happy birthday lucy ! 🥳🎉🎁 / @tkachukmatthew
this isn't the best, but it felt right to make an edit based around our fabulous new hockey players and (hint) of their drama.
dear miss lucy,
so, it's your birthday! the best day of the year! of course, i really, really, really hope you have the most wonderful birthday ever! you are the most incredible friend, roleplay partner and human being and i'm so lucky to have you in my life. i don't know if i always appreciate you the way i should, but i hope you know that at the very, very least. that i'm the luckiest to have met you, on this crazy hellsite and that crazy time that now gives us the ick. you also always try your absolute best to fulfill every insane shipping and plotting concept that my brain comes up with. i've never had that complete confidence to express my insane, whacky, and often downright ridiculous ideas before, but you've really given me that safe space to do just that and i'll always try and do the same for you, as it really is the least you deserve. getting to write four thousand ships (and counting) with you has genuinely been a dream come true. we have such similar visions and wants and we love the same faces and ships and absurd concepts and it really does feel like we were destined to write together. you're an insanely gifted writer, and you really should believe that. everyone who gets to write with you would be super lucky and i really hope you get to spread your amazing writing and characters through this community this year! not only that, but you are inspiring and it's the biggest privilege to get to call you my best friend. you are such a genuinely good, decent and remarkable person. your energy is so contagious and when you get excited about something, it'd be the biggest sin in the world not to get excited alongside of you. you're always such a incredible friend to me. you're patient, understanding and sweet and you make me laugh far more than i think you know. you've literally never failed to be there for me, even when i can be the most annoying person in the world. you're right there and i promise you, i really do recognise it. i hope that i'm even a percentage as good at being your friend as you are being mine. you deserve nothing but the best in the world and i really, really hope that your twenty seventh year on this wild planet is the best yet. (you'll still be stuck with me, so that's up for debate). love you very muchly, have the best birthday ever! lottie x

Re: your post:
- Lando dropped 3 places at the start and then kept going wide
- Zhou guanyu had an issue with his battery then dnf'd when he had further hydraulics issues
- The lead of the race was passed around by like 5 drivers (Leclerc, Hamilton, Sainz, Piastri, George, not in that order i don't think)
-Perez was in front of Max at some point and red bull pitted him so they wouldn't have to give team orders, which is also what happened when Tsunoda was in front of Ricciardo a bit earlier before on 14 lap old Mediums
- Originally George made the call to do a one stop which got him the win (now dsq but still)
- Oscar kinda messed up his race by going too far in the pits and bumping the front jack guy, making his pit stop 4.4 seconds
That's all I can really think of, hope this helped :))
Thank you!! That gives me more or less an idea of what happened. I also heard alot of teams made some strategic mistakes? Which honestly, how long do you need to race at Spa to give you an idea of what works and what doesn’t. Sometimes, the strategist just freeze here I think 😂
But thank you for the update 🫶🏻

TAG GAME: FAV SHOWS
"your top 15 favourite tv shows can say a lot about your personality!"
@wangmiao (who is very talented and very kind) tagged me in this lovely thing which gives me an opportunity to list my fav shows and drama of all times! taking inspiration from kun’s system, I’ll put different fonts/colors for different categories:
cdramas, kdramas, jdramas, european dramas, american dramas (with the added bonus of a bold font for queer under/overtones but more often only from yours truly’s pov, so don’t come at me: cut is for mlm & smol is for wlw)
let’s go!
winter begonia (2020)
word of honor (2021)
poirot (1989-2013)
hannibal (2013-2015)
evilive (2023)
couple of mirrors (2021)
killing eve (2018-2022)
beyond evil (2021)
the devil judge (2021)
meet yourself (2023)
little women (2022)
h/ouse of the dragon (2022-?)
good omens (2019-?)
cherry magic (2020)
she loves to cook and she loves to eat (2022-?)
honorable mentions (either because I just started watching them and I really enjoy them so far OR bc I re-watched them frequently as a comfort show to rely on):
three body problem (2023) (just started, but it’s very thrilling so far *-*)
tomorrow (2002) (includes one of the few hetships I will be ride or die for)
my b/rilliant friend (2018-?) (it’s an italian series, very touching. could be gayer)
crash course in romance (ok maybe hets can have 2 spots in my heart alright)

b/erlin station (2016-2019) (i re-watch season 1 from time to time, but it do be triggering sometimes)
gentleman jack (2019-2022) (I just ogle at the pretty dresses most of the time but. neat)
begin again (2020) (in my heart this is about a lesbian woman and a gay man getting fake married for mutual benefits. it is not. it was too long for me to watch. I want Zhou Yutong to kabedon me on the daily. and she’s younger than me. I am fine)
tagging: @goaheadandflysomeplane and @fismoll7secinv and @amethystina (if they want to do it or if they just want smth to read, no pressure whatsoever!)
#didn’t add a couple of italian crime series bc they would be very niche for the rest of you ik#also I forgot to add a couple of kdramas that introduced me to the genre but#aside from that this should be all#I feel so much about dramas lately#maybe bc I won’t have much time to maximize my leisure time until next week most probably#which sucks major balls#I need to wake up in 5 hours oh god#thank you so much for tagging me!#the / is bc I do not need discourse on these shows. let me passively consume them sometimes it’s ok

What I read in October
Hoo boy, I sure did forget to post this earlier, didn't I!
Honestly I've been so busy so far this month that I just didn't even think of it. Also, this month is sort of evaporating. Before you ask, no I have written nothing at all for the not-NaNo that I was planning to attempt. But I did come up with another great idea for something that I'll probably start and not finish, so you can't say I've done nothing!
Anyway, on to the list:
Unfortunate Elements of My Anatomy, Hailey Piper ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ghost Bird, Lisa Fuller ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Hound of the Baskervilles, Arthur Conan Doyle ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Forest of Stolen Girls, June Hur ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Liar's Dice, Jeannie Lin ⭐️
Straya, Anthony O'Connor ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Toxic, Dan Kaszeta (nf) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Illuminae, Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Penhallow, Georgette Heyer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Myth of the Self Made Man, Ruben Reyes Jr (ss) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Call, Christian White & Summer De Roche ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Death of the Necromancer, Martha Wells ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cretins, Thomas Ha (ss) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Kill Your Brother, Jack Heath ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Doors of Perception, Aldous Huxley (nf) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Valley of Terror, Zhou Haohui, tr. Bonnie Huie ⭐️⭐️
The Curse of the Burdens, John Wyndham ⭐️⭐️
Amazons, Adrienne Mayor (nf) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Kraken Wakes, John Wyndham ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Dead Mountain, Donnie Eichar (nf) ⭐️⭐️
Family Business, Jonathan Sims ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wuthering Heights, Emily Brontë ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
In the House of Aryaman A Lonely Signal Burns, Elizabeth Bear ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A Blessing of Unicorns, Elizabeth Bear ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
METAtropolis Anthology ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plan for Chaos, John Wyndham ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A Fatal Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum, Emma Southon (nf) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Outward Urge, John Wyndham ⭐️⭐️
King Solomon's Mines, H. Rider Haggard DNF
The Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle tr. David Ross (nf) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a bit of a mixed bunch!
At the end of September I went to a writer's conference, where Lisa Fuller and Amie Kaufman were guests of honour. I was a bit annoyed at myself because I had bought Ghost Bird the week before, not realising that she was on the program, so I had the book the whole time but hadn't yet read it! Oh well, better late than never.
Ghost Bird was a solid spooky read, dealing with family history and tensions, small town disturbances, and the violent inheritances of colonialism and racism in Australia. I originally bought it because it was on a list of books to read if you enjoyed Catching Teller Crow by Ambelin Kwaymullina and Ezekiel Kwaymullina, which I did.
Illuminae was one that I had heard @slushrottweiler mention several times, but I'd never gotten around to it (YA, not my most favourite! Epistolary, not my most favourite!). But after the conference I figured I'd check it out, and I'm glad I did. While I wouldn't say that it's my favourite thing ever, it was a solid scifi story, with an interesting form and style, and I'll probably check out the sequels eventually.
Straya by Anthony O'Connor was the other book on this list that I picked up after the conference. Kind of a goofy action romp through post-apocalyptic Sydney, I was expecting to be a kind of brain-off funtime read (and it is! Don't get me wrong!) but it also had a lot of very clever little twists and turns that kept it really engaging. Also a refreshing take on the 'love interest' character, being that she's asexual, and when the protagonist confesses his feelings for her she says well... that's sweet and all, but I don't do that. Can we still be friends? And then they are still friends! A lot of the goofyness of this book is held up by a backbone of sincerity which is really nice, too. In all, a fun read.
Also revisited some faves this month, re-read Penhallow for my book club, and I have to say, it is one of those books which just gets more complex with each rereading. It's up there with Rebecca as some of my most books of all time.
There's one big fat DNF on the list this month, King Solomon's Mine, which through a combination of Victorian era racism, and very poor audio quality was pretty much unlistenable, and I don't think I'll be bothered trying to find a better recording.
And that's that!
nf= non fiction
ss= short story

In addition to an "obligatory" request to classpect the new OW hero Venture I've got some classpecting-related stuff to talk about myself. Although I'm 99% sure I've figured out I'm a Prince Of Rage I feel like there's a lot more to my lesson than just the control issues/serenity prayer stuff we've talked about before. Additional things I need to work on include fear of failure, being too concerned with others' opinions and chronic indecision.
Well obviously I'll classpect Venture. Also congrats on figuring out your main classpect! it's also one of my alternates, aka how I relate to the Rage aspect. As for your lesson...hmm. Hmmmmm. I'm looking at my lesson posts and the stuff you mention can fall into several of them. The thing is I tend to figure out lessons from little things about that individual. Even in my dreams I had to ask what lessons some of my family members need, but once I was told I was all "that makes so much sense for them in hindsight".

MIRACLE FOR MATSUSHITA
Nobuharu Matsushita was able to win the Spanish F2 Feature Race from an unbelievable P18 on the grid in a Safety Car filled race.
Callum Ilott was robbed as he got mugged on the final two restarts, repeatedly being unlucky whenever he tried to pass a car he often ended losing a position to a car behind.
To add insult to Ilott’s injury, his championship rival Robert Shwartzman brought his car home for P2 to cut in to the Briton’s championship lead.
The race started quickly with the five red lights disappearing almost immediately, which allowed Shwartzman to get the jump on Ilott and they and Mick Schumacher went three wide into turn one, somehow not making contact, and Ilott ending up stuck in the middle of a Prema sandwich.
It only took three corners for the Safety Car to come out for the first time, with Marcus Armstrong trying an ambitious move around the outside of turn four, which resulted in him getting on the grass and spinning off into the gravel and beaching his car, becoming the race’s first retirement.
Racing resumed on lap three, but it took until lap six for any action, with Yuki Tsunoda battling past Jack Aitken down the pit straight and taking P6 around the outside of turn one.
Lap eight saw Ilott take the lead from Shwartzman at the same place on the track, as the Russian started to struggle with his tyres, whilst Nikita Mazepin also took P6 from Dan Ticktum.
At the end of the lap Shwartzman and Zhou headed for the pits, but Zhou’s stop was slow.
Ilott came in a lap later and stayed ahead of the Prema, which handed Mick Schumacher the lead as he opted to run an alternate strategy.
He was able to make his tyres lap 23, but got it all wrong on lap 16, getting a huge whack of oversteer on the exit of turn eight and dipped his tyres on the gravel, costing him a huge chunk of time.
Schumacher re-emerged in P13, whilst Shwartzman lost a net P2 to Drugovich as the Brazilian closed in getting through the traffic and got through with a brilliant move up the inside of turn five.
The Safety Car then came out as Sean Gelael tipped Giuliano Alesi into a spin at turn ten, sending him out of the race and neutralising the race for a second time, which allowed Ticktum, Markelov, Matsushita, Ilott, Shwartzman and Drugovich to all pit for fresh rubber and handed Tsunoda the lead.
Racing resumed again on lap 29, and Schumacher immediately took P6 from Aitken with a move around the outside of turn one.
Matsushita then forced Mazepin off the road at turn two (which he was lucky not to get a penalty for) and then used that to build the momentum on Ilott and got through up the inside of turn four as the Brit struggled to clear Tsunoda.
Ilott then got pushed wide at turn seven allowing Shwartzman and Mazepin through, but he got back past the Hitech.
Matsushita fought past Tsunoda at T1 to take the lead and Shwartzman took P2 on the outside of turn three, just as the race was about to be neutralised.
This was becasue Roy Nissany flew off into the wall at turn three, just as the leaders came to lap him, bringing out the Safety Car yet again, he’d just pitted for a new front wing after contact with Samaia, immediately ruining all of his mechanics hard work.
The race timer hit 0:00 behind the Safety Car, but race control generously allowed one more lap of racing, which should’ve benefited Ilott, but didn’t.
He fell down to P7 behind Mazepin, Zhou and even Mick Schumacher, but was able to get back past the German on track and the Russian thanks to a time penalty for a Safety Car infringement.
Ticktum took advantage of the final lap to climb into the points and finish P9, as did Matsushita to take the bonus points for fastest lap.
Further behind, a similar time penalty cost Pedro Piquet his first F2 point, whislt Sean Gelael broke down just before the final chicane, meaning he failed to see the chequered flag

Celine、Givenchy

CONFRONT CORRUPTION ALWAYS #314
https://grahamperryonchina.com/?p=2402 CONFRONT CORRUPTION ALWAYS #314 - GOOD MORNING FROM LONDON Yesterday I highlighted the corruption within the now displaced Afghanistan Government which re-directed US Aid Funds from the people into the pockets of Government employees. I concluded with a glance at China’s relentless campaign against corruption within the Communist Party + Government Most UK first-year History students know the phrase attributed to Lord Acton “Power Corrupts and Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely”. China sees matters differently and argues that “Power Can Corrupt and Absolute Power Can Corrupt Absolutely.” Xi Jinping made clear at the start of his Presidency that fighting corruption was his #1 priority. He knew that corruption within the Leadership lay behind the Tiananmen Square Protests in May 1989. Yesterday – 23 August 2021 – the Party’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection warned Party officials in the West Lake City of Hangzhou to root out any “conflicts of interest” that they or their family members may have with local businesses. It followed the detention of the top Party official in Hangzhou – Zhou Jiangyong. The campaign will focus on links between Party officials and leading Technology Companies – Hangzhou being the Centre of the Technology Sector. Party Inspection will concentrate on Party Officials including those that have retired within the last 3 years. Capitalism there may be in China in order to use Capitalists’ initiative + business acumen to bring about growth and prosperity. But Capitalism needs to be controlled – see the Party decision to halt the $37bn public offerings by Jack Ma and the Ant Group. Recently, President Xi Jinping has targeted “the reckless expansion of capital” with a specific focus on the market concentration of private-sector technology groups. His focus is on “excessively high incomes”. Capitalism comes at a price. The challenge for the Party is to take the undoubted benefits of Capitalism without permitting Capitalist Ideology to infect the Party’s Socialist Goals. - #biden #profsachs #xijinping - https://grahamperryonchina.com/?p=2402

Microsoft waffling over Bitcoin? BTC’s return to Xbox unlikely to spur adoption
Microsoft is sending mixed signals about its true intentions regarding bitcoin (BTC) and the crypto currency market in general. On the one hand, Microsoft chairman Brad Smith gave an interview earlier this year in which he said the multinational had no interest in bitcoin and claimed that Tesla’s decision to invest $1.5 billion made no difference to the company.
A few days ago, however, the tech giant seemed to change its mind by releasing an online survey asking customers how they would like to pay for their Xbox Games Store purchases in the future, with bitcoin being one of the top options on the list.
The development also comes shortly after Smith said fintech companies don’t need to issue their own digital currencies. He argued that central banks should be concerned with the common good of the masses and thus should be the ones managing the flow of the global money supply.
If bitcoin is indeed accepted as a payment method in the Xbox Games Store, it wouldn’t be the first time Microsoft has ventured into crypto currency, as in 2014 the company accepted bitcoin to fund its accounts, which allowed US users to purchase all Windows Store content, including Xbox games.
However, the company’s crypto sales came to a halt in 2018 when the general market went into a frenzied bear market that sent the value of most cryptocurrencies to relatively low levels. However, earlier this year, Microsoft again decided to allow bitcoin payments, but only for its MS Store.
Does the importance of Microsoft change anything in the industry?
The 24th. In March, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that his company would be accepting bitcoin as a payment method for its cars, prompting many in the social media world to finally bring the crypto to the forefront. But even if that’s the case, it’s unclear whether BTC will become the primary means of payment when other major companies like Microsoft, which have questioned cryptocurrencies in the past, do allow them as a means of payment.
On that note, Joe Zhou, founder and CEO of FirstBlood, a blockchain-based esports platform, told Cointelegraph that this development looks generally positive on paper, especially since it will help increase the adoption of crypto in the global digital landscape.
So far, game manufacturers have not been the first to adopt this technology. For example, the makers of League of Legends, Riot Games, do not have a blockchain policy. I think it is. If you allow your users to use cryptocurrencies for purchases in your ecosystem, your competitors will be more inclined to follow you, otherwise they will lose out.
Zhou went on to say that if Microsoft decides to allow crypto payments, it could potentially lay the perfect foundation for the marriage between the gaming and crypto communities, especially since he believes gamers between the ages of 18 and 35 are most likely to choose digital currencies in the future.
Ultimately, he believes that apps like Cash App and PayPal, which allow users to buy and store cryptocurrencies, will help unite the two worlds and enable even greater adoption in the gaming community. I would be very curious to see how Microsoft’s treasury would handle its crypto revenue. Will they be sent to landfills? Or they will keep them like Tesla and MicroStrategy, he added.
Is Microsoft myopic in its cryptographic perspective?
While many believe Microsoft’s interest in integrating crypto currency into its existing payment system is a sign of great things to come, Andrew Colosimo, co-founder of Xaya – a digital asset management gaming platform – told Cointelegraph that while the development is a positive sign in itself, he’s not entirely sure it will have much direct impact on bitcoin, adding
Transaction fees could add more than $5 to the existing cost, unless Microsoft wants to use payment channels like the Lightning Network, as some people in this thread have already suggested. Players will only pay for what costs less. More importantly, no one wants to spend their bitcoin.
However, he acknowledged that if just one major player like Microsoft starts accepting BTC as a form of payment, it could create a Ripple effect that would potentially cause other console operators to follow suit.
Hatem Hachana, COO of the Utopia Genesis Foundation – a blockchain-based platform for tokenizing music rights, assets, and royalties – also believes that most players are already familiar with the concept of in-game purchases, so adding a crypto payment option wouldn’t make much difference, even if it became even more widely accepted.
He added: If Microsoft accepts this, Sony and Nintendo will surely follow. If you look at the field as a whole, everyone is adapting, moving forward and integrating crypto.
The introduction of cryptography makes sense
It’s likely that Microsoft is sensing a new trend around crypto, especially with regard to the incomprehensible token market – an area that has been booming recently. To put things in perspective: The market for digital collectibles has grown significantly in recent months as more and more celebrities take advantage of the trend to digitize their artwork.
Looks like it: NFT Art Revolution: Knocking about his 5040 days of work of love.
For example, Jack Dorsey’s first tweet as an NFT recently sold for $2.9 million. Also, Mike Winkelman – the artist known as Bipple – recently sold one of his works to the Christie’s auction house for a whopping $69 million, making him one of the most valuable artists in the world.
So Microsoft has every reason to re-explore this ever-evolving space and potentially expose its huge customer base – the number of people who own an Xbox One console is estimated to be around 48.69 million – to the digital asset market. When BTC returns to the platform as a payment method, it will mark as a crypto currency exchange point, suggesting it could stay there for some time.

Old Soldiers, Chapter 15: that which we must not do
Special thanks to bzarcher for feedback on this chapter, particularly regarding the need for the first section to exist at all. [AO3 link]
"Still no sign of him?"
"Nope. Not a word. He's laying low - real low."
Tracer leaned against the table set off to the side of Gabriel's office, against the north wall. "It's been weeks."
Gabriel shrugged. "Intelligence is like that."
"I know, I know," she said breezily, but not without a hint of irritation. "So were the Forces."
The strategic advisor snorted knowingly. "It's no coincidence that 'Hurry Up and Wait' has been a running joke in every army ever."
"There's got to be some reason, though. He won't just have buggered off."
The Angelino nodded. "Most likely. Who knows what it is, though."
"It bothers me, luv, it really does." She fiddled with the buttons on her grapple, a nervous habit. "He's doing something. Don't know what, but... it bothers me."
"Me too. But Morrison'll surface when he's good and ready." He flipped through more pages of intel, some from his own sources, some from Lena's friends. "We just need to be good to go when he does."
-----
[three months later]
"So that's how it's going to be, is it, Oxton?" Morrison said, still feeling strange, still feeling sluggish, still feeling as he had since the beginning of the assault when Ziegler had let fly that flare, that burst of light, and his convoy fell under assault again, for the second time in three months. But he kept dancing, around and away, low on ammo, lower on allies - at least, ones still standing - and he wasn't going to go down. Not if he could help it.
He'd broken away from the main corps, trying for high ground to launch his grenades, but this time, the tactical visor had stayed off, thanks to Ziegler's new toy. "The last Overwatch survivor, finally brought down by Talon?"
"Damn you, Morrison - don't tempt me," Lena Oxton snapped back before thinking, pistols aimed but not firing, still circling her target - but as Tracer in orange and tangerine, no matter how much she wasn't wanting to play that part right then. She gestured to the patch on her shoulder. "We're Overwatch, not Talon, and we're here to take you in for charging and trial. We're not here kill you."
"You? Overwatch? Don't make me laugh. There's no real Overwatch, not anymore. Not since the attack. Not since '70."
"Jack, please! Just stand down!" shouted Mei-Ling, peeking around from behind her ice wall. "You'll have a chance to defend yourself. The ICC will hear your case. You will have your day in court!" And I can't wait to testify against you, she did not add aloud.
Where the hell is Delgado's team?! the former Strike Commander thought, stalling for time, running for distance. He snarled at the scientist. "A show trial in front of that puppet theatre, before I have all the evidence of what's really been going on? I don't think so." He fired another few rounds at Oxton, trying to conserve his remaining ammo. "Of all the people - of all the people, Mei - you? Working with Talon, like the rest? I thought you were better than that."
What the bloody hell does he know?! thought Venom, dismayed. He must be bluffing. Got to be. "What is it with you and Ana, anyway? Is everything Talon to you, now?" She glanced around, the briefest of looks. C'mon, Gabe, I can't do this forever. Where are you? Rally the rest of the troops, already!
-----
Dammit, thought Reyes, down the bottom of a very long hill, crouching along the edge of a gully in the face of heavy Los Muertos flak. "Tracer, Gabriel - we're under pretty heavy fire here, you still have eyes on the target?"
"Roger that," came her subvocalised reply over comms. "But it's me and Mei against him and he's not being talked down. How long you gonna be?"
"It's a proper strike force on their side. We're wearing 'em out, and we'll win this, but it's gonna take a few minutes. Keep him entertained 'til we can bring the party to you?"
"We'll do our best, but he's getting away from us."
"From you? "
"I'm holdin' back, luv. Playin' my part."
"Right." He rolled between boulders, firing suppression rounds, getting closer to the front line as D.va - who had finally responded to the recall a week before - charged in on their the right flank with a round of minirockets. "We'll get there as soon as we can."
-----
"It's all Talon! It always was - that was the whole damn point, after the Omnic Crisis!" the one-time Strike Commander retorted, dancing away again, with good speed. It was mostly him and Oxton, now, Mei falling behind, despite doing her best to keep up. "They subverted the UN, just like they subverted you."
Wow, he's just... out on his own somewhere, isn't he? thought the teleporter. "Jack, this is barmy - what are you even on about?"
"Like you don't know." He threw a volley of gunfire at the teleporter, hitting her arm, and she let out a little "yipe!" before rewinding the damage. "Like that," he said. And like they did to me, he thought. But I'll turn it back against them. I'm the one who can. He backed away, again, further and further from the main fighting, and felt a little better, a little faster, a little less stuck.
"This," she said, teleporting behind him and clocking him hard on the back of his head with the butt of her pistol, wanting to do so much more, but being so very, very good, and hating it so very, very much, "is your fault. Or the Slipstream's. Or both." She teleported away as he turned and fired, calling, "And being stuck there for five years? Definitely on you." She punctuated the 'definitely' with four rounds of fire, two on either side of his head, bullets whizzing just past his ears.
Mei-Ling ran as fast as she could, and as hard as she could, throwing up walls to slow him down, catching up just a bit. "Jack, you must stand down! You can outrun me, but not her, and the rest of the team will be here in very soon. You have no chance!"
"I always have a chance," he growled. "I survived your entire assault force - this? This is nothing." I just need to get a little further back, he thought. Almost there. I can feel it.
And then, suddenly, he was there. His tactical visor reappeared, materialising, as if formed from nothing. Tracer saw, and jinked to the side, shouting, "MEI! GET DOWN!" and she threw her stinger, sticking it to his left arm, all but reflexively...
...and the soldier's whole body turned to mist, not as, but just before the bomb exploded. She teleported away, last one...
...and the mist followed, and she ran, ran like she'd never run, oh shit, oh shit, oh shit, seven seconds, just give me seven...
...which was when the the solder's grenade hit her back, hard, followed by the solder's last clip of assault rifle rounds, and she fell, limp, onto the ground, and did not get up.
"LENA!" shrieked Mei, and she charged, throwing spears of ice at the Strike Commander, who sneered, but retreated, choosing the better part of valour, being out, finally, of both grenades and ammo, at least for now. "MERCY!" she shouted into comms, "GET HERE RIGHT NOW, TRACER DOWN AND NOT GETTING BACK UP!"
"We're en route," said the combat medic over comms, "they're retreating and we are on our way!"
Dr. Zhou looked with growing horror at Tracer, who seemed to be struggling to reach something, and not bleeding out, at least, not quickly, and she didn't know how that was possible with a hole that big in her back, How are you alive?! How are you moving?! she thought, but she fired, and fired, and fired, after the Strike Commander, missing, putting up a wall at the end, as he ran out of sight. "MERCY!" she called again. "SHE IS DYING!"
Lena struggled, trying not to black out and succeeding, reserves draining but there is time, there is more than enough time, reaching for one of the hidden venom mines in her pouch but her shoulder wasn't quite working, looking at Mei, mouthing something Mei could not understand. "No! Don't try to move, Angela is on the way!" the researcher said, grabbing Lena's arm, and Lena fought her, getting stronger, not weaker, no, Mei, no, let me, let me get... but she could not draw air, so she could not speak, and then...
"Helden sterben nicht!" shouted the doctor, arriving, as the look in Tracer's eyes screamed No! as loudly as she could make it scream, before she was taken by fear, terrified of what could...
...it was cool. So cool. Unexpectedly so, but not cold, not painful, not like tearing and shifting flesh, nothing like pain at all. She tingled, all over, and somehow, she found herself still aware though it, still awake, still thinking, floating, weightless, glowing, and then suddenly, it was over, and she was standing, and whole. She grabbed at her chest in panic, where some of the rounds had exited, and teleported, successfully, and rewound, and teleported again, and everything - everything - just worked.
She looked around through golden eyes, seeing the world in sniper-sight, and that's when she knew, and again, became cold.
"...you perfected it?!" said Mei, and Angela nodded, briefly. "Yes. A couple of years ago. But... Lena, please!" she shouted, "Do not teleport any more! I need to get you back to the ship at once, for an examination! Please!"
The assassin froze, stopping in place, perfectly still, and tested her web, tested her systems, and found everything right back where it should be - for Mockingbird, anyway.
She hit a set of buttons on her grapple, flipping her armour back to Tracer tangerine and white, but left her eyes gold as she said - with very little inflection in her voice at all - "Yeh. Clearly. And, Mei, luv... you witnessed all this... you need to tell the rest of the team. Fill them in, tell them what he can do now."
She popped the sight off her rifle and separated it back into its component pistols - Tracer wouldn't have that - and re-holstered them both. "Let's go."
-----
"So," said the Talon assassin. "That was... different."
Medical data flashed by on the panel over the ship's examination table, and Dr. Ziegler looked at it, but without enthusiasm, or even her regular focus. She knew it all already - she knew that Lena was in perfect health. In every way. She just prayed the woman didn't know...
"I didn't think you could do your resurrection trick without a deep scan," Venom said, in a pointed but quiet voice. "Much less invoke all... this."
The doctor considered the monitor readouts, intently, but Lena did not let it lie.
"That is what you said, isn't it? That's what I seem t'remember."
Angela closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and exhaled, shuddering. Well. This is it, then. She swallowed, hard. "That's right. I can't."
Venom's face set, grimly, into an angry frown. "Yeh. That's what I thought. When?"
"In my office. When you agreed you were still my patient. It was automatic, but that is not a defence - I knew it would happen, and I let it."
Lena nodded. "Antineutrino entanglement scanner, maybe? Ordinary scanners won't work."
Angela blinked her eyes open, surprised, looking towards her patient. "Yes. Still considered experimental. How did you know?"
Lena smirked. "Had a hunch."
"I see."
"So." The assassin propped herself up, carefully, on her elbows. "You lied to me."
"Yes. No. Yes. It was part of the paperwork you signed, back in London, technically, but... yes. But I never looked at the data. Not even once, I swear to you. I have no idea how you work. I did not violate that confidentiality. I swear."
Venom coughed, a mockery of a laugh. "If that's true, luv, then how did...?"
"I wanted to violate it," she broke in, looking down though wet eyes. "So much, I wanted to. But I didn't. I couldn't, I knew how you'd..." - she finally thought about the question - "I... I compiled it all into the Mockingbird revival database, destroyed the original, and prayed I wouldn't have to use the result. Or that you'd agree, before I did."
"Why would you do that?" Oxton looked down, towards the deck. "Dammit, doc, you know what I said I'd have to do."
"I did not touch your tech," the doctor insisted, desperately clinging to that technicality.
"I am my tech," refuted the assassin, "and you know it."
"Please, no, you don't have to do this, I truly do not know," said the doctor, an edge of fear in her voice.
Oxton shook her head, no. "Don't think that's good enough... 'cause it's not."
Angela shuddered, surrendering to the inevitable. "...I know."
"Well, then."
"Well, then." The Swiss woman set her chin, but it was wobbly. "I will quit Overwatch."
"Ah, no, mate, they need you." Lena sat, swinging her legs over the edge of the table. "More than they need me, t' be honest."
"That's a lie, and you know it."
"Is it? I don't think so." Venom rose from the medical bunk. "They've got a tactical planner, now - one who isn't me." She spun her pistols, just trying to feel normal again, and re-holstered them. "Winston can keep the team together just fine. Tracer..." She shook her head. "She's just an act, s'far as I'm concerned." Flipping her armour back to black and violet, she continued, "One I'm not sure I'm comfortable playing anymore."
"Please don't do this."
"Give me a reason not to, doc," she said, finally pushing the gold from her eyes. "I've put a lot of work into this project, I've really wanted it to fly, but it's become pretty clear that it's..."
"Please don't punish all of them because I decided I'd rather see you hating me than lying dead on the ground," whispered the doctor. "They didn't know." Sobbing all at once, the damn breaking, she looked over to the smaller woman, entire face wet. "It's not their fault."
Venom froze in place, hand just short of the Talon retrieval beacon, and Angela desperately kept talking.
"I swear to you, I do not know how you work. No one does. The data is gone - completely - except within my nanosurgeon farm, and even it doesn't understand, it's not intelligent, not really, and the data is too enmeshed with other data to retrieve. Even I couldn't do it. Hate me," she begged the assassin, falling to her knees in front of the smaller woman, "hate me, if you must, I have betrayed your trust to keep you alive, I freely admit that and I will accept your hate - but I could not bear accept death a second time."
Venom felt dismay at the outburst, confused, ...what is going on...? and the doctor stared back down, down, down at the floor. "Just... don't leave. Don't do it. Please. Don't."
Please. Don't. The words rang through Venom's head like a shot not fired, and, unwanted and unexpected, a tear fell from her own eye, as it dawned upon her to ask, "Are you in... lo..."
She did not finish the word. She didn't have to. "...I'll..." she swallowed, shocked, and wiped her face with her hand. It was still cool to the touch, even to her own. "This is really bad. I'll have to tell Amélie what you've done."
"I do not care. I will confess everything."
"I can't tell you what she'll decide to do. I don't honestly know. But whatever decision she makes, I'll accept it."
"I understand."
"For whatever it's worth, doc - I do believe you, when you say you don't know how we work."
"You do?" Angela looked up at Lena, blinking, surprised.
"Yeh. If y'did... you'd know you didn't need to do that."
"...what?"
"We are bloody hard to kill. And... y'did think you were saving my life. With Mei being in the way, stopping me from healing myself... maybe you even did." She bit her lower lip, thoughtfully. "I don't hate you," she said, as she stepped back outside, "...but now I know I can't really trust you, either."
Mercy's gaze dropped back down to the transport's deck. "I'm sorry."
"I want to believe that," Venom said, regret in her voice. "I really do. I think I even might."
"Thank you."
"But... for the record? I want it logged. You are no longer my doctor."
Angela Ziegler just nodded, accepting the fact.
Lena Oxton stepped down past the end of the boarding ramp, spotting the rest of the assault team returning from the ambush, not at all far away now, with prisoners. Mei-Ling waved, the scientist's broad smile sharing her relief, and the assassin bit her lip and turned back to Dr. Ziegler, quickly, without acknowledging it. "Tell everybody the truth about what happened, 'cause I will if y'don't. And probably will even if y'do. But for now..." She pressed the retrieval beacon's activator switch. "I'll see ya... when I see ya."
And with that, she teleported away.

ILOTT WINS AS TICKTUM HAS A TANTRUM
It was sweet, sweet redemption for Callum Ilott, as he won the F2 Feature Race and took the Championship lead, as fellow Brit Jack Aikten returned to the podium and Dan Ticktum chucked his toys out of the DAMS after the pit stops.
Ilott was never challenged as he dominated the race on his way to the chequered flag, narrowly missing out on taking the extra points for fastest lap as Robert Shwartzman finally relinquished the championship lead.
Dan Ticktum could well end up in more trouble after the race, having been shown the black and white flag, and releasing a sweary and threatening radio message aimed at another driver which you can read below.
The race started with Pedro Piquet stalling on the grid, as Christian Lundgaard fell back from P2 to P4 on the way into Abbey, however he immediately got back past Aitken at The Loop to slot into P3 as they ran down the Wellington Straight.
Guilherme Samaia ran off at the back of the field into the gravel at Luffield but was able to continue, whilst Nikita Mazepin fought past his team mate into Stowe and Louis Deletraz also got Luca Ghiotto around the outside of the Vale chicane for P6 and P7 respectively.
Lap three then saw Ticktum go off through the grass at Chapel as he tried to hold on to P2, but that allowed Lundgaard through initially, and then Aitken too going down the Hangar Straight.
Ticktum’s afternoon never recovered after that moment and two laps later Mick Schumacher was also through for P4 on the outside of Brooklands, whilst Mazepin took P5 from him after running side-by-side through Copse, Maggots and Becketts.
Luca Ghiotto then dropped back down the order after a slow pit stop saw him re-emerge from the pit lane down in P20.
Ilott made his only pit stop on lap eight, handing Schumacher the lead as he was chased by Mazepin, but the Russian was unable to find a way past before their pit stops.
Deletraz then passed Ticktum after the stops, initially trying round the outside of Ticktum and a HWA that hadn’t pitted into Stowe, and then finding a way past at his favourtie spot - on the outside of the Vale chicane.
Ticktum then shouted down the radio: “Next time that **** pulls a kamikaze move like that I’ll f****** crash with him! I’ll tell you that, I’ll never give him that much respect ever again”- the frustrations of the afternoon clearly taking their toll.
A few laps later he also fell behind old F3 rival Schumacher in the middle of Becketts, and the other Prema of Shwartzman also passed him on the outside of Stowe for P8.
One lap later and Mazepin forced his way past Schumacher for P6 down the Hangar Straight, having to dip to wheels onto the grass in order to do so.
The final laps saw Ticktum tumble out of the points as he asked his engineer to stop talking to him on the radio, whilst Lundgaard went off at Brooklands, but was able to continue without any drama.
Mazepin starred again as he took P5 from Tsunoda with four laps to go, before stealing P4 away from Deletraz on the final lap, as his confidence continues to grow since his maiden podium in Hungary.

Yooo I know the post is old but can you draw A1 or B1 with Jack comforting Mei?
So why did this one take me so long?
BECAUSE I DECIDED TO DRAW YOU TWO PICS AS WELL AS GIVE YOU AN EMOTIONAL SHORT STORY! :,D
Now if you’ll excuse me I’m gonna go cry in a corner now!
Gone
An OverwatchShort
Summary: Mei Ling Zhou is finally found at EcopointAntarctica after being in cryosleep for 10 years, and is brought to Dr. AngelaZiegler for treatment. Unfortunately, nomatter who tries to convince her, Mei seems to be in denial about her grimcircumstances. With no one else to turnto Dr. Ziegler seeks aid from Mei’s closest friend, Jack Morrison.
This is astory that I wrote to go along with a drawing request for an angst/comfortscenario between Mei and Jack. You can findthe works below…
https://thegeekysqueaker.deviantart.com/art/They-re-gone-699547642
http://archiveofourown.org/works/11839611
It was late. Very late. Certainly, too late into the night to receive phone calls. However, much to Jack’sdispleasure he was receiving one now.
The shrill sound of the rhythmicbeeping woke him from his sleep. Groaning he sat up, blindly felt around hisnight stand, and answered his phone once he found it.
“Mmm, hello?”
“Jack?” The soft angellike voice was unmistakable.
“Angela? What the hell are youdoing calling me at this hour?“
Wearily looking at the clock hecould see it was 3 in the morning. Looking outside the sky was at its darkestbeing between midnight and dawn. No stars, no moon, and hardly any Dorado citylights were there to illuminate his room.
On the other end of the line Dr.Ziegler sat at her desk with the phone wedged between her shoulder and her earas she used her free hands to fill out some paperwork. Looking at her own clockshe realized that it was almost 10am at Watchpoint Gibraltar.
“Is it late where you are? Ah, I’mso sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you, but it’s important.”
“3 o'clock in the morningimportant? Fine, what is it?”
“Well, it’s incredible newsreally. A week ago, Winston sent a team to scavenge Ecopoint Antarctica. Theteam reported back to us three days ago and informed us that they found MeiLing Zhou. We don’t know how, but she’s alive.”
“… Alive?”
For a moment, the word didn’t seemto register with him. There was a conflicted ache in half of his heart thattried to convince him that he was simply having a very vivid dream, but theother half felt elation that he hadn’t felt in a long time.
“Y-You’ve got to be kidding me.Are you sure? Like 100% sure?”
“I personally just checked onher 10 minutes ago. I’m sure.”
Jack sat up from his bed, turningthe light on his nightstand on. It blinded him for a moment, but for nowthat was the farthest thing on his mind.
“Well what the hell happened toher? Is anyone else from Antarctica alive?”
The phone was quiet for a momentbefore Dr. Ziegler sighed. “It’s a long story, but the gist is that Meihas been in cryostasis for the past ten years. The search team found her andher colleagues in their cryopods… Unfortunately, her colleagues have been deadfor a long time.”
Jack didn’t know what to say, andfor a minute the phone stayed quiet as he tried to find his words. He didn’thave to speak, however, as Dr. Ziegler continued.
“Look, Jack, she’s alive, butwe need you to talk to her.”
Jack’s eyebrow raised in intrigue.Me? I mean I’d be glad to, but why do you need me specifically to talk to her? Is she okay?”
“… Physically, yes, but notmentally… She’s gone into a state of shock, and now she’s in denial of hersituation. I tried to convince her, but she doesn’t believe me because I lookpractically the same as I did before she was placed into cryosleep. Not onlythat, but I did some checking and…”
“… And?”
Again, the line went quiet before heheard Dr. Ziegler give another even more frustrated sigh. Whatever she wasabout to say it wasn’t good.
“We tried to locate her family, friends, anyone other than her colleagues here at Overwatch. Anyone who wasclose to her is now gone. Either they perished in the Omnic Crisis, or they’vedied since. She has no one except for us here at Overwatch, and you were the closest to her out of allof us. She could really use the support.”
Jack frowned.
It was true; Jack had been closewith Mei. There was a time where he even harbored some feelings for her, butshe didn’t feel the same way. She had found another man; Ecopoint Antarctica’slead engineer, Kurt MacReady. Of course, Jack had been a little upsetabout this, but seeing as he valued Mei’s friendship more than his own feelingshe got over his infatuation with her, and focused on his job.
Sitting up the veteran rubbed thesleep from his eyes as he thought to himself, “Shit, out of all the people in the world this could have happento… Why did it have to be her?“
He threw the sheets off, got up fromthe warm spot on the bed, stripped out of his shirt, and began to ruffle aroundhis clothes drawer as he continued to speak to Dr. Ziegler on speakerphone.
"So, you want me to help breakthe news to her, is that right?”
"Yes, that’s right.”
Jack sighed. “Way to give methe hard job, Angela.”
He heard her laugh softly.“You’ll do fine. How soon can you get to Gibraltar?”
“I don’t know, less than aday? I’ll charter a flight within the hour.”
“Perfect. I’ll see you withinthe day then.”
。。。。。
A mere ten minutes after their phonecall Jack had packed a single bag, left his residence, and made his way toDorado travel services. From there he hopped from plane to plane; first toMexico City, then to Madrid, and then finally to Gibraltar.
It had been nearly 15 hours as hemade it to the Gibraltar airport, and although he knew he was expected at theWatchpoint he was still a little surprised to see a chauffeur for him at thefront of the building.
The drive was a quiet one as Jacksat in the back, and committed to his thoughts. Much to his surprise he wasnervous about seeing Mei again. He didn’t know if she would be the same personhe once knew, or how she would take the news that everyone and everything elsehad changed. Deep down he wished he already knew exactly what to say to makeher feel better.
But he didn’t.
Soon they neared the base, and asthey got closer and closer Jack started to notice that the building hadn’tchanged very much. He disliked this place with a passion, but for a moment he rememberedthe good times he had here at Gibraltar. It brought a small, brief smile to hisface.
If only he could bring back thoseold times. If only the world hadn’t changed.
The long driveway finally broughtthem to the front doors of the base, and into the awaiting gaze of Dr.Ziegler. She looked as young and beautiful as she ever had, as if nothingabout her had changed over the course of almost… 8 years? Had it been 8 years? Jacktried to recall when was the last time he had seen her, but of course hecouldn’t go by Angela’s looks to tell how long it had been.
He waved the question of as the carcame to a stop. As he stepped out Dr. Ziegler almost immediately brought theveteran into a hug.
“Welcome back, my friend. Youhave no idea how good it is to see you again.”
Jack smiled. “And of course,it’s always a pleasure to see you again, Angela. So, care to fill me in on thedetails?”
The doctor nodded, and gestured forhim to follow.
。。。。。
It seemed like no one else was inthe base aside from Jack and Angela as the only things that could be heard weretheir footsteps and each other’s voices echo through the halls.
“Mei will be here for a while. The cryostasis took a great toll on her body. She has to recover from muscleatrophy, damage from dehydration and starvation, a bit of damage from the cold, and for the first few days she was even blind.”
“How long has she beenhere?”
“A little over a week. We feltthat perhaps we would give her a few days of recovery before telling her whathappened. We waited, and finally told her three days ago. At first, she hardlyacted surprised, but then she became hysterical. She kept asking to seeMacReady, and eventually we had to tell her small lies to her to get her tocalm down.”
Jacks expression furrowed for amoment. “What did you tell her?”
Angela frowned. “Well, we toldher that MacReady and her other teammates needed some time before she could seethem, but the truth is that they’ve been dead for years. The cryopods have a rather grim function ofturning themselves off if the sensors detect that the inhabitant has perished. The ice they used would no longer give thatbody the supplements needed to live…”
For a moment she hesitated, taking adeep breath so she could muster up the will to finish her thought. “…The sad reality is that none of them wouldhave made it if the cryopods didn’t have this function. As each one died less of the supplements wereused, ultimately giving the others a better chance of survival. Unfortunately, it would have been veryunlikely for more than one of them to survive. Mei survived simply on chance.”
“So, I’ll have to tell her all thisbad news all over again.”
“I’m afraid so.”
Finally, they approached Mei’s room, and despite having years of training to remain calm in harrowing situationssuch as battle, Jack somehow felt his nerves become riled. The door was closed, but Jack could seethrough its narrow window.
There she was.
She stared out the window towardsthe Alboran Sea seemingly content for the moment. Incredibly she looked exactly the same as shedid when he last saw her.
“I can’t believe it… It really isher.”
Angela smiled. “She hasn’t aged a day; another outcome ofbeing frozen for so long. We don’t know how it’ll affect her in the future, butfor now it looks like she’ll recover just fine… So, are you ready?”
Jack took a deep breath, andnodded. “No, but I didn’t come here fornothing.”
“Good. Just remember; be blunt and persistentabout the truth, but be compassionate about it too.”
Jack nodded showing that heunderstood her advice, but his stare remained fixed on Mei.
With that Dr. Ziegler opened thedoor, clearing her throat to get the young woman’s attention.
Mei turned, and smiled. “Angela, hello again!”
Jack could hear her voice; it washoarse and tired, but despite this she was clearly trying to remain cheerful.
The doctor smiled back. “You have a guest today. Can I show him in?”
Mei seemed surprised for a momentbefore giving a small but still excited nod of the head. “Yes, please do! I’d love company.”
Angela smiled, stepping off to theside so Jack could make his way into the room. As soon as he entered Angelastepped out, and shut the door behind them leaving the two friends alonetogether. Immediately Mei’s face lit up. Despite his aging she knew exactly who this was.
“Jack, is it really you? Your hairhas gone grey already!”
“Yea, I didn’t really age verywell.”
“Nonsense! I think you’re a handsomesilver fox! Also, I doubt it’s your age; it’s probably that stressful job ofyours.”
“What, my position as Commander?”
As they spoke Mei motioned for herfriend to sit in the chair at her bed side, and he complied. She nodded, “Yes, that one. It’s such a stressful job; no wonder itsshowing in your hair color!”
Jack gave a smile, his eyes showingthe smallest trace of pain over how his position was lost.
“Actually, I’m not Commanderanymore.”
Mei’s eyes widened. “You’re not?What happened?”
Nervously scratching the back of hishead, the veteran replied, “Overwatch was disbanded. Technically it still is.”
For a moment Mei didn’t seem toregister the information, but eventually her mind came to what she felt was areasonable conclusion.
“But Angela and Winston arehere! Torbjörn, Ana and Lena too! Theywouldn’t be running Overwatch illegally. That’s not the kind of people they are.”
Jack sighed, understanding that hewas going to have to break the news to her sooner or later, but he truly didnot want to break her heart. Despite what hewanted he was there for one reason, and that reason wasn’t to protect herfeelings.
“Mei, we need to talk. I need toinform you of some bad news.”
Despite the tone in his voice theclimatologist held an unwavering smile. Shenodded, “What is it, Jack?”
He took a breath.
“Mei, you’ve been gone for a verylong time. We fou-”
“Oh, I know already.”
Jack’s eyes widened withsurprise. “Y-You do?”
Mei nodded. “Yes. I know I’ve been asleep for a year. It would have been longer if our beacon didn’tgo off. Thank goodness Winston sent ateam to respond to it!”
Jack’s heart dropped, his hopes ofmaking the situation easier on Mei were dashed within an instant. She truly was in denial about her situation.
“… Mei, I’m sorry, but that’s not thetruth. It’s been ten years, not one.”
Immediately Mei scowled, shaking herhead. “Jack, I don’t know if you andAngela are playing a joke on me, but it’s not funny! It’s only been a year! Why do both insist that it’s been ten?”
“Because it is the truth. I haveproof.” As Jack spoke he ruffled through his pocket trying to locate his phone.Upon finding it he unlocked it, opened a world news app, and physically showedMei the date before picking the first few articles he could find so he couldread the headlines.
“Today, February 25th,2076. English Prime Minister Canterman to address the nation on arrangement onnew immigration policies with Iraq.”
“Yesterday, February 24th,2076. Numbani Airlines respond to recent terrorist attacks, ‘There was nothing else we could have doneto prevent this’.”
“Today, February 25th-”
“Stop it, Jack! Why are you tellingme this?!”
Jack gave her an unwavering stare. His eyes reflected on just how serious he wasabout what he was saying. “Because Ineed you to understand what’s happening here. I know it’s not what you want to hear, but the situation you believeisn’t reality. You’re using it to copewith what has happened, but you can’t do that. It’s not healthy. The truth is that it hasn’t been a year, it’s beenten years.”
The broken look on Mei’s face torehim apart on the inside. The tears in her eyes started to swell, and the onlyway she seemed to get rid of them was by closing her eyes and turning her headaway from Jack…
Away from the truth…
“You can’t be right, Jack! Opara and Torres set our sleep cycles to ayear or less. So, yes, maybe it was alittle longer than a year, but there’s no way it was ten!”
“Mei, the team didn’t respond to abeacon; they were a salvation crew. Asfar as anyone is aware a beacon was never set off.”
Mei glared at Jack with eyesseemingly full of contempt. The more hetried to tell her the worse it got.
“Well then ask Opara! Or Torres! They’ll tell you that it went off!”
“… I can’t do that.”
“Can’t or won’t? They’re in the other room right-!”
“No. No, they’re not.”
Jack got up from his seat, and muchto the mortified expression Mei was giving him he sat down on her bed. He took her hand into his own, but she pulledit away seemingly in disgust.
“What do you mean ‘No they’re not’?! Yes, theyare! I’ll show you if I have to! I’ll have Kurt talk sense into your thickskull!!”
Mei tried to get up from her seat, but Jack prevented her from moving as he grabbed her arms.
“MacReady is dead, Mei. They’re all dead.” Despite how much she fought him on it Jack’stone was stern, but not devoid of sympathy.
“Why the hell would you say that?! They’re alive, I swear!!”
Reaching out Jack brought her into atight hug, and almost immediately Mei started to thrash and beat against hischest to get him off.
“Let go of me!! Jack, I swear if you don’t let me go I’llhave Kurt beat the shit out of you!”
Even though he was surprised at herviolence and the expletives that were coming out of her mouth Jack still heldon to her; his grip barely loosening as she tried desperately to get free.
“Mei, stop. They’re gone.”
“NO!!!”
“Yes. Mei, they all died years ago. The cryopods couldn’t keep you allalive. You’re the only one who made it.”
Slowly Mei stopped fighting againsthim, her fist unfurled as she wrapped her arms around Jack for a hug. She looked him in the eyes, and he couldpractically see the realization of ten years passing her by as the tears beganto fall.
“… B-But they-”
“Mei, they’re gone. They’re all gone.”
The room stayed eerily quiet for amoment. Mei’s breath soon became shaky, and Jack could hear as she started to whimper.
Soon the whimpers evolved into sobs, which then became agonizing screams of remorse.
Everyone in the medical ward couldhear Mei’s despair as each cry tore through her throat. Angela, who had been outside for theirconversation, even found herself shaking, trying desperately to hold in her owntears.
Jack was the only one who heldhimself together, and there was one reason he did so.
Mei needed someone to be strong for her.
He stroked her hair, and slowly beganto rock her back and forth as if he were consoling a child.
“… I’m sorry.”

“I’ll never leave your side. Not until we can ensure your safety.”
no, god no. she was not to become a burden this far into their mission–––––
things were going fairly well till the opposition jacked things up a notch ; the flurries she created through crystal && frost were not enough to keep such enemies at bay. they tore through defenses, they broke down her walls with KICKS && explosives from their cores. they collapsed over one another, the clawed and BROKE through everything she could possibly bring. she even assured the others with her own words ;
i`ve been improving the strength of my ice. her own words pounded against her ears. we`ll be okay.
she was eating her own words by the time a third wave of forces came at their frontline. she was confident over the defense she was providing, she was counting on being as useful as she can be… yet, the world crumbled as her own walls did. the ice crashed to the ground with a resounding blast, like thunder in her ears, forever ringing and silencing the rest of the field. before she can even raise another wall, the bullet casing pierced through her skin and came out the other way. it broke through the padding of her parka, sliced her shirt, and BORE through the muscles in her side. she was shot.
i was shot.
she had to remind herself. over and over. soon enough, voices calling her name were growing in a crescendo, forming a wave overhead and crashing down with one final statement over the com-device in her ear. she`s hit. one of them said. go to her now. someone else demanded. and soon, she knew help would be on her way, but her heart pounded in her ears && her hands acted on their own. she brought up more walls, more defenses, and let snowball flutter over to the masses and freeze the ground below them. she was not going to let them get past her. she couldn`t let them.
she wasn`t going to let them down. especially the man who came sprinting to her side with a pulse rifle under his arm && a fretting doctor following close behind. no, she especially couldn`t let them down. not the super-soldier or the medical genius. not the knight charging in with a meka flying in tow. she was determined to prove herself, even through the sting that traveled through her veins like lightning as it strikes the ground, quickly skittering through every part it can reach, traveling until it could no more and is forcing tears to stream down her face in agony and red.
a red hot DETERMINATION could only equal the vermillion that stained her coat.
it even seeped on to her glove as she stumbled against his side, his rifle sheathed && visor showing her pathetic reflection. his words were falling on deaf ears, but she caught them through the very idea of being a burden to their task. god knows she shouldn`t be on the battlefield. “ miss. zhou, we`re going to get you out of here. “ he was formal, oh so formal. “ hold onto me, i`ve got you. “ and she had enough of the formalities.
❛ n-no! i`m going to stay! ❜ she shrunk away from his grasp, but he only clung tighter. ❛ i was assigned to stay here and defend. i-i`m sorry, i`m going to do JUST THAT. ❜ she tried to put on a brave face, but was so muddled by the tears she shed. ❛ i`m not leaving. ❜
he growled, a primal anger only fueling him to pick her up and so EASILY hold her in his arms. unrelenting. there was no escaping the grasp that sprinted with her across a battlefield that rained bullets and was a storm of violence && aggression. “ mei, i am only going to tell you this ONCE. remember it. “ he didn`t bark, nor did he roar ; he only spoke up above the storm around them. “ i`ll never leave your side. not until we can ASSURE your safety. “
mei-ling was sent into shock, not only from the tone in his voice, but to the way he gripped onto her as the healing beam surrounded her. they were a little ways from safety, but with a sharp intake of breath as the wound at her side became increasingly real, she settled into silence and let herself be taken into safety.
until they were all safe, of course.
once they were settled, then he`d be getting an earful about how she was determined to stay out there && fight, and how he shouldn`t have intervened.
