hellohello! i'm making a game collection post for this week about games centering around beetles :]

the games will be formatted as such: an image from the game, the game name, an excerpt from the game page, content warnings if needed, and where to play the game. this is just somethin' more laid back than recording a video for this week ^^

all these games are free to play!

Carapaces!!!!

RC / Raptorial Clerk: RC is one of the archivist on Prospit who deals with mainly Prospit's history and keeping things neat and tidy (just in case if it's needed then carapaces can go to him and retrieve that information) there's other archivists for different sections of society like political, economical, etc. When Midnight City happens / fall of the kingdoms he ends up being a librarian teehee

his origins: and due to his specialties being historical archiving, he's in the same department or area as HK and the two are actually hatch friends!!! YAYYYYY!!!! (they are both smiling)

HN / Harbinger Newel: Newel is just the sort of look the outpost tower he's situated at looks like as seen in the small doodle. He just blows his clarinet looking instrument (i giggle since he choses to play the actual clarinet in CMS) when there's some arrival. There's a certain tune he plays depending on what it is. Enemies/Derse army or Prospit army / workers.

WN / Willowy Notary: She's basically some note taker for court records and such. The cloth covering her eyes is a form of "judgement solely based on the case itself" rather than having any bias (that and I wanna continue her lil "no eyes can be seen" thing going on :D. So like she sits in the court room (grinning so wide when i get to share their architecture and infrastructure) and notates what happens and is being said so that if the case needs to be continued/looked at later to come up with the "right" decision they have a reference. Or if there's important documents being signed and such, she's a witness. (like whatever actual notaries do)

MG / Monoceros Goliath: I thought I was gonna be so smart with the first word, tried searching up for a word to describe a horned animal or synonyms for rhinos (cuz haha helmet rhino beetle) but i got no answer(s) and the ones I did related mainly to constellations. Monoceros mainly just being some Greek word for a legendary animal with a horn so like a unicorn. Weeps guys I'm not cut out for elaborate names.

Also she's (so far) a pawn mainly or somewhere near being a rook but not quite there hence being goliath as she's pretty strong/big for a pawn yay. oh yes and she's well aware of innocent lives (aka farmers or pawns that aren't in either army) and so she'll send out a warning or make it known so said carapaces can evacuate/gtfo (both for Prospit and Derse). Like she wants to make it fair and also avoid unnecessary bloodshed. Or something like that cuz overthinking on it makes me think it sounds silly and odd.

Her armor does have some little pearl-like beads cuz why not :) and- and- and it's supposed to be like constellations with the metal engravings (that im too simple minded to give detail to)

Tallest soldier i have and the shortest (also! I had realized that Dynastinae is, THE SCIENTIFIC NAME FOR RHINO BEETLES OAUGRHAUGHRA clawing at my under eyelids (ive realized this while typing this all out <3) so it's either she's MG or DG

SH / Splendorous Headhunter: Basically she goes out and recruits or finds Dersites (who don't already have a job) some role in society that benefits both the community and themselves. Like she's not just going to randomly assign them jobs but try to understand the individual and go suggest jobs. Cuz like, there's of course other Dersites in this similar role (as her) that don't care. But to SH she thinks of it like "why would I make someone miserable, it makes no sense to force someone to do a job they dislike cuz work won't get done at an efficient rate" that and so there's no strikes-

CC / Canorous Clergyman: just listen to this: (and Powerwolf in general please guys oaughh I fucking love this band so so so so so so much)

Midnight Madona teehe i love Powerwolf so much oaugh my goodness (so much so i would've done gone gatekeep em but then i realized. that's corny. and this sorta genre??? is corny on its own in the best way possible, to me :)). but yes im just adding this here because i kept listening to it when drawing this mf

Midnight Madona (Orchestral Version) also the orchestral version fucking ROCKS (and all the other songs they do orchestral versions of) and is what I like to imagine Derse's choir would sound like (the tone or feeling more than the words teehee and of course not with a big ass orchestra track behind ok you know what I MEAN) like do to around the same time stamp as the version above gehehee

I also already kinda explained his whole deal in a previous post. here be CC. But basically, he's more of a figure for individuals to look to either for help or a sense of "oh so this is what we should be doing for our society". So yeah, he's like, the royal family lol, no real political power as he's a lower status bishop. Like, he's a Bishop for the individuals, to ensure they fall in line and yadda yadda support the community and all. Kinda like, a pastor lol

KH / Kinetoscopic Hallucinator: Due to Derse being, ya know, Derse, connections with these fuckassers (horrorterrors) is prone to happen. As we've seen with players and even Feferi having gigglybob and yay yadda Derse Void dreamers yadda. Basically he gets to listen to all the wonderful stories of the past these eldritch beings share with him. Whereas Prospit gets those lil clouds from Skaia to hint at the future. So, he takes the words and stories from horrorterrors as signs of "precautions" or warnings of what may happen in the future. A sort of doomsday gig going on.

Teehe. He still gets to deal with trying to predict Derse's future but that's a bit hard on him so he turns to memorializing Derse's past, and the Horrorterrors give him information that can precede Derse or even what was missed from its history. But it's mainly just them messing with him going "oooh Derse is doomed in the foreseen future! OoooOoooh" and he goes "aight bet" then boom red miles upon ye. Oh and the kinetoscopic thing is just the fact he has his own lil kinetoscope where he enjoys (the process not the actual fact he needs to listen to them) trying to figure out what the Horrorterrors tell him and depicts it as short stories and then draws frames for a lil animation. He just replays them only to get a sense of dread lol. Later on just outcasts himself in his tower to deal with the horrorbobs instead of looking like a loon in front of everyone, possibly to Derse's moon because ahA obvious motifs! of like, the horrorbobs keeping him chained down and yeahhh

It's basically the medium or locations for Sburb/Sgrub but at the moment I'm more focused on Carapace + etc instead of trolls and humans. I ain't no physic astronomer or something so I'll go back and change things up if it's needed but like, I can bs some stuff right??? yeaaahhhhh.

The idea is like I know it's made for the game but what if no game??? It still very much takes after the set up for the medium with Sgrub but woe upon yet.

The locations of Prospit and Derse is why HK (Historiographic Knitter) and KH (Kinetoscopic Hallucinator) are able to look into the future/past. Due to the locations of their respected planets

HK being on Prospit can receive snippets of the future but it's all randomized so it's like she needs to put it all together, or just write down what she sees. She uses these to make stories or piece them together then create textiles for them along with the stories recorded of the past

KH being on Derse, yeah you read his gig.

Skaia: Trying to deal with what the point of Skaia is for both sides. I think I'll go with it's just been so embedded in both societies to either protect or destroy it that carapaces at this point just need to continue what their ancestors had fought for. Honestly, I'm just going to go with Jack Noir doing his red miles thing and destroying Prospit and Derse then killing (almost) all soldiers and the Kings on the battlefield leaving Skaia dormant. (But then whYYyy would he do that in this context)

Midlay: Basically this version's planet of where exiles go and where Midnight City will soon be made.

The Veil: just asteroids to make traveling to and from Prospit and Derse to be dangerous-ish so it's not like carapaces can just go to the opposing planet and cause chaos. If it's really needed then there's only a handful of carapaces suited for that job.

Dream Bubbles: I know it's thanks to Feferi that they're a thing, so they're not a part of this actual universe, BUT I thought they were just cool to include where I think they'd go.

In terms of like biology/features of carapaces:

I'm going with Carapaces either being like RC where they got them bug-wuggy/crusty marine life features or like HK with a more chess-come-to-life sort of look, thinking it might just be from the cloning? or however these freaks are made getting fucked over with the system or something, just cuz it could be like "oh it derives from chess pieces but also some bug-crustaceans-alien thing" and sometimes the bug-crustacean just wins. It's totally not so I can shit and giggle with other designs and stuff, what??? no. And then of course carapces can have spawn of their own, but lay eggs yadda yadda and so some of these features can get passed down and such. It's just cloning is used in both kingdoms to ensure there's a steady flow of carapaces to work on the planets or get thrown into battle and yeah.

NOTE AS OF NOW: I just copied and pasted information i had saved on them all and so I will most likely go back and fix things up, or make a new post if it's anything major like "Oh I'm changing this character up" but yeAH

Quick Into The Deep Q and A!

I got a few questions here to answer about Into The Deep! Thanks to @dexter-the-dog for sending these in! And if anyone reading this has any other questions about this fanseason, feel free to send them! I love to hear them! Now, let's get started!

(Question 1: What is the Insectoid Army?)

Great question! I actually made a post on them not to long ago. But some of that information is outdated now. So I'll make this the new reference for them!

The Insectoids are a swarm of bug like warriors that hail from the deepest reaches of Primeval's Eye! Their society is formed similar to ants and bees. There are different classes such as soldiers and workers. Soldiers tend to be more heavily armored, and also have different sub classes, depending on what type of armor or defense adaptions the soldier has. Insectoids are based of many insects. Like praying mantises, rhino beetles, and dragonflies! The Insectoids are ruled by a single queen and they all live together in a hive.

Thousands of years ago, the Insectoids were attacking villages and stealing their crops. Wu and Garmadon were called in to help stop them. Somehow, the brothers managed to trap them in The Amber Tree! (This tree is talked about a bit in the official Ninjago short story Amber Spiral.) The Insectoids became frozen in the tree's sap for thousands of years. They are later awakened by Vangelis. They help aid him in his plot to overthrow Shintaro and become King again. Some notable Insectoid characters you can look forward to are listed here;

Queen Ocellex: The leader of the Insectoids and a blood thirsty conqueror. She is the largest Insectoid and most powerful. Her head sports a large pair of horns, and she has praying mantis like front limbs. While she is bloodthirsty, she cares deeply for her hive. Vangelis promises her territory for her people to take control of, in return for her helping him take over Shintaro.

General Torrlax: Ocellex's highest commanding officer. He is distinguishable from the other Soldier Insectoids by a large scar over the right side of his face, along with a blind eye. He takes his job very seriously, and won't let anything stop him from completing his goals. He will use any means necessary to achieve them. He's very close with his younger brother Mandorax, one of the few people he's actually soft and caring towards.

Mandorax: Torrlax's younger brother and his right hand man. He's much shorter and stockier than Torrlax, and he has huge mandibles. Hence his name. (A mixed up version of the word mandible.) Mandorax is heavily armored and can roll into a ball to crush enemies like a pill bug. He's also not very bright, but Torrlax is convinced he's a military genius! Most of his shows of this intelligence are however, just very perfectly timed coincidences. But it's enough to convince Torrlax! Another interesting trait Mandorax has is that he's uncharacteristically gentle for an Insectoid.

(Question 2: What is Cole's Grandpa's role in this story?)

Cole's Grandpa takes on a few roles! He's a teacher, warrior, and guide through Deep Lands for the team! He also serves as a connection to Lilly for Cole. The two bond over missing her, and learn things about each other and the Earth Tribe through it! Although, Cole's Grandpa hasn't quite delt with his grief of losing Lilly in as healthy a way as Cole. This eventually leads to some brief conflict. (Family angst, my beloved.🤣) He's also the very last chief of the Earth Tribe! So he has that role as well!

(Question 3: Where is the Jaya wedding going to be held?)

This question made me think actually! Initially, I was going to have the whole thing held at the Monastery. I felt like the place was special to everyone and it was the place he proposed. So it seems to fit!

But I think the reception party is going to be held at a new location never seen in the show! A really beautiful beach side event hall and ballroom in Ninjago City! I already know how it will look, but I have yet to name the place. Ideas are welcome!

Giyu General Headcannons

I'm back! I celebrated my birthday this Saturday and now I have second degree burns when I just wanted breakfast this morning… and I was supposed to have a midterm tomorrow…….. and now I am typing everything with one hand while writing in pain…………

But for now here's some Giyu Headcannons! Requests and asks are still open ^^

So let's talk about Giyu

Everyone is so quick to judge this man and label him as "boring" or "stoic" and while those claims aren't necessarily false, I think we need to give Giyu a bit more credit

He's just really fucking tired, like all the time

Shinobu often teases Giyu and encourages him to lighten up a bit in hopes that he's seen as more open or approachable to his peers, but his efforts don't necessarily work the way that he intends

He's awkward in a where where he just has no clue what he's doing, ever

Giyu is the epitome of waving back at someone only to realize that they were greeting the person behind you

Like you could tell him about your awful morning and end it off by thanking him for listening, but the phrases "your welcome" and "no problem" will get jumbled in his head and he'll just stutter out a "your problem" instead

What's even worse about it is he'll just walk away in embarrassment

It's not an understatement by any means to say that Giyu is an introvert, but he really does value his personal time

A lot of it he spends self-regulating, and he doesn't usually want anyone around while he's doing that

Giyu doesn't talk about it but he keeps a mental checklist of things that he should do throughout the day to retain himself

He actually gets pretty upset if they go wrong

For an example. Giyu developed a routine where he makes tea in the comfort of his engawa and he knocked the cup over, spilling it onto the soil below

He was pretty harsh on himself all day because of it, even walking away from Rengoku wordlessly when he tired to incite Giyu our to eat with him

Giyu's not emotional, rather than he has a lot going on mentally and even the smallest mistake he makes can incapacitate him for the rest of the day

He would rather self-isolate until he feels better instead of bringing down his friend's moods just because he's not in a good mindset

He also journals, paints, reads, and goes on walks to help cheer himself up

Giyu doesn't really advertise that he does any of this because as I mentioned, he really values that time to himself

Would happily join someone if they invited him to do any of these activities though

Usually on his good days, he'll spend time with Shinobu, Sanemi or Rengoku and might even crack a smile or two if they're lucky

He especially likes hanging around Sanemi's estate, listening intently as Sanemi shares about the rhino-beetles he's been raising

Giyu and Shinobu find it very fascinating

What sucks is that Giyu's bad days are really incapacitating, sometimes he just spirals at the end of the day because he reaches an "I did what I supposed to, why am I still feeling like this?" mentality

I wasn't kidding when I said he can be really harsh on himself

The best way to offer help to Giyu is to offer to sit with him

His love language isn't quality time, but he really does appreciate the opportunity to just exist in a space with someone without the expectation that the two of you need to talk or anything

If he does talk, really take the time to listen

Giyu rarely enjoys speaking for a long time, and usually just communicates by sharing the most impactful or practical information in the shortest sentence possible

Really think about what he's saying and respond accordingly

But now would be a really good time to reassure him that he's not wasting time or anything, as words of affirmation is his love language

Giyu is most definitely neurodivergent, and usually copes with his depression by trying to reaffirm a sense of control in his life

Although most people would do this by assuring that they have a choice at any given opportunity, Giyu on the other hand accomplishes this by organizing himself as much as he can

This doesn't always mean that his home is spotless or his hair is brushed, but it does usually mean that he schedules his day so that he rarely has anything incomplete

But there are those times where everything hits too hard and all he can do is lie in bed all day, watching the shadow of the leaves outside swaying in the breeze, creating a kaleidoscope of light on the ceiling of his room

If you noticed that you haven't seen Giyu in a day or two, try visiting his home with some food

He won't always let you in because there's probably a mess that he's putting off to clean

But he will remember that for a long time, and most likely return the favour if he has the opportunity to

Stepping away a bit from the angst, Giyu's journal looks super cool

His handwriting isn't usually legible so it's a bit hard to read, but he likes doodling stuff about the things that happened that day or keeping objects in between the pages

Like when he and Shinobu both spent time with Sanemi to see his rhino beetles, Giyu tried drawing Sanemi's favourite one

He even gave it a little leaf as an umbrella in his drawing since it was raining that day

Giyu also asked Shinobu to teach him flower pressing so he can preserve the daises Mitsuri gave him

So there it's kept, in between the pages of his overflowing journal with several other memorabilia

Also speaking of flowers, Giyu is shockingly good at taking care of plants

He actually can't fathom why because he often forgets to water them and doesn't exactly keep them in an optimal spot in his house

Rarely checks up on them due to all the missions Giyu's on

But not only are those plants alive, but they're thriving

Shinobu's actually jealous about how healthy his plants are, and when she tries to interrogate Giyu on what secret method he's using on them he just shrugs and says "I don't know, maybe it's because of the season? I have no clue"

He will admit that they should've died so long ago

But they do bring hope to Giyu, on those days where he can't seem to do anything he remembers his plants and that because they've lasted this long, then maybe he will be okay after all :)

Wings of Fire: Reign of Ruin Pantalans #1

(As the pantalans are more insectoid in my story)

Hivewings are based on wasps, bees, and hornets, with a hint of rhino beetle. Unlike the other pantalans, any hybrids with Pyrrhian dragons (pantalan hybrids are fine) are always infertile.

They still have four wings, but they fold into their chitin like beetles’, two to six eyes (although only royals have six), incredibly strong chitinous armour, and incredibly strong prominent mandibles. They all have stingers on either their wrists or tail- tho royals have both. And they have rhino beetle like front horns, royals’ are the biggest. Royals have some gold on their chitin, whilst others cant have it, and stronger paralyzing neurotoxins in their stings. The queen still has hivemind abilities, but this is only used during war, as when she’s done she dies.

They buzz like bees as well when worried or excited, have strong senses of smell, and one of the castes can even produce honey! They are mostly carnivores, but willeat pollen and fruits for honey production.

Hivewing young are borne wingless and blobby- kinda more larvae like than the dragons they will eventually be- and all except for the royal ones are borne in a big nursery hive. They are soft, and only have faint hints of chitin in this state, and only two big weak eyes, and wing stubs. In their final shedding of larval skin they gain their wings, and their caste traits show. The babies are cared for, and eat honey, by a large group of caretakers (only from ONE of the castes).

Oh yeah, castes haha…

In order from highest rank / most important society perception wise lol- but also with the least members to most: Royals, Warriors, Workers, Drones.

PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES:

Royals: Bigger, bigger horns, golds and metalics, six eyes, larger wings, smarter in general, SHINY, very graceful looking, spirally / curvy horns. royals can only give birth to royals, and no other caste (drones give birth to all the other castes)

Warriors: Second biggest, bulkiest, strongest and slightly sharper looking carapace, darkest coloured (for camoflague, biggest and strongest mandibles, best dark vision, straighter horns, four eyes

Workers: Second smallest, shorter and stronger legs, tiny horns (not the beetle ones normal ones), smaller wings but fastest fliest- best at quick turns, biggest range of colours- but very muted, two or four eyes

Drones: Smallest, usually no horns except for the beetle ones, only two eyes, tiny wings, very dull colours- and only oranges and yellows, kinda fragile looking but still good at carrying things, no stingers

SOCIETAL DIFFERENCES / TREATMENT:

Royals: Pretty much considered gods- they have lots of drone servants each, the queen most of all. They only have a layer in the biggest hive- and its on the very top, greatly decorated with lots of fresh air and sunlight. They have the most freedoms, and are the only ones (other then specific warriors, and caretaker workers) who are allowed to move between layers and hives whenever they want, and spesk with visiting dignitaries (apart from giving directions). They receive the best foods and waters, and are the only ones other then babies that are allowed honey. They are trained from birth in diplomacy and leadership. They have their own small nursery.

Warriors: They live in the highest level of all but the royal hive (second layer on that one), with quick access to the sky if needed. They spend their days patrolling, training, and standing guard. They are allowed on all layers, but can’t leave the hive they’re in to go to another without express permission from royals. The most important warrior in each hive even gets drone servants. They have significant authorities over the lower castes, and get the best weapons and armours, and the second best foods to maintain strength. However they have the most controlled regimented lives.

Workers: They live in the middle levels, with modest living spaces. They don’t have much free time, busy repairing, crafting, caring for larvae, or preparing food. They don’t have much authority, but are greatly respected for keeping the hives running- as well as producing honey.

Drones: They live in the lower levels- biggest darkest, yet most cramped. Yet usually have the most free time when not doing manual labour. They carry heavy loads for workers, gather food, or the lucky ones may serve warriors or royals (and get quarters for their families in their layers, albeit less fancy). They also all participate in the breeding cycles, being the only caste capable of reproducing other than royals. Their food is pretty bland, and they have the least freedoms. They are NOT allowed to touch weapons. Most drones accept their fate... after all, what else have they ever had…?

ROLES / JOBS:

Royals: The queen, heirs (potential future queen- fight to the death for rule if the queen dies before she chooses who rules next), advisors, diplomats.

Warriors: Generals, foot soldier, royal guards, trainers, enforcers (basically the police), and scouts (protects the outsides of the hives)

Workers: Engineers, resource managers, nursery workers, cooks, builders, artisans, honey producers.

Drones: Labour drones (heavy lifting), servants, breeders.

Interpreting the bugs in Welcome Home (Masterpost)

I made a series here going over all the bug symbolism of the critters in the Welcome Home update. They seem to be important as they appear everywhere, almost as frequently as eyes or spiral imagery. They are all over the site, leading users to video clips from the show, and they’re prominent even in the guest book, with one of the doodle-responses being simply, “I like bugs”. I do too, and I hope this brings insight to theorists working to crack the case of these odd puppets.

What scares them ! Dlicti and Bucket are similar in that they both default to freeze as a fear response. Fight, Flight, Freeze, Faun, so they might not immediately read as scared when something happens.

Dlicti is affraid of clowns. Highbloods in general will probably make her freeze up any time she sees them for a long time coming, even unfamiliar ceruleans, maybe even some particularly haughty teals. Dlicti is like Plexus too in that she hypoventilates rather than hyper. The way she survived slavery was to just. Stop. They'll leave eventually.

Yeah I think all her fears revolve around the circus, carnival, clown faith in general. She is affraid to go out in public, not because she is scared of people, but because she is scared of highbloods. She was just minding her business when she was cornered, kidnapped, and enslaved. She'll probably be on alert outside her home for the rest of her life. She also avoids public for another reason. Its just easier. She doesn't remember much from her life before, and she has exclusively had social interractions in the form of hushed conversations with the few other slaves shed met, scrawled memos by the ur-clown she tended to, and the wordless interractions with her savior, and that wierd little seadweller.

Said seadweller is so wierd that she barely considers him a highblood. Really he basically isnt in everything but his blood itself. all of the traits that the highbloods she is afraid of have aside from the blood are absent in him. hes just a little guy. auuugh detheo is just a little guy. Her therapy cat. Hes her exposure therapy.

I think Dlicti likes the rain but is afraid of heavy storms. The whole carnival she lives in is pretty storm susceptible... She lives in a performer's trailer after all. I think she got help from the NNantis to move her trailer to more solid ground- a concrete or stone brick platform under a shelter near the cave that the Ur-Clown was buried under.

She also has an intense aversion to insects. Specifically the kinds associated with unclenliness like roaches, flies, and to an extent ants. She cant have those kinds of bugs touching her most of the time. In general though the bigger and slower the bug the more ok it is. Scarab beetles and Rhino beetles are her besties. She loves butterflies though prefers large moths and the duller colored ones, she loves bees, though prefers hornets and bumblebees, and hates honeybees.

She also has an intense aversion to rotten food and has definitely thrown out some perfectly fine food just under suspicion that it was too ripe.

She is bad at verbal socialization. She prefers text and whatever her local cat men have going on.

I think she is also super averse to touch for a long long time. Detheo likes being petted and likes using her as a basking spot when shes not moving/hj though and because of his small size compared to her its actually kind of calming. You need to be very ok in her book to be deemed safe though.

I think she's also. Scared of ghosts.

Bucket fears... The empire. Staying how she is right now forever. The grind. She's afraid of herself staying alive, shes afraid of her friends dying, shes more afraid of her friends leaving her behind. Dissapearing on day to participate in a bright future she could never be a part of. Something that has happened before. Something that will happen again.

Dehorner, she fears death... she fears helms and losing people to the empire. Her crew. She sees Helms as an extension of the empire. One of their instruments of consumption. Its ironic that she is an executioner... She does a lot to keep her crew safe. That includes the faked cullees (alt) who hide in her vessel. If she is ever caught out, she will be going down with the ship, and she will be the only one on it. Shes scared one day that she'll drop down to Alternia, or any of the other brood worlds, and find nothing but a smoking crater where once were her underground associates. Something that has happened before. Something that will happen again.

Ah, yes, may I have a Fun Fact?

Today You Learned about the Big Five!

The term was originally made for hunting, but it referred to the five animals on the African savannah that were the most difficult to hunt and bring down. Now, obviously, with killing wild animals for sport being thankfully much less popular with the general public, as well as a general awareness that these species should be protected, the term now generally refers to these five animals as the ones that tourists and photographers should want to see while they're out in the savannah. They are, after all, five iconic animals.

The Big Five are: the elephant, the rhinoceros, the lion, the leopard, and the water buffalo.

Of course, in order to raise awareness of creatures that aren't so famous, and get people more into African wildlife, conservationists also made a list called 'The Little Five'. I honestly thought this was made up for Kratts' Creatures, but no, it's a real thing, and it's five animals that act as counterparts to/have names related to the Big Five.

The Little Five are: the elephant shrew, the rhino beetle, the antlion, the leopard tortoise, and the buffalo weaver.

INSECTOID INSPECTION #2 | Flik

Flik is the protagonist of A Bug's Life, a movie created by Pixar in 1998. As A Bug's Life is more beloved for its story than it's character designs, I'm going to assume nobody's going to pull out a pitchfork when I say that I just don't generally like this guy.

Let's delve into why, though. 1 | -

Accuracy:

Well... he has bent antennae. And three segments, including an abdomen. And general plating to show he has something resembling an exoskeleton.... but let's acknowledge the elephant in the room. His disgusting, moist, doll-like human eyes, his cow-like dental dams, his legs that sprout from his abdomen... The fact that he's a "male worker ant", while also being a potential suitor to the princess....

You can tell he's supposed to be an ant, at least. The design is not trying particularly hard to be accurate, but some things (like the legs coming out of the abdomen) are just enough to possibly trick people who are really ignorant about how bugs work, and I feel the need to dock harder on things that could misinform people. 1.5/5

Aesthetic:

It's high quality for the capabilities of 3D animation back in '98, but I think this movie should have been a 2D cartoon. Making Toy Story was an excellent move for pixar at the time because that's what this style is best suited for-- making things look like toys. This guy isn't a bug, he's a plastic sculpture. You could call this a part of the limitations until you look at Hopper, who is a very well designed character in comparison.

They could've done so much better with this- just give him some texture, fix up his face, and move his legs back onto his thorax and he'd be fine, but no, for some reason this was considered most marketable. 0.5/5

Amusement:

Okay, so... I was generally okay with his character as a kid, but the older I get, the more annoyed I am with how much of a chronic failguy he is. I like inventors, I like guys who are a bit clumsy (hell, C3PO was my favorite character when I was young), but the plot hinges on him fucking up nearly every step of the way. It gets tiring, and I hate humor based on secondhand embarrassment.

In this case, I'd probably like him more if he weren't a horribly inaccurate bug, but I'd still prefer him as a side character as opposed to a protagonist. 2.5/5

Attunement:

A Bug's Life has a very cartoonish take on what bugs get up to when humans aren't watching -- which is fair, considering it's a film for children. There are no humans in the film, and the only references we get to humans existing come in the form of "the big city" being composed of human trash-- I find the concept to be fun and clever. The anatomical and societal differences between species perplex me, however. For instance, some bugs have six limbs, while others have four. Why are rhino beetles less intelligent and less anthro than other species? This isn't a matter of insects vs arachnids, there's just no consistency besides "the designers felt like it".

It's a little interesting, but it doesn't compel me because there clearly wasn't a lot of careful thought put into it. Overall, this highlights my primary problem with the film: A Bug's Life simply is not a story about bugs. That doesn't undermine its message, which I don't begrudge, I just get a bit annoyed when people consider it The bug film of all time. 2.5/5

Maybe that's not a hot take, but I've had a number of people be surprised when I say I'm not super into it.

I've been enjoying this arc a lot more than most have, tapi itu mungkin gara² nonton bareng temen jadi lebih sronok gituh. Tambah lagi kita berdua lebih melihat bbb sebagai comfort show jadi santuy baek

And this is me watching this series alone.

Personally, that episode was a blast! There are soooo many ideas interpreted way more interesting than I thought!

At first, I wanna wait till the final episode aired cuz hey, Monsta directly released a trailer titled "Kemuncak Windara" for their final two episodes before the TV promo for the newest episode launched.

But since next week will be stacked with this and Shadow Gens prologue, I decided to give my thoughts on this episode first so I will do more analysis later.

In my humble opinion, I thought that trailer was for this week's episode. Inner me literally jumped on a bed when I saw that yellow disc showcasing all elements and Oboi(in Taufan's mode) wearing his Windara armor.

Did it turn out to be a disappointment later on?

Huuhh, that was an interesting question.

The whole episode was truly entertaining and it made me almost forget that important part of Windara's comic arc...until the end of the episode.

Now that I think of it, I actually don't mind with just two elementals in action. Sure I was a bit sad not to see all of them on screen :'(. But if this is a chance to give everyone more screen time, then so be it.

And Honestly? Monsta nailed it beyond my expectations!

Right off the bat, I was immediately impressed with how well they animated the airship battle from start to finish smoothly without any frame drops or adding unnecessary effects for animation efficiency. They could do that, but they choose to not do it. It's full of big moving objects from a TV stand point and it left me an awe.

They maximize their limit to the top with the choreographic fight and still find a new way to use Kokotiam's new armor.

One of their surprising elements is the way to utilize Yaya's shield. Instead being treated more less like Cap's shield, Monsta creatively expand her details as more or less inspired by Ironman.

Now I can see why Yaya as a Lady Bug. Her back can be split apart as a shield or her thruster arms. Pretty effective without losing a touch from the comic book.

Oh, speaking of which, Boboiboy's suit up really reminds me of Tony's suit up transformation in Ironman 3!

I kinda didn't recognize Ying's resemblance. Is it Hornet or Dragon fly? Either way, those are perfect for Ying as she essentially zip around the castle with her speed to fight enemies.

Rhino Beetle was an interesting choice for both Fang and Gopal. Sure some people might upset, and I can see why. But at the same time I also understand Monsta's vision with this replacement.

One control the hands, the other controls the feet(oh wait, Gopal have both hands and feet. Only Fang use hands) . And as expected, their big and solid armor could turn into a giant ball and perform a bullseye slingshot to General Karumbang.

I highly appreciate Reramos new entrance. They went bold to not holding back with all that spider look(look at that details!) . I genuinely get some goosebumps with some scenes. The sound design was perfectly encapsulates the ambience.

His voice? Oh, *chef's kiss* 😎👍

Honestly I am really excited but I'm also have to lower my expectations for the final episode. This need to be proceed with caution cause the tide will turn from here.

Haller asks for a new mutant pickup in Boston; Quentin responds and drafts Darcy to come with him and Madin; Darcy texts Doug from the car, deeply unimpressed with her traveling companions; in Boston, the group meets Ben Russell/Shatterstar who is reluctant to come with them but ultimately agrees; Madin and Shatterstar talk powers and swords while waiting for Quentin to finish his X-Factor Investigations work in Boston. Alani texts Kyle about chicken garden plans.

Just the rest of them that I can't quite work into a uniquely themed group.

I loved the idea of the Demon homeworld having its own Guardian(s) just like Filgaia.

I think it's neat how Duras Drum is Dark and Stare Roe is Light, so they're the Japanese trope of rival beetles; Stag and Rhino.

I think it's really neat how Wind, Sky/Heaven, and The Stars all have their own guardians.

I love how the original Ge Ramtos appears to draw on some associations between Hummingbirds and death/the dead that are present in indigenous American cultures.

I love that WA2 has Glaive Le Gable, less as a formal Guardian, and more as a kind of super-spiritual Oversoul. (The 2nd game was a lot headier in general between this and the Encroaching Universe enemy.)

And I even really love the manga addressing this gap where there's been a Guardian of "Earth" in the rock and dirt sense, but not one for actual plantlife. (Which makes sense, since the plantlife of Filgaia is consistently in a state of dying.) But giving the last gasp of a dying ecosystem a face and a personality, and making it antagonistic and creepy and almost sinister --instead of dainty and maternal or pure and innocent or forgiving-- because it is willing to do anything to survive in the face of extinction is a really fun idea.
