ficbinding: a sailor moon tete-beche

so here's the thing:

my first love? my first fandom? sailor moon, 1995. it's horrifically old-fashioned now to admit this (there are so many, many, many interpretations of the various relationships and potential love stories 30 years later) but i was obsessed with the reincarnated love story of it all and i lost my damn mind when i saw that, because of a series of drawings done by the manga artist, it is technically canon that the sailor senshi also had forbidden lovers in another life.

i was 13. it really stuck with me. it still does.

these stories are a matched set--one from the past (the silver millennium) and one set in the future (crystal tokyo). they are from 2011 and i found them in a time when i was Going Through It and needed to return to that first love and it was that impulse that drove me to finally bind them. well, that and the @renegadeguild annual binderary. we had an excellent workshop and session on using macros in word to simplify typesetting and i just went on a slightly unhinged spree, grabbing everything i could and running it through to have on standby.

these fics were slightly more complicated--originally posted on FF.net, not AO3, and had been deleted by the author in the intervening years (so i will not be linking them here). fortunately i was able to track it down and make this bind by adapting the macro workflow and incorporating the .txt files from the internet archive. the cover art is from mimiclothing on deviant art as highlighted by the senshi/shitennou appreciation blog.

ficbinding: the dinner 'verse

this is just about primary colors and gorgeous paper for three of my all-time favorite comfort reads, posted around 2011-2012 (except for 'dinner at last', a little outlier adn should not be counted).

the stories

the dinner 'verse by lyaka rewired my brain chemistry when i was in a deep funk and i can never thank it enough. it gave me a place to live and wallow and even got me writing--in my notebooks, on my computer, during work, when i was home--working on my own version of how these stories would fit into a wider world. they're lovely. sailor moon, senshi/shitennou, exploring a series of scenarios post-canon between the senshi and the generals and how their paths would have crossed again. questions of fate, memory, history, illusion, truth, etc. simply delightful.

the binding

these are all sewn board legal quartos, a matched set with identical typesetting details. marbled papers (from mulberry papers) in senshi-inspired colors. paper spines in glitter cardstock.

Referenced from that popular manga picture that has spawned quite a lot of redraws already. But you can't tell me the guy doesn't look exactly like Jadeite's cruise captain disguise from the 90s anime :P

Kodansha TV Picture Book Volume 3

Usagi and Ami aren't wasting time investigating the 6pm bus.

They come across Rei at the shrine and Rei attacks Usagi with an ofuda.

Rei apologizes. Luna notices power coming from Rei. Jadeite shows up with tea.

Jadeite gathers the energy he collected from charms. Rei confronts Jadeite.

Usagi transform into a flight attendant before running onto the bus with Ami and Luna. Ami and Luna were never on the bus in the anime. In the anime she somehow prayed with her wand and it lead a path of light that was used by Tuxedo Kamen to drive the bus back. Oh wait. #mamoru chiba is missing. Well in this case Tuxedo Kamen, but same thing.

Youma appears to attack Rei. Usagi and Ami transform.

Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury attack the youma while Luna tosses Rei her transformation pen.

Sailor Mars attacks along with Sailor Moon's tiara and they stop the youma. They are now instant best buddies to fight evil and Luna is happy in Mars' arms this time.
