Daily MCO Drink #747: C&C, made with 45ml each of Remy Martin VSOP and green Chartreuse, stirred over ice and strained over fresh ice. Had a B&B the other day, which is Benedictine DOM and Brandy, so I was wondering what the same drink with Chartreuse instead of Benedictine would be like. I like both herbal liqueurs, especially when used in cocktails, but the Benedictine edges out the Chartreuse in this combination because of ita more honey sweetness. Daily MCO Drink #694: LOVELIGHT, made with 45ml Remy Martin VSOP cognac, 22.5ml Campari, 15ml Dolin Rouge vermouth, 1 barspoon cinnamon syrup, 2 dashes Angostura Cocoa Bitters, stirred over ice and strained over clear ice block from @isipadu_icecompany. Happy Valentine’s Day! This is a, er, lovely drink for the occasion, a Cognac-based Negroni twist with hints of cinnamon and chocolate, and a hefty hit of my favourite VSOP. And yes, I actually got the Cocoa Bitters with making this drink in mine. Daily MCO Drink #692: ROME IS BURNING, made with 45ml Remy Martin VSOP, 22.5ml Dolin Rouge vermouth, 3 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters, 5ml grenadine syrup, stirred over ice and strained, then topped with 45ml sparkling wine. Can’t say I’m a big fan of that hint of grenadine in there, but the Remy Martin VSOP more than covers for that indiscretion, with the aparkling wine helping to acentuate thise sweet cognac notes rather than the more sickly ones from the grenadine. Daily MCO Drink #654: PINI, made with 50ml Delixir Quebranta Peruvian pisco, 15ml Remy Martin VSOP cognac, 10ml Mozart Chocolate Spirit, stirred over icer and strained. Not a bad drink to kill this bottle of pisco and Remy VSOP with. Martini style, but with a sweet fruity note and a chocolate backdrop. Adapted from a recipe found on Difford’s Guide. The recipe there uses creme de cacao liqueur instead of chocolate distilled spirit. It also adds 5ml of sugar syrup, and shakes the cocktail. Daily MCO Drink #470, MCO Day #472: CHAMPAGNE COCKTAIL, made with 1 sugar cube muddled with 3 dashes Angostura Aromatic Bitters at the bottom of a champagne flute, add 20ml Remy Martin VSOP cognac, then topped with prosecco. Was gonna wait till I had some actual champagne to make this, but since that’s pretty much out of my budget, prosecco will have to do. I doubles the cognac measure here from the IBA recipe’s 10ml, because Remy. Remy Martin’s a fine champagne cognac, BTW, so at least there’s SOME element of champagne in there LOL. And I didn’t stir the sugar too much so that the drink isn’t too sweet. All in all, I probably liked this more because of the higher measure if cognac. Daily MCO Drink #433, MCO Day #435: TANTRIS SIDECAR NO.1, made with 2 parts Remy Martin VSOP, 1 part Cointreau, 1 part Coquerel XO Calvados, 1/2 part Green Chartreuse, 1/2 part pineapple juice, 1 part lemon juice, 1/2 part simple syrup, shaken over ice and strained. Adapted from a 2000 recipe by Audrey Sanders. It’s recognisably a Sidecar initially, with the cognac, triple sec and lemon dominating at first, but then the other flavours start creeping up - the hint of calvados on the tip of your tongue, the pineapple mingling with the lemon citrus, and best of all, that lingering Chartreuse herbal note right at the finish. Daily MCO Drink #399, MCO Day #401: COSMOPOLITAN DELIGHT, made with 1.5 parts Remy Martin VSOP cognac, 1/2 part Grand Marnier, 1 1/4 part red wine, 1/4 part Goffard Orgeat syrup, 1/2 part lemon juice, 1/4 part simple syrup, shaken over ice and strained. Not to be confused with the Cosmopolitan, this is a recipe that dayes back to a 1902 book by Charlie Paul. I’m not typically a fan of red wine drinks but the cognac and cognac-based triple sec give thia a velvety mouhtfeel that softens the tannins, and the other elements provide the balance. Daily MCO Drink #379, MCO Day #381: LE TOUR EIFFEL, made with 2.5 parts Remy Martin VSOP cognac, 1/2 part Cointreau triple sec, 1/2 part gentian liqueur, 1 dash absinthe, stirred over ice and strained. Adapted from a 2007 recipe by Gary ‘gaz’ Regan, who came up with it after wondering how a Sazerac would be like if it had been invented in France instead of New Orleans. The Remy and Cointreau go well together, obviously, but the surprise is the gentian liqueur, which stands out at first, but graciously gives way for the cognac to shine on the palate before showing up to dominate the finish once more. Meanwhile, the absinthe just continuously pops up in the background like trying to say, “Notice me, Senpai!”. Daily MCO Drink #368, MCO Day #370: BRANDY MATA KUCING, made with 2 parts Remy Martin VSOP cognac, 4 parts longan herbal drink built over ice. One of my main go-to cocktails, sorry, KOKTELS, at Coley (@coleylumpur). Refreshing and awesome. I’d been meaning to make this all MCO, but somehow it doesn’t work so well with any cognac other than Remy VSOP, which is what Coley uses as well.
