Richard Smith

Richard Smith, CBE (27 October 1931 – 15 April 2016) was an English painter and printmaker. Smith produced work in a range of styles, and is credited with extending the field of painting through his shaped, sculptural canvases. A key figure in the British development of Pop Art, Smith was chosen to represent Britain in the 1970 Venice Biennale. #richardsmith

#thekissorpoisonboyfriendorjesusblood EXHIBITION AND BOOK opening/launch this Thursday 6-9pm @kingsgateworkshops - book costs £5 inc p&p OR come and get one on Thursday and have a drink with us 🍻 The book and exhibition have been an exploration into the moment of contact and transfer between two surfaces in the act and process of printmaking; this spans traditional methods of print but also extends beyond them, incorporating works that involve transfer, impression, reaction and exchange between surfaces, materials and objects. Two of my works are in the show, a sculpture and drawing, which both use bleach as a reactive substance to strip pigments already present.
