Ok, I admit, my taste in music is at best "weird uncle from the country side would love it" but I can't shake off the idea of Anthy discovering some lyrical catharsis in Leonard Cohen songs.

rewatching ep.39
and caught this lil exchange when Li Lianhua confronts Shan Gudao and Di Feisheng provides backup:
Tumblr media
李莲花:阿飞,你不必插手。师门的仇、四顾门的债,今日我必向你讨要。
Annotated translation:
Li Lianhua, speaking in a calm, measured pace: A-Fei, you don't need to intervene. [Now addressing Shan Gudao] Today I must avenge the wrong done to our master, and demand recompense on behalf of Sigu Sect.
Tumblr media
单孤刀:今日我用你的人头来祭我的宏图大业!
Tumblr media
Annotated translation:
Shan Gudao, barely a moment after Li Lianhua finished speaking, barking out his words in anger, eyes bloodshot: Today I'll take your head as an offering to my grand crusade!
...and now i put on shipping glasses.
So yes, Shan Gudao is Big Mad about his plans being interfered with after he thought he'd dealt with the major players who would oppose him, and Li Lianhua's calm tone, his ability to control his rage while enumerating those for whom he is taking revenge, that's definitely meant to provoke Shan Gudao, make no mistake.
...but as for the content of Li Lianhua's words, there's not much that Shan Gudao wouldn't already expect.
...except...
Tumblr media
"A-Fei"
Sure, Shan Gudao probably knew "a-Fei" was a cover Di Feisheng had been using when traveling with the lotus gang, but for Li Lianhua to continue to use such a cutesy, intimate address for the notorious hegemon of the Jinyuan Alliance while confronting his ex Shan Gudao? The same kind of intimate address he'd once used for his fiancée?
Tumblr media
oh he mad.

One of my evil headcanons is that Kozue has perfect pitch or some other sort of natural musical prowess but is just really mid at piano in particular because of Family Horrors and comparing herself to Literal Prodigy Miki Kaoru. Frankly I just think it’s cruelly funny. She does relate both Miki AND HERSELF to songbirds by projecting onto those bluebirds… she thinks she’s a wild animal because she refuses to sing but she is just as much a caged songbird as any other

For some reason I can’t engage with any headcanons/theories about Utena or Anthy’s lives post Ohtori, I just don’t like thinking about it at all
I like not knowing. I like not even having a little bit of an idea. Is that weird?

anthy would have a million followers on some social media platform because even though all her posts are like...snail...blurry picture of the sunset...the captions would be stuff like "happy anniversary to when my handsome gf and i killed the prince <3" and the comments would all be "OF WHAT COUNTRY??" there'd be a whole subreddit of people who think it's an elaborate alternate reality game.

Trying to think about rgu ocd headcanons ⌛ (a little messy and sorry if it's out of character)
cw: descriptions of different types of ocd obsessions (the descriptions are simple, but if reading about the themes of your obsessions is a trigger for you, please avoid reading this post), mentions of abuse
Juri has magical thinking and her way to cope with that is hating everything related to magic. She has basically overcome it but from time to time she has psychotic episodes because of it. How much she hates miracles is both related with Shiori and is a way to cope with her OCD.
Miki's obsessions are around order, perfectionism and symmetry. He can spent hours trying to get everything Just Right and feels but about it. He has only talked to Juri about this and she advised him using her own experience as a reference (though she didn't told him that part). Idk if the way he uses his chronometer would be related to a compulsion or if it would be stimming. Maybe a mix of both, depending on the situation.
Anthy has intrusive thoughts about how people perceive her and would check her interactions with other too much. She would also check constantly if Akio is near after escaping (this would be also related with PTSD). She also has a tendency to hoarding but she keeps it controlled.
Nanami suffers from obsessions around her relationships with others and around her own identity because of how Touga groomed and manipulated her. She denies this but her mind is constantly ruminating.
But then all of them go to therapy and learn how to cope in a healthy way :D

A fan of the idea that Anthy gets a bit too into teleshopping at one point. Utena had no complaints about it at first, she'd even sit down with Anthy and laugh at how ridiculous some products are after a long day.
Then the boxes pile up. Headphones for contacting aliens. A gym made for mouses. BigFoot Milk.
But Utena starts wondering if it's time for an intervention only after waking up to a Cow Nail Care Kit at their doorstep.

Hater opinion regarding Nanami is that she's not a character motivated by her own sexuality*, *She's heterosexual, in the sense that she believes there are no other options, and giving her any options is a basic quality of life upgrade
So much by the fear that she is insane, motivated by the fact that everyone around her thinks she's insane (Touga, Miki, Utena, Aiko-Keiko-Yuuko, etc.), motivated by the fact that Nanami shows symptons of paranoia* *Yes Touga is trying to kill her, yes Tsuwabuki and Akio are also trying to kill her, Anthy is playing mind games, etc. But kind of importantly, Nanami often accuses/hurts people who sincerely aren't paying her any mind (Utena, Anthy in ep 3, Keiko in ep 19, that cat, Tsuwabuki in ep 18) who Nanami often regrets alienating, while also blind to the idea that Touga is trying to kill/poison her.
Also motivated by Nanami's own awareness that being InsaneTM is Not Good, that Ohtori's mental health services suck ass, that being a PrinceTM (in her case, being so heterosexual she'd do her brother's job while he's out sick) is a form of power, and that being Straight = Not insane, because being Queer = Insane, and thus something to be fixed (ie. Miss Tenjou, Kozue, Shiori, Juri, Anthy).
Like, I guess my point is, that Nanami deals mainly with themes of the Family Stricture and Mental Illness, and how those reinforce each other, with the family positioned as the cure & balm against mental illness. Which is an illusion. Anyways.

i want to ask you about yours/anthy's favourite colour and/or gender identity based on that post. i like rambling and people who are insane about things they love
When I say just wailing I mean it I can’t think of how to word ANYTHING. On gender it’s So So Complicated but I’ll copy my shortened shitpost version, that being “Local Transfem Also Is Whatever Gender Is Required At Any Given Time, Like a Clownfish But With Added Dissociation” (thank you Anthy-as-Mamiya saying he’d prefer to be called the Rose Groom despite that not really helping or hurting plans and thus probably not an order for haunting me forever and ever). Favorite color was a shitpost but would definitely result in looking wayyy further into things than one would expect. It’s probably pink though given her ending outfit and Utena’s general existence

Theory: Anthy and the personification of Dios are the same person (transgender allegory)
I'll start off saying that this is only a theory and that none of these things mean it's canon. I personally love the headcanon of transfemenine Anthy himemiya but y'all are free to have your own opinions! ^^
WARNING: Mentions of abuse (physical, sexual and psychological) as well as mentions and criticism of internalized and structural transphobia, misogyny and transmisogyny. TMA people i strongly encourage you to tell me if I said something wrong or odd.
Points i think would have another explanation from this theory:
•the scene of her in her childhood with the prince is actually her with Dios and not with Akio, it's her watching her former self, made by people's expectations about her gender, die in her arms
•before getting impaled in the swords of hatred, Prince Dios last words were Anthy's name, which makes it actually more powerful. It's the name she choose herself, it's her saying her name outloud while the personification of the people's expectations dies.
•"Dios is no longer here" line, knowing damn well Dios is a personification of princehood, hits different within this theory. Dios is no longer there because Anthy has rejected princehood, Because she never was a prince, people forced a part of herself to be one. Once she confronted the people with her real self, they're furious, they blame Anthy of killing Dios when he wasn't even real, he was a mere illusion. The only real person there was Anthy, but in disbelief people decided to hit Anthy with all of their hatred.
•Dios after Anthy grows up exists only as a concept, a ghost that appears to push utena to do the impossible, and that feels oddly similar to Anthy. An idealized "man" that never existed ("princes aren't real") who actively tries to help girls (a thing that you shouldn't do, since "all women are like the rose bride, in some way or another" aka all of them are doomed to suffer). Meaning that Dios was the first one to stand up and go against these established structure, inspiring Utena to change the world
•This actually gives Utena a whole other twist: the reason she thought Akio was her prince was because she met Anthy when she was still Dios. The prince, as former Anthy self, showed Utena Anthy's true self, which was shut down by hatred and gender normatives.
•Dios saying that Anthy killed a prince could be interpreted as Anthy still struggling with self acceptance. She's still blaming herself for her identity, seeing it as some sort of betrayal towards society. This means that the person who saved Utena, the person who made the first contact when she was a child and showed her how much Anthy was suffering was no other than Anthy herself. Or, well, Dios, her former self.
•Anthy then is pushed towards conformity within the femenine rose bride role. She knows the most small mistake she makes will put her life in the line. That's why she accepted every order and still got a lot of backlash from everyone. She's seen as the lowest and some sort of witch people are allowed to abuse because she had the prince role in her hands and actively rejected it. For everyone, whether it's Akio or the rose crest, it doesn't matter if her identity didn't fit within princehood, she should have been the prince, but since she decided not to, she deserves to be shamed and abused because of it.
•The sword symbolism plays a strong role within this theory because Anthy is the carrier of "the sword of Dios". A sword that is supposed to belong to a prince with pure heart and Anthy does have a pure heart but it's not a prince. I honestly have been seeing people say that the sword of Dios is Akio's sword but honestly it doesn't make a lot of sense to me because the one who carries it is Anthy, the only who releases it is Anthy. And when Akio takes the sword of Dios, it just breaks, showing that the sword does not belong to him.
•In the black rose arc, the whole arc is led by Mamiya and Mikage. Mamiya, who is later revealed to be Anthy, dressed as a man who looks oddly similar to the personification of Dios/illusion of Dios, and successfully deceiving Mikage and everyone else with that stolen identity, might be a key piece of Anthy being an androgynous person, which by itself doesn't mean she's trans (trans people can or cannot be androgynous) but it's an important point too;
Tbh i might be wrong, or i might have said something dumb since i haven't rewatched RGU in a while, but this is all I can recall

I don’t have any post ideas but I think Kozue should weirdgirl about animals more, especially birds. She deserves to look at some animal dead on the ground and go on about the cycle of nature and all To Me. I am god’s least biased soldier I have never been biased about anything especially Kozue related ever

Rgu Characters+ Customer Service
Touga: When he thinks a customer is stupid or annoying he starts talking slower and starts using smaller words in such an infuriatingly condescending way, but with plausible deniability of "he was just being helpfu!" so that he can never actually get in trouble for it. But they both know he was being the asshole!!!
Juri: She would be good at it and i think working customer service would actually be beneficial to her. Definitely would employ Touga's plausibly deniable tactics of condescencion on rude customers even though she has a lot more patience for people than Touga does.
Nanami: Would kill herself before that ever happened.
Saionji: Okay well I see him as a tea server and the reviews are mixed. I think the thing about Saionji is that if he's in a good mood he is a delight to have around and if he's in a bad mood he's a monster whose rancid vibes ruin every room he's in. So his proficiency at customer service is entirely dependent on how he's feeling at any given moment. I think he'd be happy serving tea when he's an adult and not so much when he's an angry teen.
Miki: When it comes to interacting with people, even the worst rudest customers he's very friendly. Even as a thirteen year old he's very patient and understanding (except when he thinks you're keeping him apart from a loved one, then watch out!)
Anthy: She pretends to be stupid on purpose with customers she doesn't like and when they try to complain to her manager she's like "I'm the manager" and when they question how she's still allowed to work despite being so incompetent everyone else vouches for her they are like "she's literally our best employee"
Utena: She needs to tell it like it is every five minutes or else she'll die. It's literally a source of air for her. She would have a tier ranking of all the regular customers in her head and she would treat them accordingly. I think Utena working at a coffee shop or smth is plausible and she would be very good at it.
