The Killing Tapes ‘The Kings of Dark Pop’ was formed in 2020 by Marcus Crede (Kreatur and others) and Peter Svensson (Mary Celeste, Hello Hartland). The lyrics and demos were presented to Peter by Marcus in the fall of 2020 and they immediately began to work on the material together. Shortly into the writing process they both realized that the songs were of such quality and importance, they wanted to find a producer that could help them record the songs so that they would sound the best they could.

Late fall of 2020, Roy Lundberg (Studio Connect) was presented with the songs and he took on the job of producing and recording the album, on an analog console.

The recording process and writing of songs was beginning to take its toll on all involved due to mental illness, alcoholism, drugs and other events, to such an extent that they didn’t know if this was too big of a project to handle. But the love for our music kept them going, and after some drastic changes they decided to give Niels Nielsen (Ghost, In Flames, Dead Soul) the job to mix the music for The Witch. He did such a good job as he understands the music and the sound they are after, so they decided he will do the mixing on the rest of the album after First Love and do the producing themselves.

BLACK album is written by Marcus in a difficult period in his life, with many events taking place the year before. The symbolic lyrics are rendered through the music, and to make it easier to tell, he has chosen to use a number of murders in the early 90's as a background to his own stories. BLACK is about grief - hate - vengeance and love. In that particular order. It’s about letting go of yourself and sacrificing everything for the sake of love.

Musically The Killing Tapes is a unique mix of Alternative Rock and electronic instruments. They have used original 80s and 90s synths (KORG M1, M3, Wavestation, MS20, Yamaha PSR). It is not a retro album but the sounds of the gear and the way it is played gives a certain feeling of melancholy they both love.

Majice is the Moscow band that consists of Alexey Rodikov, sound engineer and composer, and Kseniya Shevchenko, vocalist and songwriter. One day Kseniya has met Alexey online while scrolling some music forums and that was a great match, in a music-making way, of course. They started with tuning in to each other, combining ideas, styles and thoughts and then the both of them understood that it is the beginning of something cool and most importantly, something they want to fill their life with. Mined Music is an artist who recently released a fantastic new studio work titled I Never Really Knew You (feat. Miss Geist & Dara Zusko). Mined Music has always been able to create music that’s incredibly diverse in terms of production, and this release is no exception. The instrumental is on-point, with some amazing background parts and some ambient-driven soundscapes. The drum beat itself is direct, going for a mellow, yet assertive and energetic sound. The vocal per-formances by LA artist Miss Geist are special, adding a sheen of emotional honesty and appealing hooks to the mix. With lyrics such as “I guess I should have known, it’s too good to be true,” the song has a deep and powerful meaning. The lyrics are very personal, and the song could be interpreted as finally realizing that you were with so-meone for a long time, only to find out that you didn’t really know who they were!

Miss Geist and Dara Zusko are a great fit on this track, and they match the style of the production. The violin parts courtesy of Dara, are also quite special, perfectly blending in with the synthesizer tones and adding more to the amazing melodies of the composition. Every-thing is lush and dreamy, with a sound that reminds me of alternative hip-hop, lo-fi, and dream-hop, but with a darker indie-pop twist to ma-ke it all  more intimate and organic.

One of the most amazing things about Mined Music’s music is the fact that his sound is extremely articulate and varied. The production is great, and all the elements are perfectly in sync, arranged in order to achieve maximum musical impact and provide the audience with an unforgettable listening experience. I Never Really Knew You is yet another amazing song from Mined Music, especially in the way the sound knows no boundaries in mixing ideas and sounds into some-thing that could be considered innovative and characterful.
