The All Star game scene was so 💔 Were you trying to knock the wind out of us Nivi? “If only you’d just let me hold you in front of the world”, another call back to being a secret I see. I can’t wait to finally get the full breakup reasoning, seems like Paige is way more comfortable with letting the world see their relationship than Azzi. It feels like Paige is leaning into the private but not a secret and Azzi is struggling with how to balance it all. Like maybe they are on opposite spectrums?

The foreplay line gets me every time because it’s so true. Their bickering does just feel so emotionally and sexually charged. And oh ok Paige with the “just let me fuck you after” line, clearly not able to take things slow lol

Omg that phone call almost ended me. I felt so uncomfortable reading it, my heart was breaking for Azzi, but yet I also wanted to give Paige a hug. She was clearly going through it and her pain was so palpable. The part where Paige talks about Olivia “She loves being seen with me. She loves being known as my wife. Everything I ever wanted from you, she’s willing to give me.” I felt like this part maybe had a double meaning. Olivia seems like she just liked the idea of Paige. Their relationship just seems very surface level. Olivia likes the idea of being married to a hot famous athlete. She likes all the perks of being married to someone like Paige and flaunts it almost as a power trip. And then those lines also just go back to Paige feeling like a secret. Azzi not feeling comfortable with the world knowing about their relationship and Paige wanting to show off her girl. Again they just feel like they are on different pages. And that insecurity of feeling like Azzi wants to hide her and their relationship just keeps popping up.

Let’s talk about the bar scene shall we. I love the interactions between Joyce and Paige. Joyce introducing the players was an A+ no notes. The way that all of the new teammates give Paige shit (lovingly) is just perfect. They just seem comfortable with her already which is important for team chemistry. Azzi choosing tequila shots over having to decide between rum & coke or a Pina Colada is so princess. Paige being all territorial and jealous was fun. Poor Clemence, she never really stood a chance. Clemence bringing up the phone call, really curious to see if Paige remembers it. The fact that it still haunts Azzi feels like it’s gonna come up again at some point. Azzi punching some dude for insulting Stephie and Paige getting pissed off and flying into crises mode, Azzi slipping and calling Paige baby 😱 Their vulnerability at the end of the chapter felt like an important step for both of them. Like opening a door they can both walk through. It doesn’t seem like they are even capable of taking things slow at this point. I’m really curious to see how they are gonna navigate dating on the same team again, do they fall into old patterns? Is Azzi done hiding? That’s an excellent question. I have two answers to this, and I’ll explain why. I read one book, and it was fantastic all around but also absolutely devastating. I would never recommend that anyone read it, but it's worth the pain if you choose to: A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. It is so beautiful yet incredibly tragic. Read at your own risk.

And just a book I would not recommend in general is Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan. I really don’t like this book and writing style with a passion. (Even my professors know that I hate this book). I understand that the story is a good allegory, but as a story itself, I find it ridiculous. (I mean, the protagonist Christian is locked up in castle doubting for a few horrible days of torture and then he suddenly remembers he has a key in his pocket and the line reads something like, “and then they escaped!”, then the story moves on. Like okay, the big build up for what??? And John Bunyan cannot write a poem to save his life I’m sorry.)

My favorite book is a big basic to be honest. I read The Secret History by Donna Tartt ~5 years ago, but I think about it everyday. The language is so delicate and eloquent, the characters are round and well developed, and the story itself just bleeds dark academia—which is all I crave. The book has gotten so popular, but I truly admire the creativity, symbolism, and outright irony in it. It’s a great read, especially for a literature student.

this weeks chapter was very... :/

i don’t even hate the chapter this week like content wise i don’t think it’s a bad chapter i just think that the lead up (the entirety of the culling game) and the pacing and gojos reaction to everything is making it all very. meh to me :/

the whole culling game wasn’t my favorite for a lot of reasons and i don’t necessarily blame gege for it completely. i think that there isn’t an arc better than hidden inventory and there aren’t any fights better than the ones in shibuya, so following both of those really incredible arcs with another that is supposed to be equally as good or better does not seem like an easy thing. (spoilers for CG and new ch. under the cut)

one of the reasons the fights in shibuya are sooo good to me is because they are fights that are deeply rooted in character and character development. maki killing the zenin clan, megumi fighting toji, etc. the itadori-mahito fight at the end of the shibuya arc is entirely a character/meant for character development fight for itadori, with his whole "i am you, you are me" realization/acceptance, and it is arguably the best fight in the manga like it is sooo good.

but there arent any fights built around character in the culling game and like. given that gege has made such amazing, character oriented fights in the past. it is a little bit disappointing. esp since i don’t personally want to just watch/read a bunch of fights repeatedly like i WANT there to be some kind of deeper meaning/purpose to them (outside of trying to end the culling game/free gojo obv). makis fight in the CG is probably the most “character” oriented fight and i was just very eh about it :/ but i love maki <3

the treatment of the women in the CG recently has just turned me away from the manga in general too. scorpion hair remi girl was fucked, uro not having more of a role was disappointing, yuki DYING wasn’t great.

tsumiki was the reason i didn’t stop reading the manga earlier in the arc because i was looking forward to her having her moment for LITERALLY THE ENTIIREEEE ARC. just for gege to do that to her and it reallllyy pissed me off.

as much as i hate how tsumikis arc went, i think i could’ve been a liiittle bit more accepting of it if the whole yorozu-sukuna thing was done well. but i didn’t like that either LMAO. i think the whole “yorozu loves sukuna and she sees how lonely he is etc” is like. a cool concept overall and i think if it was done right it could’ve been a good addition to the plot. even if there was just a little bit more of a flashback of yorozu and sukuna from that era with more information and context i think it would’ve made it a lot better. and i could’ve been like. a tiny bit less pissed about tsumiki. but the fact that it wasn’t a very satisfying arc for tsumiki OR yorozu just made it all very underwhelming to me. esp since tsumiki was what i was looking forward to the most in this arc 🙃🙃🙃

so yeah this chapter wasnt the worst thing in the world its just very underwhelming bc everything that led up to this was really underwhelming for me too :( and gojos reacction in this chapter is. upsetting. esp following the whole yorozu-sukuna thing and the "sukuna is lonely" part of it. like sukuna and gojo are meant to be foils of each other. gojos character is built around the fact that he has those connections and relationships with his friends and the students and he fell in gay love with geto and he "wont let anyone else be lonely" like the relationships he has is WHY HES LIKE THAATTTTT. him having no reaction to nanamis death and nobaras condition and maki and megumi and ALL of his students feels like a very surface level "gojo is a funny silly goofy guy" thing to do. but i would like to believe that gege knows and cares about his characters more than a surface level interpretation but. idk well see i guess. i just would have liked to see the sukuna-gojo being foils of e/o actually being played out narratively in these past few chapters more. but hopefully there'll be more of that during the next arc.

anyways so like. the chapter itself is not necessarily bad i just think that the CG itself was really abrupt and lacked a lot emotionally/character wise (for me at least), and then the pacing of this whole thing has been really off for me so its hard to look at the whole thing collectively and actually like it lol.

i feel like gege is really just trying to speedrun the rest of the manga and move onto something else which SUCKS bc it has soo much potential to be sooooo good. whatever anyways goodnight.

Opinion on S3 of Infinity Train?

Tl;DR, I really enjoyed this Book! Grace's growth from a manipulator matched with Simon's trust issues were a clever pairing, especially in the regard that they are codependent enablers (Grace more than Simon at first). Hazel's presence was an excellent match for Grace and Simon's "companion" but Tuba leaving an imprint the way she did despite not being there for the majority only shows how good her character was.

The themes overall were done really well, as the show demonstrated a nice portrayal of how conflicting people can exist and what one can do to better themselves, or help others.

Good season, good characters.

To get into it in more depth...

My sister and I did not like these two because of Book 2, but when we learned they were gonna be the Book 3 protagonists I figured we'd learn to like at least one of them. Character wise, I prefer Grace over Simon but I still liked how they handled everyone's characters within this book. They really did feel like snarky teenagers with no adult guidance, who at their core were really the same scared old kids who got on the train.

When Grace told Simon, "I don't owe you anything" I really liked the emotions of that scene and dialogue. How Simon was portrayed with his trust issues, compared to Grace and her manipulation, I think was done well. He was meant to be someone frustrating and both the VA and animation carried that snark very well.

I also liked how their codependent relationship as mutual (though more on Grace's end) enablers was subtly expressed at first. It was a great take on expressing the problems of acting out for attention and issue of trust, but on top of recognizing good and bad friends. Or in other words, conveying the journey of recognizing flaws in an individual or self, and either striving to help others from them or realizing to distance yourself from the company you keep.

On that notion, Grace's number going down the way it did was a good way of expressing that while you've done a lot of wrongs in life, starting the path to redemption or making up for it can be an even greater step than you realize. I also kinda liked that One-One didn't know about The Apex. It sucked, obviously, but it evolved into an interesting element with Grace having to recognize her faults and the impact she's had on others, then expand on the idea of pushing out of that toxic mentality.

Good example would be Jesse confronting The Apex: as a Passenger, it sucked his "goal" was kind of being hampered by other Passengers who misunderstood the Train, but it did lead to him outright asserting he will be better which led to his escape.

Also, this Book had Samantha the Cat! Which was always a fun recurring character to me, so seeing some backstory for her was neat! I liked Hazel's character and what she did for Grace, her presence set a standard for Grace and Simon and I liked that a lot, since it forced them to compromise on the one thing we already knew they were adamant about: wheeling denizens. Amelia's return and knowing she's helping One-One now was cool to know, but it was also saddening to learn why Hazel existed in the first place. And Holy Hades did Tuba's death hit hard, she was such a good mother-figure and the delivery of that scene was so well done (followed up with the most twisted scene where Simon just happily tells Hazel he killed her).

The amount of characters within this Book blended well together, especially in terms of narrative. A lot of themes took place in this Book, and I liked that our cast of (mostly) four balanced each other out in terms of dynamics. Overall, I think this Book carried itself well with the characters it introduced and reintroduced. My sister and I really liked it!

OK so two things.

1. Everything I say is subject to change here. I actually feel like this should be in my blog bio LMAO I am forever changing bits and pieces of Captain's lore and story. I have accepted that this is just part of the creative process and I want to put time into this silly AU so uh yeah. Take everything I say with a pinch of salt.

2. The actual answer:

Well... They're actually both alive for this AU 😸 In Captain Minato and Kotone (my preferred names for them) are twins (surname Arisato) and as I said they are both alive and well :] I still haven't really thought of an explanation as to WHY its just the twins surviving the Great Seal is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine in Persona fics so i decided to include it here :]

Persona Protagonists are interesting for me because each of them have their own established personality but I do think there's a bit of room to throw in your own interpretation too! Particularly because of having the multiple dialogue options. At least that's how I personally do things. Because of this, I do find it difficult to nail down exactly how I would incorporate them both into the AU, and subsequently their relationship with Riku (I'll admit this is actually true for a lot of SEES hence why I barely mention it).

However I think I can at least say this - Riku definitely looks up to both of them as really cool figures in his life, he admires their natural leadership skills for one. The three of them have something in common - each of them are really good at masking how they're actually feeling - Minato has his "I don't care attitude", Kotone has this cheerful polite persona (which is also very much a mask) and Riku has his whole bravado look at me thing going on. And the former two are very very good at seeing past the latter's BS LOL.

As for how much Riku actually knows, he does know a fair bit of what happened during the events of P3. Just not the whole death living inside Kotone/Minato + them somewhat dying to seal away Nyx thing. Yeah that's a story he isn't gonna understand for a WHILE (unless you wanna count CATT AU)

Is Duster x Kumatora actually canon? What's your opnion about it?

I've already spoken on Kumadust on my main, but tl;dr, I don't like it; I'll answer your questions in the order received.

As far as I am aware, Kumadust has little to no basis in canon. Now, mind you, I have only played Mother 3 up to Chapter 2, almost Chapter 3 (old PC, suck at combos, I'll get there eventually but TOTK has been very distracting), but as you can tell, I am very involved in the fandom for it and would have likely found out if the ship was intentional. This was the best thread I could remember on the matter in case you're curious.

Now, on my part, the best "support" I can think of are post-release art like this:

However, these never appeared in-game and seem to a particular quirk of one of Mother 3's staff members, Nobuhiro Imagawa, long after the release of the game. You know about "official fan art"? That's basically what this is at this point. It's just one person and not Itoi who actually has a say in stuff. Plus, they're just standing there? Like?

Anyway, I'll get to the point: the real bread and butter.

I don't like it because of the the pretty clear age gap implied here.

Duster and Kumatora have a familiar relationship to me as does the entire main cast where Duster is like the uncle to borderline siblings at this point Lucas and Kumatora. And it's not just an age gap. I have very substantial reason to believe Kumatora is a minor. Exhibit A, your honor:

She grows taller over the time skip! You know what this means? She's still going through or only recently underwent puberty! More before and after, top to bottom:

Note the three-quarters pose where she seems to be curvier after the time skip judging by the hoodie's collar. That's a youngun if you're still growing like this over a three year span!

Now you could say, "Oh, but she works at Club Titiboo, that's clearly a bar! She has to be older than twenty then! Delayed puberty!" Okay, right off the bat, legal drinking age is highly dependent on where you're at. In some places, it's even sixteen! Secondly, take one look at the Pigmasks and the fact that their leader is Porky to ask if they give one hoot about child labor laws? In fact, I think Porky would love to make a law to allow minors everywhere; you cannot trust this one bit.

Meanwhile, I don't really have to say much to say for Duster that isn't obvious. He's clearly an adult. He's got a pretty common balding pattern, facial hair, doesn't grow one inch or pixel over the time skip: Duster's a grown man.

Shipping a minor and a clear adult is an automatic no from me. I guess you could still argue somehow that Kumatora is an adult, but I think you're just grasping at straws at that point.

P.S: This is non-fic related but while watching my fave sport (AFL) over the weekend, there were a couple players playing their first game back from an ACL injury and one of the guys was coming back only SEVEN months after tearing his ACL! And this sport is like one of the most physical sports I’ve ever watched so I couldn’t believe it. Anyway, it made me really hopeful for Azzi, cause I feel like she’s probably on track for a nine-month recovery and I’ve had reservations about that especially given it’s her second one, but seeing those guys coming back after an even shorter period of time and pulling up fine made me feel a lot better. I know the recovery is different for everyone, but if Azzi (and her rehab team) believe she’s ready to be cleared after nine months, then I have full trust in them and I can’t wait to see her back on the court 🥹
