The rise of the Indian bottled water industry began with the economic liberalisation process in 1991. The market was virtually stagnant until 1991, when the demand for bottled water was less than two million cases a year. However, since 1991-1992 it has not looked back, and the demand in 2004-05 was a staggering 82 million cases.
Parle Bisleri continues to hold 40 per cent of the market share. Kinley and Aquafina are fast catching up, with Kinley holding 20-25 per cent of the market and Aquafina approximately 10 per cent. The rest, including the smaller players, have 20-25 per cent of the market share.
Consumption of bottled water in India is linked to the level of prosperity in the different regions. The western region accounts for 40 per cent of the market and the eastern region just 10. However, the bottling plants are concentrated in the southern region - of the approximately 1,200 bottling water plants in India, 600 are in Tamil Nadu. This is a major problem because southern India, especially Tamil Nadu, is water starved.
The majority of the bottling plants - whether they produce bottled water or soft drinks - are dependent on groundwater. They create huge water stress in the areas where they operate because groundwater is also the main source - in most places the only source - of drinking water in India. This has created huge conflict between the community and the bottling plants.
Private companies in India can siphon out, exhaust and export groundwater free because the groundwater law in the country is archaic and not in tune with the realities of modern capitalist societies.
The existing law says that "the person who owns the land owns the groundwater beneath". This means that, theoretically, a person can buy one square metre of land and take all the groundwater of the surrounding areas and the law of land cannot object to it. This law is the core of the conflict between the community and the companies and the major reason for making the business of bottled water in the country highly lucrative.
Even with the state-of-the-art treatment system with reverse osmosis and membranes, the cost of treatment is a maximum of 25 paise a litre (Rs.0.25/litre). Therefore, the cost of producing 1 litre of packaged drinking water in India, without including the labour cost, is just Rs.0.25. In a nutshell, in manufacturing bottled water, the major costs are not in the production of treated and purified water but in the packaging and marketing of it.
Take for instance the case of Coca-Cola's bottling plant in drought-prone Kala Dera near Jaipur. Coca-Cola gets its water free except for a tiny cess (for discharging the wastewater) it pays to the State Pollution Control Board - a little over Rs.5,000 a year during 2000-02 and Rs.24,246 in 2003. It extracts half a million litres of water every day - at a cost of 14 paise per 1,000 litres. So, a Rs.10 per litre Kinley water has a raw material cost of just 0.02-0.03 paise. (It takes about two to three litres of groundwater to make one litre of bottled water.)
The reason that companies do not have to bear the cost of the main raw material - water - has made this industry highly profitable. But the real cost of the industry is huge.

As the city continues to grow in terms of population, industrialization, and infrastructure, the demand for pure and safe water has increased drastically. Addressing this growing concern, commercial RO plant manufacturers in Noida play a crucial role in ensuring access to high-quality water for various sectors, from industrial to residential use.
Water Quality Issues in Noida
Noida’s water supply faces multiple challenges due to the rapid industrialization, urbanization, and population growth. Some of the key water quality issues include:
Contaminated Groundwater: Over-extraction of groundwater, coupled with untreated sewage and industrial discharge, has led to contamination with harmful chemicals and heavy metals like lead and arsenic.
High Total Dissolved Solids (TDS): Noida’s water often has elevated levels of TDS, which can affect water taste and make it unsafe for consumption.
Polluted Surface Water: Rivers and lakes in the region, including the Yamuna River, are heavily polluted with industrial effluents and untreated sewage, further limiting access to clean water.
In this context, Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology has emerged as an effective solution to purify water, remove contaminants, and make it suitable for consumption and various industrial uses.
How RO Systems Work
RO systems work by forcing water through a semi-permeable membrane, which filters out contaminants, heavy metals, and dissolved solids. The process includes:
Pre-treatment: Removal of large particles, sediments, and chlorine from the water.
Reverse Osmosis Filtration: Water passes through a membrane that blocks contaminants like salts, bacteria, and heavy metals.
Post-treatment: The purified water is polished to enhance taste and quality.
This multi-step filtration ensures that the output water meets high standards of purity, making it safe for drinking, industrial use, and other applications.
The Role of Commercial RO Plant Manufacturers
Commercial RO plant manufacturer in Noida are integral in addressing the water quality challenges faced by the city. These manufacturers offer customized solutions to meet the diverse needs of industries, businesses, and residential areas.

Residential and Commercial Use: With the growing number of residential complexes, commercial spaces, and institutions in Noida, RO systems are designed to provide pure water to entire communities, schools, hospitals, and offices.
Sustainability: Manufacturers are focusing on eco-friendly RO systems that minimize energy consumption and wastewater generation. The integration of zero liquid discharge (ZLD) technology helps in reducing environmental impact.
Benefits of Commercial RO Systems
Commercial RO systems provide numerous benefits that help in solving Noida’s water problems:
Purity and Safety: RO systems effectively remove harmful contaminants such as bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, and excessive TDS, ensuring that water is safe for consumption and use.
Cost Efficiency: By investing in commercial RO plants, businesses and residential communities can significantly reduce their reliance on bottled water and external water suppliers.
Environmental Impact: With features like wastewater recycling and energy-efficient designs, RO plants contribute to sustainability by reducing the demand for freshwater and minimizing waste.
Regulatory Compliance: Many businesses and industries need to comply with water quality standards and regulations. RO systems help them meet these requirements by ensuring the water is of high quality.
Challenges in Implementing RO Systems
While RO systems offer numerous benefits, there are challenges that manufacturers in Noida address:
Initial Costs: The upfront cost of installing a commercial RO plant can be high, but manufacturers offer financing options and scalable systems to cater to different budgets.
Wastewater Generation: RO plants produce wastewater, which can be an environmental concern. Manufacturers are incorporating ZLD and other wastewater treatment technologies to reduce this impact.
Energy Consumption: Operating an RO system can be energy-intensive. However, newer models are designed to be more energy-efficient, helping to cut down operational costs.
Conclusion

Who Is The Best Commercial RO Plant Manufacturer in Gurgaon ?
Netsol Water incorporates latest world-class, popular RO technology to filter water utilizing a wide range of commercial as well as industrial RO plants in Gurgaon that are resistant to the harsh circumstances of the business.
Gurgaon is an ideal place for those who love infrastructure since it offers a blend of Indian culture, modern technology, & advancements in infrastructure. This place has also been referred to as the most Inventive Hub In India. The city is cherished by countless people, yet despite repeated protests & actions, untreated sewage from residential & commercial drains continues to contaminate it.
Many municipal drains continue to empty wastewater straight into the surrounding channels, even despite repeated directives from the local government to noncompliant businesses to clean up their sewage before disposal.
Process of Osmosis taking place in a RO plant
By exerting pressures higher than the capillary movement required pressure, a solvent is forced through a thin, permeating membrane to move from a region with a high saturated amount of solute to one with a low solute concentration. This process is known as reverse osmosis. In this RO process, a solvent can flow through the membrane while the solute cannot since the membrane is semi-permeable.
Consider a semi-permeable membrane that has fresh water on one side along with a fully saturated solution on the other. If regular osmosis has place, freshwater will penetrate the membrane as well as dilute the extremely concentrated solution. In a RO system, pressure is also employed to force only desired liquid molecules through a thin, permeable membrane that divides a solution containing a lot of impurities along with various other substances into the pure, clean-water chamber. Commercial RO Plant is the best commercial ro plant manufacturer in gurgaon at best affordable price.
Clean water is a must requirement in Gurgaon's companies as well as residential sectors.
