vehicle, and Constructicons are popular. The actual Decepticon they converted was Laserbeak… but I think that falls flat too because most cartoon media just has him as a normal animal and not an anthropomorphic one like Steeljaw, so his ability to chose as a stock animal feels in question (Cyberverse had Soundwave just capture a wild Laserbeak and shove him in his chest…), and having him change sides in a post Decepticon era feels… conflicting. It gives the opposite message… So maybe they were better off not doing that.
I think the writing problem within Transformers originates from the fact that audiences as a whole ALREADY felt that they were already being talked down to, and in an effort to appease fans writers deduced that they needed to tackle complex narratives out of their league. In a lackluster attempt of replicating other medias successful attempts, storytellers were essentially pushed to pump out highly intellectual political discussions that they weren't entirely well too informed on and unrealistic publishing/producing schedules added onto this stress
It is my own opinion that Rescue Bots, Rescue Bots Academy and BotBots are better written than TFP, RiD2015 and Cyberverse. Taking that into consideration, I couldn't help but notice that the latter were more influenced by IDW whilst the former were allowed more creative freedom. While this could simply be a reflection of my personal dislike for majority of IDW's work regarding Transformers, I have yet to see an example of anything to combat the implications that IDW and heavily inspired IDW content are a main contributor in perpetuating weaker writing standards under the guise of political depth to appease fans and make them feel intellectually savvy
Like I've said before, in my frequent, frequent lambasting of IDW's writing, sales, characterizations; and pretty much everything that essentially wasn't a crossover with another franchise, there was a lot of trying to be hyper-specific in the focus, which only really served to show just how shallow and dull it all was, missing the core of why anyone would be interested in the franchise and only really enticing a small, hardcore subsection of the fandom. Now, you have a copy of that, unable to replicate even the few things that IDW was credited with making work, and you end up with a caricature of something that wasn't working, to begin with. And with that comes diminishing returns, in show quality, views, and sales of associated merchandise.
I don't really have opinions on Rescue Bots or BotBots, since they were aiming for a much younger audience and I didn't have kids who were interested in them when the shows were airing, but you could argue that they were more focused, instead of trying to do their best to imitate the IDW comics in an attempt to find meaning in the work and creating that caricature of work that was already not that great.
And now we have Earthspark doing something similar after IDW lost the license, trying to do the post-war "The Decepticons had a point" stories only for it to completely not resonate with kids or casual fans, and the toys to clog discount retailers across the country. It's not that you shouldn't try to handle deep topics, it's that your words need weight to them if you want to have any hope of getting people to care.

So r there bots with anthro-like robot modes like steeljaw or most of the cons in rid15?
i thought i had answered something like this recently but turns out i'd mentioned it over a month ago. oops! but there aren't any completely non-humanoid root modes in SNAP. centaurs, multiarmed, digitigrade, and mermaid-or-lamia-like forms are possible, so RID15 bots like Steeljaw, Thunderhoof, Fixit, Scorponok, Kickback, and even Vertebreak to some degree are slightly changed but sort of similar. whereas bots like Underbite, Springload, Clampdown, Ped, and Octopunch need to be more humanoid in root mode

So I’ve also seen some brief discussion on if RiD15 should return in some capacity. For the most part, people say no because the show told its story and it doesn’t have much else to really offer, but that characters like Strongarm, Fixit and Thunderhoof should totally come back in other media.
RiD15 is one of my personal favorite series and while I generally agree it doesn’t NEED to return, I do think there’s enough mileage to do more with it in comic form. One thing that comes to mind are adaptions of Titans Return and Power of the Primes, as Combiner Force was clearly a reaction to Combiner Wars. These plots would see Steeljaw’s Pack (which now includes Vertebreak, Simacore, and Springload for story purposes) having discovered Doradus does indeed exist, and it was an Ancient Titan that crash landed on Earth, but its Titan Master had perished in the crash. This entices Steeljaw to become the Titan’s new Master with Vertebreak’s help and use Doradus as the new capital of his Decepticon homeworld.
The second plot involves Steeljaw, like Megatron before him, attempting to acquire the power of a Prime when the Bee Team and the Clays uncover a peculiar Cybertronian relic Fixit can’t identify. When it’s discovered the relic is part of a Prime, Steeljaw steals it and grafts it on himself in an effort to become the new Prime for his homeworld scheme, jokingly referring to the Primes’ shady past anyway.
Some scattered episodic stories that come to mind is expanding more on the Clays, where the mom drops by for a visit, but so do the Decepticons, and it’s up to the Autobots to keep a sense of normalcy while she’s visiting… until it’s revealed Mrs. Clay is actually an agent of Unit E like Fowler and has Been looking for the Decepticons attacking the base. Sending in a team of her own, made up of toy only Autobots who are also part of Unit E. Another episodic story involves Bee reuniting with his old friend Dealer, but Strongarm suspects something is up when Bee and Dealer’s old Cryo-Condor Decepticon “foe” DoubleDealer appears, which unearths a secret of Dealer’s.
If these are not applicable, then jump to two main arcs intended to close out the series proper. First, the Star Seekers (the intended later arc villains for Prime until that was dropped) come to Earth to settle a score with Team Prime, but has to contend with the close enough Team Bee instead. This conflict results in the Autobots being exposed to the city, where like Animated, are generally regarded as heroes. This comes crashing down in the final arc, where Steeljaw resurfaces, and in a loose adaption of Megatron’s Master Plan, uses his silver tongue to manipulate his way into finally controlling the planet and labeling the Autobots as frauds and villains. When the ruse is dropped, and Steeljaw enslaves the humans to convert the planet into a Decepticon home world, a small resistance with the Bee Team and Mrs. Clay’s unit sees one final clash against Ultra Bee and the surprise combiner SteelReign (as Steeljaw had managed a long game scheme to both get his Pack back AND the Enigma of Combination as his final trump card).
Steeljaw is captured and the Autobots’ mission is seemingly over until one final The Adventure Continues! tease occurs with the Bee Team charging off to face Earth bound threats like MECH, VENOM and other Decepticons like Ratbat who have stakes in the left over Great War tech on the planet….!

Transformers RID2015 final review!!;
Oh boy. This was a long time coming. Let's go over what I gotta say about this show!
*pls note all these are my opinions, and may contain swearing/spoilers.
Pros!!;
Some bad guy designs. Take for example bots like Thunderhoof or Stockade, who genuinely look SO good? (I particularly like the rusty nail cigar detail on Stockade, THAT was some good shit).
The voice acting, on the whole, was VERY good. Yes there were a few bots who shook me (like Ped, that shit made me spit out tea), but honestly? I was impressed for the most part.
Sideswipe.
Minicons. No seriously, 97% of minicons in this show were ADORABLE! My only complaint is that they didn’t get more screen time, if anything.
The whole ‘camouflage’ thing they did? SO good, SO creative. They did other such creative stuff like this, (recalibrating optics, Springload’s acid skin, alloy hives, Uv lights, etc. cool shit).
How they made so many decepticons look like animals. Call me a furry, but I honestly like transformers designed to be animals. Thunderhoof, Steeljaw, Saberhorn, Stockade, and Zizza are particularly ones I enjoy.
Denny. I demand he be in the next dream daddy update immediately.
Bumblebee’s night off. Literally all of it.
The fact that NO bot is spared from stupidity/awkward moments. Decepticons, autobots, don’t matter, everyone’s fucking gay and stupid. Fucking great.
Bumblebee’s failed rallying cries. So cringy, and I feel like they REALLY signified his growth as a leader.
Battlemasks. Seriously, I LOVE how there’s more of them in this series. I just wished they had more, especially for the baddies. Bad guys deserve to look cool dammit.
Sideswipe’s OBVIOUS crush on Jazz. Fuck outta here with that Sideblade shit.
'Guilty as charged'.Literally everything about it. The twists, the background, the fact that they MADE AN AUTOBOT A BAD GUY. So fucking good of an episode.
Cons!!;
The constant references to tfp. The nods to tfp are few and far in between, but they do exist. One would think this is a plus, and the idea itself is, but RID focuses on all the wrong things. Like in the episode, ‘History lessons’, they bring up the base, but never really delve into the history of it, choosing to focus on the bad guys.
The character design. This isn't for ALL of them, but this show has an awful habit of making some characters too big. Take for example, Optimus. His thickness works against him, as it removes the lack of details that made him so GORGEOUS in tfp.
The re colors/clones. I get it, reusing some assets saves money. But the colors tend to be just awful, and most designs are VERY hit and miss. Aka Airachnid.
Bringing up tfp again. Now I'm not going to be like ‘oh tfp was first= better’, because the first isn't always better. What I hate is the fact that RID sort of ignores tfp for the most part, despite being only FIVE years apart. I feel like if they made this a separate continuity or MUCH later time wise, this wouldnt annoy me so much.
Episodes are honestly 90% filler. Like armada, it's very gimmicky, using a LOT of episodes to sell toys. The plot of the show is really just ‘catch decepticons’, vs tfp, where the challenge changed in pretty much every episode.
Speaking of decepticons, I hated how they made so many. Don't get me wrong, I love variety, but I feel like the designs of these random baddies took up WAY too much time, especially to just have them thrown out after one appearance.
Thunderhoof. I know, queen of hoof thirst, saying this. Let me explain. I LOVE him, but like many decepticons in this series, he was more or less ignored. Don’t get me wrong, he was given more time compared to most, and that I appreciate, but they gave him SUCH a background of a mafia boss, only to just demote him for the sake of Steeljaw. I was just honestly offended that they didn't do more with him when they could've (though DAMN he was hot in Decepticon Island Part 2, and his introduction episode).
Characters do not progress very much. Strongarm and Sideswipe somewhat did, Bumblebee as well, but I wasn't truly believing a character grew up for the most part.
Decepticon hunters. I just don’t understand them. At the beginning, they were neat tools, but combining them just suddenly made everyone way too OP. I don’t understand it, and I don’t really like it.
This brings me to the topic of weapons. In G1 they did the handheld weapons, and that worked, given it was G1, but this is canonically AFTER tfp, so removing those weapons doesn't make sense, and it’s honestly kinda fucking lame. This is a HUGE gripe for me tbh. It wasn’t even that they couldn't, bots like Fracture had built in blades and the like, so ultimately, what's the excuse?
Octopunch and Clampdown. Kill them with fire.
‘Even robots have nightmares’. Not the entire episode, just the fact that Chop shop’s moment of kindness in that episode wasn't really explored, and the missed opportunity there ACTUALLY upset me. Even bad guys deserve redemption.
Speaking of, I hate the fact that only Grimlock got redemption. Yes tfp also didn't have much luck in converting the baddies, but there were at least ATTEMPTS, and I feel like having those attempts turned the black white and sides onto a more gray area, and sort of showed the audience that no one was inherently BAD. If they had that in this series, I’d be MUCH more into this.
Minasaur. Was just such a waste of time. Decent design, but the character was shit. He apparently destroyed an actual solar system or some shit, and yet, he can't properly control his combined form for two seconds.
Stunticons. They were decent looking in design, I'll give them that, but they were wasted, and rushed. RID has enough bad guys that desperately needed attention, adding these new ones was a choice that really made this show a struggle to watch.
'Prisoners Principles'. The way they covered the legal rules of Prisoners wasn't too bad. What WAS bad was the normalized brutality of Clampdown. Now I hate the fuck, but he's a willing prisoner. Bots like Strongarm and Sideswipe willingly putting him in danger just REALLY seemed like boot kissing. Don't appreciate it.
The episode with Dropforge kinda made me realize something. That the whole situation with the government could've been covered a LOT sooner. If they were going to touch on it, at ALL, they should've done it properly. You could've literally scrapped the stunticons and replaced it with issues of Cybertron's justice system. It would have saved them money on voice actors, and the thought of collaboration between Cybertron and earth would've been GOOD shit. It would've been a good opportunity to bring in Dropforge, who was genuinely a cool character.
Ratchet meeting Optimus. Was so disappointing, so lackluster, and really, really undermined their relationship in tfp.
There was SO many musical talents for some fucking reason. Sideswipe, Jazz, Steeljaw, Thunderhoof- all VA's were singers, and they did NOTHING with that.
The way the council was handled. I couldn't remember a time where I've ever given less of a shit about their characters. You fucked up CYCLONUS. How the fuck you gonna ruin CYCLONUS.
There's a specific post talking about this shows villian problem (written by my buddy bae, give em a follow), and there's lots of points i agree with; https://baebeyza.tumblr.com/post/190875674229/robots-in-disguise-2015-and-the-villain-problem.
They also made this post that I think has some solid points; https://baebeyza.tumblr.com/post/621992774922797056/rid15-and-what-it-could-have-been-waited-foruys of the episode.
So all in, this show is....okay. I've seen it twice now, and both times, they have something in common; they're exhausting to go through. Don't get me wrong, it has some good moments, really does. But on the whole, this show wastes a LOT of your time. I don't think it's too much to say that you could cut at least 30% of content, and STILL get to the plot. For a show, that's a LOT. This is a show you should definitely NOT start this franchise with. Treat yourself, watch TFP or TFA. Maybe even beast wars. Just...not this.
Final verdict: 6/10.

Ah. Yes. Springload.
Tumblr media
I mean, in his delusion it makes sense why he'd be a tad pissed about this. Would I be oblivious to say he can keep it? (Considering the sphere's effects?)

Lately I’ve kept pondering over RiD15, and wondering how the story and characters could’ve been approached differently. As much as I didn’t like the bulk of Prime, I do think embracing its predecessor from the start might’ve helped in places. Generally I see a revised RiD as largely having the same concept, escaped prisoners the Autobots need to round up, but pivoted in a more coherent direction. The Alchemor would be an inside job. The (secret Decepticon) High Council would specifically arrange a prison ship filled with baddest of the bad to be sent adrift in space, and later be sabotaged to crash on Earth as part of an elaborate plot. While partially a revenge scheme for Earth’s role in the Decepticons’ final defeat in the Great War, it’s also mostly busy work to distract the Autobots while the Council set larger plans in motion on Cybertron. Some of The Thirteen however would have an influence on events. Optimus would urge Bumblebee to protect Earth, but Onyx would be the one to subtly manipulate the Council, orchestrating the wrangling of Beast type Transformers in the prison ship for a colonization effort for Beast kind, with Steeljaw as the figure head. Steeljaw, of course, would defy Onyx as he seeks to recruit a personal Pack to take over the greater Solar System and create a new Decepticon Empire. Another Prime would also interfere, Liege Maximo, who like in the RiD books, mostly partakes in events for his own amusement over anything else. The villain of the week plot would generally remain, but tighter plotting would ensure everything feeds into larger story arcs. In particular, the Autobots apprehending weaker Decepticons, for example, would allow Steeljaw to weed out undesirables in his future Pack, something that was alluded to in the Minitron episode. Overtime Steeljaw would form his Pack, consisting of members from the third season, as well as extra characters such as Chop Shop, Bisk, Simacore, Vertebreak, Springload and Groundpounder. Springload in particular would be useful in sniffing out relics remaining on Earth for Decepticon usage while on his hunt for Dorados. Decepticon Island would still come into play, though slightly tweaked to serve as more of a homebase for The Pack, though it eventually gets taken over by the Autobots as it does inshow. Like Prime, there’d be a collectathon aspect, as both sides resume collecting leftover tech, which would result in several arcs. The initial arc would be the revival of MECH, now under the command of Dr. Archevil, with Short Circuit, and The Mechanic. Following Cylas’ lead, they’re conducting biotech research to jumpstart humanity’s next evolution. Denny and Fixit would infiltrate the group, disguised as The Robot Master with the glitchy Mini-Con said to be a tamed Cybertronian under his control. Later arcs would be adaptions of the Prime Wars trilogy. Upon finding the Enigma of Combination, Steeljaw plots to use it to create the ultimate Decepticon Combiner from his pack, resulting in SteelReign. Secondhand exposure causes the Bee Team to merge into UltraBee. On top of including Crash Combiners from the toyline, there’d be several original combinations as well such as Twinferno and Grimlock. Later, in desperate need of resources and a base after Decepticon Island, Springload insists on finding Doradus, and after following some leads, eventually discovers it! It turns out to be a Titan that crash landed on Earth during ancient times, it’s abundant sources of Energon being what seeded the planet’s Energon deposits in a mild retcon. Steeljaw seeks to control the Titan, and uses Vertebreak’s grafting experiments to merge with Dorados’ Titan Master to do so. The series finale sees the Council attempting to harness the Power of the Primes for their benefit on Cybertron, which causes a ripple effect to Earth, causing the Transformers to confront the Primes that orchestrated events and come together to defeat The Fallen, who was awakened between dimensions by the Council’s tampering. The human characters would be allowed to have proper arcs and characterization as the show progresses. Denny and Russell would be largely the same, only with an arc that gradually allows Russell to warm up to his father and explain how they became estranged in the first place. The original show implies such a relationship, but it’s glossed over way too quickly. Mrs. Clay would appear, and be revealed to work with Fowler in UNIT: E to help investigate and cover up the Transformers’ presence on Earth. Her team consists of Stormshot, Skyhammer and Twinferno. Fowler’s unit is not directly interacted with usually, but is shown to include adult! Jack, Raf and Miko who along with Ratchet are shown to deal with Alchemorcons outside of Crown City, particularly Stockade and his Mini-Cons who have become their arch enemies. Hank is allowed to be in the know at the scrapyard following a Decepticon attack at the Crown City Fair, and becomes fast friends with Grimlock. Their relationship is an inversion of Bulkhead and Miko’s. The alien hunter from season 3 is used at the start of the series, rewritten as investigating Transformer activity since at least TF Prime, and seeks to prove their existence. Something of a Mr. Crocker type, he’s viewed as the Crown City nutjob, and nobody believes his claims (even MECH wants nothing to do with him). Like Kelly of the original RiD, he’d get comically caught up in the Transformers’ conflicts, usually with little to show for it by the end. Some additional spot light episodes include the following: A loose adaption of Afterdeath, where Bisk seeks programmer Ethan Zachary at Alternate Realities, Inc and demands his team create a challenging video game to his specifications. He and Bumblebee would later duel within the completed game, dubbed Multi-World. Ethan Zachery would be an old college buddy of Denny’s. Grimlock, frustrated at is inability to blend in like the other Autobots, finds a relic in Simacore’s lab that enhances transformation. Equipping it, Grimlock can now transform into other vehicles, but can’t control what he turns into, leading to many hilarious situations. Chop Shop is hired by an eccentric alien collector, later revealed to be Autobot Pipes, to acquire Earth memorabilia to add to his collection. The biggest source of such memorabilia is Denny’s scrapyard, which Chop Shop pilfers from under his nose as part of an arc long running gag, until the Autobots get wise to it. Pipes, not really a bad sort at all, tries to make amends by actually buying Denny’s wares, of which leaves the discriminating nostalgist with a hefty pile of Shanix that’s useless on Earth... This later works out for Denny, as thanks to Pipes, he now has a new intergalactic avenue of business with other alien collectors by series end.
