We Have Kittens! 😻 Meet Miko and Milo! 🍁 Happy Thanksgiving! Miko and Milo were found all alone by my dad’s workshop in my parent’s backyard in early October. So I went to their house and caught them. They were about 5-6 weeks old at that time. My daughter, Angel & I have been taking care of them and we are keeping them. They were a little sickly when we first caught them, icky eyes, upper respiratory infection, worms, a little underweight too. They were on eye meds, antibiotics, gas drops, dewormer and nutracal for a little while and are much healthier now. They are so adorable and loving! They purr so loud and play so hard! We will be introducing them to the other cats soon. They all know there are kittens in Angel’s room. We have let them see each other through the open door. I will be posting a lot more pictures and some videos all over soon! Miko (pronounced Mee koh) My daughter Angel named them & they are her babies and I am their Nina! 🥰

GOOD MORNING! Meet Chief Lion (Photo by Abbey)

When Chief was rescued, he was very sick. We believe that if his rescue had been delayed, he would not have survived. This handsome lion was dehydrated, malnourished, and severely infested with worms. Fortunately, we were able to provide Chief with fluids during his rescue and in the following days.

Upon arrival, Chief had many health issues, but thanks to the dedicated efforts of our team, he is quickly improving. Now that he is feeling better, Chief enjoys running and playing—activities he reportedly did not engage in at his previous home. According to his records, Chief has had leg issues for most of his life, so we will be keeping a close eye on him.

Chief loves to "talk" or carol to anyone who will listen. He enjoys scratching on the big log in his habitat, taking long naps throughout the day, rolling around on enrichment boxes, and caroling with the other lions.

**Rescue Story:** As a member of the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) and a founding member of the Big Cat Sanctuary Alliance (BCSA), Turpentine Creek is often called in by government organizations to handle high-profile cases. In September 2020, Turpentine Creek rescued four tigers and four lions from Tim Stark’s Wildlife In Need, a cub-petting scheme operating as a pseudo-sanctuary.

A federal judge ordered the removal of the animals from the Indiana facility due to Stark’s inhumane declawing practices and his method of prematurely separating cubs from their mothers. The chaotic rescue involved missing and abandoned animals, as well as an agitated, on-the-run Tim Stark.

We required assistance from the U.S. Marshals, who swept the property before we were allowed to enter and stood guard throughout the rescue. All the cats received immediate treatment for health issues; they were arthritic from being declawed, infested with intestinal parasites, and had other individual health concerns.
