The orange canvas and national parks tote for my uncle is done!!
I’ll take photos with better lighting tomorrow when the sun is up again, but I’m so happy with how this turned out. I made the bag pattern myself, because I couldn’t find one the size I wanted, and it’s got two patch pockets on the inside because I bought way too much national parks fabric and because pockets are useful

Using dollar store trash bags to make plarn and then making bitching reusable bags or gathering bags. The water just runs through and it won't ruin the bag. So you can stuff it full of veggies or whatever and just hose them off right in the bag.
Bonus points they come in trans colors

literally just venting about walmart employees and how i just want to buy my damn groceries
okay walmart in my state doesn’t have plastic bags anymore and i’m not saying that’s a bad thing, that’s fine, good for the environment, great.
i thought that was just for pickup, i didn’t realize it was the whole store. I hate using a cart when i don’t really need to because it makes it so much more difficult to move about the store when it’s crowded, so when i went a week ago, i grabbed a basket. i had a half gallon of milk and like 7 different produce and a couple other small things and didn’t realize they didn’t have bags until i was already checking out. it was too much to carry in my hands so I just put it all back in the basket and then went to leave. the employee at the door stopped me and told me the baskets were not allowed outside because people steal them. there weren’t any carts on that side of the store. we basically went back and forth about the bags with me saying I’m not going back in to purchase those stupid blue totes, i want to leave with my groceries and he finally goes “WELL I GUESS it’s okay, AS LONG AS YOU BRING IT RIGHT BACK.”  just. frustrating, embarrassing, and a very difficult interaction for me due to my various mental conditions.
so tonight i go in with my reusable bags from home (branded by various cannabis companies, bands, and pretty graphics). and they don’t even have baskets at all anymore so A, if I have to buy any more than a handful of items but still less than a cart-full, i still have to use a stupid cart, and B, I’m SO GLAD that other employee harassed me over one basket so they could like ship them all off to the landfill or some shit.
but then the door employee stops me ON MY WAY IN. ABOUT MY REUSABLE BAGS. “Well do you have a return? You can’t just bring merchandise back in. What’s in that bag?” ....?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?
I have not seen them stop a single other person for these things?????????
JUST. LET ME. BUY. MY DAMN. GROCERIES.

So it turns out if I make this pattern with actual canvas instead of what I thought was canvas (it’s duck cloth) it’s a softer, more “reusable grocery bag” kind of bag and less of a tote?
This one is for my grandma! I think I’m making them for pretty much everyone on my list for the holidays this year

Back on my househusband sugishita thoughts and how he sometimes forgets to bring our reusable shopping bags when he buys groceries. He always ends up buying new ones at the store he’s currently shopping at & now we have an abundance of them at home

the whole backlash that's like "you know, reusable shopping bags aren't better for the environment.. you'd have to use them FIFTY times to make it better than a single use plastic bag!" bro... you aren't using your reusable bags more than 50 times... be so for real...

Someone tagged me the other day and mentioned this flavor of Goldfish crackers. (I'm sorry, I can't remember who did that.)
This afternoon I went to Target. There wasn't a single crying child! But the Target is in a city that, starting July 1, will force retailers to charge $0.05 per bag. Stores keep the bag fees, but are encouraged to use them for virtue signalling:
The bag fee is charged and kept by the business. Businesses can choose how to use the fees collected, but are encouraged to use the fees to recover costs for communications materials about their bag policy and other sustainability initiatives. Businesses will be required to annually report the number of bags and total fees collected.
OK, back to my shopping. In the cracker aisle I looked for the pizza flavored Goldfish crackers. None were to be seen. Not a big surprise.
There was an Alfred E. Neuman-like gap on the bottom shelf. I got down on my hands and knees to see if I might find a stray bag of my favorite flavor.
No luck. But there were two bags of the spicy dill pickle Goldfish crackers hiding way back there. I like pickles and spicy things. I also had been thinking of these since I'd been tagged in a Tumblr post.
I like the taste enough that I'd buy a bag of this flavor about twice a year. The flavoring is a sprayed-on dust. To me it concentrates the flavor. They don't have the rich, evenly distributed, baked-in flavor inherent in the pizza Goldfish.
That flavoring dust means you get Cheetos fingers eating these 'fish, so have a paper towel handy. It's not bright orange, but you do feel it on your digits.
