People will be like, "I think all religions are evil and violent and ultra controlling cults and I came to this conclusion from growing up as an American fundamentalist Christian. This is definitely an accurate reflection of all religion ever and not just me projecting my own specific experiences and religious trauma onto the entire world. The things I say about other religions will be deeply antisemitic, islamophobic, racist, and ableist but I will deny that to my last breath because religion is bad and stupid and everyone needs to know."

Lord Evrard: We're all together now.
Friar Dorian Horbrooke. "Dr. Horribilis" polymath, philosopher, scientist, theologian. A genius that some call a wizard with unmatched expertise on ancient texts.
Gerard de Vendhuile. Architect and artist of the future. Your mind knows no bounds and travels places some can only dream of
Langward Ardene. Physician and surgeon who has written about the unwrite-able. Leagues above your counterparts because you know there's more to everything than meets the eye.
Barnabas of Ballechey. Astronomer and alchemist you're one of the few people who has seen visions of places beyond. Cracks that have led to our coming here.
And there's Prince Warin. Manipulative smartass. You hear me? He's clever and got his people under his thumb. Hello? Y'all paying attention to me? He's willing to do anything to get what he wants and he never stops wanting. Keep your guard around him. Did I mention he was manipulative?

Ourthur makes me go feral for many reasons but also due to the dynamic of one guy who believes in the Trinity, one guy who believes in just one God, one guy who believes in no gods, and a god. I love them so much-

I don't agree with a lot of Sanderson's politics - and they aren't, in fact, based in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints doctrine, but rather Utah culture - but it also makes me pretty uncomfortable to hear you badmouthing the church I'm part of?
I badmouth religious organizations in general, Catholic Church included (in which I was raised) because they tend to be overwhelmingly corrupt and abusive towards their own church members (and especially towards people outside of them)
Mormonism in particular is especially bad for how being part of the church requires “tithings” from paychecks plus their treatment of women, minorities, and even men in ways that are almost so explicitly manipulative and cultish that it feels like it comes out of parody.
(For example, I simply declared, “I am no longer catholic” and that was it. Done. You cannot generally do the same in LDS without incredible backlash and slander by its members)
And it’s very obvious when it shows up in fictional books by a lot of Mormon writers, because it’s so conservative that it’s a step or two behind the times.
It’s not as bad as Westeros Westboro Baptist Church or Scientology, but that’s not a high bar to clear.
If your time in the church was different, I’m happy for you, because it means you likely avoided the worst parts of their abuse.
Still, if you have the time, I’d suggest watching these videos (in no particular order):
Why I Left Mormonism - Video covering the creation of the channel “Cults to Consciousness” and her abusive home life under the church
The BITE Model - Simple PowerPoint explaining the reoccurring factors of cults
Ex-Mormon Cast Reacts to Mormon Debates -Cast of ex-Mormon members react to a Mormon debate and highlight various lies and falsehoods presented, as well talk about teachings/history Mormon Church does not want revealed publicly
How the Mormon Church ‘Help Line’ Hid Child Abuse - Exactly what it says. Survivors speak out and the church has done nothing for them or worse.
If you don’t want to watch these videos, if you can’t stomach the testimonies, ask yourself and others these questions:
- How often are you allowed to preach about Heavenly Mother?
- How often do you see women in power within the church, as in, deciding doctrine and not just playing piano or making food for the men?
- How often do you see minorities in power within the church, as in, deciding doctrine or being treated as a token?
- How often does your church talk about the incredibly high suicide rates for children and how it’s associated with its practices?
- How come when a racist, anti-Semitic, misogynistic etc Prophet speaks its “the word of God” and doctrine, but then another Prophet can simply claim it was mere “policy”. Was ‘God’ lying to the prophets? Were the prophets lying about God? How can you trust what is their words and what is God?
- How come the church hid $30 Billion dollars from the public and even its own lower members?
- How come the founder lied about what was on the Egyptian papyrus, claiming it was a translation from God, but people who can actually read Egyptian pointed out he was lying?
- How come you get treated differently for asking these supposedly easy to answer questions?
I do not go after Brandon or you because you happen to be religious. I think belief in a higher power is one’s own choice and prerogative.
I instead care far more about the religious system that is using well-intended people like pawns for goals that pretty much boil down to money and power.

You know what, it would be hard to believe in Jesus when you're on your third(?) life. Everyone else is here (Earth) talking about YOLO, meanwhile Arthur "keeps fucking dying" Lester is like a cat with a bag full of lives and all of them are bad

I love podcasts and their attitude toward religion/faith
Midnight Burger: Religion is not a reason to be a bigot. It should be encouragement to help others. With religion you should offer people comfort and support, not a tool of oppression.
Forgive me!: Religion and people involved with it are flawed. Maybe the true faith can be find in support and comfort of community around religion.
The Amelia Project: We faked deaths of multiple biblical characters and used The Bible as an advertisement pamphlet.

question. what are your feelings about oscar x arthur x john? as a ship
I am. So mad how little time they gave Oscar. I could really say that about anyone from season 4, I suppose.
When I tell you I was salivating waiting for the priest character to appear. Yeah I spoiled the cast for myself with some fanart that popped up on pinterest, and I kid you not, it were Oscar and Larson that kept me going throughout seasons 1 and 2 when I hadn't even known their names yet.
I love Oscar. Despite how little time he was given. I love the way he latches onto Arthur practically out of desperation, how Arthur does the same, but not for him, but for his humanity. I'd love to see John and Oscar reluctant to share Arthur but finding common ground in worshipping the hell out of him. I love imagining how slow and agonizing the process of actual romance would develop. I like to imagine a growing comradery between John and Oscar, based on their shared adoration of Arthur. John feeling Arthur's frustration or tensity and gesturing to Oscar to let him know he should step in. John's hand guiding Oscar's to Arthur's sweetest spots...
So uh! Although I never post about him, Oscar does have a place in my heart. And either does this ship. I've read some ao3 stuff on them and that was elite.

As much as I love and understand people navigating their queerness and religious standings through Oscar, I love when people keep him Catholic AND keep him queer.
His religion is very important to him, it’s his solace and brings him joy through helping others. He can be queer and still find the love in his religion.
Believing Arthur is his purpose given to him by God gives him hope and optimism for the future, even if that hope is short lived.
In short, I love religious queer Oscar

We tend to think that it was impossible not to subscribe to Christianity in the Middle Ages. But, as in any age, belief can wax and wane. But the chroniclers of the period largely ignored the voices of ordinary people, whose faith may not have been quite so devout as we have been led to believe.
In this episode of Gone Medieval, Dr. Eleanor Janega talks to Dr. Alec Ryrie, author of Unbelievers: An Emotional History of Doubt, which charts how atheism bloomed as a belief system in its own right.

It is important to understand that real knowledge is of the heart. Real wisdom is what we live. Real knowledge comes from experience, and more importantly, that experience of higher realities comes when we investigate our own heart, our own mind, our ways of living, and to look, not to assume that we know, “I am of this race, this culture, this religion, this belief system, these politics, this upbringing.” It means to really look at what is inside in terms of our emotions, our impulses, our will.
This active looking is precisely what every tradition teaches about meditation: to look, to observe, to acquire new information―not to assume that we already know who we are, but to be open and to watch in a state of stillness, of observation, of clarity. It is that inner discrimination of ourselves that really helps us to distinguish right from wrong. It is our heart, our conscience, that tells us what is right and what is wrong. We may have traditions that tell us these things, but what do we know in our being about what to do? ― especially when we are faced with situations that are so complex that we are baffled. We are confused. We are overwhelmed, like you heard in Carmina Burana. When fate hits, the hammer of karma, of hardship, strikes, and we find all of those things that we typically ignore come to the surface of our mind, things we may neglect or fail to look at.

“TMA got me into -blank-“
ya’ll know that joke around the fandom where TMA got you into something that should have no connection to TMA? I think I officially “win” the joke
The magnus archives got me into paganism, TMA is the reason I am religious
(Feel free to guess who I work with if u want,)
