Southeast Asia without tuc tucs running around would be like London without the Big Ben, Paris without the Eiffel Tower and Berlin without good beer for me. They're absolutely everywhere and always ready to take you wherever you want. Remember to bargain about the fare though! Most of the drivers drive like mental, often on the wrong side of the road, without paying attention to any acknowledged (or not?) traffic rules but all you need to do is trust them and enjoy the rollercoaster ride on narrow streets - they certainly know what they're doing! Moreover, they know the topography of cities and popular points more than everyone else so there's a low chance you'd get lost. In the worst case, they'll just ask fellow drivers and get you to the desired destination. I took a ride from the city centre of Mandalay to the bottom of the Mandalay Hill. Little did I know was the road didn't go anywhere near to the Su Taung Pyae Pagoda so I needed to climb hundreds of steps to reach it, but it was definitely worth it! Children playing at the Schwedagon Pagoda in Tachileik, Myanmar. 🇲🇲🇲🇲🇲🇲 I got stuck in the little border town of Tachileik for 3 days as I didn't know I can't cross the country by the road to Mandalay. Everyone, and especially the police, told me I needed to take a flight or go back to Thailand and enter Myanmar from another border. The problem was my visa was single entry only so waiting for 3 days was the only solution not to waste more money for another visa application. There's something incredibly special about street markets, in the Southeast Asia and anywhere else in the World. I can easily wander around and get lost between stalls with lettuce, carrots or exotic fruits. Finding your way in this one in particular was fairly easy, the little market in the small border town of Tachileik hidden away from the main street in a local neighbourhood, between people's houses and covered with a provisional roof protecting from the sun at the noon. Most of the sellers were women, and the majority were happily posing in front of my camera. Ladies selling flowers at the entrance of a Hindu temple in Gokarna, India. 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳 I found this little town as one of the most impressive and magical during my trip around this incredible country soaked with mysteries, meditation and spiritualism. One main street, a few local restaurants with cheap and tasty food, not many western tourists and if so, people interested in meditation and seeking an alternative way of life. Friendly and curious locals, wandering around with a smile on their face. The taste of my first mango lassi. The sight of holy cows enjoying their time at the beach along with people. The feeling of peace at one of the temples, located at the top of the hill, that seemed to be abandoned. The view of the ocean from up there, the smell of light breeze and the sound of the wind in a tropical warm evening. The sunset.
