"WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE SHOWS

If we operate with the premise of "the demon takes over and sets up shop", the actual philosophical and psychological discussions of the show become moot. There's no need for 'Angel The Series' because Angel isn't responsible for 150 years of carnage. Some random demon is. Spike should regain his soul in Season 7 and go "wait, who are YOU people?" because he's just returned to his own body. But that's never how the show treats it when it matters. Both shows are, in many ways, extended metaphors and extended allegories. The only times it's referred to as some external source are from the mouths of people who've had no experience being vampires, using a, frankly, really understandable excuse to explain something that's otherwise pretty heartbreaking. If it's just some random vampire going 'hey, these guys had mad mommy/daddy issues, let me replicate that," the entire show becomes profoundly less compelling."

Five By Five Takes slaying it once again with their Buffyverse analyses. This is exactly what I mean by how it's pointless Angel has a whole ass redemption story if his choice and agency and consciousness is taken away from him when he loses his soul and it gets restored again. First of all - what does that entail? And second of all - what is to learn from it? What's the moral behind the condition of nonconsenually giving over your identity to a demon? Five By Five Takes brilliantly explains why Buffy and Angel becomes so much more worth watching and re-watching when that black and white demon/vampire/monster lore just disappears from the then-narrative and the lines between good and evil start blurring. Because if all I got from it was demonic possession, I'd have dropped 'BtVS' in the trash ages ago with all the rest of the black and white rubbish. Instead - it's become one of my all-time favourite TV shows. And despite its inconsistencies in its lore and world-building writing, it still manages to thoroughly capture my heart, mind and soul. And it's precisely because they discarded the initial premise of "a vampire isn't a person at all" bullshit Giles regurgitates in eariy Season 1. it's precisely because they blur the lines on all of that why I give a shit to watch it and to continue watching it. To engage in and interact with it. If all I could get out of it is "there's no half-way", I wouldn't be here now. I really don't care if the lore is wonky. I just want a compelling story with excellent character representation and development.

X-Men: Evolution CG Storm and Regressor Wolverine headcanons

When Logan comes back from a solo mission he always tries not to let himself regress because he worries the kids will see, he likes to keep his regression as private as possible and doesn’t want to lose the kids’ respect

Ororo will meet him after missions to see how he is doing, if he’s trying not to regress, she’ll use subtle language to help him slip into headspace and then walk with him back to one of their rooms for some baby time, if he’ll let her

Ororo will whisper ask Logan if he went potty before they leave because he might have an accident if he slips

Ororo tries to convince Logan to where a pull-up when they go out while he’s between headspaces, Logan begrudgingly agrees most of the time because it’s slightly less embarrassing than an accident

Kitty saw Ororo leave Logan’s room early one morning after she spent the night helping him regress, a rumor started about them dating that same day, they were extra careful for a while bc they didn’t want anyone accidentally finding out while trying catch them doing coupley things

Logan doesn’t like to eat his veggies, but he always wants whatever Ororo is eating, so Ororo has a system. O: “Do you want any veggies, Little One?” L: “No!” O: “Okay.” *Gives herself extra vegetables* L: “Mama, I have some, please?” Much easier than arguing about how he needs to eat his vegetables

Ororo has to carry a bag with her everywhere they go, not just for Logan’s baby stuff like changing supplies, sippy cup, etc, but to hold all the rocks and sticks he gives her while they’re outside

Logan has “mastered” secretly regressing, sitting silently at the breakfast table, pretending to read a news paper while playing Blue’s Clues songs in him head, most of the kids already try not to bother his so early in the morning so might as well take advantage of it if he slips

Ororo keeps little snacks and small toys on her for when Logan slips, so she can make sure he eats and give him something to do subtly until they can get somewhere safe and/or private for him to properly regress

Lots of nature walks while the kids are at school and they don’t have any x-men business to take care of

Logan love to run around the ground and climb trees

Ororo watches him play and sometimes will indulge him in making it rain so he can play in the mud and stomp in puddles

Logan and Ororo will snuggle and watch movies in the common areas sometime while the kids are at school. They don’t do it often because sometimes the kids are still in and out of the house through out the day anyway

The only other people who know are Charles and Hank. They’ve had close calls with Jean and have suspected that maybe she knows but hasn’t said anything

I decided to watch Digimon Adventure Last Evolution Kizuna recently, partly due to the new TCG set coming out, but also just cause I like the movie 😊

I have some complaints but overall I really like the movie, and Menoa is kind of a comfort character to me, so I wanted to draw her again 🥰

Watching a lot of X-Men Evolution and I'm obsessed with them

All the kiddos regressing together and helping each other if someone regresses at school or on a mission

Jean and Scott being big sibs, and trying to be big sibs when they're feeling little, and having everyone assure them that they can be the little siblings

Wolverine regressing and the younger team members being big siblings, cause baby Wolvie is everything to me

Charles, Hank and Ororo essentially running the most chaotic daycare of baby mutants after a hard mission, sometimes Wolverine won't be regressed and he can help, but usually he's regressed too

The Brotherhood being invited over for play dates (bc they are also just kids and I want them to be friends with the x-men)

Hey, i wanted to say that i love following your stories on ao3! i saw a comment you replied about ellie having a habit of sucking her thumb when regressed and that joel is afraid of the numerous diseases, i don't know if as a writer, you like to include certain objects in your stories, but do you think joel will something to replace the finger, like a pacifier?

Totally here for pacis/other agere gear!! They've never come up in my non littles are known fics - simply because I've never felt like there's been a good spot to smoothly slip the idea into the fic while keeping it feeling real and in character. Not to say it's never going to happen in my non au fics though!!!

I did have the idea to eventually bring pacis into the Evolution series - and have pretty much been on the fence about it ever since. Sometimes I'm like 'this is fanfic, this is agere, who cares I'm doing it' other times I'm not sure if I should 🤷 There's definitely talk about pacis (or at least Joel considering it/thinking about it) I've been leaning towards including pacifiers with Ellie's agere somewhere down the line so probably - yes

If those who have been reading the series are all for including pacis at some point, then yes, baby will definitely actually get a paci :)

Regression of character development is still character development if it’s evolving the arc for the character. If it seems like it’s out-of-character, then it can be referred to as character assassination instead but even character assassination can evolve the arc.

In other words: you can’t actually develop backwards. Even if you go back to what you once were you still haven’t rewinded. You’ve just come full circle. A lot of people think that characters seem like they haven’t grown because they’re still behaving the same ways as they did when they were first introduced or when they first appeared. But all that’s really happening is they’ve undergone a growth that progresses in a spiral. Meaning their development is not linear. The process goes round in a circle but doesn’t fully close.

That’s how it works for real people in real life that are really living. Nobody’s life or existence is in a straight line where the only direction it can go in is forwards. The reason why the characters that have a spiral progression are the most interesting is because they are the most realistic - therefore the most relatable and/or resonant. Their development pathway branches out. Goes forwards, backwards, sidewards and curves. Most characters go from point A to point B. But the really interesting, appealing or entertaining ones move in ways that take them from point A to absolutely anywhere on the spectrum of the alphabet at any moment. They’re often unpredictable and chaotic. They are multi-dimensional. They are real. What they represent is the reality of actually living because life is not linear. It might look it but it’s not.

Time makes it seem like it only progresses in the direction of ahead. But time doesn’t exist. When you watch a movie or a TV show, it is bound by the constraints of a duration. A time limit. Real life does not have one unless you consider death to be time up. What we know as “time-space” is actually thought and emotion. A bending and reflection of perspective. It is actually entirely down to the individual observer how “time-space” moves. Art/entertainment teaches you this if you look beyond the surface of narrative. I’m not saying real life is like a movie or a TV show. But I am saying that it is a collection of still images combined together in a linear progression to give the illusion that it only moves forward. If you change the arrangement and position of those still images it now moves in another direction that doesn’t make any sense. That seems like it is not bound by time-space. All life is is a series of “now” moments. What gives the illusion that anything has “moved”, “changed” or “developed” is the consciousness of the observer. Life stays still if not for the mind’s ability to manipulate it. The tip to navigating is to tap into that stillness. When you do that, life moves in any and every direction and you are no longer bound by the constant of “time”. The really interesting characters we watch in movies and TV shows show us that life is of our own making. It appears to us like they’re bound by the narrative. But they’re actually what are creating the narrative and suddenly that movie or TV show seems longer and now it feels as if we’re not watching it but are in it.

That’s what art/entertainment shows and teaches me.

That real life is actually just like it. The only reason why we collectively believe that it isn’t is because we don’t see how our character effects our reality. That every choice we make changes the direction of it. We can still call that direction “ahead” and “growth” I guess because it is still a development of our character regardless of how it changes our character. Change is growth, is development and is evolution. And life moves with us: not the other way around .
