My version of Quaker plain dress.
Shirt: Thrifted
Kerchief: handmade
Jumper dress: Custom garment from Graceful Threads
Necklace and earrings: made by local artists
It’s been a slow transition away from fast fashion for me, but it’s feels very right in my heart.

Our Lady is no more, nor less, both different and the same, a chimera which changes with every approach, a ruby filled with innumerable facets, a room full of dancing girls all fitted with veils.
Approaching Babalon: Essays for the Abyss by Georgia van Raalte
“How can a goddess so obviously sexy, sexual, sexed, and sexualised, ever ask for or expect modesty? Doesn’t that defeat the point?” Is the question that briefly flit across my mind when the thought of religious modesty bubbled up from devotional time with Babalon. It wasn’t a question that stuck around for long – Babalon is a Woman of many surprises. After reflection it makes more than a small bit of sense…especially when considering Her inverse as Saturn the destroyer, a cycle ender, a ‘mother’ that destroys everything she creates. Veiling for grief and loss, modesty in the everyday to heighten ritual and devotional nudity, and veiling & modesty as means of control over who can see/Know me are just the tip of the iceberg.
Babalon’s veiling is a means of control over Herself. When she has been ravaged and violated by the eyes of greedy men for decades, treated as an object and cash cow, someone to be summoned and wishes, workings, and gnosis demanded of Her. When She covers Herself in robes and veils spun from dawn and dusk, and sits upon her Abyssal throne further cloaked in shadow, She regains sovereignty over Herself. In this, control over Her image, Babalon becomes once again the only person with the power to reveal Herself. We, of course, already know the opposites held in Her – accepting all and refusing none, and yet also ruthless in her wrath against those who affront Her. Welcoming the reverent and violently rejecting the disrespectful.
Returning to the idea of devotional and religious modesty in Her honour – it can also be understood as a means to reflect the teachings and gnosis found through Her towards an uninitiated world. The knowledge of how powerful allowing yourself to be deeply perceived in ritual nudity while maintaining modesty in the day to day is one consideration. The power of ‘showing it all’ is balanced by the power in direct denial that modesty and veiling offers.
The manner of veiling and modesty will, naturally, be something deeply unique and personal – as it already is in a lot of contexts, cultures, and religions. It will be something I explore slowly and with careful steps to ensure I continue to feel empowered in line with Babalon’s energy and current.

can we talk about the sexualization of nuns and how odd that is? like sexualizing a group of women who literally dedicated their entire life to modesty just feels so wrong, i'm not a religious person but sexualizing people who literally try their hardest to stay away from that is not okay T-T /gen

Lately, i've been really considering the idea of starting to use a veil. I'm not particularly religious or anything (i do belive in god and i do admire Jesus; not to mention my huge interest in faith and religion); i'm not muslim, nor jewish, not catholic, nor a pagan, nothing; but i do like modesty in myself and i really like how veils looks.
The things is that i don't want to disrespect anyone from any religion or faith, so i tried to look for information about different types of veiling (so i can be respectful about it), but all the info that came up is about wedding veils!!! And i don't really know where to look. I tried searching in reddit, but there isn't one specific subreddit about veiling in general (though there is a modesty one that i'll be seeing).
My other problem is also surrounding the fact that i'm not a particularly feminine person (i'm rather androgynous, or i like to think so), so i was also wondering if there were any masc or androgynous types of veiling, though i wouldn't mind using feminine ones.
I guess my objective with this post is to see if there is any person out there who could provide me with information about different types of veiling!! I would really appreciate it :)))

i'm just happy that when playing inq i saw that the trevelyans are a noble family noted for their piety and service to the chantry and eventually said 'got it. so the trevelyans quietly have the long-term goal of controlling at least 1 of the circles and eventually installing one of their own on the sunburst throne'. it took me a second to get fun with it but eventually i got there

By the standards of the world, we lead simple lives, keeping to what is plain and useful, treating modesty as a virtue, guarding against undue involvement in temporal affairs, and striving to speak truth at all times. We also see room for improvement with fulfilling promises, our use of technology and overinvesting in activities that can distract us from a personal connection with God. We meet these challenges by setting daily times of Scripture reading, silent worship and prayer. We pray for God’s priorities with our time, strength to fulfill our promises and wisdom to use technology wisely. In the words of one Friend: “I pray each day to release what hinders me from hearing and following the way of the Lord.” Our faith makes us who we are. Therefore, we seek to make our faith a part of our daily lives, striving to be true to be what we are led to be.

Ok another possibly controversial take, if you are going to a holy place, you should dress appropriately. Like yes, you can dress alternative (I'm personally alt) however I wouldn't go into a cathedral/church/holy place wearing upside down crosses, rosaries (unless for prayer), overly revealing clothing, things depicting satan etc. this one is especially for a lot of (mostly younger) alternative people, going to places like graveyards or cathedrals is fine, but be respectful. Yes the architecture is nice, yes it might look "aesthetic" but it's still a holy place of worship and you should treat it as such. I'm saying this as a Satanist but who has (some) religious trauma, and comes from a very religious family, just because something doesn't align with your belief system doesn't mean you shouldn't be respectful.
This post was brought to you by me going to a cathedral (to send a prayer for a few people and to look) and seeing multiple people messing about or wearing revealing clothing (talking- short shorts, fishnets, very low cut tops).

For what you’ve been blessed with in your life and continue to be blessed with by the Devine, give it back in charity ten fold. Even if you are not rolling in riches yet , your good health, the roof over your head, the job you have are all small blessings. Charity doesn’t have to be a big to do, it can be as simple as volunteering, sharing a go fund me, speaking up for the voiceless, giving a homeless person a few dollars or buying them a meal.
All your efforts will be rewarded (Mashallah [god has willed it]) in mind body soul and desire. Your gratitude and grace makes the angels sing.

I do Not mean this in a weird puritan way. But why on earth are all clothes So short nowadays?? I couldn’t find a single pair of mid thigh shorts in 3 different stores I went to and struggled to find shirts without uncomfortably deep cleavage just on a practical level. Is there a fabric shortage? Am I missing on trends? Most people I know and see don’t wear the clothing styles I see sold and I cannot understand it.

Moralizing clothing and how you dress also isn't good or healthy
Even if they're not "forcing" people to dress a certain way, they're still going to internalize how those around them talk about people who dress in ways they don't approve of vs people who dress the "right" way (modesty culture is a looming presence in a lot of religions, especially, though not exclusively, over women)
not to be anti-religious but i do wonder if teaching children that they are innately flawed and sinful is, perhaps, not a healthy worldvi
