Christianity is not in terminal decline in Britain, whatever the census might say
Christianity is not in terminal decline in Britain, whatever the census might say
Two thousand years ago, a family took part in a census. Over the coming weeks in schools, churches, high streets, and venues across this country, the Christmas story that began with Mary and Joseph’s journey for a census will be enjoyed and celebrated by millions of people. But of what story are we a part? What story do we want to tell about ourselves? The UK census gives us a particular and…

finished the bg3 ironhand gnome plotline today and was wondering about the pulse of the fandom so i checked and
Tumblr media
turns out almost everyone who played this game is a coward!! doesn’t see that bg3’s commentary on violence can be about resistance by any means necessary to the point that you turn the knife on every single one of the people you once called friend

Sooner or later, any romantic relationship with Pancake will turn downright religious. Where sappy puppy-love turns into genuine devotion, where both parties go from light flustering to dedicated laughter and commitment. Where they both worship each other. It becomes sacred.
Anyways developing new Starcake lore, imagine what comes up next

something that i've found really surprising about the death note fandom is how much discussion there is surrounding characters' religious affiliations & the religious imagery throughout the text, but how little the shinigami seem to be brought up in those conversations. in 20 years of fandom i would imagine that's something that's come up before, and maybe there have been recent discussions that i've just happened to miss, but it's not something i've personally come across in posts around the topic of religion in death note and it seems like a pretty significant thing to leave out

normalise saying "I don't have enough information on this topic to have an opinion on it"
and then staying out of it completely rather than going along with wtv opinion u imprinted from three random posts/reels/tweets and having weird misinformed debates with full confidence
#like bro it's ok to not have an opinion on something if you don't know just say i don't know and move on#there's too many fucked up things going on in the world it's perfectly natural to not have proper information on a topic of debate#just remove yourself from said debate theres no needto go marching in with limited information and spreading even more misinformation#i see so many people around my age posting random political stuff be it religious or about lgbtq or women even and they haven't read#a single article about any of these topics ever#their only source is sketchy social media posts or “dark jokes” about a certain community making them think it's cool to shit on them#or random “sigma” edits of things and suddenly the most random stuff becomes everyone's favourite mainstream political affiliation#like have you read a single policy pertaining to this government or do you have a single reason for violently hating a certain community#i understand that some people are genuinely interested in these topics and that is absolutely wonderful it's great that young people have#opinions and commentary on world issues but only when this stems from an area of genuine interest and when at least some effort to be#factual is made not when it's only done because everyone else is doing it and they have some weird sort of fomo at work or they just think#it's funny or wtv without understanding the implications of their words and actions#no one is forcing you to involve yourself in every social issue but the moment you choose to make commentary on a social issue you must take#the responsibility of educating yourself as best you can before you open your mouth

okay so i was wondering abt L and/or mello with religion. i feel like both of them would be atheist or agnostic (L especially) but also the eye for an eye thing (this may have absolutely nothing to do with it idk) what do u think? also how do u think they would feel abt religion as a whole? would they think it's non debatable either existing or not exsisting or do they just not know or care to find out? thanks!
L is agnostic. Mello is atheistic. They both believe in eye for an eye on the grounds of pettiness; they like to win and you have to at least tie to win at any given time. They both would say that they celebrate Christian holidays if asked but neither of them actually would unprompted.
L’s take on religion is different than Mello’s. Religion, to him, is an inevitable reaction to hardship, an ancient, most sacred coping mechanism. Religion is community. Religion is truth in a world very much without. Religion is a promise that things will get better even when they aren’t, and even if he doesn’t choose to accept what religion has to offer, it is hard to not, at the very least, find it a fascinating look into the human psyche. He does not know what’s going on cosmically and doesn’t really care to know because he doesn’t think it matters much, but in general his take on religion is pretty positive.
Mello would agree with L that religion is a reaction to hardship. He, however, would not think that religion is good as a general statement. Religion is restraint to him. Religion is to give yourself in all ways that matter to a nebulous body. Religion is to surrender your agency. He’s worked this hard to take control over his own life; the idea of willingly giving that up makes no good sense to him. In his book, if there is a god, it didn’t do a very good job and doesn’t deserve the trouble.

I may be the meanest pettiest person on the whole entire planet (I am) but the concept of Catholic speed dating is the absolute worst thing I can think of and the whole "date while staying true to your values" vibe like. How do YOU know what my values are? I can't stand 99% of Catholics (and Christians broadly tbh. *Mr incredible voice: I'm not affiliated with you) and i would fistfight them in a heartbeat. The type of person drawn to the "marriage discernment" event is the exact type of person I want to AVOID at all costs.
Like yeah romance sounds nice and all, and I'm very good at just sitting here vaguely wishing for things, but I can barely form long term friendships with a significant intimate foundation. Even if I WERE to be in a relationship, the other party would almost certainly be non Catholic or be a bad Catholic like me and have to get cool with a lot of stuff real quick

2021 Census finds less than half England and Wales is Christian
2021 Census finds less than half England and Wales is Christian
Newly released 2021 Census results show under half the population of England and Wales describe themselves as “Christian”. Other parts of the UK – Scotland and Northern Ireland – report their census results separately. This is the first time the official religion of England and Wales – Christianity – has been followed by a minority population. By contrast to the declining Christian population,…

I would love to see a Decepticon leader who is also an utter religious fanatic and the faction gets shaped around him.
Is this when I say I've been thinking about an Earthspark Sunstorm trying to rebuild the decepticons
Okay but Sunstorm is a pretty good choice because a lot of decepticons aren't that religious
My second idea was a sort of warped version of "if Tarn became leader of the decepticons somehow" which lead me to a situation with him possibly trying to make his own religion based on being a decepticon
Of course you can make your own oc leader and have a situation like tfa where Megatron didn't create the faction but overthrew the one who did, which makes me think about a situation where Megs was actually created in say the beginning-middle (the first quartile?) of the war.

my hottest religion take: *primarily* blaming the origins of the alt right/american fascism on the early 2010s reactionary atheist subculture and not the christian hegemony and white supremacy baked into american culture is not only wildly disconnected from reality, but actively exonerates the role of christian nationalism in its formation
