why does Rook agree to join the Veilguard?

I chose my Rook to be a Warden (I'm an origins stan at heart. lov me a grey warden) and prior to accidentally-unleashing-turbo-blight, they saw helping the Veilguard as something parallel to their oath. another massive thing where the effort put into stopping it is the sum of the whole.

upon accidentally-unleashing-turbo-blight (and also gods), well. that's literally the thing they devoted the remainder of their life to. now, if only they could get their boss to listen to them.

how'd Rook get those scars?

sooo, this is Lyra, non-binary, recruited out of Orzammar many years ago. I picked these ones that kinda look like lightning scars? and they've probably fought some mages/darkspawn emissaries in their time. but also bc I kinda think it could represent the taint starting to spread. I have better screencaps of them but not with the scarring plainly visible, alas.

when was the last time they cried?

I think, sometimes, after a battle- any battle- when they're alone, when they're washing the blood and the gore and the blight from their skin- when their hands start to shake, because they no longer need to be steady to hold a sword- they take the time to cry. not out of sadness. just out of the adrenaline crash, the release, the moments playing over and over again.

i took a break for the remainder of august + all of september to kind of recharge from the digimon screencap marathon i put myself through, but now it's time to dive back into screencap hell.

this is a lot of rambly nonsense that's really only relevant/important to me, so i'm shoving it under a read more lol

unfortunately i don't have any other digimon projects to work on for the time being, but i do have, uh, plenty of other stuff i've let pile up over the years so. i'm gonna start slowly trying to tackle those.

and i kind of liked the check-in progress posts?? it feels like it kept me more focused on actually trying to make progress than if i just wrote out a schedule in notepad or something. like obviously i'm not obligated to do any of this - it's strictly a 'for fun' thing for me!! - but. it definitely made me want to actually work more than any other methods i've tried so far. i don't think i'll do weekly posts like i did for digimon, but maybe an end of the month check-in at least...? idk we'll see.

but the digimon project was also, uh, very ambitious. and i definitely do not want to put myself through anything like that again anytime soon. so after some plotting and shuffling things around, i think in the end i'm gonna go with something like:

screencap 12 episodes a month (3 per week)

organize 24 episodes a month (6 per week)

which, from past experience, is pretty doable, even with minimum free time? it's a decent little amount of progress every month without becoming too overwhelming. and if i make sure it's two separate projects (screencap [x] series, but organize [y] series), i shouldn't get sick of working on things nearly as quickly.

plus, like, it's not a hard limit. i can always work on more episodes if i find myself hitting the goal early or something. so! we'll see how this treats me for the final three months of the year and if needed, i'll either adjust it or maybe even drop it entirely by 2025. who knows!

all that being said, it is october 1st. so that means time to figure out what the hell i'm gonna start working on this month. see you on halloween with some kind of update, i guess!!!

I didn't think that this situation would escalate this far, but what has happened recently is inexcusable. If you've been in the chucky tag the past few days, chances are you've seen people talking about the transphobic roleplay blog, either for or against. I've decided to make a full post compiling these reciepts and the harassment I and my friends have faced. If anything new comes to light, I will edit this post. Please block the user above. Reciepts are below the cut.

This post (archive) is the original one that started the whole thing. In the notes, many of us have been blocked by or blocked her, but some arguments are still left. I made a comment that due to I being blocked is now gone. I was not able to screenshot it, but I had made a joke about how Chucky is actually canonically trans and that we see his top surgery on screen. Obviously, I was joking. She responded in a separate post (also deleted) and I replied to that as well. The only remainder of the conversation is this screencap:

After this, she made a post (archive) about how we are attacking her for being cis despite having no proof, and also calls us abusive in the tags. She however would later post an ask with these as the tags.

Later, she would delete that post, and post a new one claiming to be genderfluid in the tags. I think that she is lying to get off scott free, but if anyone has proof otherwise, such as her mentioning this before, please show me.

After the post about how we were assuming she was cis, she posted this (archive) anonymous ask agreeing with them calling me and my friends nazis. My friend moodorbs was one of the targets of this ask, as ey had been arguing with her, and ey are jewish. It's in eir bio, and eir pinned post is a mezuzah, so I doubt she missed it. She willingly agreed with calling a jewish person a nazi, as well as the rest of the trans people critiquing her.

This is where the timeline gets muddied due to her deleting most of the posts.

Here (archive) she is agreeing with a person saying there are fake trans and gay infiltrators.

During these, my aforementioned friend moodorbs was arguing with her, here are the remaining screenshots of those conversations: THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE, as it's where she says "lesbians don't like penises," as well as the t slur. This would be the first post she would later delete, though she still stands by her usage of the word. Here, here, and here is my friend continuing to argue. This ask has her reinforcing her previous transmisogynist statements.

My other friend, hall0weenjack, was also sending her asks and replies at this time. This post (archive), where she tried to back down from her previous transmisogynist statements (by now they were deleted) and doubled down on calling us nazis.

In this post (archive) she called us ageist for assuming her age. In June 2018, she called herself 31+, so we can assume she is at least 33 years old now. Edit: to make it clear how insane that is, that is twice my age. And it is at least. I go to high school. She, probably, has a job. And she is accusing me of emotional abuse online.

By this time, either we had blocked her or she had blocked us, and her final post in that timeframe is this one (archive) where she responds to the evidence we had been sending her telling her that Chucky is canonically queer, and she responds with one of the most bizarre misunderstandings of sexual fluidity I've ever seen. Did you forget this all started over Chucky the doll? Because I did.

A couple days passed. People got some weird anons, but nothing horrendous. Until this morning when I started recieving incredibly harsh anons that despite all their claiming to not be associated with the previous mess, I find that hard to believe so I'm including them anyway. There's this and this from yesterday, and today is when I received this, this, and this, all of which misgendered me and called me slurs to some degree. I also got these two, but didn't post them because I didn't want to upset my followers.

My friend moodorbs messaged her, telling her that I'm a minor and to stop if it's her, or tell her friends, or make a post telling her followers to stop harassing me. She never responded, but did make this post (archive) after the message was sent, so it was a conscious choice. In that post, she also referred to trans people as a cult.

Please block tiffanyxvalentine. Do not engage with her unless you want to report her for hate speech. She has been frequently supported by tumblr users chuckysdude, killachuckychuck, bitofthisandthat, ayylovley, usagitolee, jarethshouldseemeinacrown, cassadinefangh, shadesofleighh, and palavenn. Though that is a sizable majority, if you want to feel completely safe I recommend going through her notes section.

Edit: if you are on that list of users it is because you have liked multiple of the posts linked here. The list is a precaution for other trans people due to harassment. If your first thought seeing your name here isn't "How could I support someone who is so horrifically bigoted?" then you deserve it as well. So not to be dramatic, but if you could get a degree in discourse-ology, the topic of my master’s thesis would definitely be “Which political candidates did the characters of the CW’s Gossip Girl (2007-2012) support?” I’m doing this in order from most to least obvious, and considering both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.

[ little ivy interjection here: i haven’t changed ANYTHING, except adding a screencap of the title + the submission, because that made me laugh & more people deserve to see it, and putting this under a read more because that’s how i generally try & organise stuff on this blog. so this submission is exactly as it was when i received it! also while we’re at it, anon, this MADE my day.]

Blair Waldorf: “Hillary Clinton is one of my role models. I do not break treaties, you ass!” (04x13) There’s no question that Blair would go hard for Hillary in 2016, she praised her on multiple occasions throughout the series. Blair’s a classic American neoliberal, third wave Democrat-type: she’s decently progressive when it comes to social policies, and would be decidedly supportive of causes like gay marriage, racial equity, and women’s reproductive rights, but she’s still very much in favor of maintaining the status quo when it comes to capitalism and the hegemonic structure of power that, lets face it, heavily favors her own class interests. To use the American healthcare system as an example: Blair would have been all for the Affordable Care Act, and is largely supportive of the idea of creating a public option - but single payer, nationalized health care? It just wouldn't work in a country like the United States for “X” reason (although the real reason, deep down, is that she doesn’t want to see her tax rate go up in any meaningful way). So she’s thoroughly for Clinton in both the 2016 primaries and the general election, she maybe even comes out with a line of high-end “I’m With Her” merchandise if she’s still CEO of Waldorf Designs, and is personally heartbroken when Clinton loses.

Flash forward to the 2020 primaries. Blairhates Donald Trump, like emotionally, viscerally hates him - his misogyny, his incompetence, and his blatant tackiness are a direct repudiation of her beliefs, and the fact that he’s representing Manhattan society and the Upper East Side to the world in such a godawful way is frankly embarrassing. So in a certain sense, her strategy, like frankly many Americans at the time going into the 2020 Democratic primaries is, “Which one of these candidates has the greatest chance at beating Donald Trump?” I see Blair being rather conflicted at first, but ultimately going for either Amy Klobuchar or Kamala Harris. She has a certain admiration for Elizabeth Warren given her professional background, but her policies are a bit too progressive for someone like Blair. Buttigeg is fine, but not especially thrilling. Biden, quite frankly, doesn’t seem like he has any real chance at winning, although I think he’d be Blair’s third choice after Harris and Klobuchar. I can see her leaning more towards Harris ultimately - although, after the “Amy Klobuchar throws staplers at her interns!!” rumors start spreading, Blair cannot help but, at a personal level, kind of respect her for that. When Biden unexpectedly takes South Carolina and then the Democratic nomination, Blair is a bit disappointed, but not overly so, and quickly marshals her financial resources into supporting and fundraising for him for the remainder of the election. At least it’s not Sanders - or Bloomberg. As a New Yorker, of course Blair’s opinion is “Fuck Michael Bloomberg”.

Chuck Bass: Now here’s where it gets interesting. Chuck, as you said, isn’t stupid - there’s no way he falls for the “build the wall” crap or any of Trump’s rhetoric, he knows it’s a bullshit farce and sees right through it. But you know what he definitely is? Deeply greedy and deeply selfish. I’m hardly the first person to point this out, but Chuck Bass is, in many ways, the fictional equivalent of the Donald Trumps and Michael Bloombergs and Brett Kavanaughs of the world - new money billionaire who inherited his wealth from his father working in the real estate industry, who despite his lack of business acumen and deeply problematic history with women, has managed to coast through life failing upwards with absolutely no social or legal accountability? I mean, back in 2010, Forbes Magazine actually did a real interview with the fictional Chuck Bass in which they outright compare him to Donald Trump. I couldn’t tell you if the Gossip Girl writers meant to write Chuck as their Trump analogue - I mean, they did invite Jared and Ivanka onto the show, after all - but the parallels are just too strong to ignore. All of which is to say, not only did Chuck Bass vote for Donald Trump, he held exclusive political fundraisers for him and was probably a substantial donor to his campaign. Now, did Chuck distance himself publicly over time as the political climate became increasingly caustic and public sentiment towards Trump plummeted even further? Perhaps, perhaps not. It really depends on if the board of Bass Industries felt like being connected to Trump was a liability or an asset - but privately, I imagine Chuck once again voted for him in 2020, because the one policy Donald Trump did effectively execute during his tenure in office was massive tax cuts for billionaires, and for someone like Chuck Bass, that’s the only political policy that really matters. He wouldn’t wear a red hat and wouldn’t be caught dead within sniffing distance of a MAGA rally and the hoi polloi, but dude is basically the image of what the kind of rich conservatives backing the Trump administration for personal gain look like. On the off chance that the distastefulness of it all got to be a little much for even Chuck post-2016, perhaps he might switch his vote to Bloomberg. But I highly doubt Chuck would be politically invested in anything other than his own wallet to such an extent that he wouldn’t vote for Trump, no matter how much it would no doubt completely infuriate Blair.

Dan Humphrey: As the unofficial king of the hipsters, Dan has been a Sanders supporter since before it was cool. Seriously, Bernie Sanders appeals to Dan intrinsically on every level - his policies, his rhetoric, even his aesthetic - the rumpled old man with wild hair wearing mittens and railing against the upper class is the sort of thing that’s basically political catnip for someone like Dan Humphrey. Not only would Dan vote for Sanders in both the 2016 and 2020 primaries, he’d go out and be one of the celebrities campaigning for him. This would definitely lead to him butting heads with Blair, and she would no doubt call him out on supporting someone like Sanders when Dan himself is now a millionaire, who made his money from writing stories about the upper class. The fact that in 2017 he apparently gets married to Serena, a billionaire heiress, and may or may not have been engaged to her back in 2016 when the Democratic primaries were happening might cause him a bit of cognitive dissonance, but really, just because he’s climbed up the socio-economic ladder now doesn’t mean his values have really changed, have they? (Debatable.) In any case, in both the 2016 and 2020 general elections, Dan would definitely vote for Clinton and Biden respectively - although he’d be significantly more disgruntled about it than Blair would be switching from Harris to Biden. I don’t think Dan would be a “Bernie bro” in the way that term is used, but he’d definitely chafe against Clinton’s past policy decisions, and would probably make some snippy Tweets about her during the election. Nevertheless, once it became clear that Trump was going to be the Republican nominee and was a serious threat, I think Dan would change his tone and start encouraging his fans and followers to vote for Clinton. Likewise, in 2020, Dan would probably become one of the Sanders supporters doing outreach for Biden, having become more politically pragmatic following the experience of living under the Trump administration.

Vanessa Abrams: Much like Dan, Vanessa is a progressive, although unlike Dan, Vanessa’s activism is more focused around specific issues and less around specific politicians. I can see Dan and Vanessa being in roughly the same place in 2016, and given that the only real choices were between Sanders and Clinton in the primaries (RIP to Martin O'Malley), Vanessa would no doubt go for Sanders. Whereas Dan might campaign for Sanders directly however, Vanessa would instead focus her time and resources around advocacy for specific causes that are important to her, like climate change and racial justice, and would probably use her platform as a filmmaker and documentarian to advance those causes. I could very much see her getting involved with movements like Black Lives Matter and organizations like the Sunrise Movement, and taking part in protests, marches, and sit-ins. When the 2020 Democratic primaries come around, I could see her possibly switching from Sanders to Warren for a while (and Dan would definitely argue with her about it if she did), but I can also see her switching back to Sanders after Warren amended her support for single-payer, “Medicare for All”. She’d definitely vote for Clinton and Biden in the generals, but not enthusiastically.

Nate Archibald: For someone whose family business is politics and who, in 2017, is apparently a candidate in the New York City mayoral election, Nate seems to be rather removed from politics. As Vanessa puts it in 02x19, “The only thing Nate’s ever voted for is American Idol.” Still, as Editor-in-Chief of The Spectator, Nate kind of has to have an opinion, and in that respect, I see him gravitating towards the type of center-left “establishment” candidates that he and his family would no doubt have close ties with. In the Gossip Girl universe, the Vanderbilts are portrayed as being a lot like the Kennedys, and I think Nate’s policies as a mayoral candidate would really reflect that. In 2016, he would vote for Hillary Clinton in both the primaries and the generals without much of a second thought - after all, she’s the obvious choice, and there’s no way a candidate like Donald Trump could actually beat her, right? Actually, optimistically, maybe that’s why Nate decides to jump into the mayoral race in 2017 - previously, he had been for all intents and purposes politically apathetic, but seeing someone as genuinely vile as Donald Trump ascend to the office of the presidency stirs him out of that apathy, and he wants to make a positive difference in the only way an incredibly privileged white man from a politically prominent family knows how. So he runs as a Kennedy-esque center left candidate, further left of someone like Hillary Clinton, but more moderate than someone like Elizabeth Warren - sort of like Kamala Harris, now that I think about it. I have no idea if he would actually be able to beat Bill de Blasio given the major incumbency advantage de Blasio would have, but who knows. Come the 2020 Democratic primaries, I think Nate would probably just vote for whoever he believed was most likely to beat Donald Trump. I don’t see him having any sort of clear preference - maybe he would gravitate towards Biden on the basis of him being the most established candidate, or maybe he would gravitate towards Harris on the basis of her campaigning as the “moderate progressive” candidate. I could also seeing him liking Andrew Yang, come to think of it. In any case, he would most definitely support Joe Biden in the generals. How involved he’d be in supporting him really depends on whether or not Nate actually gets elected to mayor - if he was the mayor, he’d definitely endorse him and probably donate to him, but I think he’d be too wrapped up in his own political responsibilities to really do much more than that. If, however, he lost the election and was still the Editor-in-Chief of The Spectator, I can see Nate getting more involved alongside the rest of his family, officially endorsing him in The Spectator, hosting political fundraisers for him, and maybe even campaigning for him. The Vanderbilts in the Gossip Girl universe (I have no idea what the family’s actual political beliefs are in real life) definitely seem to me like they’d be Biden supporters, and I imagine they’d use their political clout to try and get Biden in, and more importantly, Trump out.

Serena van der Woodsen: Oh Serena. Look, she knows it’s important, okay? It’s just, she’s been really busy lately, and she doesn’t really like to think about politics, and hey, remember that fundraiser she did with her mom for last month’s philanthropic cause du jour? Serena’s a Democrat, vaguely, but if you tried to really pin her down on her political beliefs she’d probably just change the topic. So who does she vote for in 2016? The truth is, she doesn’t. Not in the primaries, not in the general, not at all. She meant to, okay, Blair’s definitely been pestering her to send in her mail-in-ballot for weeks, but she just got distracted and forgot. Serena really strikes me as the kind of person who doesn’t enjoy thinking or talking about politics, save for perhaps a few specific issues, and she has a sense that everything will work itself out eventually and she doesn’t really need to participate. And then the 2016 election happens, and holy shit, she didn’t vote. Blair and Dan might have spent early 2016 bickering with each other over Clinton versus Sanders, but the one thing they can definitely agree on is “What the fuck, Serena?!?!” They both reminded her like, a million times, how could she possibly forget?! Serena feels really bad about it - she didn’t think it was such a big deal, she didn’t think Donald Trump could actually win! - and so she starts overcompensating whenever the topic of politics comes up, maybe even joins Vanessa at a few protests and marches, even though she’s still sort of clueless about the actual issues at hand. She does vote in the 2018 midterms, although only in the general election - straight blue ticket, all the way down. She takes a picture of herself at the voting booth wearing an “I Voted!” sticker and posts it on Instagram, tagging both Dan and Blair in the post (who already voted weeks ago using mail-in ballots, but it’s the thought that counts). Flash forward to 2020, and she really needs to make a decision about who to vote for in the primaries… but there’s just so many choices. Everything seems so scary and stressful and real in a way now that it didn’t back in 2016, and she can’t just ignore it and assume things will work out for the best like she did back then. So who does she vote for? Well, Serena always wins, so she votes for Biden. Conspiratorially, both Dan and Blair privately wonder if her voting for Biden isn’t on some cosmic level the reason for his unexpected victory, even if they know there’s no logical way that’s possible, right? But it would be such a Serena thing to do… In any case, Serena’s just happy her candidate won, and would probably host political fundraisers for him with her mom’s circle of philanthropic friends. Assuming she and Dan are still married at this point, she offers to help him do political outreach to Sanders supporters to get them to vote for Biden, which he sweetly dissuades her from given that most Sanders supporters would probably dislike her on principle.

So that’s how, in my opinion, the main cast would vote, ordered roughly in how confident I am about that analysis. You could make the argument that perhaps some characters would vote or act differently based on whether or not they’re dating or married at the time - like, would Chuck openly fundraise for Trump when Blair is a dyed-in-the-wool Clinton supporter if they’re married? (He totally would.) But I tried to consider them purely on the merits of their personalities and values, and not on the particularities of their situations at the time (with the exception of Nate, just because him being in office or not would obviously make a huge difference in regards to how politically involved he’s going to be).

I wish I put as much effort into my actual university essays as I did on Gossip Girl political analysis.

Okay, I’m gonna try to break down the fight choreography for that bit of the video where Orange and the quartet all get curbstomped by Dark Lord, because @k1ttyadventurer pointed out to me that DL hits Orange harder than the others even before the stabbing occurs and now that I’ve seen it I wans y’all to see too.

So let’s start with when Blue rushes in. This is probably gonna be just text because screencapping every individual point of contact is gonna get tedious real quick. 

So first, DL blocks both of Blue’s punches, before pulling Blue in by the wrist and dealing two kicks, first to the gut and then to the face. 

Green comes in with a flying kick, DL grabs Green by the leg and uses their own momentum against them to swing them around and throw them back into Yellow, who doesn’t even make it to DL because of this. 

Orange runs forward and seems to block DL’s first head kick, but DL either trips Orange or kicks them in the shin, and deals an elbow to their torso (not sure if it’s the back or the front, Orange seems to twist partway through the fall so it could even be the side).

Green and Blue attack simultaneously with a flurry of face-aimed hand strikes, which DL blocks all of, before grabbing both by the necks and slamming them backwards to the ground. 

DL jumps high enough to knee Yellow in the face, before grabbing Yellow’s arms and pulling them into a second knee, this time to the gut. 

Orange attempts to attack from behind, but DL blocks their swipe. DL punches Orange in the torso before uppercutting them twice (thought it could also have just been a second, higher torso punch followed by a single uppercut), elbowing them in the face, grabbing their front and pulling them into a headbutt, then yeeting them out of the immediate fight. 

When we next see the fight, DL blocks Yellow’s two punches and dodges Yellow’s attempt to trip him, before punching Yellow in the face and tripping them himself. DL dodges Blue’s head kick, kicking them in the head instead. Green rushes in and punches twice, DL dodges the first and I can’t actually tell from the angle what the outcome of the second was, but either way Green got close enough in their attempt for DL to lift them single-handedly by the jaw and throw them to the ground.

Yellow tries several more face-aimed hand strikes, which DL dodges all of, before punching Yellow in the face, then the torso, face again, torso again, then I can’t actually tell where his fifth attack is aimed because Yellow is falling out of the frame by this point, but afterwards he hoists Yellow up by the neck with one hand, and proceeds to hold Yellow there for the remainder of the fight. Yellow is seen kicking and grabbing at the hand holding them up throughout, with no effect. The effect is as though they were being choked. 

DL brings out his virus katar for the first time since stabbing Red, and makes to stab Yellow, but Green grabs for his arm, holding it down. DL twists said arm and stabs Green in the torso.

Blue charges DL, leading with their head and shoulders, and when this proves ineffective Blue hits DL in the face twice, without much power behind either hit. DL shakes Green off his katar and stabs Blue in the back.

Yellow bats at DL’s head with both hands, we see DL pull his blade out of Blue, and when the camera is next on the group he has already stabbed Yellow in the face. 

DL stabs Orange from behind. This weakens Orange enough to bring them to their knees, but doesn’t immediately kill them, so DL lifts his blade up with Orange still impaled on it. Orange throws his arm back and makes contact with DL’s head. DL grabs Orange by the offending wrist, flips them over while they’re still impaled on his katar, then pulls the blade out and stabs Orange again through the same wound but through the front this time. Orange shakily punches DL in the face. 

DL grabs Orange by the ‘hair’ and throws them out into open space, where he proceeds to slash at them eighteen times in rapid succession, before stabbing them from behind with both katars, throwing them off the blades (while pulling the blades both out and apart, likely widening the wound) into the cliffside, and pinning them there with a final double-stab.

435. Daily Press, August 1, 1980

Okay, so originally, I was going to do a bit on each August 1st of the 1980s using my local newspaper, Daily Press. There was so much intrigue and drama just for 1980 alone. 

Don’t put off shoveling the walk. Your wife might sue you. 

“we smoke dope and drink alcohol until 4am!”

If the term “ooh, so edgy” was around in 1980, this dude would be it.

I had never heard of this place in Portsmouth before, so I looked it up. They closed just a few years later, in 1985.

How is that couch comfortable. They still sell that couch for $850. A similar desk costs about $780 today. geez louise. The Coliseum Mall location lasted well into the 90s. 

I made this one on the website and it wound up being nearly $1500. Maybe since I work in a library and I’m broke all the time, that seems so expensive.

Dang, my Newmarket North Mall history is rusty, I think this later became K&K toys (oof awful name), and then KayBee. Then dead in the mid 90s like the remainder of the mall. But look at that sweet, sweet Newmarket North logo.

sure enough, L.A.’s flag flew in Moscow.

Days before this baseball player, J. R. Richard was about to have a stroke, the media didn’t believe his complaint of a “dead arm”. Maybe because I was in a mood the day I made this screencaps due to the Olympics, but man I had a lot of Simone Biles feels reading this. The way some pundits tore her up last week.

This next story is just straight out of Matlock or something.  A stagehand threw Hagnes down an airshaft after a confrontation inside an elevator during intermission. 1 Last I could see, he’s been denied parole every two years since 2001. 2

Soo, this Sheraton in Hampton was torn down last year after being downgraded to a Quality Inn and then becoming abandoned for years. A few days/weeks/i forgot after it was torn down rats began appearing at the Target across the street! The food section had to be shut down for two weeks.  There were rumors that the rats came from the old hotel, but the city manager said “there was no evidence of that”. 3

It seems like back then, there were way more fun things to do at night in Hampton. I mean a seafood buffet at a fancy hotel.

When Hampton first got Steak and Ale, it had to be called Jolly Fox due to some Virginia law about not having alcohol in a restaurants name.

Guess what Milton. Nobody is going to be caught dead wearing that visor. I looked up the 127 Fox Hill Road location and looks like it was where Kindercare was when I was a kid?? Um. ok.

stupid question time, why was the dentist buying gold? Was the receptionist assessing the gold? Was the dentist doing it in-between patients?

“Will you go to the homecoming dance with me?”

This is the greatest day of my life.

Well, I’ve finally achieved the ending I set out for in Lovers of Aether! I had downloaded it onto my phone a month or so ago, but actually put off playing it because I was actually fearing that, despite my greatest efforts, that Clairen would reject my offer of going to the homecoming dance with me. But the other day, I decided to resume up the game I had going, and as it turns out, she said yes— on my first run! It’s like we really were meant to be!

I probably had the single luckiest first run in Lovers of Aether history, too: I aced the History Test (Turns out reading up on Absa’s and Etalus’s lore on the RoA website was a smart move), aced the English presentation (Which, to my understanding, is random chance, considering the player ‘didn’t even know there was a presentation’... neither did Sylvanos) and got a perfect score on the Computer Lab minigame! Doing perfectly on everything is the baseline for having Absa to even consider going to the homecoming dance with you (And even then she can turn you down!), so I’ll have to reload my file and see if she says yes as well.

But yeah, having achieved the ending that I was going for feels really good— and hearing Clairen say I’m cute feels even better! Now that I’ve got my romantic F/O’s ending, I’m thinking about trying to ask the remainder of my platonic F/Os to the homecoming dance: Zetterburn should be easy, since he asks the player to be his date by default, and Absa’s obviously going to be the toughest. Only time will tell! In the meantime, I’d like to share a few screencaps from my first route that I appreciate— some are funny, and some hold a special place in my heart for a variety of reasons. Let’s take a look at a few!

This moment happens at the start of the final period, the Computer Lab segment. The entire situation is absolutely hilarious to me, and this was one of the few reasons why Elliana became a favorite of mine back when I first got into Rivals/Lovers of Aether. It really makes you wonder why she’s using her face to type rather than her tail. I mean, she’s a long snake, so I feel like using her tail would be easier, but I’m not one, so I can’t speak for her. The implications this raises are still quite funny!

Then there’s this moment, directly before the moment you’ve been working up toward: when you ask your crush to the homecoming dance. Zetterburn asks you who you’re hoping to take, and (I’m assuming) if you choose anyone but him, he’ll give this as a response. It’s a really cute line, and it’s funny how Zetterburn breaks the fourth wall in a way by bringing ships into the equation. Maybe he was the one who thought of the ship name ‘PsyClairen?’ That’d be so wholesome!

Finally, there’s this exchange before the English presentation. By choosing to talk to Elliana before class, she tells you she’s looking for a tattoo (!), and when you as the player ask if her parents let her, she says that it’s not as permanent as it would be on anyone else, considering she can just shed a bad tattoo off— she is a snake, after all. She then asks for your opinion on which tattoo you think she should get, and while I don’t remember what my choice was at the top of my head, this was the response I got from it. I love me some platonic F/O validation (Or any F/O validation for that matter) so this screencap is very special to me. Thus ends my Lovers of Aether appreciation post... for now! If I choose to go back and unlock more endings, I’ll definitely make another post like this one with some more screencaps that I like. Hopefully this post has made for a good read— I love Clairen so much 🖤❤️🖤
