FAVORITE ANON IS BACK
I didn't expect to be back so soon and to have to jump to the other side of the supporting character spectrum butttt here we are...
As we all know by now, A has made her return to the Insta grid and it was a doozy. 48 days after Luke posted his Spain photo dump, A pops out with the "Last bit of summer" which of course includes a picture of her "sunbathing and reading" on what appears to be the same balcony as Luke's from Spain. The 6 photo carousel also includes 2 photos from Cyprus. To many on the internet, this was another "launch" just like the recent London pap pictures.
This is the point where I would like to remind everyone to TAKE A MOMENT AND BREATHE BEFORE YOU REACT.
Now that you've done that, please remember the individual we are talking about. It is important to study patterns and this girl be patterning. Whenever the spotlight turns up on Nic and Luke, she always seems to jump in and tear things down and she is living up to her reputation. Let's add to the fact that Nic is getting torn down from this recent pap and press article incident so why not throw some gasoline on the flames. This is her time to SHINE.
Now I have a couple thoughts on the Spain of it all:
I think it's highly possible this trip happened in mid-late July (when the resort posted the Bridgerton themed post) and right before the birthday trip to Sorrento. It is highly likely that it was also a group trip and I'm not even saying these two were romantic on this trip (similar to my thoughts on Italy). She honestly could've just gotten into his room to take a couple pictures.
Her and her friends on a separate trip and maneuvered their way into the same (or similar) room and recreated the scene. It sounds wild and crazy and wayyyy out of the realm of reality but to be honest, I wouldn't put it past this individual.
My big question is where were any pictures that alluded to Luke being on the trip? The only picture is the balcony picture with her lying on the lounger and it doesn't even include a lot of possible items that would match the photo to being an identical match (the table settings or his underwear on the chair). If you went on a trip with your boyfriend - WHERE IS THE BOYFRIEND? Many are saying she got permission from Luke to post now but if he gave her permission and they are still together then why isn't he in the pictures?
Also, I find it convenient that she has C & S coming out of the woodwork to like and hype her up in the comments almost immediately (her and S have been almost radio silent to each other since Italy). As someone pointed out to me, the comments look like something planned in a group chat.
And to anyone who wants to say it - no I do not believe Luke is mad about Nic and Jake and is lashing out by telling A to post. If you even believe that about him, why are you in this fandom?
What do I believe? I believe we are seeing one of the final acts of a very desperate woman. She has been holding on to these pictures as her "smoking gun" to use one day when the timing is right. Nicola mentioned "Luke" and "marriage" in a Time article and she posted a picture with Luke publicly on her instagram. Once the pap photo controversy went down, A grabbed her chance and ran with it. (The irony of it all is that I think Nic's team may have let the article situation yesterday play out the way it did because they were expecting a grenade from A and she took the bait.)
In the end I will tell you the same thing about Luke that I told you about Nicola - ONLY LISTEN TO THE STORY LUKE IS TELLING YOU. The story Luke told you in his Spain post was that he was a man who was there alone and not on a romantic getaway. Don't listen to the story that psychotic side characters are trying to paint. The reason she's still around and creating this drama is because you all encouraged her all summer. Listen to Nic and listen to Luke and the rest is just noise you need to tune out.
My favorite anon is back so soon.
But I think we needed you, so much appreciated ☺️

The real instigators of this violence don’t fit the stereotypes people are pushing, and claiming this rage was arbitrarily birthed is insane. It’s been fuelled by journalists, ‘politicians,’ unemployed men turned social media rage-baiters and ‘good’ people who have done nothing.
Laurence Fox has pissed off out of the country after tweeting about starting a war. Tommy Robinson was catching a tan at a resort in Cyprus whilst his minions were burning down libraries and attacking mosques. The Daily Mail is now writing classist articles after YEARS of rage-baiting working-class people, similar to how they used to write about the impending ‘invasion,’ the language their journalists used whilst spouting their support for Hitler.
So many of these chodes claim to be great inspectors of history yet FAIL to see the patterns that liken this to the rise of fascism that led to Nazi Germany.
Tommy Robinson, Laurence Fox, Katie Hopkins, Nigel Farage, and their ilk should be in fucking prison. Rupert Murdoch should be in a fucking courtroom, being sued until his final breath. And we should make critical thinking and fascist ideology mandatory teaching the moment kids start secondary school.
If you want to talk about 'two tier policing'... why isn't Murdoch and Musk being held accountable? Twitter is now a glorified 4Chan. Murdoch's media has laid the foundations for fascism and are now acting surprised to see the effects of that.
Applauding the arrests of protestors is understandable because a fascist being arrested and crying in court will always be delicious. However, without holding those responsible for this mess accountable, we are doomed.
Pls can someone let the chodes know that there's a difference between protecting freedom of speech and inciting violence because it's doing my fucking head in xoxo

September is International Suicide Prevention Month.
Unfortunately, given current trends on a lot of social media, the word "suicide" has become a Bad Word and people have resorted to using ridiculous newspeak like "sewer slide" and "self-unaliving" to appease the algorithms and the censors.
But this is Tumblr. We can say words like "suicide" here. And I'm going to say it
Suicide Hotline (US): 988

Best places to live in Cyprus
Nicosia
Limassol District
Limassol villages
Larnaca

Ayia Napa and Protaras
Paralimni
Nicosia
Divided in two by the Green Line, Nicosia is a vibrant and quite sophisticated city that offers a perfect blend of urban life and relaxation.
Nicosia lies inland; therefore, it can get hotter than the seaside in summer. However, the bliss of it is that as a consequence tourists don’t think much of the place, instead preferring the seaside resorts and towns. This not only keeps the place from becoming overcrowded but helps to preserve a true Cypriot feel and character of the place.
Nicosia is the business and financial centre of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as the administrative heart. The city offers great entertainment, vibrant nightlife, excellent shopping and a choice of leisure activities.
Although the main language is Greek, you will find that around 90 percent of the population speak some English, and fluency is common amongst the younger generations.
Cyprus might be the third biggest Mediterranean island, but it’s not really huge. And when you live in Nicosia, everything is no more than an hour away by car, be it wonderful beaches, gorgeous mountains, hiking trails or historic sights.
As in any city, there are enough districts and types of property to choose from in Nicosia. The choice depends on whether you want to live in an apartment or a modern villa, in the quiet outskirts or in a luxurious part of the city near all the major embassies where the properties are superb, both in style and price.
Living in the south-east, for example, gives you easy access to Athalassa National Forest Park, which is 840 hectares of greenery. Its network of trails – covering 20 kilometres – makes it a popular place for cycling, walking, dog walking and picnics.
As to what you can consider drawbacks, the summers are very hot in Nicosia, hotter than in the seaside locations. There’s also the issue of a very unreliable public transportation system; as a result almost everyone over 21 owns a car.
In short, Nicosia is one of the best places to live in the Republic of Cyprus: diverse cuisines, cultures, rich history, great nightlife, almost the best weather possible, great nature and sightseeings and all the amenities you need for normal day-to-day living. What you won’t find in Nicosia is the seaside.
Limassol District
Limassol, a city on the southern coast of Cyprus, has a very modern, cosmopolitan feel to it. It is a loved destination by expats from all over the world.
The Neapolis area of Limassol is considered the centre of the town, yet is also residential and has all the necessary amenities close to hand. It is close to Anexartisias – the main shopping district of Limassol, and within walking distance of the beach too.
Right in the centre of the city, near the Castle and Limassol Marina, there is a beautiful promenade called Molos, which offers great walks along the beachfront. If you like a seaside stroll, Molos will be your favourite place.
Molos is flanked by busy streets packed with restaurants, cafes, English style pubs, vibrant nightclubs, and a wide range of shops selling almost everything, including souvenirs and traditional sweets and delicacies.
Not a big fan of city beaches and prefer something more intimate? There are beautiful beaches 15 minutes drive away from the city, such as Kourion Beach.
This particular beach is located under the ancient city of Kourion where you can visit the ancient site and also attend evening performances at the ancient theatre.
Limassol is also the city with the highest mountain peak on the island, Troodos (Olympus). During the winter between January and April, you can go skiing. The Cyprus Ski Club, based on Mount Olympus, has four ski lifts and eight alpine ski runs of various levels.
The city is perfect for supporting an active healthy lifestyle. It offers limitless possibilities for all kinds of sports and activities including golf, go-karting, skiing, cycling and horse riding. There are beautiful walking trails and an abundance of nature trails. Bicycles are available on rent all over the place and are an ideal way of exploring the city and its interior.
Limassol villages
Just 12 minutes drive from Limassol there is the lovely village of Erimi. It takes you just far enough from the hustle and bustle of Limassol to give you a nice relaxing atmosphere but is still close enough to the city for you to still use its facilities.
The same feeling of tranquillity can be found in the village of Kolossi on the outskirts of the city of Limassol. The village is close to the imposing Kolossi Castle, which dates back to the 13th century. The vineyards of Kolossi are famous for the sweet dessert wine of Commandaria, which is one of the oldest wines in the world.
Some 8 miles from Limassol on the Limassol-Troodos road is the pretty village of Alassa. The village is built next to the Kouris Dam. A few minutes drive away is Episcopi – a village lying partly in the Limassol district of Cyprus and partly in the British Overseas Territory of Akrotiri and Dhekelia.
There is a good supermarket, doctor, police station etc. It has quite a few expats but is not very touristy.
Larnaca
Larnaca is compact, easily accessible and offers easy access to other regions on the island.
Larnaca is where Cyprus adventures start for most new arrivals, as it is where the most popular Cyprus airport is located.
Phinikoudes is a very pretty town and is particularly pleasant for a stroll in the evening. There is a long beach alongside the Phinikoudes promenade, the waters there are always calm and quite shallow, so you have to wade for quite a distance before it is swimmable.
The Makenzie stretch is more remote, easily accessible by car and has many fish restaurants lining the strip. It’s full of bars and cafés, where locals and expat freelancers come together to co-work. However, it’s very close to the airport, and although spending a day out there is fine, living there constantly means putting up with noise and pollution.
The prevalent communities in Larnaca are Greek, British, Russians and Germans and they mostly use English as means of international communication. However, move away from the expat communities towards outlying villages, and a bit of Greek will come really handy if you want to integrate and build local friendships.
The town offers all the amenities and facilities necessary for a comfortable life, but as with any tourist place, it gets very quiet in winter and really crowded in summer.
In general, Larnaca is more relaxed, easy-going and comfortable, and a bit cheaper compared to Limassol or Nicosia. You get the beach and the places for cycling, and it is only a 30 minutes drive from both Limassol and Nicosia. The intercity bus will take you to the capital if you don’t like driving, however public transport is not very reliable in Cyprus, so you might want to consider a car.
There are a few lovely villages on the outskirts of Larnaca. Oroklini is just outside the town and very popular with Brits. The village stretches from Larnaca Bay up to Oroklini hill and has a nice sandy beach.
It takes 10 minutes to get from Oroklini to central Larnaca. The Larnaca-Ayia Napa motorway runs through the outskirts of Oroklini and leads onto the Larnaca-Nicosia motorway.
Paphos
Paphos is a lovely coastal city in the southwest of Cyprus and, as legends say, the birthplace of Aphrodite.
The town has good infrastructure and amenities – from shopping malls and shops to modern hospitals and decent road connections. Paphos International Airport is just 15 minutes drive from the town centre and a modern highway links the Paphos district to the whole of Cyprus.
The great thing about Paphos District is that you’ve got the sea and great beaches with hills, forests and mountains inland. The Akamas is a delight if you like the unspoilt countryside.
Paphos city is a popular tourist resort. It is also famous for its charming fishing harbour. The main residential district in Paphos is Ktima.
Kato Paphos, built by the sea around the medieval port, is where most of the luxury hotels and the entertainment infrastructure of the city is located.
There’s a lot going on in Paphos itself to sustain life there. It’s also only 45 minutes along the motorway to Limassol.
Peyia and Tala
Paphos district has quite a few lovely towns and villages dotted around. Lots of Brits live there, especially in places like Peyia and Tala. That means no language problems. If you venture further into the hills, a few words of Greek will be very helpful to get by.
Peyia and Tala are very popular for full time living among expats. There are plenty of restaurants and tavernas in both places, and they are close to Coral Bay.
Peyia is a bit overbuilt. The nice areas of Peyia can mostly be found on the outskirts. It’s also quite a drive to Paphos. Tala is closer to Paphos but has fewer facilities.
If you want to be fairly close to town and live somewhere within walking distance to a decent supermarket, pharmacy, doctor, butcher etc., Chloraka is possibly a good place to consider as it is just 3 km north of Paphos.
Ayia Napa and Protaras
In the eastern part of Cyprus, just south of Famagusta, lies the lively and vibrant town of Ayia Napa. It is a favourite international seaside resort with all the paraphernalia and amenities that come with that. It is crowded, dynamic, loud, full of entertainment and typical tourist activities such as water-skiing, windsurfing, canoeing, scuba diving and speed boating.
Ayia Napa has 14 beaches, and all of them have been awarded the Blue Flag status.
Nissi, a beach on Nissi Avenue, gets really crowded in summer; it has a fantastic beach bar, which plays music throughout the day and offers events such as foam parties and games if that’s what you’re looking for!
If you want to be close enough to Ayia Napa to enjoy the life it offers, but still be far away enough to be able to have relaxing moments, you might want to look at Protaras.
About 5 miles away from Ayia Napa, Protaras, although being rapidly developed, still manages to remain low-key, and is preferred by locals and expats for its more family-friendly feel. It is still touristy and gets very busy in summer, while the winters are usually quiet and the place looks a bit deserted.
Paralimni
If the seasonal hustle and bustle of both Ayia Napa and Protaras are too much for you, but you still want to be close enough to both places, then probably the best solution will be to look at Paralimni.
Paralimni is close enough to both Ayia Napa and Protaras but is not attractive to tourists. It is a nice residential town with modern houses being built on the outskirts. There is a shopping centre, a number of cafes and bars and supermarkets there – all the amenities you need to live comfortably without paying over the top, as one commonly does in tourist towns.

Charlie Kirk tells British anti-immigrant extremist Tommy Robinson that he "loves his work" and gives him an uncritical platform to spread white nationalist disinformation
I mentioned to you guys that I might be doing a blog post on the recent anti-immigrant riots in the UK. Well, here we are. I didn't really want to do another Charlie Kirk post so soon after the last one but since islamophobia and right-wing extremism seem to be the theme of the week on the blog, given my most recent post on alt-right provocateur Laura Loomer, I figured that this interview that Charlie Kirk did on his August 8th show was something that I just couldn't ignore.
Charlie Kirk decided that in the wake of violent anti-immigrant riots in Britain it would be a great idea to provide an uncritical platform to one of the far-right extremists that led to the whole thing starting in the first place, Tommy Robinson. This booking is an absolutely shameful display on the part of Charlie Kirk and deserves to be held up for what it is: providing an extremist a platform to stoke a major scale crisis. I'll explain in greater detail as we go along but for now lets start the interview.
01:37:02, Charlie Kirk: "Joining us now is Tommy Robinson who can talk all about what's happening in the UK. Tommy, welcome to the program. Tommy, I've been following you for years, for whatever reason the oligarchs of western society tell me I'm supposed to hate you but I've followed you for years, I think you do great work, introduce yourself to our American audience."
I'm not an "oligarch" but I can tell you all about how much of a piece of shit Tommy Robinson is and how Charlie Kirk endorsing him is a damning indictment of everything that Kirk stands for.
Tommy Robinson, born Steven Yaxley-Lennon, is an anti-immigrant propagandist and pathological liar with a history of violence who's currently hiding out in Athens after he violated a court order that barred him from repeating false allegations against a teenage refugee named Jamal Hijazi. Robinson falsely claimed that Hijazi was assaulting girls at his school, he wasn't and this was a clear cut example of a teenager getting put on blast by a bigot to further a narrative. Hijazi sued Robinson for libel after he was assaulted outside of his school and the court barred Robinson from repeating the false allegations.
That didn't stop Robinson from screening his "documentary" Silenced in Trafalgar Square which repeated the lie about Mr Hijazi. The court ruled Tommy's behavior as an injunction because, well, it was. Before his hearing, Robinson fled to a five star resort in Cyprus like the lionhearted manly man that he is. However, Tommy did leave the resort after the press found his location leading to him recording a video in Athens where he whinged that journalists ruined his little holiday by revealing his location.
This guy has incited violence against innocent people and is currently inciting riots in the UK but heaven forbid that we infringe on his little vacation/attempt to flee from the consequences of his actions. Tommy's the real victim here, he claims. Just ignore the lives of the people in vulnerable communities that are being ruined by the violence that he incites against them.
Robinson also had a huge hand in the current anti-immigrant riots that we're currently seeing in Britain due to him spreading lies about the identity of the person who carried out the recent tragic stabbing in Southport. Initially the police concealed the identity of the stabber since he was seventeen years old, legally a minor in the United Kingdom, however that didn't stop Tommy from falsely claiming that the stabber was an "undocumented immigrant". This is false, the stabbers identity was later revealed to be Axel Rudakubana, who was born to Rwandan parents in Whales. Disinformation like this eventually led to violent anti-immigrant riots across the UK and that's where we are right now.
Tommy Robinson is a truly vile individual and if we got into all of the monstrous things that he's done we'd be here all day. Charlie endorsing him like this gives up the game about his own extreme belief system and he should be ashamed that he's giving Robinson a platform to spread this crap.
01:37:21, Tommy Robinson: "The names Tommy Robinson, I'm a journalist and author from the UK. I tell the stories that the government don't want you to see."
Those stories are false, that's why the "mainstream media" doesn't cover them. Because they actually fact-check what they're saying instead of just going "Muslim bad" and inciting violence against vulnerable communities.
Robinsons lies are well documented online for everyone to see and for him to get up here and claim that he's some kind of journalist is an insult to actual journalists. In case you can't tell, I really do not like this Tommy Robinson guy.
01:37:26, Tommy Robinson: "The problems with mass immigration, with open boarders, I'm from a town thirty miles north of London. When I was born there was one mosque, there's now forty five. I've seen the attack on freedom, I've seen the cultural change, right now in Great Britain we are fighting for our survival."
As you can see here, Tommy's rhetoric is steeped in white nationalist fear-mongering and paranoia against the Islamic community. His entire schtick is basically saying "Us whites are going to take back Britain" without saying that explicitly.
Also, there aren't forty-five mosques in Luton (where Tommy was born). Not even close. Luton has 25 mosques and 47 churches. In short, it's basically the opposite of what Tommy's saying but that doesn't really matter to Charlie and Tommy. For them, even one mosque is a sign of their culture being "attacked".
01:37:54, Tommy Robinson: "I face two years in prison for creating a film."
That contained a claim that you knew was defamatory but you repeated anyway yes. It’s pretty clear that Tommy aired that documentary because he knew that he would be violating his contempt order and now he gets to pretend that he’s the persecuted journalist on shows like Charlie Kirk and Alex Stein while he parades around luxury resorts in the Mediterranean.
Speaking of defamatory claims, here's Tommy trotting out a particularly disgusting one.
01:38:05, Tommy Robinson: "An entire generation of British daughters were raped at the hands of Muslim gangs. It was something the UK calls grooming, they give it a pretty name. I think in India they call it love jihad. In Holland they call it loverboys. What that is is groups of predominantly Pakistani Muslim men torturing, raping, and murdering young English girls."
The "grooming gangs" myth is something that's been pushed by British white nationalists to fearmonger about Islamic immigrants for ages. The problem of course is that it's a lie.
According to data from the Home Office of the UK, group based child sexual exploitation based on the limited data available is predominantly carried out by white offenders. Furthermore, according to the Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse 89% of child sex offenders in the UK are white.
This exploitation of the very real problem of child sexual abuse to demonize minorities is a very common move in the white nationalist playbook and it's one of the most disgusting ones out there. Things like this not only dilute the response to real cases of sexual abuse by reducing it to a racial issue but also incite violence against innocent minorities by priming people to believe that they are inherently predisposed to sexually abusing minors.
01:38:27, Tommy Robinson: "Ninety percent of the convictions for assault crime in the UK are by Muslim men. 30 percent of the men convicted are named Muhammad."
The only source for those numbers that I could find was Tommy Robinson who pushes them a lot. In reality, Muslim men in the UK don't commit a lot of crime seeing as how the arrest rates for predominantly Muslim groups such as Arabs (who have an arrest rate of 4.8%) is actually quite low. The rate for hate crimes against Muslim's in the UK however is extremely high with 3,400 hate crimes against Muslim's being reported in 2022 and 2024, the highest of any religious group in the country with Jewish people coming in at second with 1,510 reported hate crimes. But yeah, Tommy's the one fighting for his life while cruising around five star resorts in Cyprus.
Tommy sucks as you probably figured out but lest we forget that Charlie Kirk also really really sucks.
01:40:53, Charlie Kirk: "Everything you said I have no disagreement, in fact I have total agreement with and the only difference between what I do and what you do is in my country my government can't put me in jail for making a movie."
Oh piss off Charlie.
As I've stated before and I will keep stating every time it gets brought up, Tommy wasn't charged with "making a movie", he was charged with defaming a teenager which led to the kid getting violently assaulted. Tommy knew exactly what he was doing when he aired that documentary in Trafalgar Square and now the right-wing media is embracing his narrative as gospel.
Nobody forced Tommy Robinson to make a film that repeated a defamatory claim about a teenager that he knew was a lie and yet he did and is now facing the consequences. I have zero sympathy for him whatsoever.
01:41:40, Tommy Robinson: "Charlie, the head of prosecution just came out today and they said they will prosecute and convict people who share footage of the riots if the footage they share may incite racial hatred."
Lying again. The prosecutor wasn't talking about "sharing footage of the riots", he was talking about messages and posts that incite racial violence. Obviously you can post videos from the riots as dozens of people have but when you start inciting dangerous racial violence that's when you might get charged.
In fact, Tommy's whole schtick is proof that this narrative is a lie if you're paying attention. Tommy only got charged when he intentionally defamed a teenager, his incitation otherwise has gone relatively unchecked. We're literally looking at him being interviewed on one of the largest right-wing media outlets in the country for heavens sake.
Charlie proceeds to build on Tommy's narratives and push his own form of white nationalism because these guys suck so hard.
01:42:42, Charlie Kirk: "So, I wanna get to this because I think it's very important. You talk about the mass Muhammad invasion of the United Kingdom and the lack of rebellion against that or response against that. Help me understand why that happened cause it's so obviously self-destructive, it's self-evidently suicidal."
"The mass Muhammed invasion". When I said in my last post that there's very little separating alt-right figures like Laura Loomer and more mainstream figures like Charlie Kirk in terms of rhetoric these days I wasn't joking. This is a prime example of that. That quote wouldn't be out of place on Laura Loomer, Stew Peters, or Alex Jones and it's pretty disturbing to watch.
01:43:20, Tommy Robinson: "It effects us, the working class and the UK is a very classist country."
Nothing helps solve classism quite like going on a conservative radio show. Tommy's so working class that he can afford to hobnob around the Mediterranean in luxury resorts and live in a million pound home, give me a break.
01:43:32, Tommy Robinson: "It's our towns and our communities that were effected where all these migrants were brought in. And they were brought in originally by the labor party which is democrat party to rub the rights nose in and basically to replace the working with lower voters because the working class decided to vote conservative."
And there it is, the great replacement theory. By the way, in the UK the population is 82% white so this "replacement" is truly something that only exists inside Tommy's bigoted little imagination.
So, these two tools go to radio break and then complain about Muslim "no go zones" which have been debunked so many times that I'm shocked that they can mention them with a straight face. Whatever, it's just more dumb crap that's derivative of the same rhetoric that they've been pushing throughout the interview.
Conclusion:
I cannot stress enough how dangerous and disgusting this is. Considering that Tommy's rhetoric literally started riots in the UK, you'd think that Charlie and the right-wing media ecosystem would be just a *smidge* more careful about booking him so that he can continue to pour fuel on the fire and incite further violence.
These riots in the UK have exposed how key anti-immigrant bigotry and the white nationalist great replacement theory are to the right-wing media machine in the United States. Instead of pausing and thinking "Hey wait a minute, maybe our rhetoric may be causing real world violence and we should cut it out before somebody gets hurt" the right-wing media has broadly responded by doubling down like they always do. It is the responsibility of progressives everywhere to push back against this dangerous rhetoric in whatever way we can before another teenager gets assaulted or the hate crime number increases to 4,000 because the Tommy Robinson's and Charlie Kirk's of the world will not stop and people in the real world are getting hurt in the process.
Cheers and I'll see you in the next one.

How Facebook's Real Names policy helps Cambodia's thin-skinned dictator terrorize dissenters
A common refrain from Facebook apologists and anti-anonymity activists is that its “Real Names Policy” promoted “civility” by making users “accountable” for their words. In this conception, snuffing out anonymous speech is key to protecting “the vulnerable” from trolls and other bad actors.
If you’d like an essay-formatted version of this thread to read or share, here’s a link to it on pluralistic.net, my surveillance-free, ad-free, tracker-free blog:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/01/24/nationalize-moderna/#hun-sen
But while some trolls hide behind anonymity, others are only too happy to sign their vitriol. Donald Trump didn’t need an anonymous account. Tucker Carlson is right there in the chyron. Nick Fuentes isn’t hiding behind a pseudonym — he’s proud to be associated with Holocaust denial.
Despite the moral panic about “cancel culture,” the powerful can say outrageous and disgusting things without any meaningful consequence. But when it comes to speaking truth to power, anonymity protects the vulnerable from retaliation.
Nowhere will you find a better case-study of this phenomenon than in Cambodia, a basket-case, one-party dictatorship that has been ruled over by the corrupt, authoritarian dictator Hun Sen, a former general, since 1985.
Hun Sen’s corruption and authoritarianism chafed at the Cambodian people, but his repressive statecraft allowed him to keep a tight grip on the reins of power. But all that nearly came to a halt in 2013, when an opposition movement, organized on Facebook, came within a whisker of defeating him during what should have been a sham election.
Other dictators would have used that moment to block Facebook, but not Hun Sen. After squeaking out a narrow victory, he decided to take control of Facebook in Cambodia and co-opt it as a tool of oppression. To do this, Hun Sen would weaponize the Real Names policy.
Because he was dictator, Hun Sen already knew the real names of every person in Cambodia, which meant that he could tell when a Cambodian poster used a pseudonym. Armed with this knowledge, Hun Sen forced Facebook to order Cambodians to post under their real names (which made them liable to arrest and torture) or fall silent.
https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/meghara/facebook-cambodia-democracy#.km2QBoKME
Hun Sen then spent public funds to hire a bleating army of astroturf supporters from Filipino clickfarms who would “like” his posts and shout down Cambodians — especially exiled Cambodians speaking from abroad — who dared to criticize him:
https://qz.com/1203637/facebook-likes-are-a-powerful-tool-for-authoritarian-rulers-lawsuit-says
All of this created cover for the “Khmer Riche”: politically connected insiders and Hun Sen’s relatives, who looted the country, hired Pricewaterhousecooper to help them offshore their money through Cypriot banks, and procured glden passports from Cyprus to let them trip through the EU on luxury spending-sprees:
https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/cambodia-hunsen-wealth/
Earlier this month, Hun Sen took an “official visit” to the Maldives, which was commemorated by an official Facebook post that included a gallery of Hun Sen relaxing in a seaside luxury resort:
https://www.facebook.com/hunsencambodia/posts/pfbid02KYoqDAJbeMGyRP9xMYpntYEdKsczGQijRGYJiDDiPSV4u5DDxmwXuCjpRrse8AEtl
As Mech Dara1 wrote for Vod, the post racked up thousands of “fawning comments,” along with a single, brave remark from “Ver To” (a pseudonymous account): “Yes, our beaches are the most beautiful, but our leaders are the dirtiest in the world, aren’t they?”
https://vodenglish.news/hun-sen-orders-police-to-find-facebook-beach-insulter/
Within hours, Hun Sen had vowed to use Facebook to hunt down and punish the person behind “Ver To,” writing “This is a wicked man’s words. Please, police, find it immediately. Where is it?”
In an expanded version of Daral’s article on Global Voices, we see Hun Sen’s Interior Ministry swing into action to punish this mild act of dissent, with ministry spokesman Khieu Sopheak saying:
> This is not freedom of expression — this is insulting the leader of the country. … Even for me, we cannot accept this.
> People who live abroad can say anything, but in Cambodia they cannot.
> Even though the prison is crowded, there is enough space to hold these people.
Hun Sen knows that Facebook will help him hunt down this dissenter and jail them in one of his “crowded prisoners,” because Facebook’s Real Names policy dictates that this will happen.
The Real Names policy might as well be called “The Zuckerberg Doctrine.” It originates with Mark Zuckerberg’s oft-stated belief that people who present a different facet of their personality to different people are “two-faced.” This is an abysmal, idiotic belief, one that requires that we related to our bosses the same way we relate to our lovers, and also to our grandparents. But on the plus side, outlawing anonymity and pseudonymity makes it a lot easier to assemble nonconsensual surveillance dossiers on our activities, social graph and beliefs, and then sell access to those dossiers to advertisers:
https://memex.craphound.com/2018/01/22/social-scientists-have-warned-zuck-all-along-that-the-facebook-theory-of-interaction-would-make-people-angry-and-miserable/
Lots of companies have tried for their own Real Names policy. Famously, it was a feature of Google Plus, Alphabet’s failed Facebook competitor. More recently, Twitter’s new owner has made moves to link Twitter accounts to identities by hiding posts that aren’t from “Twitter Blue” accounts, and then insisting that these accounts must be verified with a phone number.
The powerful can abuse the powerless and get away with it, in large part because the powerless can’t speak back without risking retaliation. Sexual abuse was a feature of many industries and large companies for decades, but it too anonymity to create the #MeToo movement. There, anonymity is a force for accountability — not a way to avoid it.

VENERABLE HILLARION THE GREAT OF PALESTINE (371).
Saint Hilarion the Great was born to pagan parents in the year 291 in the Palestinian village of Thabatha near Gaza. As a young man, he was sent to Alexandria for his education. There he became acquainted with Christianity and was baptized. After hearing an account of the angelic life of Saint Anthony the Great (January 17), Hilarion went to meet him, desiring to study with him and learn what is pleasing to God. Hilarion soon returned to his native land to find that his parents had died. After distributing his family’s inheritance to the poor, Saint Hilarion went forth into the desert surrounding the city of Maium.
In the desert the Saint endured violent struggles with impure thoughts, vexations of the mind, and the burning passions of the flesh, but he defeated them through heavy labor, fasting and fervent prayer. The devil sought to frighten him with phantoms and apparitions. While he was praying Saint Hilarion would sometimes hear children crying, women wailing, and the roaring of lions and other wild beasts. He understood that the demons were causing these terrors in order to drive him out of the wilderness. He overcame his fear by resorting to fervent prayer. Once, some thieves fell upon Saint Hilarion, and he persuaded them to forsake their lawless life by the power of his words.
Soon all of Palestine heard about Saint Hilarion and of the miracles he worked. The Lord granted the holy ascetic the power to cast out unclean spirits. With this gift of grace he loosed the bonds of many of those who were afflicted. The sick came for healing, and the Saint cured them without asking for any payment, saying that the grace of God is freely received, and must be freely given (Matthew 10:8).
Such was the grace that he received from God that he could tell by the smell of someone’s body or clothing which passion was afflicting his soul. They came to Saint Hilarion desiring to save their souls under his guidance. With his blessing, monasteries began to spring up throughout Palestine. Going from one monastery to another, he instituted a strict ascetic manner of life.
About seven years before his death (+ 371-372) Saint Hilarion moved back to Cyprus, where the ascetic lived in a solitary place until the Lord summoned him to Himself.
Saint Hilarion is sometimes depicted holding a scroll which reads: "The tools of a monk are steadfastness, humility, and love according to God." In iconography, is depicted as an old man with a brown, rush-like beard divided into three points.

SAINT CONDEDUS HERMIT OF FONTENELLE (France685)
CONDEDUS (685)
He was an English hermit at the Abbey of St. Valery (Walric) on the Somme (abbaye Saint-Valery-sur-Somme) at present-day Saint-Valery-sur-Somme (northern France) who joined the community of the Abbey of St. Wandrille (abbaye Saint-Wandrille) in Fontenelle, Normandy (north-western France). In later years, St. Condedus lived as a hermit again, this time on an island in the river Seine near present-day Caudebec-en-Caux, not far from Fontenelle Abbey. St. Condedus reposed circa 685.

2 Corinthians 11:31-12:9
31 The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying. 32 In Damascus the governor, under Aretas the king, was guarding the city of the Damascenes with a garrison, desiring to arrest me; 33 but I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall, and escaped from his hands.
1 It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord: 2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago-whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows-such a one was caught up to the third heaven. 3 And I know such a man-whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows- 4 how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. 5 Of such a one I will boast; yet of myself I will not boast, except in my infirmities. 6 For though I might desire to boast, I will not be a fool; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, lest anyone should think of me above what he sees me to be or hears from me. 7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.
Luke 16:19-31
19 There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. 20 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, 21 desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.' 25 But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 26 'And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.' 27 Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house, 28 'for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.' 29 Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.' 30 And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' 31 But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.'

Israelis 'Flooding' Into Cyprus to 'Buy Anything In Sight'
Dimitri Lascaris travels to Cyprus to investigate reports in the Israeli and Cypriot media that Israelis have been 'flooding' into Cyprus and 'buying anything in sight'.
In the course of his investigation, Lascaris visited resorts and other business that quietly cater to an affluent Israeli clientele.
Lascaris also examined the little-discussed fact that the earliest Zionists viewed Cyprus as a stepping stone to the colonization of Palestine.
