Unpopular K-pop opinion [IU's version]

As an OG Uaena, I feel like we don't talk enough about IU's older/early music videos or her live clips throughout her career - that made her the Queen of K-pop she is right now. Here are some of IU's music video/live clips that are underrated and worth checking out.

Lost Child (Mia) First off, her debut song. To release a ballad song as a debut song definitely says a lot about her talent. Not to mention she was only 15 years old back then. We all know how hard it is to make it as a soloist, especially to this day. Not unless you're from the Big 3 entertainment.

(A Story) Only I Didn't Know 나만 몰랐던 이야기... is a classic IU ballad song. I don't know why but my 11-year-old self can relate to this. The way IU can effortlessly make you feel the pain through her singing is way beyond. And also to have Park Bo Young in the mv??? Ugh. Truly a chef's kiss to have them in one project.

Boo Cuteness overload. If you ever wondered when IU started having many personas such as Lee Jidong and Lee Jigeum? Yeah. This is where it all began. Kidding aside, Boo shows IU's cutie and bubbly side here in contrast to the above-mentioned music videos.

Hey [Rock Version] Live From the same album (as Boo) Growing Up... this live performance of the Hey Rock version showcases IU's star power even during her Rookie days. Giving you no doubt she can sing LIVE.

Last Fantasy This may not be everyone's favorite, but this song will always have a special place in my heart. Some of you might not know but the way she released this song - unannounced as a gift, will show how IU is very grateful and loving toward Uaenas.

Every End of the Day/Peach Okay, I know this one's a bit lengthy. But, hear me out. There's a lot to unpack here. I don't know about y'all, but I really loved this mv because of how they approach shooting it. It's just like a documentary, you know like her IUtvs. They also included how IU came up with her writing process for Peach. And cannot stress enough how IU is so gf coded in the mv of EEOTD. Also, watch IU's live performance of Peach on Remocon. I just love the fact that her songs are even better when accompanied by a band.

Beautiful Dancer I swear, there's something about IU singing in Japanese. And she spoke in Japanese in her intro as if she was coming straight out of some sort of anime. After all these years, even if I don't listen to this song that often. Every time I hear it, I know every lyric. It's like it's engraved within me. I was also reminded of Kim Pilsook during her dance part in this mv. Such a cutie bub.

Believe in Love (with Yoo Seung-ho) I'm a sucker for IU duets. This is one of them. I love everything about this mv, IU's vocals never miss. And according to Soompi: "The lyrics of the song are written in reference to Yoo Seung Ho’s diary which he wrote during his trip to Sri Lanka where he witnessed the lives of orphans of wars." Which makes it even more meaningful.

This will be part 1 of my IU recommendations. I hope you'll love them as much as I do. And get the recognition IU deserves for her artistry not just her looks. I truly admire her mind and her humble beginnings as now she mastered her craft and managed to maintain on top of her career.

Exercise fic (and other) recs 7

Some more fic recs!  Plus a podcast fic rec and a TV show!

Most of the fics I read this week were Batman/Batfam/Superbat, along with one HP fic.  The first fic was fun, there was a lot of Clark and Jason interaction that I really enjoyed.  The second one is an AU were the bat kids can only fight crime with Bruce when they reach 18.  The third one is a random HP fic from an author in that fandom that I follow and enjoy.  The last fic is HILARIOUS, omg.  All I can say is, poor Damian.  He is going to take some psychic damage when he figures out what Bruce and Clark were doing in the bedroom, lol.

Once a week, my friend @beachcat0772 and I watch an episode of Psych together (as long as our work schedules match up.  *shakes fist* curse you capitalism!).  I walked on the treadmill as I watched this time.  I am having a lot of fun with the Psych watch through.  I’ve never seen it, but my friend has.  It’s fun going through the episode summaries, and listening to her get excited about upcoming ones :D

I also got NEW SHOES.  When it comes to exercising and being active in general, I try to keep it as easy as possible.  I keep my treadmill out in the living area, in front of the TV.  This way, there’s easy access to it so I ACTUALLY USE IT.  I also decided to do this with with my shoes too.  The are running shoes, but they are slip-ons (easy to put on and take off).  If I make exercise easy for me, I have NO EXCUSES not to do it.  

The coffee shop I go to every Sunday currently has a cinnamon roll latte that I love.  It’s Very Tasty.   

I took a slightly different path on my walk today.  I have to walk up a steeper path, and it’s a bit rockier too.  So a good work out, lol!  This is the path leading up to it.

There is also a spot that has a cool outlook, and you can find it by looking for these two trees that look like posts.  It reminds me of walking through a doorway.  

I didn’t get any good bird pictures at the arboretum today, but I did have a mourning dove yesterday in it’s borb form sitting on the tree close to my balcony.  They were Very Cute.

I take a lot of pictures on my walks.  I’m tempted to do another post later with more of the neat pictures I was able to take.  We’ll see!

I love this etymology. It's an example of a double borrow word (or re-borrowed word).

The original English is "animation", which refers to any kind of animated media.

As a foreign concept, this is imported to Japan phonetically: アニメーション (animēshon). As is often done (due to each character representing a mora, with fewer sounds than in English, so to transliterate the sound, it invariably ends up "longer" than the original), this is shortened to just アニメ (anime).

Then Japan develops its own style of animation, complete with its own tropes and the like. This catches on in the West, and so the word アニメ is re-borrowed back into English as "anime" to refer specifically to Japanese-style animation.

Thus English speakers think the original word in Japanese has the same meaning and connotation, when it does not. (However you can easily disambiguate by saying 日本アニメ, Japanese animation.)

This is, interestingly, actually similar to how Japanese people can get confused about English words. For instance, the word "remote control" fully transliterated is リモートコントロール (rimōtokontorōru), which is rather a mouthful. So it got abbreviated down to just リモコン (rimokon).

However, if you visited a friend in the USA and asked where their "remocon" was, they'd look at you funny, wouldn't they.

when you see "anime" what you think of is specifically Japanese animation, both a style and indicating where it was produced. in Japan, this is different, as "anime" refers to any animation. this is illustrated no better than looking at Japanese sales charts, such as this week's anime blu-ray sales chart
