"no, you're not." soonyoung takes a few steps, turning in a circle once more. you're clearly not in the kitchen, not draped across the couch, and it's too quiet on your end of the call for you to be out on the balcony. "i've checked everywhere for you."

he pauses, eyeing the small closet in the entryway. its crowded with boxes and other things, but... he can't resist making his way over, slowly pulling the door open enough to peek inside. just as he expected, it's still cluttered. the two of you really should go through it all one day...

"i'm in bed? i told you," you pause long enough to yawn, "i was taking a nap after work..."

he furrows his brows, already making his way back to the bedroom. "i told you, i already looked in there--" he opens the bedroom, looking around the dark room before flicking the light on. again, he doesn't see you. "is this a prank? i'm hungry and i thought we were going out--"

you sit up from underneath your mountain of blankets, and soonyoung laughs. the sound echoes on your phone for a moment as he ends the call, already making his way over with a loving "hi, baby," to pepper kisses on your face. you still look like you just woke up, squinting at him as you drop your phone back onto the bed and lean into him.

next time, you'll take a video. just so you can tease him a little over it... and maybe relisten to that laugh a couple times when you're having your hardest days.

I found out about tma from my friend because he asked me to make an edit of michael distortion and got into it a few months later. I LOVE TMA. I mostly listened to the whole thing three times when I was mostly offline because I have the 200 episodes downloaded on YouTube and now I'm finding out that there's some stuff I missed, there's bloopers, q&a and I was in the wiki because i wanted to see how many times the admiral was mentioned and theres one what the ghost episode? IM GOING INSANE. I love tma. I think it's rotting my brain... it's everywhere, it's in my veins. I need to know everything but when I try to search these things up on YouTube it only shows me rusty quill gaming which I will be watching later but where do I find the other stuff where is the best place to listen to tma and find every extra lore even if it's just the tiniest squeeze of lore? I need to know y'all really did an amazing job with tma, I don't think I'm ever going to get tired of listening to it. I need to relisten to it before hell— I mean... School starts again. Why I think Klaus the IT guy is behind everything.

i just came up with this theory while relistening (… again) and i feel like i might be onto something here. bear with me, i don’t know how long this post is going to be.

i have several pieces of evidence for this theory.

1. the emails

the mysterious emails coming from a gibberish email address have appeared quite a few times now; sam and gwen have both received several emails with information they were looking for. sam got info on the magnus institute, gwen got incriminating accounts of things lena did. someone is definitely trying to … help them (the emails eventually led to sam’s downfall, and i’m sure gwen won’t be very okay in season 2 either.)

i think the working theory most of the fandom seems to have about the emails is that it’s jon and martin (and perhaps jonah) sending the emails from inside of the computer, but i’m not too sure (partially because i don’t even know if i still believe it’s them in there, but that’s something for another post). i think there is a real chance it could be him; he’s an IT guy after all and i guess he could have a way to find compromising data? i don’t know but i believe it would make sense.

2. colin

this is an excerpt from episode 19, and while the mercury/sulfur/alchemy references are, again, something for another post, i found two things in particular very striking.

firstly, “he sees too much already.” colin is clearly talking about someone in particular, one person who presumably has control of the cameras, computers, and phones. not an organisation, not multiple people, he. singular.

while this could be anyone, the next sentence does make it clear to me who he is talking about (if my theory is correct, at least). “doing mummy and daddy stasi proud, i’m sure”.

for anyone who doesn’t know, the stasi (or Staatssicherheitsdienst = state security service) was the secret police of east germany who would spy on people by, among other things, wiretapping them and going through their mail - and the wiretapping part obviously reminds me a LOT of what’s going on at the oiar. now, this reference would make a lot of sense if it was in fact klaus who is behind things because, as we remember, he is in fact german. so the “mummy and daddy” part makes an awful lot of sense for colin to say.

and again, klaus is an IT guy, so i think he would definitely be able to hack the cameras and phones to spy on the oiar crew.

3. the lena video

the first (and last) appearance klaus had so far was in the video that was sent to gwen (by a gibberish email address; possibly one he made himself) where lena attempts to shoot him. while we don’t know the reasoning behind the attempted assassination, we know that lena is not an evil woman, we know she wouldn’t kill anyone without proper reason. as of episode 30, we know she only does the things she deems necessary, and if she felt like she had to get rid of klaus, something probably did happen with him; something that made her believe he could be dangerous.

i don’t know why klaus would spy on them, i don’t know what his motives or ulterior intentions could be, but i think it is likely he has something to do with it. let me know what you think of my theory or if you have any additional evidence :D

ETM ACT 1 RANTS

So, I thought, since ACT 1 of ETM is now officially done,,, why not talk abt it? Y'know, for fun? Cause I have some thoughts😇 Let's begin, shall we?

TROY SAGA

I have a love/hate relationship with 'The Horse and The Infant' tbh, like YEAHHH NEO AVENGE THE HELL OUTTA ACHILLES!!! But also oh Jeez, Zeus wtf man. Also when I replayed the whole ACT I was really scared that it was playing 'Monster', since they start with the same opening😭😭 (And yes it was on shuffle)

I FUCKING LOVE THE VOCALS IN 'JUST A MAN' Like oh meh Gods who possessed Jorge to sing like that, holy moly (hehehe refference). But yeah, very heartbreaking song, especially when that "when does a man become a monster?" part hits. AND THE "FORGIVE ME"S😭😭

In 'Full Speed Ahead' I love how Ody says "Polites!" cuz like THAT'S HIS BESTIE!!! YAYYY :D Also, I saw a tiktok that was depicting the last part (when Ody tells Polites to get ready cuz they're going over to that island, and Eury is like we don't know what to expect) as the trio with the 'Pessimistic Realist'(Eury), the 'Realist who doubles as a Sunshine Protector'(Ody) and, ofc, the 'Sunshine'(Polites) ((And Ody lowkey becomes a mass murderer when Polites gets hurt))

I swear 'Open Arms' will forever be my fav song on this Saga, I just LOVE how Polites is like a supportive bsf to Ody and is trying to get him to approach the world differently. The Lotus Eaters were probably so happy to get them to face Polyphemus so that they won't have to worry abt him

I hate & love at the same time how Ody shows one act of kindness and Athena's like "🤨📸 Are you slacking off work??? Nahhh, not on my watch." But also the hopeful "Goddess and man, bestest of friends!" and then the broken "Okay :')" break me everytime cuz like Ody really just wants to get close(platonically) to Athena😭😭

THE CYCLOPS SAGA

I hate how Polites is like "I can't believe there's so many sheep here, just for us! :D" like buddy, do NOT believe it😭 Also I believe in the headcannon that Polyphemus was really about to let them go before Ody hit him with the "Eye to Eye" verse

Didn't realise that in the opening of 'Survive', the ensemble sings the sylables of "POLYPHEMUS" before a video pointed it out (I believe the name was 'Epic: The Musical but only when someone's name is said' and it had the opening of 'Survive'). Also can we just agree that the broken "captain" in 'Survive' and the several "CAPTAIN!"s in 'Ruthlessness' are gonna haunt Ody forever😭🙏

I truly believe that in 'Remember Them', Ody was really about to just leave before Athena showed up and he decided to reveal his name, home address, and social security number to one of his enemies��‍♂️🤦‍♂️ But can you blame him tho?? Like I find it pretty reasonable to let your defeated enemy know who they messed it, so that they won't fuck with you or anyone you hold close again.

Even before 'My Goodbye', when Athena said "don't dissapoint me" in 'Warrior of the Mind' I was like "Then don't be dissapointed! How 'bout that???" (As you can tell I'm fed up at Athena's reasoning for leaving Ody. And then she has the AUDACITY to call Telemachus her friend and then disregard viewing Ody the same way🤨📸)

THE OCEAN SAGA

I relistened to 'Storm' during a school roadtrip, when it was raining heavily, and LITERALLY AFTER the song was done, the rain stopped😨😨 Also love the addition of trumpets to show that it was Poseidon who started the storm(cuz trumpets are his signature instrument if I remember correctly)

I feel like 'Luck Runs Out' is heavily skipped troughout the musical, but it's a really cool song that just radiates "Odysseus No. Odysseus YES" energy

'Keep Your Friends Close' is my fav song in this Saga bc I really love whoever sings Aeolus' role😍😍 Also the "Everything changed since Polites" line made me audibly and visually scream😭 Like okay, BOLD😤😤

I will always laugh at the "ALL I GOTTA DO IS OPEN THIS BAG" "WHAT" part😂😂 Like he just lost 557 men and he just BOLTS IMMEDIATELY. And I was really confused when Poseidon said "I mean you totally could've avoided all this, had you just killed my son", cuz like, wasn't it in the prophecy that ody was meant to blind Polyphemus, not kill him?? (This is not meant to show hate to this specific part, only to show hate to Poseidon, bc he gave PTSD to my fav boy and was wrong at the same time😤)

THE CIRCE SAGA

I immediately started crying at the start bc the opening instrumental sounds like the "Watch where the birds fly, they will lead us to land. There we'll hunt for food, my second-in-command" in 'Full Speed Ahead' and it really shows that now there's just the two of them, Ody and Eury, 'cause they lost Polites(whom I'm still mourning). Also the "What" and the "Damn" Ody says during Eury's explaination are giving me life😭🙏

I saw in an animatic of 'Wouldn't You Like' by Ximena Natzel on YT that at the last chorus Hermes was just throwing Ody around in the air and I feel like the "Oh-woah"s Ody sings are him going along with whatever Hermes is doing and he's enjoying himself🥺 (But not for long)

I have no idea what to say for 'Done For' other than I think it took over the entire fandom when it released on Feb 14th. I love how Circe immediately knows that Hermes gave Ody the Molly flower and Ody's like "Alr ya caught me, but hey, Imma still defeat you"

I also don't know what to say about "There Are Other Ways" other than the "Or maybe the world will need a puppeteer more!" part is making me question my sexuality😳 (ofc I won't steal Talya from Jay but I'm just saying). Oh also the "12 long years" part definitely took over the fandom at that point😭

THE UNDERWORLD SAGA

I made the BIGGEST mistake of listening to this Saga on a school roadtrip (the same one I was on when relistening to 'Storm') and almost CRIED MY HEART OUT when I heard both Polites and Anticlea's parts😭😭 there's also a sound on TT where it first shows Polites' part in 'Open Arms' and then in 'The Underworld' and I'm crying so hard😭😭😭😭

I love Mason's voice when playing Tiresias so much ong. Also: "Who?" Odysseus asked calmly. LIKE FOOL IT'S YOU!!!!

I love the song 'Monster' so much, mainly for the fact that Ody's asking himself if the other beings they encountered along the way feel as guilty as he does. I also feel like Astyanax is just vibing to the song and Hector's like "That's literally the guy who killed you???" And he's like "Womp womp. This song's fire!!" (Cringe, Ik, but you can't stop me)

Album Review: The Newer Stuff (1989)

Leave it to Michael to casually divide up his remarkable music catalog into “the newer stuff” and “the older stuff," especially after his long track record of giving albums such strange and creative names. These two compilation albums were released in ‘89 and ‘91 respectively in an attempt to - I don’t know, consolidate his work? Archive recent tracks to keep them from being lost to time? Or maybe he just wanted to give his fans something nice; between the Monkees reunion in ‘86 and the wide variety of production enterprises he was involved with, I understand why he didn’t have the time to devote to an entirely new and themed album. As much as I would have loved a fully ‘80s fluff, pop, and rock album from him, I’m content with the knowledge that he was at least trying to take a break from something he’d done so consistently for a decade and a half. 

“The Older Stuff” is nothing we haven’t heard before, with him scouring his first five albums for the biggest hits and laying them down in order so that you can listen to him evolve from pre-1970 to 1974 in just over an hour. I won’t be reviewing those again. However, “The Newer Stuff” includes several songs, some featured in Television Parts, which never made it onto an official release. Since this is a compilation album, it’s hard to critique the overarching sound and themes of songs that were written and recorded at vastly different times, but I can walk through each track and provide my unsolicited opinions, which is all I ever do here.

“Total Control” speaks to me directly (although maybe I shouldn’t be proud of that.) The lyrics are snappy, the bass and guitar of the verses economical and focused. What doesn’t particularly suit my taste are the chorus harmonies, but that’s okay. Here, finally, we see his strange singing/speaking emphasis being used for good. I suppose in a sense, as an innovator, his subconscious had just realized he was to go on to make an array of tongue-in-cheek tunes where this style was necessary, and his songwriting had yet to catch up; it’s just a shame he was doing it on the tail end of The Prison. Altogether, “Total Control” is one of my favorites and it’s the perfect closing song for the Television Parts: Home Companion 

The Newer Stuff is a little disjointed, unsurprisingly - on an album where every song is in the same vein, I think I would’ve loved “Tanya.” Like Tropical Campfires was to the early ‘90s, songs from The Newer Stuff shine as a product of their time - the ‘80s. This song is okay, if a bit on the predictable side. I wish I knew where the song was going - Tanya’s name is mentioned again in “Formosa Diner,” so there must have been some overarching plotline he had in mind that I wish we could see fully fleshed out. I think the lyrics are good, and the sound is nice. That being said, my manager’s name is Tanya and I’m just annoyed that he didn’t name this song after me instead. 

“I’ll Remember You” is not necessarily my favorite song in terms of composition or execution, but I love the idea behind it so much that nearly everything can be forgiven - particularly the “floating Beatle heads in the sky” part of the music video… everything but the bits where he desperately tries to fit George and Ringo into the song when there are just not enough syllables in the line to do it. Whatever - the heart behind it, and the story of having wanted to show this song to John, but not feeling like it was complete enough until, well, it was too late? “John, my friend,” and all ills are forgiven. And the music itself is good, letting the lyrics shine as they deserve to. 

“Formosa Diner” goes shockingly hard for its subject matter - relistening always has me stunned despite not initially remembering this as a personal hit. I honestly don’t have much to say about this except for the fact that I think it’s nice how obsessed with diners he was around this time. 

Though I haven’t covered either album yet, if you crossed Tropical Campfires with The Garden in the effort to produce one single and send it back in time as a predecessor, you would probably get something like “Dreamer.” I pity its treatment - it definitely deserved a place on a full album, which we sadly didn’t get in the ‘80s. Too busy with movies, and that dumb reunion tour…!

“Eldorado to the Moon” is a brilliant little song that never fails to please. Former Monkee songwriter Bill Martin wrote it, so the lyrics are cheesy in a fun way, and the music video, which was designed in parallel, is excellent. There’s even a tasteful little bit of cold war propaganda thrown in there for spice!

Listening to “Tahiti Condo” is rather like watching a car crash. I don’t like it but I can't look away. I’m pretty sure, at least, that he had fun recording it - that’s enough for me, I guess?

“Chow Mein & Bowling” does always sound just lovely. I’m hot and cold with this one - sometimes I love the lyrics and the premise, and sometimes I don’t. It’s a really good crooner to listen to though, and I always love when he coughs as a gimmick in a song - sue me! I think the Television Parts version is better than the album release since it goes on for three more minutes with increasing dramatics but I understand why they faded it out early here.

“Magic,” “Cruisin’,” “Light,” and “Carioca” - objectively the shortlist of Infinite Rider songs you should listen to, these are positioned after the newest of the new on “The Newer Stuff.” “Carioca” (along with “Cruisin’”) was remastered for this album, and I really think it makes the song twice as good. A very subtle and sensual heaviness was added as an undertone in a way that perfectly suits the scene set by the song, and the percussion and vocal echoes are reined in a bit so that they enhance the song rather than smothering it - every instrument has the chance to shine, though none as much as Michael’s own voice. (As a side note - serious critics please look away - the way his voice dips at the end of “on a beach by a palm tree” - helloo!)

“Rio” and “Casablanca Moonlight” - I think it’s a disservice to Radio Engine to, by omission, say that the other songs did not deserve a rerelease, but to fit the late 80s sound of this album i understand why they unthematic slashed songs that were ~12 years old. Still, it’s a shame. 

Conclusion:

“The Newer Stuff” was a strategic move for Michael in the late ‘80s, and an appreciated method of compiling songs that you might miss out on otherwise, had you not been watching his movements in the video-sphere. It is very interesting to me that it was released, not in tandem with, but two years before “The Older Stuff” – he really wanted to promote his new image and show off what he was proud of now, well into his forties, with perhaps new and wildly different musical ideas on the horizon, instead of shelling out another release of music from his twenties and thirties that didn’t even do very well during its time. Eighties Michael is a difficult beast to understand - but these songs are fresh and fun and it’s a joy, as always, to listen to them.

Some part of them could feel manipulative in a way. They know what strings are being pulled, they know the cards being dealt. That’s how I portray them anyway. It’s makes theirs and Blake’s dynamic more complex and all the more better in my mind 👀

Two more headcanons:

3. Both Ezra and Sabine have their fair share of scars all around their bodies and they definitely share soft and tender kisses over them ✨💜 I am a feral maams over scar kisses, a constant reminder to one another that they are still beautiful and deserving of so much love regardless of how many mark their skin, marks that tell a story of how they have survived so much and are alive 🥺. Sabine loves Ezra’s cheeks scars and often kisses them softly and strokes them gently when she cups his cheek.

Same goes for Ezra on Sabine and the scars on her, gently kissing her lightsaber wound or the many received during their missions as teens with the Ghost. They also kiss some of the wounds inflicted during their individual rough times, such as after Malachor for Ezra or after Sabine was shunned by her family for building the Duchess.

If there is one detail I love adding on Ezra and Sabine is silvery, healed scars 💜🧡 still beautiful people who have made it after so much pain and are alive and loving each other’s beautiful imperfections 🥹

4. They both suffer from insomnia, Sabine more so than Ezra, especially after all her continued losses. Ezra definitely had it bad after Malachor, perhaps even when his parents were taken away, he had his fair share of sleepless nights due to nightmares and basically feeding and maintaining himself to survive. The first time he slept comfortably again was after a few days with the Ghost crew. Same for Sabine when she joined, I can’t imagine how many sleepless night they may have gone through trying to survive on their own, especially with Sabine after being left behind by Ketsu.

After Malachor, I know Ezra had it worse especially with having the holocron in his space for so long and I’m sure he had many sleepless nights evading Thrawn and the bandits and the witches while on Peridea 😭. Sabine definitely had her sleepless nights build up again, especially with losing Ezra and Kanan within the same time frame, it must have left her with anguish and restless nights (especially knowing how he left the second holo for her to have and apologize for leaving, reassuring her, fully aware of her abandonment issues). Hmm, in thinking about it, I remembered that I really like “White Winter Hymnal” by Pentatonix; I can’t recall where I heard it originally, it may have been a Warrior Cats Multi Animator Project. Also in relistening to it yesterday, i remembered “omg I was trying to make an animation with my og wolf warriors with the song !” 😭 and I never finished it! But also made an ‘spooky’ edit with a particular part of the lyrics because like—

“And I turned 'round and there you go / And Michael, you would fall and turn the white snow red / As strawberries in the summertime”

unreal unearth first impressions

OKAY REALISING I AM RELISTENING TO THIS ALBUM FOR THE HUNDREDTH TIME JUST TODAY ACCIDENTALLY SO IIM GONNA QUICKLY WRITE DOWN MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS BC IM ALREADY BEGINNING TO ACTUALY THINK ABOUT THINGS AND LOOK AT LYRICS AND READ OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINIONS, so here is an only slightly tainted not quite first impression of unreal unearth from me (obviously the singls ive heard before but)

de selby (part 1) i turned on the album sitting in the absolute dark, ten minutes past twelve at night, this started playing, cue instant tears. i think i was just hit with 'this is the most beautiful thing ive ever heard' and i wasn't expecting that from de selby 1 for some reason. and when the irish kicked in that just. no words, just crying and im what two minutes in. i wasn't even thinking about what he'd been saying about connemara in the dark and mirrors of people you used to know (i'd seen him talk about it, but purposefully skipped the actual song when it came up online) it was just. de selby 1. and the part as gaeilge

-> you know i gotta say wiwi. i have to. that character was Made For Me i swear to GOD . genuinely i cannot think about prime defenders season 2 episode 39 without feeling physically sick bc i love it so much. its the only one i havent relistened to since i heard it the first time. i KNOW its gonna make me cry again so i genuienly have not touched it even though theres things in there i need to hear again for character research. his arc is so like. narratively satisfying in a way that hits me so fucking deep to my core in an extremely personal way. and like. there were definitely some Decisions that i was REALLY ANNOYING about hating when they were brought up because im used to media with bad storytelling/creators that do not care about their characters but. looking back on it i would not change a single thing about it. i love you wiwi so much.

last week was bandcamp friday! i last-minute got a few things: finally got sammy rae's "good life" and "let's throw a party", and preordered their newest album "something for everybody". i still need to buy my ticket for their concert near to me this fall. then i got sad snack's full discography for like $5 (the no children ska cover lol), the altogether's "when we were kids" which has been a go-to comfort album for me for a bit, shakey graves "deadstock" anthology, and finally the dear hunter "antimai".

i've been back on the podcast grind, just casually keeping up with stuff like mbmbam sawbones lpotl etc as they come out. most recent mbmbam (episode....730?? jesus christ) has some REALLY funny bits, notably towards the beginning where the cincinnati tornado sirens were being tested and griffin made a comment about the air raid sirens going off again and travis was like ?? dude i'm not in the fucking blitz??? it was very good. there was something else towards the end of the episode that also made me laugh out loud -- oh yes i just went and relistened to the last minute and it's the wish at the end, "i wish my cat would know what it means when i flip him off". so fucking true griffin. i was considering going to one of their tour dates but unfortunately they will be in the nearest city to me when i'm out of town for my second wedding of the fall. ah well

my friend mostly played it but i did do a little bit, it was lots of fun. there was a very funny bit where friend, getting really in the mindset of Being Cat, pulled out a battery pack from a fan and was like "hehe i'm gonna drop it off the roof!" and did it before we could stop her, we were like wait we might need that to solve a puzzle -- but the answer was no it was fine, which is good, because it ended up dropped on a completely inaccessible rooftop ledge below, oopsie.

misc: THE PRELIMINARY EXAM DOCUMENT EXISTS. rejoice. however this comes with the caveat that i don't have a date set yet because i am in the trenches of trying to solve a Very specific problem with my software. the solution is a complete unknown to me as of now. it is in the stage of "putting key words in quotation marks in google scholar and going down the list emailing all the authors like heyyyy help please", which is scary. at least one other person has done something semi-similar - in fact they have my advisor in their acknowledgements thanking them for her editing help lol - so i'm hoping i'm nearly there. because once that is resolved i can FINALLY set a date, which, assuming i pass, also sets the earliest point at which i can give my thesis defense! scary!!

the russian sleep experiment was, you guessed it, an experiment. from what i remember the experiment was conducted during a war to test endurance. the prisoners from said war were told they would be set free if they followed through with the experiment. the prisoners were locked in a room and the scientists leaked this gas in the room to keep the prisoners from sleeping, without having sleep the prisoners go insane and start to kill eachother

the russian sleep experiment is honestly my favorite creepypasta. i read it a few years ago and then shane and ryan read it on are you scared and i was hooked. i feel like beomgyu would really like it.
