This solar system is the main setting for the spaceship alien roommates Rutan, Vertex and Donelja. This is a draft I've been working on the past few months that's set in stone for the most part, but potentially could get some future adjustments. The planets don't quite have names yet.
To put the image summary in text: The Spectrum Solar System is the home to Rutan, Vertex and Donelja. It orbits a main sequence star that’s a bit larger and hotter than Earth’s Sun, and exists within the nebula where both galaxies of Broken Yolk impact. It’s a colony system with a higher population and sophant diversity than the average system due to having two Goldilocks zone planets, easily terraformable moons, and an abundance of metals to mine from two asteroid belts. Many immigrate here from neighboring systems into terrestrial or space colonies to enjoy the system’s abundant resources and rich multicultural societies.
A Rhodo Nation-inhabited sol system rich in resources often has continentoids, which are dwarf planet sized supermegafauna bioengineered by Rhodo scientists, because populating the universe with as much life as possible is a common and prominent core value of theirs. They are mostly found in the Goldilocks zone orbit or closer, in order to maximize access to starlight for photosynthesis. There are unique species in this system, and they’re the charismatic face of this system to the wider galactic community :)
For the trio of roommates, they usually take their ship to and from the Rhodo Nation colony to one of the Igneous Nation moons for Donelja's masaka taxon environmental conservation work. They also make trips to the Aurora Nation for reasons I'm not totally sure of besides Rutan likes traveling in it's metropolitan cities. Vertex mostly tags along complaining the whole time and wanting to hoard knick knacks.

a while ago you said that Starclan cats design kittens and customize them with patterns and colors from their parents genes. So, do the clan cats raise any eyebrows when it comes to people who know cat genetics? Is there a geneticist who is holding their head wondering how these two cats have this colored kit while their starclan designer was just playing around? Or do the Starclan designers still have to stay within the rules?
Basically, do the humans notice that some of these clan cats are sparkle cats lol
I try to not get too "lost in the weeds" since the humans aren't the focus of the story, just taking care that they DO have real motivations behind their actions rather than construction crews materializing out of nowhere to Do A Chaos, but...
First, the genetics of cats in Albion are different than humans in equivalent Great Britain.
Partially, this is because I honestly just don't really enjoy learning about in-depth genetics or applying them realistically. I like drawing anime characters and writing anime battles, so they have anime genetics. But more than that, off-screen, the intelligence of cats has altered the timeline of this world.
If cats really were capable of higher thinking, that totally would have had some butterfly effects. I like dropping crazy alt-history and then not elaborating on it, because it's funny. Archimedes' cat helped him invent a death ray, btw.
On that note of genetics though, you guessed right. StarClan designers DO have to work with what they have. Whatever the genetics of this alternate universe of cats are, every kit born still abides by the laws of nature.
Which brings me to...
Second, the researchers do notice that the Clan cats are special. In fact, there is a "study of magic" in this universe-- Thaumatology. "The science of wonder."
(There's no world where magic actually factually exists that science isn't all over it lmao)
Thaumatology facts I haven't shared so far since it's all offscreen and just Bonus Worldbuilding;
It is a "soft science," not a hard one.
It has a LOT of problems with replicability. Thaumatologists and Quantum Physicists have a lot of in-jokes.
The most well known (to the point of being a cliche) is "magic and quantum particles both hate being watched."
Magic is highly variable based on a bajillion very personal factors, like emotion, environment, culture, personal background, etc, so it's severely difficult to re-create it in controlled environments.
Thaumatology has a lot of overlap with sociology, archeology, and theology, so people from these fields work together a lot.
There was absolutely not a dedicated Thaumatologist working in the Research Team early on, sadly.
It was probably discovered when the Battle of the True Eclipse blew out a bunch of field cameras.
It's pretty common that photography equipment fritzes out a bit during "supernatural" times like eclipses, but the damage was extensive enough to be noteworty
The Clan cats were initially notable just for the fact they had advanced culture.
Cats are usually comparable to crows and monkeys, in this universe. So cats with fire and a crude writing system were enough to SHAKE the field of zoology.
The fact they're cats helped a lot. The public loves cats, enough that since their discovery after Speckletail attacked a bulldozer, massive outcry has secretly helped the Clans several times.
The discovery that the culture also has Thaumatological elements is more of a goldmine for a scientist than the public, though.
It's common knowledge that "animals are magic," because humanity projects traits onto them. "Of course they do, they're cats...?"
The Thaumatologist is freaking out because "THE CAT IS PROVABLY DOING ITS OWN THAUMATURGY"
Most people don't know the difference between Thaumaturgy (the functional work it does on the world) and Thaumology (the study of that as a whole), so this particular scientist is going to have a hard time explaining WHY this distinction is so special.
(And possibly even offensive to certain groups, who would insist only humans are capable of this)
In any case, eventually there would be Thaumatological interest in the Clan cats, but they weren't there in the mid to late 2010s when BB!ASC takes place.
#One of the things I like doing with The Researchers is making them relatable to my scientist friends lmaoo#So I like imagining the mundane reality of it all#There's exciting moments that make it all worth it-- but they have to grapple with budget a lot#Or their subjects breaking their equipment#Or an idea not working out the way they imagined it would#And trying to keep the public interested in their REALLY COOL PROJECT!!!#I was reading a paper on the swamp project in delamere and felt Incredibly Violent when i saw that they couldn't extensively re-wet one spo#Because there was a goddamn Go Ape Zipline#SCREW YOUR ZIPLINE OH MY GOD JUST MOVE IT#BITE BITE BITE BITE#''We could not remove the nearby patch of rhodo-motherfucking-dendron because a landowner thinks it's pretty :(''#1000000 US National Park Systems kill this man#Better Bones Au#Millie's Radio Collar

Today's 3H worldbuilding headcanon of the day:
How do the countries in 3H insult one another? Because as we all know, establishing how different groups insult and dehumanize one another in-universe is very important to worldbuilding.
Anyway.
First and most obvious types of insults would be animal-based insults, with each nation having their associated mascot animals. Adrestia gets "vulture," Faerghus gets "rabid/rabid cats/rabid kitties," and Leicester gets "snakes in deer's skin," with the implication being snakes = reptiles = wyverns = Almyrans = Leicesterians may as well be Almyran (barbarian, heathen, etc)
Second would be food-based insults. Includes both stuff about stereotypical cuisine (whichever region has surströmming would get "rotten fish breath") and mocking about food security. Ex: "Go munch on cattle feed"
Third, mocking accents and language. I guess the extent(?) of this one depends on whether you headcanon the nations as having different languages; I do, personally. And I expect most of it would mock the vernacular tongue used by commoners, rather than the posh ones used by nobles.
Fourth, accusations of sexual degeneracy, through exaggerations and distortions. Adrestians get "daughter-pimpers," in reference to the Imperial harem. Faerghans get "page-fuckers," in reference to the whole knighthood thing. Leicesterians get "cuckolds," with the obvious implication being that Almyrans fuck their women. (Also they probably have a myriad of creative ways to call each other gay, but that's just true so)
Finally, religion-based insults, frequently tied to big historical events in the continent. The War of Heroes would be a great fodder for those in the south to call northerners "descendants of sinners/dirty blood" or something along those lines. Meanwhile, the Official Church Lore™ claiming that the Elites and Nemesis were also given their Crests and Relics by the goddess would make them call southerners "second choice" or "half-baked" for supposedly being chosen but not even having Relics. (The exact wording would be a lot ruder of course)
There are probably insults for people considered too religious as well, albeit the origins and usage would be far more recent compared to the above. "Hrym zealots/terrorists" for those from the Empire, referencing the rebellion that got the Southern Church exiled. "Rhodos zealots/terrorists" for those from the Kingdom (especially the western part), referencing all the stuff Western Church was up to during canon. I... don't think there would be an equivalent for people from the Alliance though, the Eastern Church seems too weak to foster a strain of religious extremism that is both distinctly associated with Leicester and considered a threat to other Fódlanis*. But Leicester does get hit with extra pagan/heathen and "fake believer" accusations, again due to their proximity to Almyra + Alliance lords politicking
(*"other Fódlanis" is the key phrase, Adrestians and Faerghans wouldn't care if Leicesterians did religiously-motivated attacks on Almyrans or w/e. But Western Church or Southern Church causing chaos within their own countries would be a great excuse to point fingers.)
And obviously the funniest(?) part is that if non-Fódlanis learned of all this, they'd just go "that's crazy, you guys all seem the same to us though." It's always groups that have 90% of things in common saying the nastiest shit to each other, whether that's because they can't stand the 10% difference or because they hate looking in a mirror.

My lord, I’ve told you this story because of an urgent matter I came across just a few hours ago. *Hands him a tattered letter* This letter was written by Queen Yelena of Sreng, and she’s asking of us to form an alliance against the Church. Sreng’s borders are currently under attack, and despite her army being strong they can’t manage to push them back. In my opinion a deal with a foreign nation might present fruitful for future interactions. Still, the decision is up to you and Her Majesty...
Hm. Any such alliance would need to be decided between us, Ferdinand, and the professor, of course. The challenge, as usual, is in the logistics. The Kingdom territory is overseen by Cornelia, as reliable for our cause as a summer breeze. Moving a great number of our troops from her region to Sreng would leave the people of the Kingdom even more vulnerable to her corruption.
However... If the remnants of the Western Church could be incited to attack the sacred land on Rhodos Coast, we might draw away some troops from the battle in Sreng to handle that crisis without dividing our own strength.
It will need to be reviewed at the war table. I’ll call a conference immediately. Your report and the context surrounding it will be instrumental in our decision. Excellent work.

Oof sounds like a rough week, hope this helps <3 War Crimes - So the Exalt is hosting Naga’s power? How did that happen? And did he not care when Chrom was kidnapped? Spite Project - I adore the idea of Dimitri sitting in on chaotic Alliance Meetings, giving Claude alternate perspectives and maybe filling in some cultural gaps? Plus the thought of Dimitri bamboozling Faerghus Lords with political tactics he learned in the Alliance makes me laugh. Does anyone else know he’s safe in Derdriu? 1/2
I have no idea why this week has been going so badly what did I do
But yes in War Crimes the Exalt is housing Naga’s power, and doing so willingly no less. War Crimes is interesting because it draws a lot on Jugdral-era history, rather than just the history from Shadow Dragon on. Chrom’s father, who has always been a very religious man (just judging by the fact that he called his incursion into Plegia a “crusade”), and while Chrom was around 9 years old, he went around to various holy sites associated with Naga to curry her favor for his planned war. That included a very old church on the far side of the Longfort: Ferox itself isn’t a particularly religious nation, but there are a few pockets where people are, and in particular there’s an old site dedicated to Naga that particularly devoted Naga-worshippers make pilgrimage to.
And that’s where he found the Book of Naga. You know, the one Julia used in Genealogy to put a stop to Loptyr. Seeing this as a highly auspicious sign, the Exalt took the book back and had it authenticated by the priests in Ylisstol that yeah, this is the real thing. Elated by this fortune and considering it her ultimate show of approval for his cause, he has it enshrined in the halidom’s capital for all to see.
Now the Book of Naga, much like the Loptous Tome, contains a fragment of Naga’s will as much as it contains her power. And she starts exerting her influence over Chrom’s dad pretty quickly, such that she has a strong hold over him by the time Chrom’s 11. Naga and the Exalt, as it happens, have very similar feelings when it comes to Plegia and its population of Grima-worshiping heathens; after a bit of practice exerting control over his body (which he allows without hesitation), he demonstrates Naga’s power before the council and declares his intention to invade Plegia, which...well, they literally just saw proof of their divine in the man, how can they really oppose?
As for Chrom’s kidnapping...not really, honestly. The kidnapping itself was an act of desperation from the Plegians: the war is, by that point, in a deadly stalemate, and the only thing changing is the death toll. Their hope was that, in taking one of the Ylissean royals, they would be able to force a ceasefire and open discussions (they’d intended to grab Emmeryn, but since she was out, they went for the spare instead -- at 14 Chrom’s not too much of a threat yet, especially since they caught him sleeping); unfortunately, Naga sees this as an opportunity and turns the propaganda machine in her favor, announcing the Plegians’ cowardice and treachery before the halidom at large to goad her own soldiers into fighting harder. If they can rescue him, they get a morale boost and she ends up with an extra spare from her bloodline to utilize should something happen to the present Exalt; if he dies at Plegian hands, he becomes a martyr she can use to rally her troops further. It was basically a lose-lose for Plegia from the beginning, even if they didn’t know it at the time.
For Spite Project, Dimitri actually has a really interesting time at the round tables, watching Claude work his magic and listening to the different arguments and rationales from the various leaders. Privately after those meetings he and Claude end up talking a lot about the different styles of governance between the Kingdom and the Alliance, and Dimitri starts bouncing ideas off Claude in hopes of developing a new system for the Kingdom once he eventually goes back; Claude, personally, is delighted by this thought experiment and goes all in when it comes to offering advice and critique.
Since the Alliance is mostly trying to keep its neutrality, most of Dimitri’s discussions about Kingdom culture are to satisfy Claude’s personal curiosity; they’re not actively looking to make connections because that would very likely turn the Empire’s attention on them, and Claude can’t risk getting pulled into this war when their allegiances are so fractured. Understandably, since he’s still supposed to be dead, Dimitri tries to keep his head down when he sits in on those round tables...though there is one key point where he actually publicly berates the Great Lords of the Leicester Alliance to their faces and it’s great.
(Also, “what would Claude do?” becomes a bit of a mantra for Dimitri once the War Phase starts, and he definitely pulls some tactical stunts -- political and otherwise -- that not only flummox Gilbert and Rodrigue but make Claude very proud.)
But as it happens, the only person from the Kingdom who ends up finding out about Dimitri’s whereabouts before the War Phase begins is Dedue -- and he finds out because Claude and Judith work together to find him and bring him over. Within within the first year of Dimitri limping his way over to the Alliance, and likely within six months of him coming to Derdriu, Claude offers to help him get back to the Kingdom, reconnect him with Gilbert and Rodrigue so that he can start rallying the holdouts that remain within Faerghus...and Dimitri tells him, honestly, that he’s scared to go back. He’d already had a terrible night and kind of fell apart before Claude even made the offer, and when his friend voices it Dimitri confesses that he’s afraid to return -- not because it means he’ll be fighting against Edelgard, because fighting doesn’t scare him anymore, but because of what he’ll face from the people of Faerghus, how he’ll have all their hopes and expectations riding on him as soon as he reveals himself again, and he doesn’t think he’s strong enough to bear it all, and the thought of yet another failure is more than he can take.
So Claude tells him to stay in the Alliance, instead. As he explains, there are two key aspects to a kingdom: there’s the leader and the people. The ruler benefits from the support of the people, and the people benefit from the leadership of their ruler -- but those two aspects need to be in balance for the system to survive, because if the ruler demands too much of the people, they’re likely to rise up in rebellion and overthrow their leader; but if the people demand too much of their ruler, that leader will crumble and fail from everything forced upon them. From everything Dimitri’s told him by that point, Claude says that it sounds like the balance in Faerghus has been off for a long time, because this isn’t the first time Dimitri’s brought up the weight of expectations people put on him, seeing only the king-to-be and forgetting that their prince was a person who needed care. So Claude tells him, in no uncertain terms, that if Dimitri at any point wants to reconnect with the people in Faerghus, he’ll help -- but if Dimitri wants to stay in the Alliance and try to take care of the needs he’s been neglecting, he’s more than welcome to. Whatever he does, Claude will support him...so long as it’s Dimitri’s decision, for himself, rather than what he thinks other people want him to do.
This is the whole reason why Dimitri stays in the Alliance. Rodrigue, for all that he clearly cares for Dimitri, didn’t exactly help the poor kid with any of his trauma related to the Tragedy at Duscur -- he didn’t even help his own kid with that. He’s a good man, but his priority does seem to have been preparing Dimitri to take over as King of Faerghus, rather than caring for a traumatized child. Dimitri has a lot of trauma to deal with, and Claude gives him a chance to do just that, free of the pressures of expectation and future leadership, and it’s why he’s so much more stable and grounded by the time the War Phase starts: he’s actually had an opportunity to deal with things in a healthy way that doesn’t involve crushing and ignoring his problems.
And for Pokemon: I appreciate the input! I’m actually leaning more toward Water for Seteth at this point, because he does have strong connections to it: not only is he a frequent fisherman who formerly made his home near the Rhodos Coast (such that his wife is buried there), he’s far more adaptable and changeable than Rhea, recognizing the issues with the current system of Crest priority that Rhea ignores in favor of doing everything the way it’s always been done. Part of the reason why I’m so torn on Flayn being Grass or Fairy is because both types have a high incidence of healing moves: lots of fairies learn Aromatherapy, plus they have a very high instance of learning Wish to help their teammates. And technically Flayn‘s primary partner wouldn’t be a true legendary! Much like Phione, who you get by breeding Manaphy, Flayn and all the others that come from Sothis would be pseudo-legendaries: powerful, yes, but not on the scale of a true legendary and nowhere near as limited. It means they also wouldn’t get the off-the-wall crazy moves, though their stats alone would certainly contribute to some incredible power for use in both attack and healing.
I’m also very much on board with Dedue having lots of Grass types. He needs lots of them for all different things, and you just know that wherever you find a berry bush growing randomly in a place you’ve never been, he’s probably the one who planted it. (Also, him having a skittish apple in his pocket? Adorable.)
As for Ace Attorney, it depends on what you consider fun! I have a ton of old crazy stuff, but I’ve mostly pared it down into the Crime of Passion continuity (though I definitely still have thoughts about the bridge from AA3 to AA4, they’re just not as solid as my magnum opus). At some point even there I would love to bring Trucy in, though not in the same dire way she appeared in the flashback case: Phoenix wouldn’t be the one that got that case, and therefore wouldn’t be the one getting disbarred -- but he might happen across her while there’s a recess, and he would help her find the courtroom she’s looking for since she would quite clearly be lost when he stumbles across her.
Cut to a few days later and he sees the same girl sitting in the courthouse looking miserable, and finds out that her dad disappeared (and he would certainly be able to put together her being at the courthouse with the news that a defendant declared guilty vanished into thin air). Of course he offers to help and takes her to the station, but...well, it’s not fair to her to just leave her there. So he calls Miles up and asks him to swing by to pick them up.
This does become a rather comedic pseudo-argument about how Phoenix can’t just bring a stray child home (”she’s not a lost puppy, Miles, and also her name’s Trucy”), there are procedures to follow (”we can’t leave her at the station all night”), certainly she must have some family who can take her in (”she doesn’t have anybody she can call, not after the whole trial fiasco”), until finally Miles relents and agrees that she can stay one night.
(He also remarks that he doesn’t have a car seat, and Phoenix scoffs because she doesn’t need a car seat! ... ... ... only to look at Trucy and ask her “do you need a car seat?” to which she shrugs because she doesn’t know.)
Obviously she ends up staying more than one night and Pearl gets a little sister which she is thrilled about.

a study in stones!
for a while in my life now i’ve been heavily interested in gemstones, and minerals; i love the idea of creating gem/s/o/nas for characters, and applying different things based on their traits! but i’ve wanted to do this in a way that introduces the stones while also analyzing the characters and their strengths.
((i should also mention you may see similarities to others’ posts (like @bluemoonfantasiesiii !) because after reading them, i was motivated to write this, finally.))
so because she needs some love right now, i want to start this with a character i love: izuna nobel
izuna + rhodochrosite
mineral data:
Mohs hardness: anywhere between 3.5 - 4
Rhodochrosite is an often times pink, or red (sometimes even grey or brown) manganese mineral, which was first found in Romania in low-temp deposits. Banded ore can be found in Argentina, which has named this stone its national gem! It can be seen with vitreous luster, making it appear glassy, like quartz.
This gem is not easy to cut because it is soft and brittle, meaning its very rarely found in faceted jewelry, like a diamond.
name meaning:
Rhodochrosite is a Greek name, despite the mineral’s origins. It comes from the words rhodos, and khros, meaning ‘rose colored’. It can also be called the Stone of the Compassionate Heart, the Love Stone, or Rosa del Inca.
spiritual uses:
Pink stones are ones of unconditional love (rose quartz, spinel, etc) regardless, but rhodochrosite in particular is one of the strongest. It helps the heart and soul and helps us reach inner peace, and learning to embrace it.
Its a pure embodiment of selflessness and selfless love, and gives the person the strength to identify trauma, deeply buried feelings, and move on by finding new ways to cope with said trauma. It is a stone for personal action/will, self forgiveness, understanding, and compassion, as the nicknames imply.
relation to Izuna Nobel:
Izuna’s name can also be spelled as Iduna in English, which is a Norse name coming from the Goddess Idunn. She is the keeper of apples of immortality, and in some cases even related to fertility. Iduna as a name can commonly mean loving one, while Idunn can mean rejuvenating one.
Izuna is a very patient and kind person, which can be found in her relationships with other characters. She is open and trusting, regarding her own feelings and others’. In contrast with Shuuhei, she is not hateful towards vampires because she believes they can be trustworthy and good at heart; because of this, she is seen trying to help Shuuhei towards a better path, rather than one of revenge and hate. She understands his trauma and past, but her personality is one of gentle patience. Patience is one of the Holy Virtues, with the Deadly Sin being Wrath.
At her core, Izuna believes one cannot fight fire with fire. She is a character who wants peace above all, and wants to bring this out of her friends and comrades. She helped Shuuhei find a brighter path in his darkness, and helped him find his humanity, which was hidden by blind rage and unresolved trauma due to his father’s death.
She is extremely intelligent, but due to her own pure heart and trusting personality, she unknowingly gave C3 the power to further oppress vampires and subclass. She developed a number of stun-guns and weapons that harness sunlight or magic, and they were being used beneath her nose. Upon discovering this, she becomes incredibly saddened. She blames Ray’s injury on herself and her foolish creations, because she was told they were going to be used in different, humane ways. She is quick to alert the subclass of the weapons, and help them recover; even going so far as to build Ray a new arm after they make their escape from the collapsing C3.
Her contract with Wrath is a major piece of development for Izuna. She holds much self doubt and regret, and seems to blame herself for Shuuhei’s self-destructive path due to her position in C3. However, because of her personality and strength, as well as Wrath’s encouragement and faith in her, she turns this into a chance for her to help him find inner peace.
Izuna’s display of patience, unconditional love, and trust can also be seen again in her bond with Inner Wrath, who threatens her and challenges her to fight. This can be a direct nod to Shuuhei’s downfall, as well as showing Wrath and her’s morals. Even after Inner Wrath strips her, both mentally and physically, telling her to show her ‘true self’ and succumb to her rage, she chooses to dance with them. This soothes the demon and they reach an understanding. During this scene, Inner Wrath cuts her hair; she finishes this action and offers it as a contract item. Cutting one’s hair in such a drastic sense can often be a sign of great change and emotional development, moving on from the past and learning how to cope.
Izuna’s Major Arcana tarot is The Star, which symbolizes hope for the future and being in tune with feelings, spirituality, and the universe.
my personal thoughts, or TL;DR:
a big reason i came to love izuna nobel so much is due to her strength and personal humanity. she is a great example of a character who wishes to see the better in everyone, and even the darkest of situations. she is selfless and loving, and encourages her friends and loved ones to find peace, and the strength to move on in life; because the world never stops turning, and we need to find it in ourselves to carry on. rhodochrosite is a perfect embodiment of that, which is why i chose to align her with this stone.

Places i’ve visited
USA: San Francisco (7x), San Louis Obispo, Berkeley, Palo Alto, Sausalito, Santa Cruz, Saratoga, Lake Tahoe, Oahu Island (Hawaii, 2x) France: Paris (4x), Toulouse Spain: Barcelona (3x) Italy: Venice (2x), Verona Portugal: Lisbon Norway: Bergen, Stavanger Sweden: Stockholm Greece: Rhodos Island Austria: Salzburg, Graz, Klagenfurt Czech Republic: Prague Switzerland: Zurich Germany: Berchtesgaden National Park, Frankfurt, Offenbach, Hanau Hungary: Budapest Croatia: Islands Krk, Rab, Cres, Losinj, Hvar Serbia: Belgrade India: New Delhi, Agra, Bangalore
4 years of early childhood spent in the Middle East, more than just a travel ;)
places i'd love to visit once:
Scottish Highlands New Zealand Iceland Fårö Island (Sweden) Peru, Chile Thailand Africa in general
PS: Almost half the (European) places i've done in one 2 week trip alone, a train ride with Interrail Global Pass. If there’s one thing i miss the most due to the current worldwide situation it’s travelling and seeing new places and people. It gets me totally nostalgic cause the world is such a beautiful place and it’s sad, depressing and utterly boring when you’re mostly totally stuck to your own place. I really hope the situation gets much better next year, because it really feels like living in a post apocalyptic world right now, with all the restrictions, policies, bans. When you can’t even visit your closest relatives (whom you saw normally every month) due to risks. When an end of the world film actually becomes kind of reality. Hoping you wake up one day and it’s all back to normal.

Okay! I said I was going to write up all of my findings on the sources of the Fodlan names, and I’m gonna do it! Apologies to anyone who may have already done this.
I’m going to sort this by country/continent. If anyone knows a more plausible etymology for one of these names please let me know, most of these were found through basic Google searches so I’m likely missing a lot, especially since a LOT of these names vary a bit from their sources and I only caught some of the changed ones because I was already familiar with the original. I’ll also be updating this as time goes on since I also want to cover the noble surnames that aren’t on the map.
EDITS:
Thank you @Bae-leth for pointing out that I’d gotten Faerghus and Leicester switched :’D this is what I get for whipping a long post up in a frenzy at 1am.
Added etymologies for the three nations
Added some possibilities suggested by @sunshinequeen-theresa
This is a very long post:
Adrestian Empire: From Adrestia, daughter of Aphrodite and Ares, “she who cannot be escaped” and followed Ares into battle
Brionac: After wading through pages of results about Yu-Gi-Oh, Final Fantasy, and Xenoblade, I found a Xenoblade article suggesting that Brionac is a name attached to the spear of Lugh from Irish mythology that hasn’t really appeared anywhere outside of Japanese media
Arundel: The only hits for Arundel I got pertained to a few towns, but I hypothesize that it’s connected to Arondight, Lancelot’s sword
Remire: I found that Remire is the name of an island in Seychelles, which could be the etymology, but let me know if there’s something else out there
Oghma: Champion of the Tuatha De Dannan from Irish mythology
Varley: WIkipedia says that Varley is a surname- either English of Norman origin, or Irish or Gaelic origin (paraphrased from Wikipedia)
Airmid: A goddess from Irish mythology
Field of Gronder: When I put “gronder” into Google I was told that it means “to scold” in French; there may be another etymology but with so many names to get through I couldn’t hunt it down
Hyrm: Hyrm is the name of a Marvel comics Asgardian, but Hrym is a Jotun who captains Naglfar in Norse mythology, so it might be a misspelling
Bergliez: Berglez seems to be a German surname
Aegir: A Jotun of Norse mythology associated with the sea
Merceus: Seems to be a surname; couldn’t find much information on it
Hresvelg: Hraesvelgr was a giant that turned into an eagle in Norse mythology
Enbarr: A horse from Irish mythology that could run across water
Morgaine: An alternate name for Mogan le Fay
Rusalka: A Slavic feminine water spirit
Boramas: Borama is a major city in Somalialand, which could be the etymology, but let me know if there’s something else out there
Hevring: One of the daughters of Aegir and Ran from Norse mythology
Oche: Oiche is Irish for “night,” which seems to me more likely an etymology than “the line behind which darts players stand,” which is apparently what “oche” means
Nuvelle: All I could find was a laminate flooring company, so does anyone out there know what else it could mean?
Faerghus: Fearghus/Fergus is a common Scottish name, but I found a Saint Fergus, which might tie into Faerghus’s status as the Holy Kingdom
Teutates: According to a Roman poet, Teutates was a Celtic god of war
Rome: …Rome
Arianrhod: A Welsh goddess from the Mabinogion
Gaspard: A French given or surname, couldn’t find much more than that sadly
Magdred: I couldn’t find anything for Magdred, though a madrigal is a kind of Renaissance song?
Charon: Ferried the Greek dead across the River Styx in the underworld
Galatea: A statue brought to life by Aphrodite after its sculptor fell in love with it
Gideon: One of the Judges of ancient Israel
Rhodos: According to Wikipedia, Rhodos was the personification of the island of Rhodes, wife of Helios, possibly a daughter of Aphrodite
Sacred Gwenhwyvar: A Welsh spelling of Guinevere
Mateus: All I could find for Mateus was a kind of Portuguese wine, anyone else know an alternate source? EDIT: It has been suggested to be a variant of Mathaus, a German surname
Kleiman: Seems to be a German surname that just sort of means “short person"
Tailtean Plains: Named for Tailtiu, thought to be the name of a Irish goddess
Blaiddyd: A legendary Britonic king who encouraged the practice of necromancy, and whose son Leir was the inspiration for the play King Lear
Conand: Probably from an alternate spelling of Connacht, an ancient Irish kingdom
Fraldarius: Every hit on Google related to FE16 in some way, if anyone knows the source, please let me know!
Fhirdiad: A Connacht warrior and friend of fellow Irish legend Cuchulainn
Itha: All I can wildly guess is that it’s short for Ithaca from the Odyssey?
Gautier: Apparently a French variation of the name Walter
Leicester: According to Wikipedia, Leicester is one of the oldest towns in England
Kupala: An Eastern European summer solstice celebration
Edmund: Edmund, son of Duke Gloucester from Shakespeare’s King Lear
Derdriu: Another spelling of Dierdre, likely named for “Deirdre of the Sorrows” from Irish mythology (thank you FE Wiki)
Regan: Regan, daughter of King Lear
Gloucester: The Duke of Gloucester from Shakespeare’s King Lear
Goneril: Goneril, daughter of King Lear
Ordelia: Likely named for Cordelia, daughter of King Lear
Myrddin: The Welsh spelling of Merlin
Ailell: Wikipedia has it as the name of various Irish kings and abbots
Daphnel: I couldn’t find a source for this one, if anyone knows please let me know! EDIT: It has been suggested to be based on Daphne, a nymph who was turned into a laurel tree in Greek mythology
Continents:
Fodlan: Fodla was a major Irish goddess, and Fodla was occasionally used to reference Ireland itself
Sreng: A champion of the Fir Bolg from Irish mythology
Albinea: Sounds like it comes from Albion, and old name for the island of Britain
Brigid: An Irish goddess
Morfis: Morfis and Morfi are apparently surnames (Morfis might be Cypric, not sure baout Morfi), and I couldn’t find any details about them and I suspect this one is actually another reference to Irish, Welsh, or Britonic legends
Almyra: The closest possible etymologies I could find were Almira (a German opera) and Almyros (an ancient Thessalonian city)
Surnames not on the map:
Bestla: Mother of Odin from Norse mythology
Molinaro: An Italian surname meaning “miller"

Alegoría de la castidad, do. 1505, de Lorenzo Lotto (Veneciano, c. 1480 - 1556/1557), óleo sobre tabla, en general: 42.9 x 33.7 cm, enmarcado: 65.6 x 56.2 x 7.9 cm. Colección Samuel H. Kress, National Gallery of Art.
