Ribbon-tailed Astrapia
Also called Shaw Mayer’s astrapia, the beauty of this bird rests not in its ridiculously long white tail feathers, but in the jewel-like blue-green of its head and throat and the rich, crushed velvet blackness of the rest of its body. The two curving white tail feathers that give the bird its name ends in a black dart. The female is not as showy but she’s not exactly drab, with a blue iridescence on her head and her own set of long, brown, and white tail feathers.

Animal hazard stripe
A simple design artwork featuring Giraffe, Spider monkey, Ribbon tailed astrapia, snake, weasel, munchkin cat, basset hound and camel.
Long body, neck and tail has become long strip in this hazard warning will easly caught attention and become aware of hazzard.
It was all inspired from Angy paws's design (https://www.angypaws.com/products/mono-sosig-sockies) that gave me idea.

Birds of paradise <333 Them being of the same bird family is important to me... (honorary mention to the snowy owl for Kristoph) (also honorable mention to the paradise crow) (but i like them having matching ribbons (and the two birds i went with are more closely related))
I originally tried giving Klav the whole fluffy back of yellow/white feathers, but (a) he looked SO over complicated (especially compared to everyone else) and (b) I realized that no other character has back feathers, anyways. so it would make sense he does not either.
The ribbon-tails are similar to Apollo and Trucy's hearts: they both inherit this feature from one of their parents. (One parent is a stephanie's astrapia, one is a lesser bird-of-paradise). (Also of note: the lesser bird-of-paradise also has two long wire plumes, if you look closely)
Tails: (Klav's is basically a ribbon-tailed astrapia's tail btw.) Because the tail is such a notable feature of these species, I'm including it, though they also come from the base of the wing (though I'll probably just draw them as essentially tails in the future), and are much shorter than they would be, were they proportional.
i got very lazy on the individual introduction sheets they're so bad 😭😭 specifically klavier pls just imagine he and his wings look better there 🙏🙏🙏 LOL i hope the other drawings make up for it !! >:3
FINALLY MY CAT!!!! it’s been a while,,, this is him everyday after taking his pills cuz he knows it’s milk time now (image from my dad) (also flat colors and zoom bc me likey this image)
#ace attorney#aa4 spoilers#klavier gavin#kristoph gavin#apollo justice#klapollo#ace avian#okart#funny story#i got so excited from that ask where an anon talked about klav at a show#that i started drawing it before even finalizing what bird he was#and how the back feathers looked#so i had to go back and redo some of it rip#anyways these were a lot of fun#next few drawings for this au might just be some character interactions ive been thinking about#(and a couple asks !! im not ignoring u guys i swear)#(also maybe godot)#anyways this one is mostly just two drawings of klavier LOL with a little other stuff sprinkled in#i have no regrets#this one is for u klavier nation

I've had a few ref sheets in the works lately, and I got another one done today. :D Even after I decided to add her to Columba's pirate crew, I'd been stumped for a LONG while on what direction to actually take with the design in general and FINALLY I have one that I really like, especially after giving her a more harpy-ish treatment to add more variety to the many bird constellations. Pretty proud of the symbol integration on this one too, some are easier than others! She's the first I've fully completed of this group so things are bound to get tweaked later on, but this is a good start.
The name Apus means "without feet", as apparently these birds were once thought to not have any, and I thought that would fit perfectly into a double peg-leg to match the pirate theme. A bird-of-paradise could be any number of species under that name though, so I've incorporated attributes from several here, particularly the sicklebills and the various species that have those distinct tail feathers, of both the long and curly varieties. Colour wise, she predominantly resembles the ribbon-tailed astrapia.
Columba's crew isn't exactly evil per se, but they have lost their way a bit after losing their former captain and their ship. Apus loves combat, not for the sake of the outcome, but for the act of combat itself. If you were to lose your weapon during a fight with her, she'd gladly give you one of hers just to continue it! She'll also use her long talons to fight with, but only if she has no other weapons left. Hope you like her. :) ------- The constellation symbol for Apus was originally designed by Denis Moskowitz and released to the public domain.

Could you review the taillow line?
(This is the last review request in my inbox right now. You guys know the drill, now's the time to send if you have anything you want reviewed.)
I find it interesting that when people talk about Pokemon that are literally just animals, they always bring up Seel and not Taillow here, which is literally a Barn Swallow. How literally, you may ask? This literally:
The red around the face and breast, the black body, the white underbelly, the split tails—even the shiny is based off of the iridescent green coloration of some swallows. There's not a single twist or visually interesting thing here—it's just a Barn Swallow. Don't get me wrong, Taillow does look just as pretty as the actual bird does, and there's nothing wrong with it from a visual standpoint, but man, GameFreak were not trying very hard with this one.
Swellow is also Literally a Barn Swallow, right down to the name, though at least it tries to add a few small changes—the tails now have red tips, there's a black V-shaped breast marking that looks pretty nice, and there's a few swished-back feathers behind the head. It's a bit more interesting than Taillow in that regard, but ultimately it doesn't change quite enough to really be all that memorable. It's nicely designed and pleasing to look at, if nothing else.
I think this line could use something in the future—it's one of the more forgotten early-route bird 'mons out there, and it's only two stages to boot. The first option would be to do regionals, as those are often a good chance for GameFreak to "spice up" a design. Not entirely sure what you could do with these guys, but the tails are fairly distinct—maybe they could become psychic or fairy-types based on the nekomata or something.
The other option would be to add an evolution. Going back to the tails thing, I think an ideal place to start with an evo would be either the Marvelous Spatuletail Hummingbird or the Ribbon-Tailed Astrapia, both of which are ridiculous in their own special ways:
The line as-is looks good and isn't a bad start—I could easily see a really cool-looking and unique evo coming from these two that fits the line but has more of a concept, or at least more striking visuals. As-is, these guys are fine if you really, really like Barn Swallows.

Winged Wednesday Prompt # 37
Photo by Amit Talwar on Pexels.com This year, I am loathed to offer up questions to help you sink into the process. I will simply say this: allow the beauty of the bird in question to inspire your mermaid creation. This week’s bird: Ribbon-Tailed Astrapia

the ribbon-tailed astrapia is a species of bird-of-paradise found in western portions of papua new guinea. feeding primarily on fruits and arthropods, this species thrives in subalpine forests. they are named for the male’s breeding plumage, with flowing white ‘ribbons’ for tail plumage. males are also distinguished by their iridescent green heads, chests, and a nodule above the beak; females are duller in coloration, but still have iridescent plumage on the head. like other birds of paradise, males of this species are polygamous. the ribbon-tailed astrapia is considered threatened by habitat loss and hunting (primarily the males, for their prized plumage).
