Really hate the idea that horror elements in children's media exists *despite* the fact of it being for children and not on purpose. Teaching children to deal with fear is an important part of making art meant for them and to reduce it to a "wink wink" at adults misses the point of why children's media exists
#we really need to do away w the “how did they allow this on a KID'S SHOW 😱” kind of rhetoric#it's annoying and keeps us frm asking more interesting questions abt how to effectively introduce these concepts to kids#respect children as an audience!!#blabbering

In my Zeus bag today so I'm just gonna put it out there that exactly none of the great Ancient Greek warrior-heroes stayed loyal and faithful and completely monogamous and yet none of them have their greatness questioned nor do we question why they had the cultural prominence that they did and still do.
Jason, the brilliant leader of the Argo, got cold feet when it came to Medea - already put off by some of her magic and then exiled from his birthland because of her political ploys, he took Creusa to bed and fully intended on marrying her despite not properly dissolving things with Medea.
Theseus was a fierce warrior and an incredibly talented king but he had a horrible temper and was almost fatally weak to women. This is the man who got imprisoned in the Underworld for trying to get a friend laid, the man who started the whole Attic War because he couldn't keep his legs closed.
And we cannot at all forget Heracles for whom a not inconsiderable amount of his joy in life was loving people then losing the people around him that he loved. Wives, children, serving boys, mentors, Heracles had a list of lovers - male and female - long enough to rival some gods and even after completing his labours and coming down to the end of his life, he did not have one wife but three.
And y'know what, just because he's a cultural darling, I'll put Achilles up here too because that man was a Theseus type where he was fantastic at the thing he was born to do (that is, fight whereas Theseus' was to rule) but that was not enough to eclipse his horrid temper and his weakness to young pretty things. This is the man that killed two of Apollo's sons because they wouldn't let him hit - Tenes because he refused to let Achilles have his sister and Troilus who refused Achilles so vehemently that he ran into Apollo's temple to avoid him and still couldn't escape.
All four of these men are still celebrated as great heroes and men. All four of these men are given the dignity of nuance, of having their flaws treated as just that, flaws which enrich their character and can be used to discuss the wider cultural point of what truly makes a hero heroic. All four of these men still have their legacies respected.
Why can that same mindset not be applied to Zeus? Zeus, who was a warrior-king raised in seclusion apart from his family. Zeus who must have learned to embrace the violence of thunder for every time he cried as a babe, the Corybantes would bang their shields to hide the sound. Zeus learned to be great because being good would not see the universe's affairs in its order.
The wonderful thing about sympathy is that we never run out of it. There's no rule stopping us from being sympathetic to multiple plights at once, there's no law that necessitate things always exist on the good-evil binary. Yes, Zeus sentenced Prometheus to sufferation in Tartarus for what (to us) seems like a cruel reason. Prometheus only wanted to help humans! But when you think about Prometheus' actions from a king's perspective, the narrative is completely different: Prometheus stole divine knowledge and gifted it to humans after Zeus explicitly told him not to. And this was after Prometheus cheated all the gods out of a huge portion of wealth by having humans keep the best part of a sacrifice's meat while the gods must delight themselves with bones, fat and skin. Yes, Zeus gave Persephone away to Hades without consulting Demeter but what king consults a woman who is not his wife about the arrangement of his daughter's marriage to another king? Yes, Zeus breaks the marriage vows he set with Hera despite his love of her but what is the Master of Fate if not its staunchest slave?
The nuance is there. Even in his most bizarre actions, the nuance and logic and reason is there. The Ancient Greeks weren't a daft people, they worshipped Zeus as their primary god for a reason and they did not associate him with half the vices modern audiences take issue with. Zeus was a father, a visitor, a protector, a fair judge of character, a guide for the lost, the arbiter of revenge for those that had been wronged, a pillar of strength for those who needed it and a shield to protect those who made their home among the biting snakes. His children were reflections of him, extensions of his will who acted both as his mercy and as his retribution, his brothers and sisters deferred to him because he was wise as well as powerful. Zeus didn't become king by accident and it is a damn shame he does not get more respect.
#ginger rambles#ginger chats about greek myths#greek mythology#It's Zeus Apologist day actually#For the record Jason is my personal favourite of these guys#The argonauts are extremely underrated for literally no reason#And Jason's wit and sheer ability to adapt along with his piousness are traits that are so far away from what usually gets highlighted#with the typical Greek warrior-hero that I've just never stopped being captivated by him#Conversely I still do not understand what people see in Achilles#I respect him and his legacy I respect the importance of his tale and his cultural importance I promise I do#However I personally can't stand the guy LMAO#How do you get warned twice TWICE both by your mother and by Athena herself that going after Apollo's children is a bad idea#And still have the audacity to be mad and surprised when Apollo is gunning for Specifically You during the war you're bringing to His City#That You Specifically and Exclusively had a choice in avoiding#ACHILLES COULD'VE JUST SAID NO#I know that's not the point however so many other members of the Greek camp were simply casualties of Fate in every conceivable way man#Achilles looked at every terrible choice he could possibly make said “Well I'm gonna die anyway 🤷🏽” and proceeded to make the choice#so hard that he angered god#That's y'all's man right there#I left out Perseus because truthfully I don't actually know much about him#I haven't studied him even a fraction as much as I've studied some of the other big culture heroes and none of this is cited so i don't wan#to talk about stuff I don't know 100%#Anyway justice for Zeus fr#Gimme something give me literally anything other than the nonsense we usually get for him#This goes for Hera too btw#Both the king and queen of the skies are done TERRIBLY by wider greek myth audiences and it's genuinely disheartening to see#If y'all could make excuses for Achilles to forgive his flaws y'all can do it for them#They have a lot more to sympathise with I'll tell you that#(that is a completely biased statement; you are completely free and encouraged to enjoy whichever figures spark joy)#zeus

God I wish my brain didn't shut down the moment I try to actually write down anything about my OCs/ideas/etc. I've got some freaks knocking around in here y'all would go wild for.
#My personal blorbo Asherah began as a knockoff Marika but boy she's a lot more now#orphan raised as a sacrificial priestess to the Sun/Heaven's Firstborn#finagled her way into being high priestess and kept the Sun at bay by making herself invaluable and sacrificing the other priestesses#which she never forgave herself for#she also sacrificed giant Kingdom Death style white lions which she would eventually kind of take up as her personal symbol/totem#uses a plucky barbarian hero who somehow managed to do the impossible and downed the leader of the invading faeries#which earned him an audience with the Sun#(who was going to eat him)#instead Asherah and the priestesses (along with the Stars who are cousins of the gods who got the short end of the stick) set a trap#and she and Ansu (the hero guy) trap/weaken the Sun in its own chariot/ship and slaughtered it (with the ghosts of the priestesses/lions)#then drove the chariot to heaven to threaten God itself into actually respecting humanity (instead of viewing them as prayer cattle)#bathing in the ichor of the Sun made them both Immortal immortal#as in can't die ever bc they're barred from the afterlife and infused with incorruptible divine light#They had a brief romance and a political marriage but neither actually want it#but they're undying and keep running back into each other#They both dealt with immortality poorly#Asherah became obsessed with legacy and control so that she would *never* be victimized like that again#nor would her children (so long as they do what she says)#and Ansu wants nothing more than to escape the destiny as hero king but due to being a basically normal guy/“guy” who killed two gods#fate has it out for Ansu#This was like ten thousand years before the modern day#basically all of the settings history has been these two assholes and their immediate family causing problems

This post has kinda got me thinking again. While I don’t hate future trio/love their dynamic and rapport with eachother (Dusknoir and Grovyle were the most enjoyable characters to me in that game), it has made the motivation to draw them dwindle. Seeing as a drawing that may take me hours can easily be outdone by a 30-minute future-trio doodle I do. It just makes it harder to make art for them since it now feels like the easiest way of garnering an audience <<< (knows this from the scarce times I drew those 3 together and my posts blew up).
It’s fandom culture and I’m not here to whine or complain, audiences will go to the characters that intrigue them more/I’ve learn to run my own race but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’ve just lost the vigor to draw Grovyle n Celebi w/ Dusknoir as a result of it.
#something something can’t control audiences/they’ll go to whatever they like#which I totally understand. and I can appreciate the pmd fandom for being the one to genuinely put their souls and love into drawing those#three; but that being said you are not seeing future trio art from me in awhile. I only wanna draw them when I absolutely want to.#I’m not here to cater my art to anyone but myself. so you’re only gonna see the brooding ghost man and his children#the ‘what could’ve been’s’ in my mind of ‘what if you only drew future trio’ is a thought that kinda hurts sometimes since I already know#the answer to that#and admittedly if you see me draw less it’s potentially bc of that or college#that being said scribz if you see this post specifically just know I genuinely respect and appreciate your genuine love and effort put into#your future trio drawings and I hope you keep rocking.

I’m curious why you found Inside Out 2 insulting? I recognize that everyone is different, but as someone with an anxiety disorder I personally found it pretty relatable
Throughout my teenage years, when my anxiety was at its most debilitating and my coping skills were basically nonexistent, I was repeatedly met with the idea that "every teen is a bit anxious". This, to an extent, is true, being a teenager IS scary and you're probably going to have some level of anxiety. However, I had an active anxiety disorder. I was prone to frequent panic attacks, skipping school because I couldn't even fathom the idea of going to class out of just sheer intense dread and fear, and all around just having an extremely bad time. I went into the movie with an already decently negative expectation because of that, I didn't like how anxiety was shown to show up ONLY when Riley became a teenager, BUT I was willing to set aside my own distaste of it for the sake of like, I do get why they went the direction of adding new emotions as characters, as much as I disagree with that.
However I found it wildly insulting because I feel the level of intense anxiety Riley is shown to have breaches what I'd consider a "normal" level of anxiety and instead feels more like an anxiety disorder, which, again, it angers me to be once again met with the idea that you only get anxious once you're a teenager, or when signs of much higher levels of anxiety than just normal nervousness are brushed aside with that excuse.
Barring that issue, though that is the biggest in my opinion, basically at every corner I was annoyed by something. This movie felt like it could've been incredibly relatable to me, I was a horrendously anxious teen (Still am anxious just not a teen and also I'm better at coping now) in competitive highschool sports (Yes marching band IS a sport I DO die on this hill), but like... it just continually let me down. The coach is genuinely an asshole, doing things like not showing what the expectations are and then proceeding to single out who she knows are the newcomers as breaking rules that had not been properly established, failing to recognize Riley clearly struggling mentally, and honestly, the biggest sin, fucking letting her in the sport at all. Riley's outburst at the other players should've gotten her taken out of the running entirely, I refuse to believe otherwise.
Which, this is kind of all over the place because I'm not really writing this as a full proper breakdown and more just "Jay angrily rambles to an anon with no direction", but hey, SUPER don't like that Riley's over-practicing isn't really called out at all as being harmful. The ROOT of it is, we know she's only doing that because anxiety is driving her to do that, but like... she performs really well. She's met by the older student (I forget her name, God) with positivity for this, and I'm personally just kind of uncomfortable with how her overworking herself is viewed as just like... neutral. And it's only the fact it's stemming from anxiety that's bad.
There's a lot more (I found the pacing bad, I think, ESPECIALLY given that this is a childrens movie, Riley should've been given EXPLICIT help from the people around her barring just "her friends say they're still friends", I think things like anxiety driving her to look at the notebook yet NOT considering the janitor walking by is just... stupid, and in my experience, not at all how anxiety manifests, ect, ect), but ultimately this is not like, a serious breakdown, more just me listing off the top of my head the things that really fucking annoyed me. Also, Ennui was a stupid character. I mean all of the new emotions were fucking stupid because they're all VERY derivative of OTHER emotions if you've made the commitment that the entire range of human emotion be boiled down to just joy/sadness/anger/fear/disgust, but whatever.
I thought the video game guy was funny though. I'm a sucker for those kinds of jokes. I like that his hair routinely was clipping through his outfit
#FOR THE RECORD not mad at you anon <3#and id have to go reference my original ramblings i had with lane to make a more structured takedown of everything that bothered me#but generally i think it failed to present anxiety in a way i think is helpful- rather perpetrating the exact sentiment-#-that i find WILDLY unhelpful and frequently very harmful#and also given that its target audience is children- i think it failed to give kids resources of which to actually HELP themselves-#-or express themselves better when they ARE anxious#I think the core of my issue is just. I think the way Riley is shown falls much more in line with disordered anxiety than just normal teen-#-anxiousness. and it upsets me that its not treated as such and not shown respect as such#ALSO. HEY SUPER UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE IMPLICATION OF HER EMOTIONS NOT KNOWING HER SECRETS#that makes me deeply uncomfortable bc like. that implies some more serious issues at play#which yes obviously the movie is not trying to imply that At All. but i still feel its a bit irresponsible with that anyways

terribly sorry for progressively getting more and more annoyed and tired with jn. this show kinda gets a lot more exhausting on a rewatch when you know its not going to get better
#i think what happened when it was airing was that like. it was the direct successor to sun and moon right?#and that was a show EVERYONE shat on when it got revealed. the setting the art change the shift to a goofier style etc etc#but then it aired and aside from some hiccups while adjusting the first few eps- sm turned out to be a joy of a show#not just for a casual watch- you can tune on most episodes without context and just have a pleasant time bc its a cozy show#but also if youre more into the battle scene bc this series kinda goes hard on them#and while the episodes had a goofier tone to them the episodes never felt like they were talking down to its audience#everyone brings up the deaths and how maturely they were handled but seriously- they didnt need to go that hard on the minior episode#and yet- it took fans a long time to really come around to it and stop giving it bad faith criticism#the most popular youtubers were finding every excuse to shit on it and mock the fans#so i think when jn was announced with another slight art shift and a different format- i think we all got a little defensive over it#like hey sm had hiccups too! jn just needs some time to grow into itself and find its footing#and we had no reason to think it wouldn’t. like there were some red flags like how mimey was handled and some clickbait episodes#but we got genuinely nice episodes back then too! the scorbunny eps were neat and ash and gohs intro eps are great#the pichu opening is REALLY strong and i thought it showed a ton of promise for the show#the leon and eternatus stuff was being set up#so i waited for jn to pick up and waved off a lot of criticism as bad faith bc hey. ppl were ruthless to sm and forgetting that we do have t#to work with the limit that its a childrens series. which is fine.#but well…… suddenly we’re in the final arc and its not better. its worse. holy shit did it get worse#episodes like the drizzile one were now the exception. not the rule.#most episodes that are pleasant on a first watch became an absolute slog on a rewatch#the ‘’fanservice’’ feels more like a marketing ploy than an attempt to respect the characters. the production value was a goddamn mess.#entire arcs went unresolved#so it gave me rose tinted glasses until it all fell apart at once for me at the end#but now i have the joyful experience of watching the whole thing through knowing damn good and well it gets worse. yay#echoed voice#jn lb

thank you jin 🥺
#its real tho so many things i was a fan of as a kid i end up growing out of looking back at#and realizing it kinda sucks#but if it isnt obvious kgp(r) is not one of those medias#the exact opposite actually if these past 4 months of kgprambling proved anything#basically what jin is saying: when ur a kid anything seems impressive to you#so there are artists and writers out there who dont respect their audiences bc they dont believe its worth the effort#to convey anything to them#but here jin is saying even if his audience are children theyre still worthy of being earnest to#which is so touching to me since i got into kgp(r) as a kid..#idk what age range he expected kgp(r) to reach but i think it wasnt too unknown tht vocaloid had young listeners at this time#but yeah despite all the That abt kgp(r)#it came from a place of deep sincerety and earnestness and i will always revere it for that#a story abt children that understands that it will be read by children#and respecting those children and telling them 'you are heard and i understand you'#kgprambling

If there's one thing I will instill in my students about rhetorical analysis its that pathos is not inherently a lesser form of persuasion than logos, and is not inherently manipulative, because done rightly it is the elicitation of proper and fitting emotion.
#the example i gave in class today was that subaru's commercials that are like subaru= love for your dog and/or children#is BAD use of pathos#its shallow and manipulative and does not respect its audience#you should not look at a subaru and think of love for your child#that's insane#BUT an add that's like 'this kid is starving and you that's sad please give money to help them' IS properly using emotion#because you SHOULD feel sad that a child is starving#the emotion is fitting#and rhetorical appeals done PROPERLY are not about picking which appeal to use for what text or about poo pooing use of pathos#its about properly marrying the three appeals together so that they lean in on one another#all this being said in case you needed a bit of niche passion on your dash today

one in a million when i watch smthing in the horror genre and don't end up disappointed to/and/or pissed off about it so like "also yeah i liked it. ooo" is like relative to that an off the charts rave review of media of the millennium. also i did think about mh a lot along the way so would recommend its affect/effect if you like mh's horror too
#i didn't realize at first that's the director/creator tim's qrting. thought a rando went ''i love mh'' & he went ''& i love smthing else''#saw this a few weeks ago while also like writing or drawing or smthing like oh good plot's beside the point? b/c i'm splitting this focus#even checking in w/recaps was both like oh ok i missed that / didn't realize xyz could be a Thread or something but each of the like three#or four recaps i went over Also saw points differently in terms of even like; who was there or said what lmfao. or noting sm detail at all.#i went ''oh worm?'' at some early shot that may or may not have even gone mentioned by any of them. depending lol. doesn't matter#anyways we don't have time for tags media analysis except that i'll count this as: once again horror for children wins. even tho it's...#not rated? well anyways you know. probably generally not advisable for children as a direct audience lmao. however#like yes as per the premise as a child we've all experienced this [the media] anyways. perturbing summons dreams we've all had em#anyhow fr i'd even struggle to think of horror movies i'd say i mostly liked / would or did rewatch but still wasn't like. i disliked major#elements / choices to the point of being pissed off abt it. so many movies i can't be bothered to watch b/c i already know specifics like#i don't like or respect any of you people. or choices or elements or premises or executions or effects. not even interested fr like lord...#but often what has better odds are mediums that Aren't straightforwardly tv / film. like i'd compare mh to a series of several movies and#that's also imo largely a more apt categorization than saying it's an ARG or smthing but anyways like i'd recommend it to someone sure....#rare to be like yeah a movie was enjoyable. & if you already liked mh then that's a useful reference point here#which like usually i'd use mh as a categorical tag but idk i guess actually it's actively popular nowadays lmfao i really don't know#posting is already exhausting like whew but this one's for whosoever happens to follow me i guess#which is possible? nonzero ppl arrived for mh but unlikely lmfao. but also ppl see it on their own anyways coincidentally.#and you never know who observes the posts like hell yeah for an anon enjoying niche akd theatreposting who is to me ambiently out there#really odd the other day seeing an mh reblog like ''??? huh. i made that eons ago; then'' & people in the tags talking abt some repost like#on the one hand that Original Source post is two layers of deactivated blogs so a repost could be archival. but if they don't say as much#i.e. that it's even from a different source then that's not exactly it then is it. but also that even finding an original document For OP#is like. oh yeah that's me actually. but then knowing & technically saying as much doesn't / didn't actually affect me as that op lol#just kind of archival on both ends then. vs someone else in the tags saying they saw it on fb 9 yrs ago? definitely didn't post it there#my true op experience: keeping it nicheposting & just kind of saying sm shit & maybe some people are out there nodding thoughtfully#oh also in case fyi. that's tim as in actor playing [also tim] in mh. & did some writing for mh & other such behind the scenes efforts also#every time i look at the text in this post i notice a new typo of mine. get it tgoether (organic typo there. so; lol)

if i have to hear "AY YO!" from any of these kids one more time i'm going to lose it entirely
#everyone speaks in aave and calls it gen z speak!!!!!!!!!!!#whichever youtuber/meme/streamer of the month is responsible for this#i HATE YOU#they're saying 'ay yo' for every fucking thing#i play a video on class and it's kinda cool? 'AY YO!'#someone insults another kid in class (very cringe and unfunny 'burns' that don't even make sense)? 'AY YOOOO!'#someone says 'maam i saw john take her pencils'? 'AY YO IT WASN'T ME!'#i'm losing it#middle schoolers are smart and cool and funny BUT THEY'RE ALSO NOT#and you just fucking know this is something they've picked up from like being online all the time#nobody says 'ay yo' here#not to be a boomer but adult youtubers whose target audience is children deserve to get their nails ripped off#they're so fucking rude because they're learning from these american youtubers#and they don't realise americans in rl don't even fucking speak like that or behave like that#and that everything on the internet is EXAGGERATED AND NOT HOW NORMAL HUMAN BEINGS BEHAVE#normal people don't always try to one up each other in insults on a daily basis#NORMAL PEOPLE RESPECT THEMSELVES AND THEIR FRIENDS#personal#rant

A correction and an addition:
We don't know that he had a *personal* beef with the Beatles. He objected to a neighborhood band that played "Beatle music", and denied permission to the Beatles to make a LotR movie.
It is said at Oxford that he was a fan of Doctor Who (Pertwee era).
it fucks me up that tolkien only died in 1973. dude has the vibe of a victorian scholar who wrote all his manuscripts by candlelight but then you look him up and realise that he knew what color tv was. what the fuck.
#reblog#tolkien#tolkien lore#given his appreciation for children's media that respects its audience#I can totally see the doctor who thing

#honestly IDGAF about the toilet show the kids are fine watching it have you seen what goes on in Ren & Stimpy etc.#What I *do* have a problem with is the fact that fucking spongebob seems to be getting popular again with MY age group#I found that show annoying when I was its target audience. I find it annoying now. I think there are shows of that era and target audience#that are better nostalgia bait which cast a bigger net for who would reasonably find them interesting.#and while I don't judge kids for liking annoying juvenile shows#I specifically expect people my age to be *long* over something that's loud and obnoxious for the sake of being loud and obnoxious#And I'm going to be really pissed if I have to do another Dragon-Age-Tier re-curiating of the blogs I'm fucking following#over the Skibidi Toilet for fucking Millennials.#Which is probably being grossly unfair to Skibidi Toilet because (reportedly) that has an actual plot - unlike the sponge!#what I'm saying is if you are going to give children shit over children things but still reblog spongebob memes#you should know how massive a hypocrite you are.#And that should absolutely eat you up inside until you start having a shred of respect for children#Like what are you your dad? Are you your shitty dad and mom? Huh?#Morg Rants#dot post#I don't mind one follower getting a new fixation but when something irritating becomes inescapable (and ofc people never tag it)#THAT'S where the problem is. The sheer hypocrisy in this case just makes it worse.

Watching despicable me and forgot how good it was. Love watching movies I first saw as a kid now as an adult, I see the hidden jokes
#also there’s actually a lot of showing and not telling#every character gets a distinct intro#Grus thoughts always visually shown instead of him explaining out loud to himself#it respects its audience so much to figure out what it means and yes#I know the audience is children but!#man I just like that it trusts them to know what’s going on

Cyno
If the Matras had ever dared to think they’d witness a softer, more relaxed side of their general after he became a father, they couldn’t have been more mistaken. Cyno remained as ruthless and unwaveringly devoted to his principles as ever. In fact, the birth of his twins only intensified his sense of morality and justice. His desire for preservation and security extended beyond the Akademiya’s laws, now encompassing the well-being of Aryan and Isaar as well.
Yet, it wasn’t uncommon for some to test their luck, hoping to deceive General Mahamatra and cheat the system, believing they could escape unscathed. After all, with his numerous responsibilities, how likely was it that Cyno would notice every minor infraction?
And surely, with his sons in tow, his focus would be on their care rather than his surroundings, right? This assumption led a few scholars from Rtawahist's Darshan to attempt to slip into the desert to exploit forbidden knowledge. Too blissfully unaware of the sharp, reddish irises watching their every move.
“They never learn,” Cyno muttered, irritation lacing his voice. Adjusting Isaar snugly in the sling across his chest and Aryan comfortably on his back, he continued, “Looks like we have a long day ahead of us, boys. Baba will show you what happens to those who defy the law.”
The adorable laughter of his babies was his only response, their tiny giggles warming his heart and pulling a soft smile to his face. Well, he certainly couldn’t disappoint his little audience now, could he?
That day, Cyno returned home earlier than usual, a rare sense of satisfaction settling over him. His twin boys, though remarkably cheerful, were fast asleep, snuggled against their father’s warmth, thoroughly exhausted from their “adventure.” On the other hand, the scholars who had dared to challenge Cyno’s vigilance learned a harsh lesson: the General Mahamatra’s judgment was not something to trifle with.
However, something about being caught by Cyno while he carried his children was even more unsettling. His calm yet authoritative demeanor, juxtaposed with the sight of his babies babbling and cooing, created an intimidating contrast.
The lesson was clear: never underestimate a father’s sense of responsibility—or the unrelenting determination of the General Mahamatra.
Kaveh
There was something undeniably attractive about Kaveh holding your daughter in his arms as he discussed a construction project. You couldn’t help but revel in the sight. The seriousness in his eyes, his slightly disheveled hair, and the professional tone of his speech were all reasons you had fallen in love with the architect. But the addition of your baby girl sleeping soundly against his chest? That was enough to leave you — and every other woman present — utterly enchanted by him.
Perhaps this newfound charm was why his clientele had increased significantly in recent months. It also seemed to coincide with a noticeable decline in the number of scams he encountered, leading to a surge in his workload. Fatherhood hadn’t just enhanced Kaveh’s reputation but your daughter had unwittingly become his lucky charm.
While it wasn’t unusual for both you and Kaveh to bring Zahra along to your respective works occasionally, you couldn’t help but notice how frequently she accompanied him to the bustling streets of Sumeru. Not that you doubted Kaveh’s ability to provide her with the utmost care and security—when it came to your daughter, you knew he’d risk everything to protect her smile. But as a mother and wife, your protective instincts often spoke louder than reason, leaving even Kaveh’s reassuring smiles unable to fully ease your worries.
In the end, though, you could only laugh at how needless your concerns had been. Both Zahra and Kaveh were doing wonderfully.
From where you stood, Kaveh’s serene expression told you how smoothly negotiations with his client were going. Meanwhile, Zahra, still peacefully sleeping, managed to capture the attention of every passerby. People cooed at the sight of father and daughter, some approaching to marvel at the heartwarming scene. Many were drawn to Kaveh’s work in the process, intrigued by the charm of the handsome architect and his adorable companion.
And then there were the women—the ones who, rather shamelessly, lingered longer than necessary, basking in Kaveh’s bright smiles and soaking up his free advice on decorative aesthetics.
Who would have thought that bringing your cute daughter to work could turn into such an effective marketing strategy? Kaveh’s natural charisma and Zahra’s innocent charm proved to be an irresistible combination.
Still, as you watched him effortlessly balance fatherhood and professionalism, you couldn’t help but hope these potential clients were drawn to more than just his good looks. Otherwise, you’d have some disappointing news to deliver to your husband—and more than a few spinsters to put in their place.
Lyney
“Okay, kids. Remember to listen to Papa and Auntie Lynette, and no running. Especially you, Quenn. Stay by your sister’s side, please,” you reminded your twins as they got ready to leave with their father.
Quentin giggled mischievously, while Corinne nodded obediently, her sweet demeanor shining through as always. You could already imagine the antics brewing in your son’s mind, now that he was fully aware he’d be going out alone with his father. Still, you trusted Quentin; he was a well-mannered boy who would never intentionally cause trouble for his parents or upset his twin sister.
It wasn’t the children’s first time accompanying their parents to a rehearsal at the Opera Epiclese, but it was the first time you wouldn’t be there to watch over them. Personal matters required your attention, leaving you no choice but to entrust their care to their father and Lynette. Although you had complete confidence in Lyney’s ability to keep them safe, you couldn’t help but issue a few last-minute reminders. After all, the twins were at that dreaded “curiosity phase,” and accidents were always a possibility.
And truth be told, the reminders weren’t just for the little ones. Lyney, with a heart as soft, genuine and playful as his children’s, could sometimes be the most mischievous of all.
“Don’t worry, my love. I’m sure the little ones will behave perfectly,” Lyney assured you, pressing a kiss to your knuckles before scooping the twins into his arms. “Ready to see Papa's new magic tricks?”
Luckily for Lyney, it wasn’t a particularly busy day at the theater. His team was already hard at work, and Lynette had tested all the new magic props for the upcoming performance. Corinne and Quentin, though too young to fully grasp the intricacies of the preparation, were utterly captivated by the lively scene around them. Their amethyst eyes sparkled like precious jewels as they watched the stage being set and their father practicing his illusions.
Lyney couldn’t help but feel a swell of pride and warmth seeing the sweet curiosity in their faces. Sharing his passion with his children was a joy like no other. Seizing the moment, he decided to put on a small private show just for them.
With a flourish, he pulled a deck of cards from his pocket and manipulated them effortlessly, making them vanish from one hand only to reappear in the other. Corinne and Quentin stared in wide-eyed amazement, their mouths slightly agape. But when Lyney tossed the cards into the air and they transformed into dozens of shimmering crystalflies, the twins erupted into peals of delighted laughter.
Their joyous giggles echoed through the Opera Epiclese, drawing smiles from everyone present. For Lyney, that sound was the highlight of his day—a melody more enchanting than any applause he’d ever received.
Later that evening, as the family gathered back home, Lyney proudly recounted to you how well-behaved the twins had been. They had listened attentively to both him and Lynette, showing respect to the theater staff and staying out of trouble.
What he didn’t mention, however, was why they’d been so well-behaved: Lyney had spent most of the day doting on his two favorite people, barely touching his work.
But that was a secret he’d happily keep—just between him and the twins.
Wriothesley
The veteran residents of the Fortress of Meropide were well acquainted with Cameron, as you and Wriothesley often brought your little boy along during your patrols.
Many of them even looked forward to seeing the Duke's son, delighted by the chance to interact with the docile, giggling baby whose melodious laughter could soften even the hardest hearts. You and Wriothesley deeply appreciated the genuine affection the prisoners showed your son.
However, when it came to new inmates, you and Wriothesley had an unspoken rule to prioritize Cameron’s safety. Only after assessing their demeanor and trustworthiness would you allow them to meet your son. After all, the information provided by the Palais Mermonia was not always sufficient to predict what kind of people you’d be dealing with. Fortunately, neither you nor Wriothesley had ever needed to use force to make an impression on newcomers—and you both hoped it would stay that way.
That day, however, Wriothesley had no choice but to bring Cameron along to welcome the newest arrivals. Typically, you would have stayed behind to care for your son, but a sudden summons to the Court of Fontaine had forced you to leave in a hurry after a quick goodbye to your family.
“It looks like it’s just you and me today, buddy,” Wriothesley said with a grin as he finished changing Cameron’s diaper and dressing him. Once Cameron was secure in his sling, the baby cooed happily, drawing a fond smile from his father.
“Yes, that’s right, Cam. We’re late. Time to meet the new residents.”
Despite Wriothesley’s reputation as a fair and respectable leader, rumors of his formidable strength and ferocity in combat still lingered. Many Fontainian citizens, and even some of the Fortress's residents, harbored a lingering fear of him. On the surface, his name was associated with the prison’s darker reputation—though Wriothesley himself seemed indifferent to public opinion.
Thus, the newly arrived prisoners that morning had braced themselves for the worst, expecting harsh punishments or intimidating psychological tactics. What they didn’t anticipate was being greeted personally by the Duke—carrying a baby who looked exactly like him strapped to his chest.
While the fact that Wriothesley had a wife and child wasn’t exactly a secret, seeing it in person was a shock for the new inmates. The contrast between his stoic demeanor and the gentle way he interacted with Cameron was disarming.
By the end of the reception, the introductions had gone surprisingly smoothly. The new prisoners received detailed explanations about the prison’s system and administration, and Wriothesley took the time to assess their personalities and behaviors. He noticed, with some amusement, that people seemed to be more candid in the presence of a baby.
Later that day, when you returned home, the sight that greeted you was heartwarming. Wriothesley was sitting comfortably, sipping tea, while Cameron contentedly drank his formula, nestled in his father’s arms.
Judging by their serene expressions, it was clear they’d had a good day.

Father Charlie Mayhew x witch!reader
cw: 18+
PART 1
PART 2
AUTHOR'S NOTE: So what should I say? Well this is my first fanfic on Tumblr and English is not my first language. Thanks Google Translate. This one-shot came from a girl in great need of Nicholas Chavez, I kindly ask that you please forgive the mistakes. As soon as I can I will write the second part with more about Father Charlie, this is just the introduction...
I wrote it listening to Tear You Apart and Seven Wonders
Thank you for your attention!
You thought you had everything under control when you moved to this small town. Away from family or acquaintances that you had no desire to see again with a comfortable home decorated in your own special way. You were given the title of exotic by the residents of the place, they didn't seem like they would throw you into the fire like the witches of Salem but you knew that some were afraid of you even if you didn't show magic in public.
Your always black clothes didn't go unnoticed although no one ever said anything directly to you, you wore extravagant necklaces from time to time but what you kept around your neck was often a pentagram and a cross that reflected every movement you made. Walking calmly with a lit cigarette between your fingers, you observed the crowd of people entering the city's main church. You weren't able to determine which audience that place attracted because they ranged from children to old women marked by time.
For a moment you considered going into the crowd, it had been so long since you stepped foot in a Catholic place and memories of your childhood flashed through your mind. You weren't going home anytime soon, there was nothing stopping you from getting in other than your mind. You knew that sermons about sin wouldn't make you change your beliefs, you found help by practicing witchcraft (or what people called the practices you practiced) your relationship with magic was something different from anything you knew and you felt welcomed worshiping their own gods.
You remembered your first mentor, she taught you the basis of everything you know, helping you deal with your complicated feelings during this process. Respect although resentment about the religions that condemned your existence was always present in you. Taking a deep breath while looking around, you crossed the street towards the church without thinking. You stubbed out your cigarette on the sidewalk then took a deep breath until you walked up the stairs.
The church was big, the first thing you thought of was the large tithe they earned on the faithful. You looked for a pew, sitting down at the end then a few minutes later the mass started, it was everything the way you remembered it. Except for one thing.
The priest was too handsome to be a priest, you thought, the man must have been a few years older than you. His hair was perfectly combed back to highlight his chiseled face, his jaw clenched as he waited to speak. You quickly realized that the young women didn't come just because of the Lord's word. The mass continued while the pentagram on your chest weighed as if saying you were in the wrong place, the priest's firm voice walked through the church with its hoarse timbre. You would definitely be lying if you said you weren't attracted to the man.
“What’s his name?” You shyly asked a nun sitting in the front seat. “Fa-father Charlie Mayhew.” The woman responded with a small smile before turning her attention to the lectern. You thanked him politely as you stared at the man, you knew his name now. Father Charlie Mayhew You recited in your mind as the mass continued.
You couldn't take your eyes off that pretty face, in disbelief that someone so young had chosen this vocation. You didn't hear anything until he spoke then it stopped again like a cycle, even with the clothes on you could tell that his body was defined as the outline of his muscles could still be seen. Then he looked at you, you thought about avoiding it but it was too late. Caught like a naughty child doing something he shouldn't, you kept looking until he looked away. You smiled internally.
The hours passed towards the end of the celebration, many people headed towards the exit but not you. Never going with the flow of things you began to explore the church, observing the colorful stained glass windows and the pattern of lit candles. In your peripheral vision you saw Father Charlie talking to a couple, his voice was relaxed although he still maintained his posture.
You stopped at another stained glass window, your eyes attentive to the details. “You’re new here, aren’t you?” Father Charlie asked standing next to you, you could smell him and it almost made you fall over. “The church is not used to a new face.” He said, his clear voice leaving you quiet for a moment before he began “I recently moved to the city, Father. In fact, this is the first church I’ve been to in a long time.” His voice doesn't show shame like other people do when they talk to Charlie.
Sometimes intimidated by the man's posture or beauty.“I'm glad to hear that.” you could see the sincerity in his words although he tried to hide something. “Know that the church is open to welcome you, dear.” Charlie approached, turning his face to him: “God has ways of rescuing his lost children to salvation. No matter what circumstance.”
His gaze dropped to your chest where the pentagram rested somewhat hidden by your clothes. His heavy hand touched the necklace with a little force. “The confessional is open on Wednesdays. If you are interested, I will be waiting for you.” He left without looking back, leaving you uneasy as you watched him.
