As party season approaches, it must be re stated that adopting a party clown just for summer birthdays and holidays is a bad idea.
If the adoption is souly for the sake of entertainment for such events it is inevitable that care towards the living breathing creature will dwindle after the season is over, and scary clowns and harlequins "come into season"
Clowns do not have seasons, they are a responsibility year round.

Ok I know my last posts were not the most coherent so to sum it up: upon being exposed to strange aeon's superwholock video Bookmark began honking frantically and spitting foam (I have since realized it was just whipped cream??) I spent the past 15ish minutes calming him down and constructing a temporary terrarium/enclosure to monitor his recovery in a safe way. I will post the enclosure shortly. If anyone has ANY information about his freak out PLEASEE contact me!!!! I really hope he is not homophobic

do you have a favorite color?
I could never choose only one, if I had to narrow it down to a specific color palette id say a fading sunset of pink, yellow, orange and purple, but like all things it’s subject to change.
#asks#I have a few new clown husbandry asks I’m still drafting responses for#fear not if you submitted one#I promise I’ll get to it asap#I’m just busy atm and making simpler posts is faster#<3

The greatest injustice ever faced is that I almost certainly started the still thriving "clown husbandry" tag on here, but any discussion about it (from a know your meme page to a youtube video with 500k views) says it's a joke of "unknown origin" or credited to this post, likely bouncing off of mine (which was actively circulating at the time with like 30k notes):
This is a tragedy for many reasons, most of all because it wasn't just an offhand joke but actually a direct response to some of the funniest online hate I ever got:
They're erasing the truest history of tumblr: its desperate need to seethe and argue over every obvious joke with more than 10 notes.
anyways here is the canonical pet clown. according to me
#but tumblr... i am pagliacci#clown husbandry#look strange aeons on youtube. i know you browse this tag.#I don't respect your 2011 tumblr core take on steven moffat#but I will forgive it when you right this wrong#EDIT: a few people think i'm saying i originated the concept of referring to a clown like an animal#i didn't. i mean i made this really specific joke about exotic animal husbandry and a lot of mutuals bounced off of it with similar jokes#and that's what people started tagging 'clown husbandry'#to this day when you look for the origins a lot of mutual's names (who also kept chickens/pigeons/reptiles/etc) pop up because of this

This is a very important topic!
Remember, though, that not all service clowns wear a vest, and plenty of pet clowns are *not* friendly with strangers, so it's absolutely best to
Never:
Call out to, or otherwise Distract
Approach
Try to Feed or
Touch
ANY unfamiliar clown you see.
If you don't know that clown, and more importantly that clown doesn't know you, then assume it is either working or dangerous and keep a good distance.
If a clown approaches you in public, put your hands in fists against your stomach and walk **don't run** backwards while saying "be a good clown, go back, go clown, go!" in a calm but firm and louder than usual voice.
Don't make direct eye contact, but don't turn your back on the clown until you are inside a locked building (some clowns can operate doors) or a safe distance.
Hopefully, the clown's owner will come quickly and restrain their clown and/or their clown and leave the space, after apologizing.
(I won't go into clown defense here, because I'm not an expert I just have a level of personal experience, but if there is sufficient interest, I will share about that in another post. Anyone who might be interested, feel free to Pm/Ask.)
(•́⍜•̀) (•́⍜•̀) (•́⍜•̀) (•́⍜•̀) (•́⍜•̀)
I feel it's worth mention that a clown that doesn't stay heeled, most likely is not a properly trained legitimate service clown (this is true of all service companions of any species, and there is no excuse for it.) and often such a scene will make them skedaddle before anyone asks any questions or makes any complaints.
I think people who bring such clowns in public spaces that only service companions are admitted, are disrespectful of and a great risk to not just the general public, but their clowns, legitimate service companions and their owners who rely on them, as well as themselves.
There is sometimes debate about this issue as though the line is between physical and psychological/emotional service companions, but, imho, it isn't. Both psychological and physical service companions are still medical service companions. What matters, and what the conversation *should* be about is trained (for public spaces/benefit/safety behavior, tasking, non-distraction, responsiveness, etc) versus untrained.
Owning a clown is a joy, but it's also a responsibility, whether it's for medical support, or simply a love of their species. I think responsibility-focused ownership is what's best for clowns, the clown owning community, service companions, and everyone else, because it's just doing what's best for everyone.
🥰🤡🌏🐕🦺🥰
Public service announcement!
If you see a service/emotional support clown in public, DO NOT INTERACT!! I’m tired of hearing story after story from my friends about how someone was distracting their service clown. If they have a vest on they’re working, end of story! Don’t try to get them to honk, show you a magic trick, and especially don’t try to feed them. Just pretend like they’re not there. Thank you

I don't want to be "that guy" but I'd be really hesitant even joking about buying a clown from a store. You have a lot of followers and they might get the wrong idea. Anyone considering a clown would be much better off getting one from an ethical breeder with a good track record of responsible clown husbandry, or adopting a rescue clown from a licensed shelter.
You're right, but luckily the city has passed an ordinance here banning the sale of clowns and jesters in stores, so all available clowns are from the city shelter!

I wrote a Whole Response to this ask and then I was like oh I wanna browse clown tumblr a bit so I went to save it as a draft and TUMBLR made it come up RED and deleted my whoole thing. So the ask box and the drafts on the blog get eaten up into tumblr’s bottomless gullet. Save me, friends :0( [sad honking noises]
BUT!! Thank you so so much for the ask anon, I got so excited!! :03
You all know parties, pierrot, and scares, but HERE are some clown breeds for YOU that you might not have known about!! (Maybe some of my personal favs hehe)
Porcelains are a favorite of mine- maybe because I care for one myself!!! I’ve seen a lot of pictures of them on my dash, but no one really talking about the breed itself. I think it’s pretty important to do so since they’re not a beginner breed, mostly due to their fragility. They’re very prone to cracking :,0( They evolved from clayface clowns, and their porcelain skin was believe to have been evolved to protect them, like a bird’s egg would- so it’s very good at evenly distributing force, but certain things can cause it to crack.
They enjoy the finer things in life- frills and shiny objects, pastries and sweets- Pinkee has been particularly fond of tea parties recently…. <3 They’re usually very small and dainty little things!! They’re also commonly mixed with other clown breeds such as parties or Pierrot!! Pinkee says hello!!
Rodeos are a breed of clown that I don’t think gets enough love, especially because they’re so so interesting!! Not many people care for them in the home- which I understand, since it’s a bit difficult to reproduce their natural environment. They’re used to warmth, having originated from the desert, and you know.., bull fights are a little difficult to just whip out in your backyard. They’re a very daring, energetic, and charming breed though! Some of my favs <3
Acrobats!!! Ough!! /pos!! They’re definitely not a breed I see on tumblr a lot, in comparison to their working human counterparts for which they were named. Different varieties/subspecies have popped up all over the globe, which I think is really cool!! They tend to parallel the humans performing the tricks they love :)) which I think is really sweet.. <3 They require a looooot of space, which is why they’re not as common domestically- they need room and equipment to swing and leap around. Their unique behaviors are what make them some of my favorites!!
Jesters have been making a comeback, as evident from my little friend Pinkee. They’re a living underdog story, really! They originate from the court jester, which was a breed that was believed to have gone extinct by the 21st century, due to the loss of their habitat and the way they evolved into different modern breeds of clown. But following the discovery of an isolated colony, clown husbandry enthusiasts worldwide have been working to spread this newer, more modern form of this breed that is more reminiscent of the court jester!! Court jesters themselves are very interesting to me, I always have some hope they’re not actually extinct,,
Teddies are, well- very similar to teddy bears, and come in a lot of different aesthetic varieties!! Usually very frilly and fluffy <33 They’re very good with kids and are overall just an extremely pleasant breed and wonderful for families! Very low maintenance as well- though they still need love and attention just like any other clown!!! They’re super common- sometimes you’ll see a teddy and you might not even know it’s a living clown, which has spooked me at the shelter,,,,,,,,Many Times,,,,,,,, I love them dearly though, they’re such cute little things! They love pastries and fluffier foods like cotton candy!
And those are some of my favs/breeds I think deserve more love!!!!! I can write up some more if you need, I was just very excited to write abt these guys!!!
Sending love! Please update us on that master post if you can!

getting a clown
i have been interested in clown husbandry for some years now, and would like to attempt to get a clown of my own. I will preface this, by stating that, yes, though I am a beginner, I have indeed done prior research beforehand. I am particularly interested in porcelain and glass clowns, particularly those of stained glass clowns. I have my on a good adoption center for clowns as a potential option but I want to get more experienced opinions on the matter for a beginner. I have a small dog, and not an insane amount of space for a clown, so it would be important to have something small, ideally. Thankyou in advance for any responses I get, I truly have the greatest respect for all you people here and the hard work you do educating others on clown species, new, mixed, care, stereotypes, suggestions, etcetera, I previously had an unconscious stereotyping of scare clowns and other similar clowns of the like due to their depictions in movies, though thankfully since learning more from clownblr I have been able to gain more insight and an open mind on the matter! Awaiting future responses, Niko. PS. (I may have gotten some clown species names wrong due to struggle remembering the specifics of names, my bad!)

This is Molly, our mascot here at WildChild shelters.
As much as we adore her, she isn't a mascot because of her disposition, or even her coloration.
The sad fact is she is unable to be safely adopted due to her lineage.
Female mimes should only be breed to other quiet or preferably silent breeds. (If one can not be persuaded against breed a female mime to a noisy breed or such happens accidently socialization is key)
Molly's father was half weeping and half giggling clown. (exact mix hidden to prevent dangerous breeding)
Due to Molly's tendency to both sob and laugh frequently her mother rejected her. After being rejected she was left in a box on the highway.
This has made Molly very insecure, resulting in her needing round the clock company, very unlike most mimes to whom such intensive care would be stressfull.
The fact is correct interactions during formative years from both care takers and parents is especially important in all clowns, and that includes breeding safely and responsibly.

hey, im new to clown husbandry and such and found your blog cute and interesting. so now im here asking, what breeds are your clowns?
HiiiI!!! Thank you for taking an interest in my little family :3 I hope you enjoy clown husbandry! It's such a fun way to meet new people, both human and clown alike. My clowns are all Teacup mixes of some sort. I used to believe that Bookmark was pure Teacup Party Clown but I feel like there's probably something else in there too! Skiggly-wump is 100% some type of mutt but I know he definitely has some Mime in him, and I'm thinking also a little bit of Cursed Amulet Beast in as well (I know cross breeds like that are rare, but he's been known to exhibit some.. unnatural abilities). He is also a little bit of a runt so in my eyes he is like the little Chihuahua of the group! Cakepop is purebred Dark Jester and I got her from an overseas breeder! If you're not good at reading clown needs do NOT get a clown with muted colors. They're either really intense or really laid back, but they still have the same basic needs as any other clown and it can be hard to tell what exactly they need at any given moment. If you want one "for the aesthetic" only and have no experience I highly recommend you either 1. Don't get a clown or 2. Make absolutely sure that you can take care of them before adopting. Clowns are real creatures with real responsibilities attached!!! I trust that you will be good, but I can't in good conscious let a new clown husbandry fan out into the world without warning them that they need to be responsible!! There is a lot of power in caring for something.
Sorry for the rant but it's been so long since I've gotten to talk clown husbandry with someone! Good luck in your clown journey, friend, and I hope I didn't scare you lol
My clowns say hi!!!
#They're all also porcelain clowns except for skiggly-wump#and I think it makes them really pretty#clown husbandry#clownblr#clown posting#clown#clown doll#clowncore#clowns#clown dolls#clown friend#bookmark the clown#cakepop the clown#skiggly the clown#clown asks
