I just saw your reply to an ask about the "stay with me" thing and for no reason at all other than to share this and clog your inbox a lil bit I just wanted to say thanks for your analysis (great as always) and also the first thing I thought of when I read it was a quote from Falsettos which is an oldish musical.

It's on the opposite side of queer coding - one of the main plot points in the show is the complicated relationship between two men, it was written in the 80s amidst the AIDS crisis and actually portays gays as regular people just as funny and happy and annoying as straight people. I highly recommend the show, it's a beautiful and very complicated story about love and found family and baseball games and Judaism and therapy *but* to the best of my memory the two men never directly say I love you to each other (musical purists will come for me and say they do) despite the whole musical being about their relationship but in one of their final songs one of them, Marvin, sings "I'm staying here in this spot / whether you want me to or not / I'm staying" and Whizzer sings "just stay right here"

I don't really know where I'm going with this, I just have no idea why but the whole "stay with me" thing hit me like a truck and I wanted to share this sorry!

And God, now I have to figure out how I can watch it, don’t I? I’m pretty sure it’s not possible to watch it in my country anywhere. *cries* But I’ll try and keep an eye out. Because I am now DYING to see it. Thank you for bringing it to my attention! And yes, ‘stay with me’ is def a powerful thing, it’s so much “I want you here, I'm telling you that you’re someone that I need” and at the same time it’s also, “for you to stay with me, you’d have to want the same thing just as bad. I’m asking you to want it.” So when one person asks another to stay, and the latter does? EXPLOSIVE. I love it and I’m so glad I get to share thoughts about it with you, and that we all got to see it with Buddie. Like, literally Buck begged Eddie to stay with him, and then Eddie did, he recuperated, and the whole scene of him being awake again was all about him and Buck. HOW IS THIS NOT A LOVE STORY? It is, it’s just not explicitly defined like that yet.
