Gotta rant about Nyx in Lore Olympus because I saw her design-
Tumblr media
RACHEL WHAT THE FUCK HAVE YOU DONE TO NYX???
I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT IS NYX, THAT IS NOT NYX, NOPE, NO WAY-
I SWEAR ON THE BLOOD OF EVERY SINGLE GOD THAT IS NOT NYX, THAT IS HER DISOWNED TENTH COUSIN FLYX!
My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.
WHY DID RACHEL MAKE NYX LOOK LIKE A DEMON FROM DEMON SLAYER?
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO OF THEM???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I AIN'T SEEING A DIFFERENCE, Y'ALL, I THINK THAT POST I REBLOGGED THAT SAID KOKUSHIBO AND NYX LOOK ALIKE WAS ONTO SOMETHING-
I cannot say this enough, but Rachel did Nyx dirty 😭
Justice for my girl Nyx, smh
Someone better keep Rachel away from mythology after this.

Glass onion is so good!!
So good! I want to rewatch it already and I finished it like an hour ago. Also he’s gay how cool is that? I think we occasionally forget how much representation matters sometimes bc it’s like yes there’s queer characters on tv box is ticked but like while I thought he was a lil fruity it wasn’t something I expected them to do and it’s just really nice to have it go yes the ‘last of the gentlemen detectives’ is queer actually, especially in this fucking banger of a murder mystery film. And having Hugh Grant play the stress baking husband/boyfriend was fun.
But just everything about it like the rest of the cast the visuals etc.. watch this film!

So I've been seeing again the Sequel trilogy because I'm a masochist, but what I increasingly realise when I watch these films is that Rian Johnson is the Madonna to J. J. Abrams' Lady Gaga. Rian Johnson really created something different with The Last Jedi, and J. J. Abrams, just copied A New Hope in Force Awakens and when he came back for The Rise of Skywalker, he threw away the work of a filmmaker who unlike him didn’t half copy other people by turning their stories into something reductive. Because while he screwed up the last film and ruined the narrative, he took story bits he liked from Johnson's and Luca's work, and gave us a reductive piece of work. And that along with all the films ( different franchises ) in which Abrahms promised a lot but delivered nothing I can now safely say I have beaf with J. J. Abrams and Disney for killing Star Wars for me. Thank god of AO3 and fanfic writers.

Something I don't get in fandoms
Tumblr media
Alright. Here is the thing. I don't get why fans often see it as a willing spiteful aflict against themselves, when writers make decisions they don't like - especially when those decisions go against maybe something the work gets adapted from or stuff that got established before.
Look, folks, let's make this clear:
Movies and TV series are always a collaborative effort - even if we have a writer-director. Decisions never get made by one person alone.
Material does not translate from one medium to the other. It needs to be changed - or it will quickly run into problems. Be it, because the media it originally was portrayed in was part of the (sub)text (best example is the Watchman comic). Be it, because it just would not translate (a lot of video game adaptions fall into that - the best adaptions are very lose with the materials). Or be it, for length reason (this might lead to adding or cutting of material).
A lot of older material has just not aged well. Period. While certain storylines might be quite iconic, a lot of folks often don't quite remember the less than nice details of it.
Look, folks, a lot of major franchises (be it Marvel or DC comics or other giant franchises like Star Wars) are not consistent when it comes to lore either way. Because it is really impossible to make such a giant franchise with so many different people involved consistent.
Generally barely any film or series creator will start a project with the thought of "How am I going to piss off the most fans?" I am not saying it does not happen at all, but it is not what happens in general. They will sit down and wonder: "How do I tell the best possible story with the material and constrictions given?"
Now, maybe your idea of a good story is different from their idea of a good story. Maybe you think a good story needs romance - while they don't. Maybe they think, a good story needs at least one long chase sequence - while you don't agree. Maybe they consider this one character from the source material as way less important than you do. And yes, maybe they will also see romantic tensions between two characters that you have always shipped with someone else.
Or actually: Maybe they don't, but the studio, producer or who knows has decided that one of those things needs to happen for market reasons.
Just don't go around and assume that people do it to spite you personally or even your fandom. No, Rian Johnson did not do The last Jedi to piss off Star Wars fans. No, whatever happened in the MCU that you did not like did not happen because Kevin Feige wants to spite you. No... whatever you think someone did to spite a fandom... it was very probably done because the writer or director thought it was best for the story - or because the producer thought it was best for the product.
You might not agree. That is fine. But most artists are not spiteful bastards. Yes, some are. But most aren't.
And yes, in some cases a movie/series might just suck, because literally everything that could go wrong in production went wrong. It happens.

[ID: Text from the linked article. Headline: Glass Onion Director Explains Hugh Grant's Cameo. By Brett Finger, January 8, 2023.
Lede: Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery director Rian Johnson explains the film's Hugh Grant cameo and some potential backstory.
"They’re a couple. His name is Phillip. I just basically thought who would it give me the most joy for Benoit Blanc to be with, and I thought Hugh Grant. He was such a joy to be with, he came to set for one day, did that one disconnected scene and trusted us to put it in the movie. I also love that he’s home baking, trying to make sourdough bread. I don’t know if I see him as the Watson to Blanc’s Sherlock, but it’s good to have separate things, plus that apartment is so nice, I can’t imagine Blanc can afford it, so I think he has a real job."
The decision proved to be funny and insightful, with a flustered Grant emerging from the kitchen wearing an apron in the middle of making sourdough bread in the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery opening. Sourdough starter kits were popular during the COVID-19 pandemic, adding some relatable humor to the scene. Johnson teased that Grant's profession likely pays for much of the couple's expenses, with the idea of Benoit Blanc's detective work being a hobby that isn't very lucrative adds another layer to the viewers' understanding of the beloved mystery-solver. This, in turn, helps characterize Blanc, as it could suggest that he is doing detective work to help others and not just for the money. End ID.]

(Small warning for swearing and genocide mentions)
Today in my history class I learned that some reservations JUST got electricity. >:/
How I love being American.
Seriously though, it shouldn't have taken that long.
This is just another reminder of the effects of colonization (AKA mass genocide).
"America is the land of the free!"
Land of the free my ass.
If it's truly the "land of the free", how come the Indigenous Americans are still being discriminated against? Not just Indigenous Americans, but also Muslims, LGBTQIA2S+, Neurodivergents, Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, and many more. Hell some people are even being full on ATTACKED for siding with Palestine. Not to mention the book bans happening. AND ALSO PEOPLE GET HARASSED FOR HOBBIES (Example: Furries) AND SPIRITUAL BELIEFS (Example: Therians)!
Last time I checked, we had rights to identity and freedom, so why is that being taken away from us?
Which brings me to this point:
We are not free until all of us are free.
Thank you for reading my Rian Rant, hope y'all have a great rest of your day/night. <3

Marvel and DC would never.
Their villains gotta be "deep" and "hurt" by society that the real assholes and idiots can defend themselves with the argument that they "relate" to the villain and that it's "society"s fault, and that they only hurt you because they have been hurt.
Defense comes before accountability.
The thing I love about these movies is the simplicity of it all. That humans are not too deep sometimes, and that villains in your life is just a straight up Asshole or Idiot, and if you realize that you are one, you shouldn't brood and act like the joker. You take accountability, accept that you have hurt people, and say sorry.
That's it. That's how easy it is being human.
I love that this comes to light again.
My favorite running theme of the Knives Out movies is just the insistence on calling out the villains in the simplest terms. Marta looking at Ransom in the first movie's reveal scene and saying he's an asshole, Blanc insisting Miles is an idiot in the reveal scene in the second. These men are assholes and idiots and it's lovely to have that just. Stated. So plainly. So deliciously.

It's interesting how the "multiverse problem" (stakes) and the canonicity problem (continuity) are discussed with respect to media properties like Star Wars and Marvel, whereas Transformers uses them to solve each other.
In Transformers lore, every last scrap of official material is 100% Canon, just in different universal streams. These continuities are catalogued by only one iteration of the characters, and even they have barely enough power to stop a multiverse level catastrophe. On the other hand, those are rare. Since there's lots of continuities - an arbitrarily high number -, new media can exist on its own and build its own stakes without needing to account for or one-up what came before.

i NEED to get more narrative foils
#rian is too soft i need someone scuffier and potentially MORE bedraggled n snippy to go on rants#rian is good for heartfelt and/or heartbreaking rants. i need someone to be angry cunty#but not as one of rians debate partner#they dont have deep personal history and/or stakes in engaging w one another they actually share views most of the time.#rian just thinks the others too hard n the other thinks rians too soft. so they dont interact much they just in each others radar as#Vaguely (Prickly/Mushy) Ally#mayb hes either Not an accursed but similarly ''cast out'' from the label human or hes accursed but#by choice not by forced inheritance like rian#foils etc etc#anyways i watched OSP's new pinocchio plot video and now i have Thoughts. on Humanity. and lack of#rians story is like avsolutely drenched in the question of Humanity Or No. rian as an accursed n described as former-human never-been-human#former in the societal sense. the second he becomes accursed society has deemed him Not human. but since he was younger#being human has always felt an alien concept to him. vexing. confusing. mainly bcuz of his particular brand of neurodivergency#maybe hes never been human. in that rian found it sorta like a relief when he became an accursed. he doesnt need to fit in a human mold. he#cast out. he doesnt need to. im not human. may never have been. and thats not so bad is it. type of thinking#n then he meets how other accursed have interpreted that inhumanity thing#one person whos devastated about it. tries to appeal to the standards of humanity. tries to reject what made them an accursed.#someone who hated what humanity has done to them. hated humanity. rejected and spit at the thought of humans.#a sorcerer who is accursed 'by choice'. by practicing magic was cast out of humanity yet will never gave up their magic.#compare n contrast. rians thinking w other accursed's#hes soft abt it tho#kinda want someone else to be rian version pissy. rians too heartfelt abt everything even anger. kinda want someone snarky to have his back#views at least. someone who understands him. and in that understanding disquietness. to know someone else knows your insides intrinsically.#in his eyes ur laid to bare like a gutted fish. because with his eyes hes looking in the mirror.#yeayy thot of more ways to complicate the relationship. the mortifying ordeal of being known#idont think hes in the support group-which is just rians friend group. might b apartment neighbors tho#tank top baggy pants messy cut short hair untrimmed stubble. like if rian was masc LOL#an under the radar accursed or not accursed at all. still dont know
