REGULUS BLACK Enemy to lovers with Regulus Black and a Gryffindor
my native language is not english, please use a translator for this
One shot with A.I (artificial intelligence)
Tumblr media
Regulus Black had always considered Gryffindors his natural enemies. Ever since he set foot in Hogwarts, he had learned to despise everyone who did not belong in his house, and the brave and daring Gryffindors were especially annoying to him.
So when he found himself teaming up with a Gryffindor girl for a Divination task, he wasn't expecting anything good. He had heard about her in the halls, always talking to her friends happily and with a smile on her face. He found her annoying, too friendly for her own good.
But when they sat together in the library to work on the project, Regulus discovered that there was more to her than he thought. She was smart, insightful, and a hard worker, dedicated to bringing out the best in her team. Despite their differences, Regulus began to enjoy working with her and was surprised at how well they complemented each other.
Over time, their discussions became more lively, sometimes even raising their voices. But the tension only increased the attraction, and Regulus began to realize that he couldn't get her out of his head. She challenged him in ways no one else had before, made him feel alive and excited.
One day, while they were working together, the tension finally came to a head. Their differences were too great to ignore, and they began to argue. But in the middle of the argument, Regulus finally relented, admitting that he had been wrong and that she was right about many things. It was a moment of vulnerability that surprised him, but she greeted him with a warm, friendly smile.
After that, things changed between them. They no longer saw each other as enemies, but as teammates, and the tension that had been building turned into a deeper attraction. Regulus began to see the Gryffindor girl differently, realizing that there was much more to her than he had ever imagined. Over time, that attraction turned into love, and Regulus was surprised that it was possible to fall in love with someone from a rival house.
Together, Regulus and the Gryffindor girl broke down the barriers that had separated their houses for so long. They discovered that, despite their differences, they were much more alike than they had ever imagined, and that love knew no houses or enmities.

when sirius and james accidentally find out about regulus’ crush on james, sirius makes the mistake of assuming him and james are on the same page and tells him he trusts him to do the right thing (ie let regulus down easy) james misinterprets this as sirius trusting him to never do anything that could hurt regulus and starts planning the wedding

heart shaped doodles - james potter x reader
wc: 836
summary: you accidentally get given james' essay, covered in doodles with your intials together
me: wrote this in one sitting i love loverboy james!!!!!
════ ⋆★⋆ ════
you were in agonies waiting for your latest potions essay. usually, you had a pretty good grasp of how you were doing academically, but this last project just had you muddled and confused.
the confusion you felt about your essay, though, was completely overshadowed by the utter bewilderment you experienced as you looked down at the piece of paper slughorn had handed you.
all over the heading and through the margins laid doodled hearts, slightly smudged from carelessness. even stranger than the hearts was that your initials sat right in the middle of them, paired with the unmistakable ‘j.p.’.
you quickly paged through the rest of the essay, face draining of colour at the characteristic chicken scratch — and even more so at the clearly accidental inclusion of a page in the middle, filled with doodles and the repeated mantra of ‘mr james’ followed by your last name.
before you could process what you’d just read slughorn snatched the essay out of your hands, booming laugh echoing through the potions classroom.
“sorry about that,” he shook his head as if to reprimand himself, “i must have gotten confused with your initials being all over it.” that got the class’ attention, and several gryffindors craned their necks to catch a glance of the paper as the professor passed.
when slughorn finally made it to james’ desk, dropping the essay down silently, the class erupted into chaos. teasing and heckling ensued as both you and james sunk into your seats, and you were sure your face was the same shade of red as his.
slughorn failed spectacularly at controlling the class after the revelation that the james potter had a crush on you. and not just any crush, a doodle-your-names-together-in-the-margins, down-bad kind of crush. knowing that no more learning was going to happen slughorn dismissed you all, and you had plans to run straight to your dorm and hide there until everyone stopped caring about the whole incident.
remus lupin was immediately at your side, chatting to you about something you weren’t particularly interested in, but you were too polite to tell him of your hibernation plans. you nodded and agreed with him until you were the only ones left in the classroom. apart from james.
you froze, panic overtaking you as you stumbled to put the last of your things in your bag and run when a voice called your name. you knew instantly it was james and turned slowly to face him, forcing yourself to reluctantly make eye contact.
there was still a light dusting of blush above his cheekbones, and the way he was rubbing the back of his neck betrayed his own nervousness.
“hey,” he said, hand clutching the single strap of his bag.
“hi,” you replied, trying to stop your hands from shaking.
“so you, uh, saw my paper?”
“yeah,” you breathed, “um, congrats on the ‘o’ by the way. wish it really was my essay.” james laughed softly at your joke, messing up his hair for something to do.
“i could help you sometime! if you need it, of course.” james cringed at his own reply, the instant realisation that it maybe wasn’t the right thing to say at the moment.
“right,” you trailed off, “well, i’m gonna—”
“wait!” james reached out, a hand catching your bicep lightly. it sent goosebumps up and down the length of your arm. you looked at james expectantly, heart hammering in your chest.
“look, i — fuck. there’s no point pretending we both don’t know now. i really like you. like, an embarrassing amount, as everyone’s discovered today. and i wasn’t gonna do anything about it because i figured you’re so out of my league and aren’t interested, but i suppose i’ve already made a fool out of myself today, might as well full send it. so, what do you say? can i take you out to hogsmeade sometime?”
you pretended to mull it over to give your internal voice time to scream. james potter was without a doubt the hottest guy in school, not to mention smart and funny and good at everything he tried. and he wanted to go out with you! if he wasn’t watching you with anxious interest you thought you might’ve passed out. instead, you played it cool.
“yeah,” you said, smile creeping out despite your best efforts, “yeah, that sounds like fun.”
you almost had to shield your eyes when james beamed, practically its own light source.
“cool!” he said, too loud and fast, “next weekend?” you nodded with almost equal enthusiasm, the two of you sharing the same giggly grins.
behind james you caught a glance of slughorn through the crack in his office door, smiling fondly at the both of you. maybe his slip-up wasn’t so accidental.
“so,” james said, intertwining your fingers boldly as you both turned to leave, “you need me to be your tutor?”

when james and regulus get married, they don’t tell anyone.
they’re both rich and pretentious and a bit snobby, so everyone expects them to have a massively expensive and well-planned ceremony. and initially, that’s what they were going to do.
and then one night they’re lying in bed together, and james turns over and says “let’s get married in the morning” and regulus, without missing a beat, says “okay.”
they get dressed up and head to the courthouse, recite their vows in a private room and sign the necessary papers, and then they go home. they cook and drink wine and have their first dance in their kitchen, illuminated by the golden glow of the setting sun, and it’s all perfect.
it’s all they need, and they don’t have to wait any longer for their forever.

i would love to see 1000 secrets with barty crouch or regulus 😏
combining this with another reg request!! I have one coming for Barty soon too dw 🫶
1000 secret kisses | R.B.
Tumblr media
cw: MDNI 18+, smut mentioned, secret relationships, fwb, drinking
1000 things prompt list (closed!) | masterlist
Alright, Barty. Truth, dare, or shot,” Dorcas said, still coughing after the gulp of firewhisky she just took.
“Truth,” Barty replied.
“What's your most controversial opinion about someone in the group?” Dorcas challenged, and everyone ooooh’d.
Barty took a contemplative drag of his joint, then—“I would bet my left nut that Regulus is a virgin,” Barty said through a cloud of smoke.
“No way, look at him!” Pandora argued. “He fucks, guarantee it.”
The groups heads swiveled to Regulus, who was reclined lazily in arm chair, knees spread, a cigarette dangling from his fingertips. He looked supremely fuckable to you, like he always did.
That's why you've been secret friends with benefits for most of the school year.
You and Regulus were an unlikely pair; Reg, a certified grouch with a distaste for socializing, and you, a gifted student and natural flirt. But you found him fascinating, deeply intelligent and perceptive, with an artistic heart, even if he preferred not to show it. And he found you endearing, infectious in your enthusiasm.
You'd kissed him after a drunken night in Hogsmeade, and he'd sought you out the following day in the library. Now, you snuck away every chance you got, stealing secret moments around every corner, in every classroom, praying your friends never discovered the truth, lest you never hear the end of it.
This was just for the two of you, and you preferred it that way.
“I'm not saying he isn't sexy!” Barty argued. “I'm saying he couldn't be bothered to fuck someone, too busy reading poetry and glaring.”
“And you expect me to, what? Fuck everything with legs like you, Junior?” Regulus bit back.
“No, but like—I’ve never even seen you glance at someone,” Evan chimed in. “You've never talked about fancying someone, or gotten flustered.”
Regulus raised an eyebrow, but didn't comment.
“Nothing shakes him, and he'd never tell you half-wits if he fancied someone because you can't keep your mouths shut,” Xeno laughed.
“It's not like it's anyone's business anyways,” you added, stealing the joint from Barty and taking a puff. “It's his business who he does, or doesn't, fuck.”
“Oh, come off it. He hasn't even had a crush on you, and we've all had a crush on you,” Barty said.
You nearly choked on your hit. “You're full of shit, Junior.”
“It's true! We talked about it the other day!”
You risked a glance at Regulus while you fanned the smoke from around your face, and found him glaring down at his lap, his expression was calm, but you'd long ago learned to judge his true feelings by his pale eyes. And right now, the hostility in them could raze the castle.
That must have been the day he abruptly dragged you from your dorm and into an empty classroom. He toyed with you until you cried, begging him to get you off. And when he finally let you ride him, you weren't allowed to come until you told him exactly who you belonged to. Making you spell out his entire name, letter by letter, thrust by thrust.
Regulus Arcturus Black.
Your pussy shivered just thinking about it.
“Can we get on with the game, please?” Pandora huffed. “It's y/n’s turn.”
Barry grinned over at you, and you groaned. Why on Salazar's shitty earth did you think it was a good idea to sit next to him?
“Truth, dare, or shot, my darling?” Barty asked, his voice a seductive purr.
You really didn't want to take a shot of that lukewarm swill, and you had a hunch of what Barty's question would be: do you fancy any of us? Leaving you with one option.
“Dare.”
Barty’s eyes lit up, and he rubbed his hands together like a supervillain. “You've made a grave error, my dearest y/n.”
“Don't be an ass, Crouch. Play fair,” Regulus warned, the edge of his voice sharper than was probably necessary.
“Oh, you'll like this Reggie, don't worry.” Barty presented his palms to you, like he was offering a gift. “Treasure, I dare you to make Regulus blush.”
“That's not fair!” Pandora argued. “How is she supposed to do that?”
“By any means necessary.” Barty grinned.
You looked at Regulus, who was already looking at you. “I don't want to cross any lines—”
“And when she fails?” Regulus asked, a hint of a smirk on his pretty mouth. Baiting you.
“Then she takes two shots,” Barty wagered.
You looked back and forth between them, all eyes on you. “Deal,” you said, pushing to your feet.
Regulus' eyes widened a fraction, like he didn't expect you to actually go for it, but he vastly underestimated your pettiness. And you would love nothing more than to be the thing that made Regulus finally crack in front of his friends. A tiny consultation for months of keeping secrets.
You sashayed over to him, ignoring the whistles and shouts from your friends, focused entirely on Regulus' smug face. His eyes roamed over you, lingering at the edge of your skirt, the sway of your hips, and you caught the unmistakable sign of his Adam’s apple bobbing in his throat, and his arrogant expression faltered.
Already, you were making him sweat.
You knew none of your regular tricks would work on him, he was impervious to flirting, but you had an ace up your sleeve.
Carefully, you perched on the arm of his chair, being mindful to not actually touch him, knowing it would bother him to have you so close without being able to touch. He shifted a little in his seat, a fraction closer to you, fingers tightening on his cigarette.
You took a pull from the joint, filling your lungs with its acrid burn. You looked at Regulus expectantly, and he smirked before tilting his head back for you. You leaned in and he parted his lips, letting you blow the smoke into his mouth.
Your friends continued to whoop and cheer, but you focused on Regulus' proximity, the hazy feeling coarsing through your blood.
Merlin, you wanted to kiss him.
Instead, when the last of the smoke left your lungs and entered his, you shifted to whisper in his ear. “Took that hit so well, sweet boy,” you purred, letting your lips brush the shell of his ear.
You felt his body hitch, wanting to cough up the smoke, but he managed to blow it out of the corner of his mouth, casting you vicious side eye. To your delight, you noticed a delicate pink stain was crawling up his neck, warming the tops of his cheekbones.
“She did it!” Evan cheered, and the rest of the group roared in approval.
“Brat,” he grumbled, rolling his eyes. You knew you'd be paying for it later, but it was so worth it to know you had an affect on him no one else did.
You sauntered back over to your seat, smiling ear to ear and basking in the groups praise.
Regulus tried to play it off, but there was no going back now. And you knew he was in trouble when it was finally his turn.
“Alright, Reggie,” Pandora said. “Truth, dare, or shot.”
You already knew what he would pick: Reg hated booze, and would rather run around the common room naked than fess up to something.
“Dare,” he said, taking a bold glance at you.
Pandora caught it, of course, and a tendril of uncertainty coiled in your stomach.
“I dare you to make y/n blush back.”
Regulus huffed a low laugh. “Come on, Dora. Give me a challenge.”
You glared at him, and he winked back. Maybe it was the weed, or his competitive nature, but you'd never seen him so brazen.
Everyone ooooh’d.
“Fine, I dare you to kiss one person in the circle!”
Your heart sunk. Even if it was platonic, a stupid dare, you didn't particularly want to see Regulus kiss someone else. Your feelings for Regulus has grown over the course of the your secret relationship, and while neither of you were ready for labels, that didn't mean you wanted to share him, or vice versa if the night in the classroom was any indication.
Regulus narrowed his eyes at her. “Not everyone consents to being kissed by me.”
“I consent!” They all chorused, and you inwardly groaned.
“What? You've never fucked and you've never kissed someone?” Barty teased, ramping up the pressure.
“Fuck off, Crouch,” Regulus hissed. The game was getting to him, and your friends were feasting on his rare display of discomfort.
You'd feel bad for him if you weren't feeling so sorry for yourself. Reg would probably kiss Barty just to shut him up, and then storm off to bed. Leaving you to decipher his words and actions like every night spent without him there to prove his affection with his hands and mouth.
Shit, maybe this arrangement had gotten more out of control than you realized.
“How the fuck is Sirius such a lady-killer, and his little brother is the virgin fuckin’ Mary?” Barty was too busy laughing at his own jokes to notice Regulus get up and prowl across the circle towards him.
Barty finally noticed when Reg was almost on top of him, but at the last second, Regulus pivoted. His hand shot out to grab you by the hair, roughly tilting your head back for the bruising kiss he planted on your unsuspecting lips.
You squeaked in surprise, but quickly gave way for him, melting under his firm, insistent mouth as his tongue delved between your teeth to taste you.
As quickly as he swept in, he was gone, leaving you wide eyed and breathless as he stalked back to his seat and dropped into it, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
“What was it you said? ‘Y/n has the most gorgeous mouth you'd ever seen’?” Regulus said, a mocking edge in his voice. “That you'd ‘give anything to taste her'?”
Barty gaped like a fish.
Regulus smirked. “I’ll have that left bollock now. And I'll take the other one if I hear my girl’s name on your mouth again, you prick.”
Everyone gasped, including you, but Regulus didn't even flinch.
“Understood?” He glared at Barty, then the others, until each one of them lowered their eyes in submission.
Regulus beckoned you forward with two fingers and you jumped up, crossing the space between you and allowing him to pull you into his lap. He threaded his fingers through your hair, pulling you in for another kiss, little more than a peck, but it still made your head spin.
“So, secrets out?” You asked, meeting his eyes.
Regulus shrugged, pecking your cheek. “It doesn't change anything,” he murmured, kissing the corner of your mouth. “I’m yours.” He kissed your nose, your temple, your lips, down your neck, until all of your friends dispersed, making disgusted noises as they fled such a public display of affection.
But you couldn't be happier, grinning like a fool as you basked in a thousand not-so-secret kisses.

I. Mattheo Riddle
Mattheo freezes mid-bite of his chocolate frog, giving you the kind of look someone reserves for a talking cat. "You can’t pay the what now?" he says, mouth still half-full.
When you repeat it, his eyebrows shoot up so high they practically disappear into his curls. "Wait, wait, wait. You’re telling me you’ve been paying the rent this whole time? Babe, what rent? Where are you sending this money? Do I need to send the lads to go 'talk' to someone?"
You insist you’re serious, and he bursts into laughter so loud it echoes around the room. He’s clutching his stomach, tears forming in his eyes. "Oh, this is rich! Next, you’ll tell me you’ve been working overtime at Flourish and Blotts to afford my ‘extravagant lifestyle.’ What’s next, huh? Selling cauldron cakes on the side?"
When you try to keep a straight face, he leans forward, his expression deadpan now but his voice dripping with sarcasm. "No, seriously, though. Should I sell my broom? Start knitting scarves for a Galleon a pop? Maybe I can busk on Diagon Alley…play the ukulele or some crap. People love that."
By now, you’re wheezing with laughter, and he just shakes his head, smirking. "Merlin, Y/N, if your acting career doesn’t work out, at least we know you’ve got a future in comedy. But seriously…rent? That’s cute.”
By now, you’re gasping for air, struggling to hold it together, and Mattheo’s smirk only grows wider as he watches you. He leans in a little closer, his voice dropping to a softer, almost teasing tone. "You know," he says with a glint in his eye, "If you really need help with the rent... maybe I could offer you a private lesson in how to make some extra Galleons."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
II. Theodore Nott
Theo looks up from the chessboard he’s been meticulously studying for the last half hour, an eyebrow raised in mild confusion. "What do you mean you can’t pay the rent?" he asks, his tone calm but with a dangerous edge of skepticism.
You repeat it, adding a dramatic sigh for effect.
He blinks slowly, as if trying to process whether you’ve gone mad or if he missed some critical detail in your relationship. "You’ve... been paying the rent? Since when? Because I distinctly recall handling all of that."
When you insist, he leans back in his chair, steepling his fingers like he’s analyzing a particularly tricky potion. "Alright, either you’ve been scammed by an exceptionally creative con artist, or this is your latest attempt to distract me from beating you at chess."
You pout, staying in character, and he sighs heavily, running a hand through his hair. "Y/N, do you even know where the rent money comes from? Because I can assure you, it’s not your side gig selling those questionable potions on Etsy.”
The corners of his mouth twitch as he fights a grin. Finally, when you can’t hold back your laughter anymore, he rolls his eyes, muttering under his breath, "Honestly, I need to start charging you rent for all this nonsense. At least make it worth my while.”
As you finally break into laughter, Theo sets his chess pieces down with a dramatic sigh, his eyes softening just a bit. He leans in, brushing a stray lock of hair behind your ear with surprising gentleness. "You’re impossible," he mutters, his voice a little quieter now, though there’s still a teasing glint in his eyes. "But you know, I wouldn’t have it any other way."
He gives you a small, almost shy smile, then leans back in his chair, his usual cool demeanor returning. "Now, let’s see if you can distract me enough to win this game."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
III. Draco Malfoy
He would look at you like you’ve gone MENTAL
“Haha funny joke, y/n,” he rolls his eyes, going right back to reading his book and munching on his green apple.
When you reiterate it, Draco squints at you, lowering his book slightly, the crunch of his apple freezing mid-chew. "Excuse me? You what?" he says, a hint of incredulity creeping into his voice.
When you repeat it again, this time with extra drama, he sits bolt upright, his apple rolling forgotten onto the table. "Wait, wait, wait…you pay the mortgage? Since when? Did I suddenly get amnesia and forget we’re Muggles now? Because last I checked, the Manor doesn’t even have a mortgage!”
He grabs his wand, waving it theatrically. "Accio sense, because clearly you’ve lost yours!”
You keep the act going, insisting you’re serious, and he just gapes at you like you’ve declared you’ve taken up dragon wrestling as a hobby. Finally, he narrows his eyes.
“Y/N, love, if this is about that handbag you wanted last week, just say so. No need to concoct elaborate tales about rent payments. Merlin’s beard, you're ridiculous.”
When you burst into laughter, he leans back in his chair, scowling but unable to hide the faintest smirk. "I’m marrying a lunatic," he mutters, reaching for his apple again. "At least the lunatic has good taste in handbags."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
IV. Blaise Zabini
Blaise looks up from his cup of espresso, one perfectly arched brow lifting as he tilts his head at you. "I’m sorry, darling. Did I hear that correctly? You can’t pay the rent? You mean the rent that I, Blaise Zabini, the man with seven vaults at Gringotts, didn’t even let you look at, let alone contribute to?"
You double down, trying to sell your story, and he exhales slowly, setting his glass down with the exaggerated care of a man trying to keep his composure. "This is new. Tragic, even. Shall I sell the antique Italian sofa to keep us afloat? Or, Merlin forbid, cut back on the imported silk sheets?"
When you keep insisting, he leans back, crossing his arms and giving you a slow once-over, his lips twitching with amusement. "You know what? You’re right. It’s all gone. We’re destitute. Better start knitting socks and selling them on Knockturn Alley. Maybe I’ll start charging Draco for advice. He’s overdue for paying his mate tax.”
Finally, when you burst into laughter, Blaise smirks, shaking his head and snaking an arm around your waist, pulling you close. "You’re lucky you’re cute, Y/N. If anyone else tried this nonsense, I’d have them banned from my flat and my life. But you? You get away with everything.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
V. Regulus Black
Regulus doesn’t even look up from his book, clearly too absorbed to even register your words at first. But when you repeat it, his eyes flicker briefly to you, a quizzical expression crossing his face. "Wait, what do you mean you can’t pay the rent?"
You try to explain, going for maximum drama, and he sighs, setting his book down with a soft thud. "Y/N, darling, I pay the rent. I handle everything. You’re telling me you’ve been struggling to pay it all this time?" His tone is flat, not even slightly concerned, just bemused. "I’ve already transferred the payment for the month. Did you forget?"
You continue the joke, and Regulus glances at you again, narrowing his eyes. "Are you seriously trying to convince me that you…you…have been paying the rent? Did you somehow think I’d believe that, or did you just want an excuse to create drama?"
He picks up his book again, unfazed. "You’re lucky you’re charming, because if anyone else tried this, I’d seriously reconsider their grip on reality." He sighs with exaggerated patience, "Don’t you remember? I’m the one who handles the bills. The whole thing is already sorted. No need to panic, love."
When you can’t keep it going anymore and laugh, he glances up once more with a slight smirk, rolling his eyes. "Honestly, Y/N, your attempts at theatrics are as bad as your cooking. At least make the drama more believable next time.”
As you laugh, Regulus's serious expression softens just a touch, and he leans over, brushing a strand of hair from your face. "You’re impossible, you know that?" he mutters, but there's a warmth in his voice. "If you ever do run into a problem, though... just tell me."
You smile, and he sighs, shaking his head with a hint of affection. "I swear, you’ll be the death of me." But there’s a small, barely noticeable smile tugging at the corners of his lips, the kind he only gives when he’s not trying to be all stoic and mysterious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
VI. Tom Riddle
Tom Riddle doesn’t even flinch when you announce that you can’t pay the rent, simply pausing for a moment before his sharp, calculating gaze turns to you. "What are you on about?" he asks, his voice smooth but laced with a hint of annoyance. "You’ve been paying the rent? Since when did you even have the opportunity to pay it?"
When you repeat it with exaggerated seriousness, he leans back in his chair, narrowing his eyes, clearly trying to make sense of it. "I’ll admit, you’re certainly creative...but no. I’ve always taken care of the bills. I don’t recall a single instance where you were involved in such matters."
You continue the joke, and he chuckles darkly, though it’s clear he doesn’t fully buy it. "If this is your attempt at gaining attention, it's a poor one, darling. Do you think I’m so easily fooled?" His tone softens just slightly, a flash of something that could almost be affection in his eyes.
He stands and steps toward you, leaning in just close enough to make you feel his presence, but not too close to be truly comforting. "Next time you need a distraction, don’t go around pretending to pay rent," he murmurs, his lips brushing your ear ever so slightly. "It’s beneath you. If you need something, ask. But don’t insult my intelligence."
When you finally start laughing, Tom smirks, his eyes glimmering with something softer, though it’s well hidden behind his usual cold demeanor. "You’re insufferable, Y/N. And that’s probably why I... let you get away with it."

Obsessed with the idea that Remus uses all the marauders being animagi as blackmail.
Sirius catches Remus eating chocolate even though he is under strict instruction from Pomphrey to not eat it just to see if it makes his migraines go away. Remus immediately responds with "yeah, I suppose it is weird that I'm eating chocolate, Pads. But you know what would be weirder, Dumbledore finding out a black dog was in the Gryffindor common room last night?" Sirius doesn't utter a word.
James catches Remus studying the night before a moon, knowing it will make him tired and grumpy in the morning, making the moon even worse. "Moons. Go. To. Bed. I'll go get Sirius." He is stood there with his arms crossed and as stern of an expression as he can muster. "You go get Sirius and I'll tell Regulus you're a deer. Yeah, that's what I thought, now leave me to it Prongs, I'm fine."
Peter watches as Remus tries to get ready for classes, even though he has the worst cold their dorm has ever seen. "Remus, I swear to Merling, go back to bed, you idiot. You can't even walk straight, you are that ill!!!" In the most hoarse, scratchy voice ever, Remus just bites back a weak "I will report you to the ministry Peter, just you wait."
Remus knows it's never a comparable threat, but it works for him every time, so why would he stop?

"What's it like?" Regulus asked quietly, staring at the stars from their hiding spot in the garden.
"What's what like?" Sirius replied.
Regulus turned to look at him, the grass tickling his nose, "Being in love."
Sirius' eyes never moved from the stars, "Why do you ask?"
Regulus shrugged, "Just curious, I guess."
There was a long pause, Regulus assumed Sirius was trying to find the right words.
"It's sort of like falling." He explained, "It's slow at first. You don't even realise it. One day you notice the colour of their eyes is deeper than you thought. Less plain brown and more... chocolate coloured. The next time it's hearing their laugh and feeling yourself smile without meaning to, like your body wants to react, like the sound is... healing, I guess."
He paused again, finally moving to face Regulus.
Regulus nodded for him to go on.
"Eventually, all of the things you used to do as friends feel... bigger. Every touch doesn't feel so casual anymore. Everytime they say your nickname it's less of a joke and more like a secret, something sacred between the two of you."
He sighed, "Then, one day, you look up and realise how far you've fallen. And it's like there's no turning back. Everything reminds you of them. Everytime you make a joke you look to them first, to see if they're laughing. Everytime they walk in a room it's like nothing else matters." He laughed softly, the sound was nostalgic, "You find yourself looking for reasons to talk to them. Anything to be close to them, to feel their touch. Nothing is casual anymore, there's always... meaning, always something more left unsaid. It's understanding someone so deeply, and having them know you too."
Regulus smiled, "That sounds nice." He whispered.
Sirius nodded, "Yeah, it is."
"I want to have that some day." Regulus sat up, playing with a blade of grass between his fingertips.
Sirius sat up too, his own smile reassuring, "You will." He nodded, "Anyone would be lucky to have you."
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Regulus pulled away from the pensive, his eyes filled with tears.
"May I be excused, professor?" Regulus asked.
The professor nodded, continuing his lesson on finding a positive memory for conjuring a patronus.
Regulus walked out into the hallway. His hands shook as he scrubbed the tears from his face.
And, of course, a voice from behind him caught his attention,
"Reggie! Hey, I thought you had defense class this hour?"
Regulus turned, meeting the deep chocolate brown of Potter's eyes. His stomach flipped as it always did when they were together.
"I do." He sniffed.
Potter caught the look on his face and his smile dropped. At once he was standing in front of Regulus, pulling him into a tight embrace.
"Hey, it's okay. It's okay, I'm here." He soothed, his hands rubbing Regulus' shoulders.
Regulus couldn't help the laugh that escaped him, because the touch sent sparks across Regulus' skin.
Potter frowned, leaning back to look at him again,
"Are you alright?" He asked.
Regulus shook his head, his smile appearing of its own accord,
"I think im in love with you." He whispered.
Potter's eyes widened, he leaned back a little further, "Do you have a concussion? You sound loopy. We should get you to the nurse."
Regulus stopped him mid-stride as Potter began to lead him down the corridor. He shook his head, tears filling his eyes again,
"I'm serious, Jamie. I'm in love with you."
Neither of them made the Sirius joke, Regulus had never once seen Potter speechless like this.
Eventually, he seemed to find his voice again,
"You're in love with me?" He repeated slowly.
Regulus nodded, "I am."
James took a while to process this. Regulus realised he probably should have waited to give the news when Potter wasn't on his way to the lavatory.
He was just about to apologise when Potter took both of his hands in his own,
"I've loved you for as long as I can remember."
The words hit Regulus harder than he could have ever imagined.
Before either of them could get out another word, Potter was pulling him into a sweeping kiss.
Regulus knew without a doubt this was the feeling Sirius had been describing all those years ago.
But he was wrong about one thing.
Regulus was the lucky one.

paring: regulus black x f!reader
➥ In which, you find out you're pregnant and go through many emotions, especially when you realize you'll have to tell Regulus about it, luckily he doesn't seem as scared about it as you are.
warnings: teen pregnancy, reg stays DON'T worry, fluff, angst, happy ending woo, sirius and reg are on good terms in this bc duhh, and a few time skips.
2.0K words
The chill of late autumn settled over the castle as you sat in the quiet corner of the library, staring blankly at your parchment. The Charms essay in front of you might as well have been written in Gobbledegook for all you could concentrate on it. Your hands trembled slightly as they rested in your lap, still trying to process the news you'd received earlier that day.
Madam Pomfrey's kind but firm words echoed in your mind. "You're a few weeks along, my dear. It’s not uncommon to feel overwhelmed, but I’ll be here to help, should you need anything."
You were pregnant.
It didn’t feel real yet—how could it? You were just a student at Hogwarts, barely scraping through Transfiguration and dodging Peeves' pranks. How were you supposed to take on something so enormous, so life-changing? And how would you tell Regulus?
The thought of him made your heart twist. Regulus Black was not an easy person to read, though you knew him better than most. He had a quiet intensity, a weight on his shoulders that he never spoke of, and a fierce loyalty that burned brightly when it came to you. Still, he was young, like you, and tied to a family that would likely never forgive this kind of scandal.
The library door creaked open, and instinctively, you looked up. There he was, tall and elegant in his Slytherin robes, his dark hair slightly missed from the wind outside. He scanned the room, and when his gaze landed on you, his lips curved into that small, private smile he reserved only for you.
"Hey," he greeted softly, sliding into the seat across from you. "You look like you've seen a ghost."
You swallowed hard, suddenly finding it impossible to meet his eyes. "I—I need to talk to you about something."
His brows knitted together, concern flickering across his features. "Is everything alright?"
The words caught in your throat, tangled with fear and doubt. Regulus reached across the table, taking your trembling hands in his. His touch was grounding, as it always was.
"You can tell me anything, you know that," he said, his voice steady.
You nodded, taking a shaky breath. "I'm... I'm pregnant."
For a moment, the world seemed to still. His grip on your hands didn’t falter, but his expression shifted—surprise, disbelief, and then something softer, something that made your chest ache.
"You're sure?" he asked gently, his voice barely above a whisper.
You nodded again, tears welling up despite your best efforts to hold them back. "Madam Pomfrey confirmed it this morning."
Regulus sat back, running a hand through his hair as he processed your words. "Okay," he said finally, the word surprising you with its calmness. "Okay."
"That's all you have to say?" you asked, your voice trembling.
"No," he said quickly, leaning forward again. "No, it's not. I just—I need a moment to think." He exhaled deeply, his gaze locking onto yours. "This isn’t what we planned, obviously, but... I’m not going anywhere. We'll figure this out together."
His words brought a fresh wave of tears, but this time, they carried relief. You hadn’t realized how much you’d feared his reaction until now.
"What about your family?" you asked hesitantly.
A shadow passed over his face, but he shook his head. "They don’t matter. You matter. This—" he gestured between you—"matters. We’ll handle it, whatever it takes."
You reached across the table, cupping his cheek. "I was so scared," you admitted.
"I know," he said, covering your hand with his. "But you’re not alone in this. Not ever."
In that moment, despite the uncertainty of the future, you believed him. Regulus had always been your anchor, and now, you would be his too.
ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ
Many months later…
The small cottage you and Regulus had made your home after graduation was quiet, save for the sound of the rain pattering against the windows. The world outside was gray, but inside, everything felt warmer—a sanctuary you had built together, away from the expectations and chaos of the Black family and the wizarding world.
Regulus paced the length of the sitting room, his usually composed demeanor cracking under the weight of his nerves. Every so often, he glanced toward the closed bedroom door, where Madam Pomfrey—who had insisted on being there—was helping you through labor.
"Regulus, love, sit down before you wear a hole in the floor," Sirius teased, leaning casually against the doorway. He had shown up unannounced the day before, claiming he wouldn’t miss this for the world. His grin was wide, but even he couldn’t hide the tension in his eyes as the occasional sound of your pained cries echoed through the cottage.
"I can’t just sit," Regulus snapped, running a hand through his already-disheveled hair. "She’s in pain, Sirius. Real pain, and I can’t do anything to help her."
"She’s stronger than you think," Sirius said, his voice softening. "You’d know that if you weren’t so busy pacing."
Regulus shot him a glare but said nothing. Instead, he turned to the window, watching the rainfall in steady streams. His mind raced with thoughts of you—your strength, your determination, and how you had faced the last nine months with a courage that left him in awe. He wanted nothing more than to be by your side, to hold your hand and whisper that everything would be okay.
Just then, the door creaked open, and Madam Pomfrey stepped out. Regulus froze, his breath catching in his throat.
"It’s time," she said with a small smile, her face flushed but kind. "She’s asking for you."
Regulus didn’t wait for another word. He brushed past her, entering the bedroom with his heart pounding in his chest.
You were lying in bed, your hair damp with sweat and your face pale but glowing with determination. Your eyes met his, and despite the exhaustion etched into your features, you managed a weak smile.
"Hey," you whispered.
"Hey," he murmured, rushing to your side and taking your hand in his. His fingers were cold, but his touch was steady, grounding you as another wave of pain rippled through your body.
"I can’t do this," you choked out, tears streaming down your face.
"Yes, you can," he said firmly, his voice filled with a confidence that surprised even him. "You’re the strongest person I know. I’m right here, and I’m not leaving."
With his words and the gentle encouragement of Madam Pomfrey, you found the strength to push through the pain. The minutes stretched into what felt like hours, but finally, a cry filled the room—soft and piercing all at once.
Madam Pomfrey carefully placed the tiny, wriggling baby into your arms, and you felt your breath catch. The weight of the child, your child, was both surreal and grounding. Regulus leaned closer, his wide eyes locked on the baby.
"It’s a boy," Madam Pomfrey announced with a proud smile.
"A boy," Regulus repeated, his voice barely a whisper. His hand trembled as he reached out to brush a finger against the baby’s cheek.
You glanced at him, tears streaming down your face. "We did it," you said, your voice breaking.
He looked at you then, his gray eyes shining with emotion you’d rarely seen. "You did it," he corrected softly. "You’re incredible."
The baby let out a small, hiccuping cry, and Regulus carefully scooped him into his arms. He stared down at the tiny face, his expression a mixture of awe and love.
"He’s perfect," he murmured.
"And so are you," you said, watching him cradle your son with a tenderness that made your heart ache.
Sirius peeked his head into the room, a rare softness in his expression. "So? What’s his name?"
Regulus glanced at you, and you exchanged a smile. "Orion," you said in unison, the name a tribute to the stars that had always guided you both, even in the darkest times.
As the storm outside began to ease, a sense of peace settled over the room. In that moment, surrounded by love and new beginnings, you realized that despite the challenges ahead, you were exactly where you were meant to be—with Regulus by your side and your son in your arms.
ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ
11 years later…
The crisp September air carried the hum of excitement as families bustled around Platform 9¾. The scarlet Hogwarts Express stood gleaming on the tracks, its whistle echoing through the station. You stood hand-in-hand with Regulus, watching as your eleven-year-old son, Orion, darted between trunks and trolleys with boundless energy.
"Slow down, love, or you’ll knock someone over!" you called after him, though you couldn’t help but smile at his enthusiasm.
Regulus chuckled beside you, his arm slipping around your waist. "He’s been waiting for this moment since he could hold a wand," he said, his voice soft but filled with pride.
"Sounds like someone I know," you teased, nudging him gently.
"Except he’s far more excited than I ever was," Regulus admitted. His gaze followed Orion as he helped a smaller boy with his luggage. "He doesn’t have the weight of family expectations hanging over him. He gets to just… be."
You leaned into him, understanding the unspoken words. Regulus had come a long way from the boy who once felt trapped by the Black name. Together, you’d built a life for Orion filled with love, freedom, and the chance to define his own path.
"Dad! Mum!" Orion’s voice rang out as he waved you over to where his trunk was now safely stowed on the train. His face was alight with excitement, his gray eyes—so much like his father’s—sparkling with wonder.
"Have you got everything?" you asked, crouching down to check his robes and tie one last time. "Your wand, your books, the lunch I packed?"
"Mum," he groaned, rolling his eyes in that way only an eleven-year-old could. "I’ve got everything. I’m not a baby."
Regulus smirked, kneeling down beside you. "She’s going to worry no matter what, Orion. You’ll just have to write home and reassure her every day."
"Every day?" Orion groaned dramatically, though his grin betrayed him. "Maybe once a week. If I’m not too busy being the best student Hogwarts has ever seen."
"Best student, huh?" Regulus arched an eyebrow. "Let’s start with staying out of detention, shall we?"
Orion grinned mischievously. "No promises."
The train’s whistle blew, signaling the final call for boarding. Your heart clenched as you realized the moment had come.
"Alright, love," you said, pulling Orion into a tight hug. "Be brave, be kind, and don’t forget how much we love you."
"I won’t," he mumbled, hugging you back with surprising force.
Regulus pulled him into a quick but firm embrace. "And remember," he said, his voice quiet but steady, "the Sorting Hat listens to you. Whatever house you choose, we’ll be proud of you."
Orion nodded, his expression momentarily serious. Then, with a bright smile, he picked up his owl’s cage and turned toward the train. "See you at Christmas!" he called as he climbed aboard.
You and Regulus stood side by side, waving as the train began to move. Orion leaned out the window, waving frantically until the train turned a corner and disappeared from view.
The platform slowly emptied as other families departed, but you and Regulus lingered, the weight of the moment settling over you.
"He’ll be alright," Regulus said, slipping his hand into yours.
"I know," you whispered, though tears pricked your eyes. "But it’s hard letting him go."
Regulus pulled you close, pressing a kiss to your temple. "He’s strong, like his mother. And he’s got a whole world ahead of him."
You looked up at him, a smile tugging at your lips. "He’s got the best parts of you, too."
The two of you stood there for a moment longer, watching the empty tracks. Though your hearts ached with the bittersweet pride of watching your son grow up, you knew this was just the beginning of his own adventure—and you’d always be there to cheer him on.

Amortentia (Jegulus)
Regulus didn’t smell. It drove James insane sometimes.
He didn’t smell after quidditch practice, or even after just waking up. It was another one of those things about him that made him seem “perfect”. James hated it.
Regulus was so much more than the image he presented himself to be, but he’d gotten too lost in playing the part, maybe that’s all he’d become.
Every single “imperfection” had been driven away by his mother. Not just for Regulus, but for Sirius as well. The Black family had an image to maintain, high society they had to live in. They couldn’t accept body odor, crooked teeth, or any blemishes on their skin.
James didn’t know how they did it. But none of the Blacks had any negative body odor. No matter how much they sweat.
It’s not to say they dont have a particular smell. According to Slughorn, everyone had a distinct smell, something unique about them.
Sirius smelled like wet dog fur, James knew this because he slept in the bed next to him and every night Sirius turned to padfoot in his sleep.
Narcissa smelled like spring, like her namesake— narcissus. Strangely intense, yet cool and floral. James had only placed the smell last year when they had grown the flower in herbology.
Walburga black smelled like roses, James imagined that’s what the queen of hearts from Alice in Wonderland smelled like. It was suffocating if you had the displeasure to be near her, like a thousand thorny plants squeezing your windpipe.
James wasn’t padfoot, he didn’t memorize smells. But it’s hard not to notice how his closest friends smell. It made him feel warm, to be surrounded by so many people he loves, all with a distinct smell.
Remus smelled like chocolate, like wet fur, wooly sweaters, a warm fire and old books. James could tell that’s what Sirius was smelling in his cauldron right then. That’s the reason he was thinking so much about smells in the first place.
Sixth year brought with it responsibilities, but also more advanced potion making. James always wondered why he didn’t drop potions when he had the chance.
Sirius was blushing so hard, his skin tone matched the pink potion. James had to stifle his own laughter as Remus tried to go over the recipe once again to make sure they had made it correct. They were all paired up for this particular class. Sirius and Remus at one cauldron and James and Peter next to them. It used to be Sirius and James together, but after one too many pranks in the classroom, Professor Slughorn had separated them.
“Clockwise!” Remus corrected Sirius just before he could have ruined their potion. They were the second ones to finish their potion so Slughorn was already making his way towards the boys. “Bloody hell, Sirius. Stop overmixing it”
James exchanged a look with Peter. Why had he let Sirius pick Remus while pairing up again? Oh that’s right— Wingman duties
James was nowhere near as great as Lily or Remus or even Snivellus in potion making, but he managed. Mostly he used Remus’ notes and applied common sense. It drove Remus insane sometimes, how much work he’d have to put in to memorize something, only for James to make an educated guess about it. James couldn’t really explain how he knew stuff, he just did. Call it pattern awareness, or whatever.
“So from the way Moony was yelling at Padfoot, I’m guessing we have to stir it clockwise?” James raised an eyebrow.
Peter only snickered as he watched their other two friends bickering like an old married couple. “What’d you think Moony smells, James?”
“Wet dog” James replied easily, “And that awful old leather jacket Padfoot refuses to throw away,”
“I bet Sirius smells chocolate and wool”
James had known Peter for years, they'd had baths together when they were babies, learned how to ride a bicycle from James’ father, spent ten christmases trying to make gingerbread houses and so many more memories.
That’s all to say, James knew what Peter smelled like. He had a distinct cologne he swore worked wonders on the ladies, and as stereotypical as it was for the rat to love cheese, he really did.
So if James was in love with his best mate, that’s what he would have smelled.
But instead when he dared to take a whiff of the potion (after coughing violently because it was pretty strong), all he smelled was broom wax, old books and paint.
“Mmmhmm” Peter grinned, “Camembert, and candy. Smells so great I’m hungry now. And you?”
“Old books” He frowned, “And paint”
“Careful, Pads might think you’re in love with Moony too”
James wasn’t sure what he was expecting. He was glad he didn’t smell lilies, relating to his old embarrassing crush. It had been months since he had obsessed over Lily Evans and even thinking about that time made him cringe.
James had quickly realized he had no idea what love was supposed to be. He grew up watching his parents so immensely in love he’d been in love with the idea of love and the idea of Lily Evans. And ideas are dangerous things to be in love with.
For his sake and Lily’s, he was glad he stopped liking her.
But after Lily… well, there had been someone James had grown a liking too. And he couldn’t help the disappointment when he didn’t smell Regulus in the potion. He took a few more whiffs, just to be sure. But to no avail. The potion still smelled the same.
James wasn’t sure why it bothered him so much. Maybe he was just incapable of loving. Because he couldn’t smell Regulus, that had to mean he wasn’t in love with the boy as he had previously thought. This was clearly a Lily situation again. And that bothered James. Mainly because he wanted to be in love. Not just because of his fantasy of being so in love with someone, but also because Regulus was so lovely.
He was witty and sharp, beautiful and sarcastic, knowledgeable and petty, headstrong and stubborn but also sweet and funny. He seemed to positively glow under James’ praise. James loved it when he flushed pink, James loved it when he shot back a retort, when he smiled a secret smile for only James, when he dragged his long fingers over James’ skin— touch for the sake of touch. James loved every single thing about Regulus, the way his eyes crinkled when he tried to stop himself from laughing at one of James’ bad jokes, the way he sneezed, the way his lips parted, the way he tasted so sweet when they kissed, but most of all, James thought he was in love with Regulus.
He wasn’t sure what smell he was searching for. He knew Regulus didn’t smell. He didn’t have a signature smell like Peter’s cologne. But James was still disappointed.
He wanted to make Regulus feel loved, he wanted to be in love. He had said it once and Regulus had said it before.
Three simple words.
And what if they were a lie?
A knock on the door made Slughorn change directions. He had been heading toward James and Peter’s potion to check it, but he walked toward the open door.
James would have recognised those curls anywhere.
Even before Regulus was fully visible, stepping into the doorway, eyes searching the class, James was grinning. Who cared what the stupid potion said? The potion could be wrong. Maybe James and Peter brewed it wrong.
All that mattered was that Regulus lit up James’ world, it genuinely felt that way. Just passing him in the hallways, getting to stare at him as he stared at the stars, just listening to him talk about astronomy or his favorite paintings felt like a reward to James.
So yeah, fuck the potion.
James Potter was in love with Regulus Black.
That’s when he spotted the paint splattered on the edges of his otherwise neat robe. He was handing a book he must have borrowed back to Slughorn. His eyes landed on James and though he tried to keep his composure in thanking the professor, James grew ecstatic at the acknowledgement.
The effect Regulus had on him really had to be studied.
Just before he left, he sniffed the room, his eyebrows furrowing in that Regulus Black way as he mock glared at James. He had the face of an aristocrat but the mind of an artist. Maybe he was both.
James was thankful his table was the closest to the door and the others were too busy either bickering, fawning over their potion or still completing it.
“You smell, Potter” Regulus scrunched his nose in disgust, turning to walk away, “Didn’t you shower after quidditch? It’s disgusting, it’s a wonder the whole room isn’t gagging with how strong it is, even your sandalwood perfume can’t mask it.”
James could barely say anything before Regulus had walked away.
Paint splatter, the old books in the room of requirement and Regulus’ personal collection, the broom wax from when James had watched him polish his broom before a match against Hufflepuff.
Slowly the pieces floated together and James thought he had started floating too. He felt light, like a floating lantern, a ball of warmth in his chest.
And what had Regulus been talking about? James twisted his ankle his last game. Madam Pomfrey hadn’t cleared him to fly the whole week, he had been moping about not being able to play.
When he looked at Peter, his friend was looking back with an amused look.
“Fucking hell, Prongs”
“Don’t tell Padfoot”

Calling For You | R.B.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your youngest daughter wakes up and immediately wants her dad — dad!regulus x mom!reader fluff
warnings: none :)
words: 0.4k
Tumblr media
You gently nudged your elbow into Regulus’ chest to wake him up. He hummed quickly with his eyes still closed, trying to ask why you woke him up even though words weren’t forming yet.
“Ascella’s up; She wants you.” You mumbled, wanting to stay asleep as well.
Your previous words were proven right when Ascella’s high-pitched cry for her father tore through the hallway.
Regulus shook his head. “No, I definitely heard ‘mama’.”
She definitely said ‘dada’. Just over a year old and she was already a daddy’s girl.
He was up late reading to her last night. Every time he finished a story and put her down in her crib, she would become more awake than ever. You understood that Regulus was tired, but you also knew your little Ascella wanted her dad.
“Reg, you know she’s not going to be happy if I go in there instead of you.” You tried again.
“Yes she will, she’s a happy baby.”
Just when you were about to get up and attempt to calm her down anyways, the sound of your door opening and a small fist pounding against the wood filled the room and interrupted your action.
“Dad, Ascella’s calling for you. She’s so loud even though she’s so little.” You looked at Perseus covering his ears as he said the last part and his little gesture made you smile.
You turned your head to your husband. “I told you she wants you.”
Regulus let out a groan as he stood up. “Alright, I’ll go to her.” He trudged across the room, patting your son on the back as he was too tired for a good morning hug.
The little boy ran to you as soon as his dad left the room, and he took Regulus’ place beside you. Even though you knew you would have to get up soon, a good cuddle was impossible to resist.
You pulled Perseus into your arms and pressed a kiss to the hair he had inherited from his dad’s side of the family. “I’m so glad you don’t wake us up like that anymore.”

stars & spaghetti | r.b.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
a/n: here i go again, not taking a break 😭 i swear i just needed to write this! thank you @lovemenotts for encouraging me to post it 🫶 i love you lily
tw: eating disorder recovery
Regulus knows where to find you, but he also knows better than to act like he was looking for you with two bowls of food in hand.
“Hey.”
You almost jump at the sound of his voice. You turn around from where you’re sitting on the porch, giving him a small smile. “Hi.”
His heart drops a little when he sees your face, with your sunken eyes and tired expression.
“I didn’t realize you were home already. Did you come through the back?”
He hums an affirmative, sitting down next to you on the steps leading out the house.
Out of the corner of his eye, he watches as you slouch onto the railing on your left, blankly staring out at the road. “How’s your day been?”
Regulus casually twirls his fork into the spaghetti in his bowl before bringing it to his mouth. Maybe he believes he’s being slick, you think, but it’s obvious that he’s got twice his usual serving.
“Today’s been fine, yeah. Just busy. How was work?”
He nods in response, “Good, actually. Mark finally sent me the files I needed to get that huge contract signed, and —” He presses his fork into the pasta again, but this time brings it up to your mouth (hoping you’re too distracted to mind).
His heart drops and how instantly you swerve backwards, almost crashing into the step behind you.
“Reg,” it comes out as a betrayed hiss. You take a shaky exhale before sitting back upright. “I don’t want any; I’ve eaten dinner already.”
“Have you?”
“Yes, I —“
“Then why’s the kitchen completely clean?”
Regulus never takes a harsh tone with you, and he wasn’t going to start now. There’s nothing but quiet, genuine concern in the way he asks. Guilt claws at the back of your throat anyway.
It was one of your worse days; thoughts of excessive calories and not having worked out being all you could think about. You’d stared at yourself in the mirror for what seemed like hours, cursing every flaw of your body and wondering why me.
Without your boyfriend home, it had just felt like there was no reason to fatten yourself.
“Hey,” Regulus mutters, laying his palm facing upwards on your lap. You take it. “You’re getting in your head again.”
“Sorry.”
“Nothing to be sorry for, lovely girl.” He reaches out to gently brush a stray hair away from your face. “But do you think you could try to eat something? Please?”
Your heart stops, and it’s like your mind is reeling back into its hiding spot already. No lies on the tip of your tongue.
“It doesn’t have to be a lot, dove, he continues quietly, rubbing your fingers. “Just a few bites. You need fuel, you know.”
Regulus is looking into your eyes with that silent look now, the one which makes you feel like he’d do just about anything to save you from yourself. You don’t think you could ever say no to him.
And it wasn’t like you’d eaten anything today. You were allowed this, for your boyfriend, right?
“Fine.”
He smiles softy and tugs you closer, stamping a kiss to the side of your forehead and picking up the bowl of pasta from beside him. “So, remember that bouquet I bought you last week?”
He starts to make casual conversation as he feeds you, and you do your best to listen. It goes all the way from those flowers were expensive! to maybe we should get a cat — or a new apartment — but NOT a dog.
The food gets lodged in your throat every now and then, but you force yourself to swallow. The ‘full’ feeling starts to creep up on you like your shadow.
Regulus can sense it. “Okay, but why the hell do you like dogs?”
You decide to indulge him and go off on a tangent about the fluffy beasts, which pulls your mind away from its dark corner. The conversation makes the chore of eating easier.
You’re sure he knows what he’s doing, but you’re going to let him anyway.
Before you know it, you’re laughing so hard you don’t even realize the bowl is empty. He stands up to put it away before you get the chance to think too hard about it.
Regulus sits back down next to you. He starts to tell you about the stars, then, and you listen intently. It’s late, but you wouldn’t know what time it is. Time didn’t exist in your little bubble.
At one point you’ve curled into him the furthest you can. Your eyelids are being pulled down by the weight of fatigue, his comforting presence lulling you closer towards sleep.
He thinks you don’t hear it when he murmurs a soft I’m proud of you. You do.
