Essential Qualifications

The candidate must have a consistent academic record with first-class Master’s Degree in Microbiology / Zoology /  Biotechnology

Desirable Qualifications

As the work includes immunology, infection biology and cell biology prior experience in this field is desirable.

Below 28 years as on April 30, 2021. Age relaxation will be given as per Govt. of India norms.

Emolument

INR 15,000/- (Consolidated per month).

Duration

Initially for one year and extendable upto three years or till termination of the project whichever is earlier based on performance evaluation.

RGCB MSc Biotechnology Admission 2020 – Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram invites applications for admission to MSc Biotechnology Program for the academic session commencing in July 2020. The admission to M.Sc Biotechnology Program will be based on the marks scored in the entrance test.

Eligibility Criteria for RGCB MSc Biotechnology Admission 2020

Candidates who have cleared the Graduate Aptitude Test-Biotechnology and have 60% aggregate marks (or an equivalent grade point average) in a UGC approved bachelor's degree in any branch of Science, Engineering or Medicine, BDS, Ayurveda, other traditional systems of medicine, BVSc, BPharm, BTech and BSc Agriculture are eligible to be apply for admission.

Candidates who belong to SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer) and PWD categories will be given 5% relaxation of aggregate marks.

Post Graduate degree in Biotechnology or any branch of Life Sciences.

Documented working experience as support staff in biochemistry/clinical lab.

Experience in blood processing, PBMC isolation, Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS).

Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.

Experience in computer and software usage.

Excellent communication skills as well as proficiency in written and spoken English and Malayalam.

Age Limit: Below 30 years as on March 12, 2021. Age relaxation will be given as per the Govt. of India’s norms.

Duration: Initially for a period of one year and extendable up to two years or till termination of the project whichever is earlier based on performance evaluation on yearly basis.

Fulfilling the essential qualification/experience does not guarantee the selection of the candidate.

Essential Qualifications

The candidate must have secured first class in all their qualifying examinations. Post Graduate Degree in Biological Sciences is mandatory.

Desirable Qualifications

Candidate who have qualified National Eligibility Test – CSIR-UGC NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)/ or National Level Examination conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions viz., DBT-Biotechnology Eligibility Test/ Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology & Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JBEEBILS)/ ICMR Entrance Exam/ Approved DST Inspire Fellowship are preferred.

Age Limit

Below 28 years as on March 10, 2021. Age relaxation will be given as per Govt. of India norms.

Emolument

INR 31,000/- + 16% HRA per month for NET/GATE qualified candidates. For others, the emoluments will be as per DST/DBT guidelines.

Duration

Initially for a period of one year and extendable up to two years or till termination of the project whichever is earlier based on performance evaluation on yearly basis.

If a candidate wishes to apply for different positions, separate application forms should be submitted for each position. Selection to the position will not entitle the candidate to any future positions at RGCB (permanent or otherwise). As with all project positions at RGCB, the position will be co-terminus with the end of the project.

Applications that are not in the prescribed format will summarily be rejected.

Only those fulfilling the above criteria need to apply. Applicants will be short-listed for the ONLINE selection interview based on eligibility criteria. Selection of suitable candidates will be made based on qualifications and performance in the selection interview.

RGCB PhD Admission 2021 January Session – Online Applications Invited. Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology has released the official notification for its prestigious PhD program. Interested candidates can check out the details given below and apply accordingly.

RGCB PhD Admission 2021

Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) invites applications for admission to the PhD program (January 2021 session) in various domains of Disease Biology and Plant Science.

Eligibility for PhD admission

1) Candidates with a post-graduate degree in Life/ Agricultural/ Environmental/ Veterinary/ Pharmaceutical/ Medical Sciences or allied subjects (Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/ Biophysics/ Chemistry/ Microbiology, etc.) with a minimum of 55 % marks or equivalent grade point are eligible to apply. Candidates who are appearing for their final qualifying degree exam or awaiting the qualifying degree result are also eligible to apply.

2) A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade point, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/Differently abled candidates.

3) Applicants must have a valid JRF Fellowship (UGC/CSIR/ICMR/DBT/DST-INSPIRE/ or any other nationally-competitive fellowship offered by the Government having a valid fellowship for a period of 5 years

4) Upper age limit is 28 years as on March 1st, 2021 Age limit will be relaxed for SC/ST/Physically challenged candidates as per Government of India regulations.

5) RGCB is currently affiliated to the University of Kerala, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Regional Centre for Biotechnology and Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS). Registration of the selected candidates will be as per the guidelines issued by these Universities for the award of PhD degrees.

Selection Procedure

1) Candidates will be shortlisted based on the academic performance and performance in the national level tests.

2) PhD interviews may be held online.

3) Guidelines for interview will be provided to candidates shortlisted for the interview.

4) The list of selected candidates will be displayed on RGCB website.

Application Procedure

1) Only online applications will be accepted.

2) Application Fee (Rs. 500) must be paid online using ‘SB Collect’ of State Bank of India through the URL given in the Payment Stage.

3) SC/ST/EWS candidates are exempted from paying the processing fees.

4) Last date for receiving completed applications is 10th March 2021. Incomplete applications or those without processing fees will be rejected.

Fees for PhD Programme

The students admitted for PhD programme will have to pay a laboratory fee of Rs 5000 per semester for the first eight semesters and Rupees 10,000 for every semester after.

SC/ST/EWS candidates are exempt from these tuition fees.

University fees will have to be paid directly to the University directly by the student.

Applicants should note that the Ph.D. program of RGCB is primarily designed to produce top-class Ph.D. holders who will drive future research programs in the country. Hence RGCB would like to see their Ph.D. holders continue in active research by proceeding for suitable postdoctoral assignments and then as research scientists or young entrepreneurs in biotechnology.

RGCB does not view as its main mandate production of Ph.D. holders primarily for teaching in colleges and universities, which may often need the Ph.D. degree to be in a particular domain (such as Zoology, Chemistry or Botany). This may not be possible at RGCB where most degrees are granted in biotechnology or other interdisciplinary subjects. Candidates who wish to have a career in teaching may find other universities or institutes where “subject-wise degrees” are given a better option. Applicants are advised to consider this aspect very carefully before applying for the Ph.D. program.
