The office feels like an oven today. The oscillation of the ceiling fan is becoming more of a bother than a help. You listen to the busy sounds of the restaurant above getting ready for dinner. It smells awfully good, too. The kitchen is over your little reception area and the scent of food cooking carries through the building.

There's only one hour left of work. Then, you're free to go home and rid yourself of the suffocating office attire, have some dinner and enjoy one or two cool glasses of wine before you pass out in bed like every night.

As you let out a sigh and go back to your task, you hear the steps descending the staircase before the door opens. Your head snaps to the side to find Joe Teague entering the hot dungeon that people call an office. Clad in a grey suit and hat, he tips the brim of his fedora in your direction before removing it.

“Do you have an appointment, Detective Teague?” you question with a certain playful tone but try to keep it professional.

“Show Teague Mr. Frederick's file. I gotta go. I got a lead on Woodcomb,” Lon glances at you, holding his briefcase in one hand, a hat in his other. “Ask Nico to walk you to your car when you're done here.”

“Sure, have a good evening, Mr. Cochran,” you nod formally at your boss.

“You too, doll,” then he pegs Joe with a nod. “Good luck with Frederick's, Teague. Let me know how that pans out.”

“I will.”

You wait until your boss has left to hand over the requested file to Joe. You show it in his direction and as he reaches to take it from your hand, you snatch it away playfully before handing it over.

He sits in one of the chairs across your desk and opens the folder while you resume your assignment.

“Who's Nico and why does he have to walk you to your car?” He lifts an eyebrow while inspecting the case file.

“Why? Are you jealous?”

“Just curious.”

“Nico works in the restaurant,” you explain, vaguely pointing at the ceiling. “There's a mugger in the area prying on women. Lon’s just been looking out for me.”

As you walk around barefoot, your eyes occasionally glance in his direction. It's been a while since you’ve seen him with that many clothes on him.

You don’t have the most traditional relationship with the Detective. Joe keeps asking your hand in marriage, and you keep stubbornly refusing it, so he has to keep coming back to earn you.

Though, you're not intentionally playing a game here, it's entertaining to see him so smitten with you. Men usually move on after a while with you. They know you’re not that kind of woman to settle down with, and as soon as they realize you’re just a cheap lay, they move on quickly.

Marriage is not something in your cards. At least not yet. You're no stranger to how men lose interest the same way the second there’s a ring around their lover's finger, and you’re not ready to take that step without knowing you'll always be all for him. And given Joe’s history with his previous sweetheart, you're not looking forward to becoming the second woman to carry his name.

Everything We Know About Deadwood's Fourth and Fifth Season

The first episode would be the original season 3 finale. Bullock would refuse to resign and lock himself in his office in defiance until Al would come up and make a speech about how George Washington when asked to become king by the continental congress "Sheathed his sword" in response saying that this new nation would become a government of laws instead of man and so that's what Bullock must do as well. Ultimately Bullock is convinced and respects the electoral process.

The Series would end with Bullock, Charlie, and Jane leaving Deadwood, with Bullock leaving to become a US Marshall.

Al Swearengin would slowly lose power and influence over the camp over the course of the season, growing sicker and weaker from alcoholism.

At some point mid season the entire camp would burst in flame due to some "Jackass with fireworks", finally following through with build up throughout the series.

A flood would happen at some point to further destroy the town.

Manning would slowly be corrupted by Hearst.

Doc Holliday would appear

Jack Langrishe would encourage Alma to become a novelist.

The Love triangle between Bullock, Alma, and Martha would end in "status quo ante bellum" and be depressing.

William Levingston the father of Standard Oil founder John D. Rockefeller and notorious bigamist psychopath would be the main antagonist of season 4. He'd be a conman selling medicine with a "Indian" (Actually a black man named Johnson) which would actually be booze, resulting in a conflict with Doc Cochran. Eventually Yellow Journalists would swarm the camp due to bounties offered by newspapers for evidence of his fathers wereabouts.

Aunt Lou would be explored and would open a restaurant

The Chinatown would be important and the following seasons would examine the ugliness of race relations in America during this period

Jane and Joanie would enter in a relationship that ends bittersweet.

General Fields taking care of Steve the Drunk would be a plotline

The town would be booming and growing larger, with Bullock struggling being fire chief.

Doc Cochran would die of tuberculosis

Langrishe and Al would form a rivalry

Johnny would go against Al, forcing Silas and Dan to take sides

The Theater Group and Jack Langrishe in general would be seen as Hearst's foil as they are trying to bring civilization in a humane way. The girl Claudia is Langrishe's daughter.

Hearst would return at some point and a lot of what happened in the movie would take a entire season long. Hearst would also buy out Merrick's newspapers, break a strike, rig elections, and bribe judges in an attempt to get his way while the town fights back against him.

Cy would have a complete mental breakdown and redemption arc.

Al would become more unstable and back to his season 1 personality due to alcohol abuse.

Martha would open up a school and become a leading member of society

90% of what happened in real life during this period would be replicated in the show, the rest being creative liberties.

Charlie would ask Joanie to marry him.

Sol being a mayor would be a major season 4 plot point, he and Trixie would get married and have a child

Al would be broke due to the banning of prostitution

Wild Bill's murder would be reenacted at some point, this becoming a town tradition.

Keep in mind that according to Milch some of these ideas may be reworked or cut had the season been greenlit, and Deadwood was a collaborative set, so the actors would add their own ideas as well.

Kelso Benjamin Cochrane (September 26, 1926 - May 17, 1959) one of the early victims of racial violence against West Indians in London, was born in Johnson’s Point, Antigua to Joanna Valentine and Stanley Cochrane. He was born into a working-class family and was a carpenter. In 1949, he then moved to the US. He began working on an agricultural labor contract in Florida. He met and married Kansas Green and the couple had a daughter.

They moved to New York City to re-establish themselves but failed. He returned to Antigua and migrated to Great Britain in September 1954.

He continued to work as a carpenter whilst saving to attend law school. He then met Olivia Ellington. In June 1959, they planned on getting married. On May 17, he was murdered. He had to pass a popular pub frequented by Sir Oswald Mosley, a well-known white nationalist and staunch anti-immigrant advocate, and his supporters. From across the street, six white men shouted, “Hey, Jim Crow” at Cochrane. The men descended upon him and stabbed him. He was rushed to St. Charles’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His last words were, “They asked me for money. I told them I had none.” Since the Nottingham and Notting Hill riots, in 1958, racial tensions within those areas remained high.

On June 6, 1959, his funeral was held at St Michael’s and All Angel’s Church in Notting Hill. A crowd of 1,200 lined the streets to mourn his death. The Prime Minister of the West Indies Federation, the High Commissioner of Ghana, and the Mayor of Kensington were in attendance. In July 1959 and on May 17, 1960, Mosley and his supporters held a “Keep Britain White” campaign meeting at the spot where he was murdered.

When he was alive, he was unknown. In his death, his face and life story became intertwined with discussions of Black rights and protest movements in Britain and the Atlantic world in the post-WWII era. On May 17, 2009, a blue plaque was unveiled at the Golbourne Bar and Restaurant, which is now “West Thirty-Six,” opposite where he was attacked. Josephine Garis Cochran (sometimes spelled Cochrane) (1839-1913) is largely unknown now, but she should be declared the patron saint of the modern busy family. For in 1886, she patented the first commercial dishwasher.

Cochran wanted a machine that would save time washing dishes, and would prevent broken crockery. She was convinced that there had to be a mechanical solution to the tedium of dishwashing. Josephine grew up in a family of engineers, but finding no one that could or would invent such a machine, she vowed, “If nobody else is going to invent a dishwashing machine, I’ll do it myself.”

So she invented a contraption of gears, belts, and pulleys that could take a cage filled with over 200 dirty dishes, and would re-appear a few minutes later with the dishes as clean as if they had been hand-washed. Her machine, unlike others that had been attempted, was the first to use water pressure rather than scrubbers to clean the dishes. It also had fitted racks to hold the dishes and cutlery in place.

Once her patent application, under the name of “J.G. Cochran” was approved, the next challenge was production. “I couldn’t get men to do the things I wanted in my way until they had tried and failed in their own,” Josephine later explained. “And that was costly for me. They knew I knew nothing, academically, about mechanics, and they insisted on having their own way with my invention until they convinced themselves my way was the better, no matter how I had arrived at it.”

In 1886, with the aid of a young mechanic named George Butters, she set to work in a woodshed behind her home bringing the first prototype to life.

Once she had the patent and a machine, she had to sell the dishwashers. Although she wanted to sell directly to women, as they would appreciate how much drudgery the machine eliminated, because very few households in the 19th century could afford to pay over $100 for an appliance, her main customers were large hotels and restaurants.

She was successful at sales, but it was very difficult to challenge the mores of the 19th century, to enter these establishments on her own. When discussing selling to a large hotel, she described it as “almost the hardest thing I ever did, I think, crossing the great lobby of the Sherman House alone. You cannot imagine what it was like in those days…for a woman to cross a hotel lobby alone. I had never been anywhere without my husband or father—the lobby seemed a mile wide. I thought I should faint at every step, but I didn’t—and I got an $800 order as my reward.”

In 1893, she exhibited her dishwashers at the Columbian Exhibition World’s Fair in Chicago, and the orders came pouring in from schools, colleges, hospitals and other large institutions. Her product, the Garis-Cochran Dishwasher was a success.

With the assistance of her business partner, George Butters, they opened a factory in 1898, Cochran’s Crescent Washing Machine Company. At first the dishwashing machines were used primarily by large businesses and institutions, but decades later, Cochran’s invention eventually evolved into the appliance considered essential by millions of householders today.

Cochran died of a stroke in 1913, a very successful businesswoman. Her company was bought out in 1926 by the Hobart Corporation which produced appliances under the KitchenAid brand. In 1986, KitchenAid was acquired by Whirlpool.

Josephine Garis Cochran was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2006. In 2013, on the 100 year anniversary of her death, the country of Romania (a country with which Cochran had no connection) issued a postage stamp in her honor, an indication of just how widespread her influence was.

In 1979, 21-year-old Geneva Colton was pronounced dead only 6 hours after her legal abortion at Northside Family Planning Service. She had been taken to the hospital with no vital signs at 8:30 PM and after an hour of attempted resuscitation still had no signs of life.

The autopsy showed that her uterus had been perforated and that Geneva bled to death internally. NFP had sent her on her way to die with no warning of the danger she was in.

The abortion facility had malpractice insurance, but was later sued by their malpractice insurer because they’d allowed an abortionist to continue to operate even though his manual dexterity had significantly deteriorated due to multiple sclerosis. The lawsuit by the insurer also stated failure to meet state health standards, failure to have enough nurses on duty, failure to have proper on-call procedures, and lack of a professional director of medical services.

Geneva left behind 2 surviving children who had their sibling and their mother taken away from them just a few hours apart. It’s especially heartbreaking considering how hard Geneva was working to make a better life for herself and her children. She was a full-time meter maid and school crossing guard and worked a part-time job at a restaurant. She was just about to complete her GED when she was killed, and her dream of becoming a police officer would forever remain unachieved because of “safe and legal” abortion.
